Abstract:
This article attempts to clarify the controversies Charles Taylor's thoughts on group rights and identity politics have generated by exploring the constitutional and normative dimensions of Taylor's approach to the problem of political fragmentation, what he calls "deep diversity." In doing so, it makes a qualified defence of Taylor against his critics while also sketching an alternative route to deep diversity. The latter responds to the critics' concerns about the actual forms of accommodation or recognition that Taylor's thought sanctifies while preserving the normative core of his model.

Abstract:
In this work, we reassess two known processes of Quantum Electrodynamics involving electrons and muons. The photon propagator is modified by a CPT-even Lorentz-violating (LV) tensor, while fermion lines and the vertex interaction are not altered. Using the Feynman rules, the associated cross sections for unpolarized scatterings are evaluated, revealing the usual energy dependence and Lorentz-violating contributions that induce space anisotropy. A possible route to constraining the LV coefficients is presented and the results properly commented.

Abstract:
AbstractPowder Metallurgy (P/M) is playing a vital role to synthesize variety of materials in the field of aerospace, automobile, ordnance, petroleum and petrochemical industries. P/M is an outstanding process to produce components with good mechanical and tribological properties such as strength, hardness, impact resistance and wear resistance. Recently metal matrix composites (MMC) replace conventional alloys because of their extraordinary characteristics. Currently Aluminium, Copper, Magnesium, Titanium and Iron have been used as matrix materials and materials like TiC, SiC, B4C, WC, Cr3C, TiO2, ZrO2, Gr, MoS2, and Si3N4 have been used as reinforcements to synthesize metal matrix composites. When compare P/M with other manufacturing methods, it offers ordered microstructure with improved physical, mechanical and tribological properties. From these, powder metallurgy could be commented as an extremely active and cost-effective method when compare with other process. This paper explains the selection suitable process parameters for synthesize MMCs using P/M technique. This paper made an attempt to present the mechanical and tribological properties of various composites fabricated through powder metallurgy technique.

Abstract:
Emerging pandemics call for unique health communication and education strategies in which public health agencies need to satisfy the public’s information needs about possible risks while preventing risk exaggeration and dramatization. As a route to providing a framework for understanding public information behaviors in response to an emerging pandemic, this study examined the characteristics of communicative behaviors of social media audiences in response to Ebola outbreak news. Grounded in the social amplification of risks framework, this study adds to an understanding of information behaviors of online audiences by showing empirical differences in audience engagement with online health information. The data were collected from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Facebook channel. The final data set included 809 CDC posts and 35,916 audience comments. The analysis identified the differences in audience information behaviors in response to an emerging pandemic, Ebola, and health promotion posts. While the CDC had fewer posts on Ebola than health promotion topics, the former received more attention from active page users. Furthermore, audience members who actively engaged with Ebola news had a small overlap with those who engaged with non-Ebola information during the same period. Overall, this study demonstrated that information behavior and audience engagement is topic dependent. Furthermore, audiences who commented on news about an emerging pandemic were homogenous and varied in their degree of information amplification.

Abstract:
Abstract The use of 3-dimensional (3D) videos allows students to visualize surgical procedures from the perspective of the surgeon without missing the essential parts.1 This 3D commented video demonstrates the operative technique and surgical nuances of the combined petrosectomy, visualize using virtual reality headsets. Historically, traditional intradural cisternal routes using suboccipital and pterional approaches have been proposed to remove petroclival tumors.2-5 It allows rapid identification of neurovascular structures and a short exposure time. However, access to the petroclival region is far, not direct, and requires intradural cerebral retraction.6 In order to improve the access for tumoral dissection, lateral transpetrosal approaches have been proposed.7-12 The extradural route shortened the distance to the petroclival region, allows to better preserve the veins, to decrease the cerebral retraction, to interrupt early the tumor vascular supply, and a larger extent of resection.6 Transpetrosal approaches includes middle fossa approach8,10 (removing the petrous apex), posterior petrosal approach9,13,14 (removing of presigmoid retrolabyrinthine bone), and translabyrinthine petrosectomy.12 A combined petrosectomy may be used to approach larger tumor extending across the clival midline, upward to the tentorium or downward to the lower cranial nerves.6,10,15,16 Alternatively, according to Nanda, a retro-sigmoid approach may need to be performed to avoid critical draining veins injury.10,17 Good resection and outcomes are obtained when experienced surgeons use familiar approaches and microsurgical techniques.10

Abstract:
Targeted drug delivery systems represent valuable tools to enhance the accumulation of therapeutics in the brain. Here, the presence of the blood brain barrier strongly hinders the passage of foreign substances, often limiting the effectiveness of pharmacological therapies. Among the plethora of materials used for the development of these systems, natural polysaccharides are attracting growing interest because of their biocompatibility, muco-adhesion, and chemical versatility which allow a wide range of carriers with tailored physico-chemical features to be synthetized. This review describes the state of the art in the field of targeted carriers based on natural polysaccharides over the last five years, focusing on the main targeting strategies, namely passive and active transport, stimuli-responsive materials and the administration route. In addition, in the last section, the efficacy of the reviewed carriers in each specific brain diseases is summarized and commented on in terms of enhancement of either blood brain barrier (BBB) permeation ability or drug bioavailability in the brain.

Abstract:
This article reflects upon Marian apparitions that occurred during the years 1961 to 1965 in the village of San Sebastián de Garabandal, or Garabandal, in northern Spain, giving rise to pilgrimages ever since. The events coincided with the Second Ecumenical Council of the Vatican, or Vatican II. Garabandal is the only Marian apparition event to have prophesied and commented on Vatican II. Nevertheless, in Christendom, travelling to Garabandal is regarded as an alternative pilgrimage. The pilgrimage route is in several ways unique compared to journeys to other Marian pilgrimage shrines, since it has not yet been approved by the Catholic Church. Pilgrimages to Garabandal were even officially forbidden for several years. The Catholic Church authorities originally declared travelling to Garabandal as forbidden for church officials such as priests and others. This article gives an overview of the case of Garabandal through the years and reflect upon why this place is considered special in comparison to other pilgrimage sites. The study examines such aspects of pilgrimages to this village as location and motivation, the Virgin Mary and Marian apparitions and also the messages and miracles of Garabandal.

Arebi embarks on cultural analysis via the literary work of ninecontemporary Saudi women writers in this thoughtful and provocativediscussion of gender and literary production at a significant historicaljuncture for Saudi women. The import of this discussion for and aboutMuslim women, by a Muslim woman, exists not only in its particularcountry context but also in the troubling debate now raging over personalexpression and commitment to "feminist" reform versus Muslimperceptions of a continuing ideological invasion that is heavily influencedby western political hegemony. I need not even mention the nameof Taslima Shahin for readers to acknowledge some degree of anguishin our sharp disagreements over the issue of gender versus culture. The voices of these female Saudi writers range from the avant-gardeto conservative "journalese," and Arebi contends that they illustrate thecomplex nature of female discourse in an Arab-Islamic context. However, she seems to have backed into asserting a unique and nonfeminist positionfor Saudi women, using such slogans as "quality not equality," althoughthe subjects of her study often write otherwise. Arebi arrives at this analyticalquandary by a similar route that has been followed by other sincerescholars and observers. As Leila Ahmed commented some years ago:It is only when one considers that one's sexual identity alone (andsome would not accept even this) is more inextricably oneselfthan one's cultural identity, that one can perhaps appreciate howexcruciating is the plight of the Middle Eastern feminist caughtbetween those two opposing loyalties, forced almost to choosebetween betrayal and betrayal ...

Since the advent of large-scale commercial aviation in the mid 1940s, a system of routes has been developed between airports serving the major conurbations of the world. To prevent collision between aircraft using these routes and off-route traffic, protection is provided to the routes and to the vicinity of airports by means of controlled airspace, airways (AWYS), control areas (CTAS) and control zones (CTRS). Zones commence at ground level and the base an area is at a defined altitude. Inside this controlled airspace certain rules apply which are more stringent than those applied outside, and all movements are subject to Air Traffic Control (ATC).

Abstract:
On 29 March 2017, President of the European Council Donald Tusk received a note from UK Ambassador Tim Barrow. Under the document, the procedure of UK’s leaving of the European Union was initiated.1 Gideon Rachman from “Financial Times” compared Brexit to a divorce, stating that the representative of the British government “granted the divorce papers”, thus beginning a “long (planned for two years) attempt to redefine mutual relations” (Rozpoczyna się Brexit…, 2017). In his announcement for the press, Donald Tusk commented: “There is no reason to pretend that this is a lucky day, both in Brussels and in London […] Most Europeans, including almost a half of British voters, would prefer us to be still together” (Wielka Brytania rozpoczyna…, 2017). The stance of the European Council clearly mirrors the moods caused by the decision on Brexit, which are prevailing among all EU member states. It should be noted, however, that leaving the EU by the Brits not only has an impact on their political situation, but it also determines the actions of states aspiring to become members of the Community. The aim of this paper is to discuss the reasons for Brexit and to present the position of the Turkish government on this issue on the basis of the analysis of press articles and politicians’ speeches. The hypothesis we posed assumes that Brexit meant Turkey losing its most important advocate in the Union. Thus, the future of accession negotiations between Turkey and the European Union has been called into question. One should also wonder to what degree Turkey’s foreign policy priorities, which have already been redefined under the influence of the war in Syria, the battle with ISIS, the immigration crisis and the futile accession process so far, will be affected by the United Kingdom’s decision to leave the European Union. Will Turkey choose to follow the so-called Trexit route, giving up its membership in the EU?

Abstract:
Floods are among the most persistent natural disasters that lead to massive economic and human loss globally. In this regard, this study has proposed an optimisation model for evacuating people before the occurrence of the flood using bus transit. The process of evacuation commences with the issue of warning and extends up to a certain time before the flood forecasts to strike. This model provides an optimised framework for 1) Locating pickup points and shelters, 2) Assigning pickup points to the nearest shelter by opting the shortest route among the available routes. On the basis of demand, each pickup point is allocated with a certain number of trips. The modelling of dispatch sequence of public buses, random adventing of evacuees at pickup points and evacuees transit to the shelters are presented by developing a simulation tool. The results of simulation serve for assessing the route design and then, a local search heuristic is suggested to improve the route design during the evacuation.

Abstract. The differences in North African dust emission regions and transport routes, between the boreal winter and summer, are thoroughly documented. Here we re-examine the spatial and temporal characteristics of dust transport over the tropical and subtropical North Atlantic Ocean, using 10 yr of satellite data, in order to better characterize the different dust transport periods. We see a robust annual triplet: a discernible rhythm of "transatlantic dust weather". The proposed annual partition is composed of two heavy loading periods, associated here with a northern-route period and southern-route period, and one light-loading period, accompanied by unusually low average optical depth of dust. The two dusty periods are quite different in character: their duration, transport routes, characteristic aerosol loading and frequency of pronounced dust episodes. The southern-route period lasts ~4 months. It is characterized by a relatively steady southern positioning, low frequency of dust events, low background values and high variance in dust loading. The northern-route period lasts ~6.5 months and is associated with a steady drift northward of ~0.1 latitude day−1, reaching ~1500 km north of the southern-route. The northern period is characterized by higher frequency of dust events, higher (and variable) background and smaller variance in dust loading. It is less episodic than the southern period. Transitions between the periods are brief. Separation between the southern and northern periods is marked by northward latitudinal shift in dust transport and by moderate reduction in the overall dust loading. The second transition, between the northern and southern periods, commences with an abrupt reduction in dust loading and rapid shift southward of ~0.2 latitude day−1, and ~1300 km in total. Based on cross-correlation analyses, we attribute the observed rhythm to the contrast between the northwestern and southern Saharan dust source spatial distributions. Despite the vast difference in areas, the Bodélé Depression, located in Chad, appears to modulate transatlantic dust patterns about half the time.

Abstract:
This paper commences by outlining the developments expected in en-route navigation capabilities in Western Europe and describes the current provision of surveillance employing monopulse SSRS. Following a brief review of GPS characteristics, it then considers the use of ADS, in conjunction with GPS, as an alternative and/or supplement to these ground-based systems. In the light of a simple cost comparison, it suggests that the space-based system could be very advantageous, particularly where new routes are to be established in areas with little or no ATS infrastructure. A final section discusses the possibility of using GPS for height-monitoring purposes as will be necessary when a reduced vertical separation minimum of iooo ft, is employed above FL290 in Europe, and elsewhere.

We see a robust annual triplet: a discernible rhythm of "transatlantic dust weather". The proposed annual partition is composed of two heavy loading periods, associated here with a northern-route period and southern-route period, and one clean, light-loading period, accompanied by unusually low average optical depth of dust. The two dusty periods are quite different in character: their duration, transport routes, characteristic aerosol loading and frequency of pronounced dust episodes. The southern route period lasts about ~4 months, from the end of November to end of March. It is characterized by a relatively steady southern positioning, low frequency of dust events, low background values and high variance in dust loading. The northern-route period lasts ~6.5 months, from the end of March to mid October, and is associated with a steady drift northward of ~0.1 latitude day−1, reaching ~1500 km north of the southern route. The second transition between the northern and southern periods commences with an abrupt reduction in dust loading (thereby initiating the clean period) and rapid shift southward of ~0.2 latitude day−1, and 1300 km in total. These rates of northward advance and southern retreat of the dust transport route are in accordance with the simultaneous shift of the Inter Tropical Front. The proposed partition captures the essence of transatlantic dust climatology and may, therefore, supply a natural temporal framework for dust analysis via models and observations.

Abstract:
In the United States, automobile route guides were important precursors to the road maps that Americans are familiar with today. Listing turn-by-turn directions between cities, they helped drivers navigate unmarked, local roads. This paper examines the early business of route guide publishing through the Official Automobile Blue Book series of guides. It focuses specifically on the expansion, contraction, and eventual decline of the Blue Book publishing empire and also the work of professional “pathfinders” that formed the company’s data-gathering infrastructure. Be- ginning in 1901 with only one volume, the series steadily grew until 1920, when thirteen volumes were required to record thousands of routes throughout the country. Bankruptcy and corporate restructuring in 1921 forced the publishers to condense the guide into a four-volume set in 1922. Competition from emerging sheet maps, along with the nationwide standardization of highway numbers, pushed a switch to an atlas format in 1926. Blue Books, however, could not remain competitive and disappeared after 1937. “Pathfinders” were employed by the publishers and equipped with reliable automobiles. Soon they developed a shorthand notation system for recording field notes and efficiently incorporating them into the development workflow. Although pathfinders did not call themselves cartographers, they were geographical data field collectors and considered their work to be an “art and a science,” much the same as modern-day cartographers. The paper concludes with some comments about the place of route guides in the history of American commercial cartography and draws some parallels between “pathfinders” and the digital road mappers of today.

Abstract:
The inauguration of a steamship route between Canada and Australia, described as the “missing link,” was envisaged to complete Britain's imperial circuit of the globe. This article examines the early proposals and projects for a service between Vancouver and Sydney, which finally commenced in 1893. The route was more than a means of physically bridging the gulf between Canada and Australia. Serving as a conduit for ideologies and expectations, it became a key element of aspirations to reconfigure the Pacific as a natural domain for the extension of settler-colonial power and influence. In centering the “white” Pacific and relations between white colonies in empire, the route's early history, although one of friction and contestation, offers new insights into settler-colonial mobilities beyond dominant themes of metropole–colony migration.

This 2 × 2 experimental study (N = 196) tested the effects of source expertise and opinion valence in readers’ comments on the credibility of an online news story about genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Source expertise had a significant influence on perceptions of article credibility; articles were judged more credible when public comments embedded in the story were from expert sources (e.g., scientists) rather than nonexpert sources (e.g., Twitter users). Effects were larger on high-frequency news users, regardless of whether comments were for or against GMOs. Results suggest that Internet users mainly use the peripheral or heuristic route of information processing to evaluate online news credibility. The importance for online journalism of social heuristics via opinions of other people is discussed.

CDW iswidely ill-handled and ultimately fed to landfills causing harm tothe already alarming environmental conditions. In order tosearch for the solution of this drastic matter, a study was done, which is explained in this paper. This paper presents the studydone at a demolition site near Karachi, in Sindh while thedemolition works were being carried out. At the site there wereold barracks which were being demolished. Before the demolitionworks were commenced, the site was surveyed and structuralcomponents of the barracks were counted and their dimensionswere measured. When the demolition was over, the demolishedwaste was calculated which comprised of concrete and masonryrubble, steel round bars, steel doors, steel windows, steel ceiling, steel girders, steel main gate, and plastic water tank. This studyinterpreted that construction and demolition (C&D) works wereprogressing considering the works’ deadline and the clients’requirements but the ecosystem’s ecology and the environmentalhealth were not taken into account. Recommendations are madeto handle CDW properly throughout its lifecycle. Theserecommendations aim to provide technological and logicalsolutions to grip CDW. AbstractDuring the summer field seasons of 1987–91, studies of central East Antarctica by airborne radio-echo sounding commenced. This scientific work continued in the 1990s in the Vostok Subglacial Lake area and along the traverse route from Mirny, and led to the discovery of 16 new subglacial water cavities in the areas of Domes Fuji and Argus and the Prince Charles Mountains. Twenty-nine subglacial water cavities were revealed in the area near Vostok, along with a feature we believe to be a subglacial river. Two subglacial lakes were discovered along the Mirny–Vostok traverse route. These are located 50 km north of Komsomolskaya station and under Pionerskaya station. We find high geothermal heat flux in the vicinity of the largest of the subglacial lakes, and suggest this may be due to their location over deep faults where additional mantle heat is available.

Chest CT performed after extracorporeal life support cannulation, demonstrated widespread aneurysms and a diagnosis of Kawasaki disease was made. Immunomodulatory therapy with immunoglobulin and glucocorticoid medication was commenced and the child was separated from extracorporeal life support after 48 hours. Our case highlights both an unusual presentation of Kawasaki disease and the role extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation can play in the treatment of this disease. It describes the youngest reported patient in the literature with Kawasaki disease rescued by extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation and highlights how extracorporeal life support therapy can facilitate appropriate investigations to resolve diagnostic uncertainty and treat the underlying condition.

Abstract:
AbstractThe paper discusses the nature and origins of the present-day insect faunas of Greenland, Iceland, and the Faeroes in relation to those of North America and Europe. The markedly warm-adapted faunas of the Early Tertiary were modified or eliminated as the climate cooled from the Oligocene onward to the Pleistocene glaciations. The Wisconsinan glaciation peaked about 20 000 years ago, and then gave way rapidly to the arctic and cool temperate climates of the present, and the North Atlantic islands thus became habitable again but separated by wide expanses of northern seas. At most only a few strongly arctic-adapted species could have persisted through the Pleistocene and no land bridges from the continents have existed since the Early Miocene, 20 million years ago.Southern Greenland, Iceland, and the Faeroes have been colonized across sea passages from the adjacent continents, mainly by air but partly by sea, during the postglacial period (ca. 10 000 years). The faunas are all young, with no endemic species among about 2000 in all; the faunas are not arctic but distinctly subarctic, mainly of the High and Low Boreal life zones, and derived from these life zones of North America or Europe. The naturally established faunas are small or very small, less than 14% of the corresponding continental faunas, and are obviously disharmonic, with some groups absent across the North Atlantic, e.g. Culicidae, Tabanidae, Tachinidae, Papilionoidea, aculeate Hymenoptera (except Bombus sp.). This indicates a severe "sweepstakes" route. The lack of Tachinidae is noteworthy because their hosts are plentiful, and indicates dispersal by air, with adult Tachinidae, unlike adult Lepidoptera, unable to make the journey; dispersal by a land bridge would offer parasites and hosts an equal opportunity. Aerial transport is indicated also by the high proportion of migrant species (of Lepidoptera) in the island faunas, and the arrival in Surtsey (a new volcanic island) of almost 25% of the Icelandic fauna in 12 years. The Surtsey observations suggest that the Icelandic fauna is preadapted to aerial dispersal, by selection during its journey from Europe. The fauna of southern Greenland is derived partly from boreal America and partly from boreal Europe. The North American moiety becomes vestigial in Iceland and the Faeroes and does not reach Europe. Iceland and the Faeroes have been populated from northwestern Europe, especially Britain and Scandinavia. A few species extend to southern Greenland and thence, or even directly, reach North America, and have thus completed a post-glacial traverse of the North Atlantic. The fauna of North Greenland differs fundamentally from all the above. It is a high arctic fauna, nearly identical with the high arctic fauna in Canada, and thus complete, not disharmonie, though very small by virtue of its high arctic nature. It has encountered no "sweepstakes" dispersal. North Greenland is separated from High Arctic Canada only by a narrow channel which permits winter dispersal by wind across unbroken sea ice. Biologically, North Greenland is part of the North American High Arctic, and although certain species (e.g. mosquitoes and butterflies) may extend somewhat into southern Greenland, it has not contributed to the basic faunas of the North Atlantic islands.Among other problems, the extreme variability in wing pattern of many Lepidoptera in Iceland, the Faeroes, and Shetland is also commented on.

Abstract:
In Pakistan, construction and demolition waste(CDW) is generated in voluminous amount each year. The recommendations include wastereduction and reusing waste, life cycle assessment and costing, environmental and economic impact, material flow analysis, andadvanced computerized-tools.

Abstract:
Multiple field studies provide qualitative accounts of usability barriers experienced by users of wheeled mobility devices on public transit. This study aimed to examine these usability barriers from the theoretical perspective of Environmental Docility by quantifying the relationship between functional capabilities of wheeled mobility device users and ingress–egress performance on accessible fixed-route transit vehicles in an urban setting. Twenty-eight wheeled mobility users each completed three trips on a predetermined route through the local public transit system. Ingress and egress times, user-reported usability ratings and open-ended comments were analyzed. Regression analyses indicated significant interactions between age and minimum parallel-park length on ingress and egress times. Specifically, lower functional capability reflected in older age and less maneuvering ability predicted decreased performance (longer ingress–egress times), indicating less adaptability to environmental demands and agreement with the Environmental Docility Hypothesis. Usability ratings and comments revealed difficulty with negotiating access ramps and turning maneuvers in the vehicle interior and in proximity to other passengers. Despite compliance with accessibility standards, current design of transit vehicles present substantial usability barriers for wheeled mobility users. Environmental Docility provides a theoretical basis to identifying modifiable factors related to person and environment for improving usability of public transit for people aging and/or with mobility impairments.

Several reviews have been published on sesquiterpenes, and on drimane-type sesquiterpenes, going through drimenol and related compounds among others. However, to our knowledge, this is the first review exclusively on drimenol. Although, the main focus is on drimenol as a synthon for other drimane-type compounds, synthetic routes to obtain racemic and (-)-drimenol are summarized, as well as its isolation and determination of its configuration, in the early fifties. The reviewed synthetic routes start from natural (-)-drimenol as chiral synthon in most of cases, nevertheless total syntheses are considered as well. The strategies where racemic drimenol is involved begin with biomimetic cyclization of trans-farnesol. Microbiological procedures to functionalize the A ring of drimenol are also commented. The revision is classified according to the chemical structure of the final product, which mainly correspond to structures of natural occurrence, although other related derivatives are also analyzed.

Abstract:
Abstract Importance Electronic prescribing promises to improve the safety and clarity of prescriptions. However, it also can introduce miscommunication between prescribers and pharmacists. There are situations where information that is meant to be sent to pharmacists is not sent to them, which has the potential for dangerous errors. Objective To examine how frequently prescribers or administrative personnel put information intended for pharmacists in a field not sent to pharmacists, classify the type of information included, and assess the potential harm associated with these missed messages. Design, Setting, Participants Medication record data from our legacy electronic health record were requested for ambulatory care patients seen at an academic medical center from January 1, 2000, to May 31, 2015 (20 123 881 records). From this database, 6 060 272 medication orders met our inclusion criteria. We analyzed a random sample of 10 000 medication orders with internal comments. Main Outcomes and Measures Reviewers classified internal comments for intent. Comments intended for pharmacists were also sorted into descriptive categories and analyzed for the potential for patient harm. Results We found that 11.7% of the prescriptions in our sample contained comments that were intended to be sent to pharmacists. Many comments contained information about the dose, route, or duration of the prescription (38.0%). Approximately a third of the comments intended for pharmacists contained information that had the potential for significant or severe harm if not communicated. Conclusion We found undelivered comments that were clearly intended for pharmacists and contained important information for either pharmacists or patients. This poses a legitimate safety concern, as a portion of comments contained information that could have prevented severe or significant harm.

Neural organization raises, in an especially clear way, a major problem confronting contemporary cognitive science. The problem (the “big issue” of my title) is: What is the relation between the strategies used to solve basic problems of perception and action and those used to solve more abstract or “cognitive” problems? Is there a smooth, incremental route from what Arbib et al. call “instinctual schemas” to higher-level kinds of cognitive prowess? I argue that, despite some suggestive comments, Arbib et al. do not resolve this issue.

Abstract:
Abstract Main problem for scheduling vessel transit voyages through the Northern Sea Route is the difficulty in predicting distribution of ice boundaries in regions that cannot be overcome by individual ice classes of vessels. Scheduling of voyage is related to speed that vessels can develop and moment of time when vessels will be able to commence and complete passage safely through areas that are main obstacle and are blocking longest transit passage through the Northern Sea Route. This applies to voyages carried out by vessels navigating on their own and with support of icebreakers. Additional problem is lack of consistency of content of maps of ice cover, which can be used for vessels voyage planning through areas where ice cover occurs. Results of this research on influence of uncertain information related with time window of conditions favorable for navigation of vessels of different ice classes on schedule of theirs voyage on example of summer navigation season 2017 are presented in this work.

Initially, many of these evacuees moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the closest major town that escaped significant hurricane damage. Using comments posted on the United States’ largest consumer comment website for apartment residents, this study tracks the self-reported residential satisfaction of tenants in Baton Rouge before and after the massive migration of refugees from nearby coastal areas. Although this migration resulted in a dramatic drop in residential satisfaction, within nine months satisfaction levels had rebounded substantially.

Abstract:
Safety in ice-covered polar waters can be optimised via the choice of a ship's route. This is of utmost importance for conventional as well as autonomous ships. However, the current state of the art in e-Navigation tools has left two open questions. First, what essential information are these tools still missing, and second, how they are seen by sea captains. In order to address these questions, we organised an ice navigation workshop to systematically collect routing justifications given by and waypoints planned by experienced sea captains that are particularly seasoned in ice navigation. Here, we report the outcome of that workshop. Our key findings include the reasoning and the commentary of the participants in looking for a better and safer route. These comments shed light upon both the official and unofficial code of conduct in open waters and boil down into a list of additional prerequisite information if further steps towards system autonomy are sought. Finally, the expert-planned waypoints are to be published alongside this paper to act as a benchmark for future maritime studies.

Abstract:
The conversations of 9 preschool-age children (chronological age [CA] 4:0 to 5:2, years:months) were tape-recorded as they traveled home from school with their parent in the family car. The speech samples (5 to 20 minutes in length) were coded to identify the semantic content of topics the children spoke about most often in this setting. References to specific persons, time frames, and content were noted. Overall, the children spoke most often about the here and now, making frequent references to the present and themselves or their parent. References to past and future events, however, were made more frequently in the car setting than at home or school by the same children (Marvin, Beukelman, Brockhous, & Kast, 1994). The content of most cartalk addressed the children's school projects and play, vehicles, food, and people's actions or positions. Most references to the past and to school projects occurred during the first 5 minutes of travel and often were prompted by the presence of a project remnant in the car or by a parent's questions or comments. References to future events occurred more frequently during the latter portion of the trip. The merits of viewing the family car (and car travel time) as an important setting for advancing young children's decontextual use of language are discussed.

In several case studies, the authors combine qualitative comments from an online hotel feedback website about popular travel destinations, as reported by business, pleasure, and mixed-use travelers. After extracting 1,893 useable customer comments, using a web spider application, the study software produced summaries of qualitative comments in the form of tag clouds, word networks, and word tree images. This technologically enabled analysis of consumer-reported information provides consumer researchers with more objective ratings of qualitative consumer assessments of their experience across various units of analysis, with several applications for corporate and operational management. Furthermore, several implications inform consumer researchers and corporate consumer research departments about effective ways to investigate and serve industry. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to test the influence of various content cues and characteristics on the followers’ online expressions of relationship quality. Second, the research aims to understand the moderating effects of content curation. Design/methodology/approach The sample comprised of 100 posts and 29,000 comments that were sourced from the Facebook pages of the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. The content was coded using the prior literature. Comments were manually coded using a deductive approach and captured the dimensions of relationship quality. Multiple regression was used to confirm the hypotheses. Findings Visuals, content popularity, volume of comments and content’s length have a positive effect on voters’ expressions of relationship quality. However, source credibility, argument quality, valence and interactivity did not have an impact. Additionally, content curation negatively moderated the effects of length and interactivity on expressions of relationship quality. Practical implications The findings emphasise the use of peripheral cues rather than the central route. Curating interactive and lengthy content should be avoided, however, curation of images and videos is well received. Originality/value The research contributes to the literature by understanding the role of marketer-generated content in building online relationships. Additionally, it explores the distinct impacts of created and curated content.

Abstract:
The ability of honeybees to gauge the distances of short flights was investigated under controlled laboratory conditions where a variety of potential odometric cues such as flight duration, energy consumption, image motion, airspeed, inertial navigation and landmarks were manipulated. Our findings indicate that honeybees can indeed measure short distances travelled and that they do so solely by analysis of image motion. Visual odometry seems to rely primarily on the motion that is sensed by the lateral regions of the visual field. Computation of distance flown is re-commenced whenever a prominent landmark is encountered en route. 'Re-setting' the odometer (or starting a new one) at each landmark facilitates accurate long-range navigation by preventing excessive accumulation of odometric errors. Distance appears to be learnt on the way to the food source and not on the way back.

This paper describes the rehabilitation of the existing bridge over the Olifants River. The bridge is on National Route 7 near Klawer and dates back to 1957. The defining feature of this elegant bridge is a concrete arch spanning 92.7 m. The existing bridge displayed extensive cracking, failed expansion joints and spall damage to beam soffits. Some columns showed vertical cracks while some foundations presented with horizontal cracks. The arch presented with longitudinal cracks on both the upper and lower surfaces and a previous attempt to fill the cracks proved unsuccessful, as the cracks continued to widen. This paper presents the investigations undertaken to determine the cause for the observed defects as well as the methods employed to rehabilitate the bridge. These measures include strengthening with carbon fibre, coatings, patch repair, replacement of reinforcement, replacement of expansion joints and replacement of parapets. The work commenced early 2016 and was substantially completed mid-2018.

User-generated content such as comments or tweets (also called by social information) following a Web document provides additional information for enriching the content of an event mentioned in sentences. This paper presents a framework named SoSVMRank, which integrates the user-generated content of a Web document to generate a highquality summarization. In order to do that, the summarization was formulated as a learning to rank task, in which comments or tweets are exploited to support sentences in a mutual reinforcement fashion. To model sentence-comment (or tweet) relation, a set of local and social features are proposed. After ranking, top m ranked sentences and comments (or tweets) are selected as the summarization. To validate the efficiency of our framework, sentence and story highlight extraction tasks were taken as a case study on three datasets in two languages, English and Vietnamese. Experimental results indicate that: (i) our new features improve the summary performance of the framework in term of ROUGE-scores compared to state-of-the-art baselines and (ii) the integration of user-generated content benefits single-document summarization.

There are different entry qualification routes to an honours degree course in occupational therapy. These differences, coupled with the considerable age-range of applicants, mean that students commence their courses from widely different starting points, which may have a bearing on their academic career. This study examined some chosen starting points briefly and, by retrospective analysis of 47 student progress files, looked at how students fared over their university careers. In particular, it examined whether certain pre-entry factors were associated with good degree results. A secondary focus was the relevance of A-level biology as an entrance criterion. The results indicated that students coming into occupational therapy via both traditional and non-traditional routes did equally well and that A-level biology was not associated with degree performance.

At their 2018 headlining appearance at the annual Punk Rock Bowling and Music Festival in downtown Las Vegas, NV, California skate punk stalwarts NOFX generated widespread controversy after band members quipped about the mass shooting that occurred eight months prior during the Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival in neighbouring Paradise, NV. After days of censorious media coverage, which prompted Stone Brewing to summarily terminate the band’s sponsorship contract in a widely circulated news release, the band issued a statement in which members collectively expressed remorse and apologized for the offending comments. Four decades of punk history notwithstanding, NOFX’s decision to apologize and offer mea culpas is something of a unicum. Punks, after all, are not typically in the business of extending olive branches or tendering requests for forgiveness. Accordingly, punk apologia is an understudied and undertheorized area of research. Utilizing Benoit’s Theory of Image Repair, this article adds to the limited stock of available research by critically evaluating the apologetic discourse following NOFX’s comments in Las Vegas through a systematic examination of the band’s letter of apology as well as audiences’ responses to that statement.

Abstract:
1. INTRODUCTION. In his Presidential address last year J. E. D. Williams treated us to a most absorbing, largely philosophical review of the development of the science of navigation over the last five centuries. In discussing the profound and enduring influence of radio waves on air navigation over the last century he commended as of ‘transcending importance’ the ‘homing quality’ of the radio beam in which the accuracy increases as distance from the transmitter decreases. He illustrated this ‘homing quality’ with references to the radio range for en-route navigation and the instrument landing system (ILS) for guidance to the runway. But he went further and remarked ‘Automatic landings in regular airline service are an example of how a perceived potential of the homing quality of radio has drawn to navigation a whole range of diverse applied sciences including, in this case, information theory, the properties of semi-conductors and the theory of servomechanisms and control, among many others.’

Abstract:
Cardiovascular disease is a worldwide human condition which has multiple underlying contributing factors: one of these is long-term increased blood pressure—hypertension. Nitric oxide (NO) is a small nitrogenous radical species that has a number of physiological functions including vasodilation. It can be produced enzymatically through host nitric oxide synthases and by an alternative nitrate–nitrite–NO pathway from ingested inorganic nitrate. It was discovered that this route relies on the ability of the oral microbiota to reduce nitrate to nitrite and NO. Next generation sequencing has been used over the past two decades to gain deeper insight into the microbes involved, their location and the effect of their removal from the oral cavity. This review article presents this research and comments briefly on future directions.

Abstract:
AbstractRussian (former Soviet) systematic studies of Antarctica by radio-echo sounding (RES) and ground-penetrating radar technique (GPR) were commenced in 1964. Since that time airborne RES surveys have covered about 5.5 × 106 km2 of the icy continent discovering remarkable geographic objects such as Subglacial Gamburtsev Mountains, and allowed studies of Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf, Amery Ice Shelf and Lambert Glacier. Ground-based investigations during the 1990s and 2000s revealed the structure of the Lake Vostok area and surveyed along the Mirny to Vostok and Progress to Vostok traverse routes. GPR studies during the 2010s were to select the site for a new snow-runway at Mirny Station, with the resumption of the aviation after a 25 year hiatus.

Abstract:
Abstract The Cretaceous tropical Atlantic Ocean was the setting for an initial tectonically controlled late Aptian shallow water (≤ 300 m) connection between the northern and southern portions of the Atlantic, followed by a deep-water connection by the Turonian. Ocean currents changed with deepening of the South Atlantic and progressive widening of the Equatorial Atlantic Gateway. Aptian evaporite deposition came to a halt. The Albian-Turonian interval includes a trend toward increasing sea level and was characterized by globally warm sea surface temperatures. Productive areas of coastal upwelling led to the deposition of organic-rich sediments varying in position along the African coast with time, culminating in the Benguela Upwelling that commenced in the Miocene. The drift of Africa in the Late Cretaceous indicates that throughout most of this period, the coastal area around the fossil locality of Iembe, north of Luanda, Angola, lay in arid latitudes (15o S to 30o S), which are generally characterized by sparse vegetation. This presumption is consistent with the utter lack of macroscopic terrestrial plant debris washed into near shore sedimentary environments and indicates that organic rich marine shales have a minimal terrestrial carbon component. The connection of the North and South Atlantic oceans severed a direct terrestrial dispersal route between South America and Africa, but opened a north-south dispersal route for marine amniotes. This seaway was used by late Turonian mosasaurs and sea turtles as evidenced by Angolasaurus and a new turtle taxon close to Sandownia, both found at Iembe and derived from northern clades. The presence of a sauropod in late Turonian sediments, also from Iembe, suggests that this animal was tolerant of warm, arid conditions as the desert elephants of Namibia are today. Further, it suggests that the waning terrestrial dispersal route between South America and Africa was situated in a region where high temperature, low rainfall, and sparse vegetation would be expected to restrict the movement of more mesic and ecologically sensitive species.
