Słynne Commonitorium Wincentego z Lerynu w 16. rozdziale obiecuje rozpracowanie niektórych kwestii w osobnym dziele. Przez wieki uważano, że obietnica ta albo nie została spełniona albo dzieło zaginęło. Commonitorium miało niebywały wpływ na rozumienie teologii katolickiej, a jednocześnie było oskarżane o antyaugustynizm oraz semipelgianizm. Most scholars have underlined the unity of these lines and have considered the conclusion of the first book and the begining of the second one as digressions.
