Abstract:
The nature, forms and results of the impact of communication on social life can be of significant value to various social groups and individuals. The concept to describe the value identity of different social and other groups is correlated with the criteria of communication. Professional communication is included in a person’s professional activity and creates, directly or indirectly, tangible and intangible values. The value of communication is determined by the hierarchy of professional and role statuses, the system of contexts and markers.

In this chapter the author explores Millenials’ participation in the public good, investigating whether they use social networking for social responsibility. Millenials, the wired, connected generation for whom social networking is an essential aspect of life, are often criticized for their lack of social responsibility. Social networking, as new media uniquely a part of Millenials’ wired and connected lifestyles, has the potential to “transform citizenship.” To investigate Millenials’ social networking and social responsibility, a Webnography was conducted. Findings go against conventional wisdom as the author found that Millenials use social networking to take social and political action, engage in social entrepreneurship, and conduct charitable solicitation and donation.

This chapter explores how academic libraries have used social media for broadcasting information, responsive communication, and engagement. Many libraries focus on the marketing aspect of social media, since it is a successful method of promoting events, services, and resources. However, exclusively using social media as a marketing tool ignores the best part of social media: the connections it fosters between people. The online community is just an extension of the in-person community that the academic library serves. This chapter examines the state of the literature on libraries' use of social media through the lens of increasing engagement and connections with the community as the key to successful social media.

Social electronic enterprises (e-enterprises) are an important part of the global business environment, which have developed from technological innovations that have enabled businesses to create and sustain financial endeavors that have an integrated social aspect. Part of the increase of social e-enterprises has been led by mobile social networks growing in popularity as people utilize mobile communication technology to communicate with stakeholders that are part of their social network. This form of community interactivity represents a technology innovation that has a strong combined business and social potential. This has enabled mobile social networks to form part of a social e-enterprises computer mediated communication that impacts the way technology is marketed to people. The purpose of this chapter is to review the existing research on technological innovations in social e-enterprise and mobile social networks by providing a set of research propositions that can be used to understand the adoption of social technology innovations.
