Full textFree Expression is an alternative pedagogical approach, communicative by definition. It was empirically discovered on the field some forty years ago. Approved in France by the Ministry of National Education, it was subsequently implemented by the General Inspection for Spanish in junior high schools and high schools in the West and South-West of France. Theorization was initiated, at tis posteriori phase, and it is in this framework that the present doctoral thesis has been carried out. We are thus examining the methodological status of this approach at a historical and theoretical level ; but more particularly, at a pedagogical level, by carring out a discourse analysis of what students ay and produce in the language classroom, (discourse that we taped and transcribed, in order to constitute our double Spanish and Greek corpus). "Free Expression" more specifically means oral free expression, (the discovery of reading and writing skills actually starting at the end of the first year). In effect, from the very beginning students are encouraged to produce their own speech, responding to the various documents proposed to them (which are mainly selected from target-language civilization). Individual speech in this case, as based on the description and/or analysis of the proposed documents (eg. Objects, paintings, etc. ) is initially uttered in native language code. Translation of these utterances is put forth by the teacher,-or a classmate, whenever possible-, and the learner thus repeats his statement in the target language. The teacher's role is to progressively diminish, insofar as the learner makes progress in this acquisition of the targest language

Full textThis work describes and analyzes from a didactic point of view the discourses of teachers and students on the place of digital tools in university courses of expression-communication in DUT whose aims, prescribed by the 2013 programs, are to equip students in their university curriculum and to prepare the professional integration of these future senior technicians. In this work, the question is posed of the relationships between numérical uses and what is taught and learned in these courses. The theoretical basis is constructed from the notions of instrument and instrumental genesis (Rabardel, 1995) from which I consider that a numerical tool is the result of a construction which partly takes place according to the representations that the teachers and students have what is taught and learned in expression-communication. In addition, Fluckiger's works (2011, 2014) on digital’s ordinary uses in the educational setting are used to describe and understand how students and teachers view the functions of the numerical tools used and their relation to the objects taught and learned. These objects are expressed in this research in terms of content (Delcambre, 2007/2013) and representations of these contents with a double aim: - first, show that these representations guide the choice of tools and their genesis; - secondly, show that the digital in these courses is not reducible to uses but also gives rise to the teaching and the learning of objects that mobilize numerical tools. This research aims to contribute to the current works in didactics on content (Daunay & Reuter, 2013) with the goal of discussing some publicized discourses on the omnipresence of digital in the educational landscape and the homogeneity of skills and practices of students. The notion of content in this research shows that the uses of digital tools are not only based on the transfer of habits and social skills but must be understood to what is played out in historically constituted disciplinary systems with their own issues and representations (Baron, 2014)

Full textSocial cognition is defined as our ability to interpret others' behaviour in terms of mental states (thoughts, intentions, desires, and beliefs), to empathize with others' state of mind and to predict how others will think and act. This kind of capability is used, for example, to « read » and to understand the emotional expressions of other people. Within the framework of this research we are interested in children's abilities to express and to interpret the emotional manifestations of other people as a highly mediating factor for their successful social adjustment. This question was explored from both a developmental and comparative perspective. We studied the developmental trajectories of 90 typically developing children, divided into three age groups of 4, 6 and 8 years, and compared them with those of 12 high-functioning autistic children. These groups were assessed with a number of tasks: an affective judgment task from pictures and stories, a narration task using scenes of emotional content and an interview about emotions (composed by production and evocation tasks). Results of the developmental study show that, as typical children get older, they increasingly provide adequate target responses, confusion between emotions decreases and finally they produce more complex narratives and develop expressive capabilities. Furthermore, results of the comparative study show that the autistic population is also able to recognize emotional information from faces, but they show significantly worse performance on other emotional tasks than typical children do. These results are discussed in relation to former research in the domain of emotional, pragmatic and theory of mind

Full textThis research provides a multimodal analysis of the expression of emotion in two monolingual American children and their parents. The children were filmed in natural interactions in a family setting from the ages of 11 months to 3 years 10 months, and from 1 year 1 month to 4 years. We adopted a broad definition of language in this research which encompasses various semiotic resources – from verbal resources (lexicon and grammatical features), to nonverbal (vocalizations, facial expressions, and gestures). We focus on the children’s acquisition and development of these verbal and nonverbal markers and on how they are used by their parents. Our research shows that children develop specific and distinct communicational patterns, which are greatly influenced by the input to which they are exposed. From a theoretical perspective, our research draws from a constructivist and functionalist approach (Tomasello, 2003), and our data is analyzed in light of language socialization and of studies which have shown that facial expressions and gestures are used as communicational signals in face-to-face dialogue. Our methodology combines quantitative and qualitative methods to investigate each speaker’s verbal and nonverbal behavior when expressing emotions.Having outlined our theoretical and methodological foundation (Part I), we present our results on the expression of three emotions (happiness, sadness, and anger) in children and adults (Part II). Our research suggests that while children’s linguistic development has little impact on the richness of their emotional expression parental input and attitudes both play a crucial role in the acquisition of each modality and in the transmission of communicational patterns

Full textBody language plays a major role in social communication. The overall aim of this thesis is to enlighten the contribution of the body in action in social interaction (SI) understanding. A developmental approach reveals the mechanisms responsible for the set-up of social abilities in children, who by nature are extensively social. In autism, a complex developmental disorder, on the contrary the social dimension is deeply affected. Our studies tackle the use of information carried by the body in action, in a social context in this pathology. The originality of our experimental paradigm relies on the use of human motion (HM), or point-light animations, that enable to isolate the social information carried by the body in action only. Subjects watched two actors engaged or not in a social interaction. A two-fold approach, behavioral and using fMRI, reveals the use and the set-up of motor simulation and questions its implication in autism. Children from 4- to 6-years of age and children with autism make use of visual information extracted from HM to understand SI, even though their performance does not reach those of adults. In adults, beyond the mentalizing network, we enlighten the importance of the mirror-neuron system for social cognition. In children, fMRI revealed the early functional recruitment of the inferior frontal gyrus, which is part of the mirror-neuron system, during the observation of social scenes. The general discussion establishes a tight link between the set-up of the mirroring system and the building of action representations. We also question the integrity of this process in autism. In conclusion, these studies bring to light the fundamental role of the mirroring mechanism in the social development of a child
Jacquet, Caroline. "Leibniz et Hesse, existence et harmonie." Thesis, Lyon 3, 2011. http://www.theses.fr/2011LYO30021.
Full textThe aim of this thesis, is to pursue and examine thoroughly the study of the leibnizian thought we began to process in our Mastership and D.E.A. Looking at the frontier between philosophy and literature, we develop the viewpoint of the leibnizian novelist, Hermann Hesse (1877-1962), whose impressive work offers numerous connections with leibnizian theory. We based our study on the main notions of existence and harmony, which are both important concepts in the works of Leibniz and Hesse. Throwing light on some underlying leibnizian subjects in Hessian poetic thought, we examine the impact of leibnizian metaphysics in the literary universe of Hesse, which, at first sight, escapes to rationality.Analysing the notions of existence and harmony in Hesse and Leibniz leads to define precisely some leibnizian concepts which are very essential ones : expression ( of bodies, minds, universe…), communication, conception of freedom, optimism. In the leibnizian universe, which is a "kaleidoscopic" one and a site where numerous interactions and concomitances take place, the individual, though being determined in his essence as a "monad", i.e. a completely self-sufficient entity, only exists by inclusion in the whole world it belongs to. We tried to reveal the omnipresence of a number of leibnizian concepts in Hesse, who conceives the world as a set of correlations and subtle resonances, governed by an immanent superior Being. Like the leibnizian monad, the hessian individual contains in himself infinite possibilities, which it is his own responsability to explore and develop, in the view of making the experience of happiness. The search for a kind of eudemonism, which constitutes a basic question in the hessian work, is also an existential instanciation of the philosophical concept of optimism, a leibnizian subject. In Hesse's work, man is in search of an art of living, which can make him get self-fulfilment and absolute serenity. Longing for a mental balance, and for a true communication with the outer world – maybe with some divine principle – he is searching his niche in life, in its universal harmony

Full textExpression of the body language in learning processes in class between pupils and teachers in primary school in ChinaIn France, many researchers are interested in the issue of body expression in learning process. In class, teacher's body student’s body is in a continual motion, which may cause breaks in teacher-student communication in learning. These discontinuities can also be assets for strengthening communication in learning. In the context of contemporary Chinese primary school, the research we have undertaken efforts to understand the type of relationship that the learner subject establishes with its environment at school, when it is an experiencing success or a difficult situat²ion. This is a fairly new area in China where research on the expression of the body in the teacher started only at the beginning of the XXIst century. Building on the Western theories of nonverbal communication, we undertook experimental studies in China. This study takes into account the multiple dimensions borrowing from various fields such as psychology, philosophy, sociology, anthropology, and those focused on non-verbal communication.Research starts from these three questions. What does the expression of the body in the interactions in favor of the existence of a link between body language and pedagogical relationship? From the point of view of Janine Lafon (Vers une gestion de la séduction dans la relation pédagogique, 1991), what is the place of the body in the pedagogical relationship? To what extent and how does the expression of the body in the interaction between teacher and students determine that there is a link between body language and pedagogical relationship? The issues are addressed from the organization of teaching in the primary school Chao Yang section of the city of Beijing. The research examines the body in the classroom, the teacher's point of view and from the perspective of the student: identify, explain the place of the body and gestures in teaching situations in China. To carry out this research, tin the same primary schools in Beijing, we built two questionnaires to a sample of 204 students and 16 teachers and produced two videos forty-five minutes each, a mathematics course for one, a Chinese language course to the other. To the extent that in the context of Chinese culture it is not usual to show emotions with gestural expressions, we believe that the teacher's gestures:1 - Play a role in furthering the interaction between him and the students (pedagogical relationship),2 - Encourage students to take courses with more attention,3 - Are essential to accompany the oral verbal expression of the master in his teaching practice. In other words,Chinese students would be influenced by the voice of the mistress during class lessons.Chinese students would be influenced by the actions and the physical posture of the teacher.Chinese students are more attentive during class when the teacher uses nonverbal gestures in teaching. There would be a consistency between the opinions of students and those of teachers facing the influence of teacher’s voice on the student. There would be a consistency between the opinions of students and teachers between those nonverbal communication and teaching effectiveness

Full textThe self-observation experience using the videotape technique does not only raise problems of a technical and practical nature; it also poses psychological problems. When a person is confronted by his or her own image, a series of personnal problems occasionally arises whose consideration extends beyong the scope of the exercise itself. However, one may ask whether this is the main source of all the difficulties and uncertainties involved in the exercise, and principally of the risks to which those who use it lay themselves open. In practice the questions they put, either directly or indirectly, are not restricted to this aspect alone, and their observations allow us to identify four "areas of investigation": the first concerns the issues involved in interpersonal communication; the second, the intersubjective determinants of the self-image; the third concerns the specific nature of the electronic image itself and the use of the equipment; lastly, the fourth raises the question of the actual purpose of this technique. By considering the various areas in depth we are better able to identify the real issues involved in the use of closed-circuit tv and to draw a number of lessons on the requirements for their use, and at the same time to open up prospects for the training of those who use this technique and for the future research in this field
Duan, Cuifang. "Etude de l'interaction entre l'éthylène et le jasmonate, hormones impliquées dans la production de caoutchouc naturel chez Hevea brasiliensis." Thesis, Montpellier, SupAgro, 2011. http://www.theses.fr/2011NSAM0032/document.
Full textJasmonates and ethylene are important signals in regulating the plant development and metabolism, and in response to biotic and abiotic stresses. Production of jasmonates is induced by mechanical wounding and pathogens. Jasmonic acid and ethylene are synergistically required to activate the expression of some defence related genes such as PDF1.2. Ethylene Response Factor 1 (ERF1) was demonstrated as a key integrator in the signal interaction in Arabidopsis. ERF1 belongs to AP2/ERF transcription factors superfamily, which plays a crucial role in plant development and response to biotic and abiotic stresses. Hevea brasiliensis is the sole source of natural rubber, which is synthesized in latex cells. Latex is expelled out after tapping the soft bark. Ethephon, an ethylene releaser, is an exogenous stimulant adopted widely in the rubber plantation for improving latex yield by prolonging latex flow and by stimulating the metabolism required for the latex regeneration. Jasmonates are also involved in the laticifer formation. Given the involvement of ethylene and jasmonic acid in the coordinated response to tapping and ethephon stimulation in Hevea brasiliensis, their interaction is considered to play an important role in latex production. The objective of this thesis is aiming to discover the key regulators in the interaction of wounding, jasmonate and ethylene in Hevea brasiliensis. Through the expression analysis on one group of 25 genes involved in the jasmonate and ethylene and cellular metabolism, we discovered that jasmonate and ethylene dependent and independent response coexist in Hevea brasiliensis. Temporal regulation can also have an influence on the gene expression. We then focused the study on the AP2/ERF transcription factor superfamily. Based on new generation of sequencing data, we identified 173 AP2/ERF members from several Hevea brasiliensis transcripts libraries. This superfamily is divided into 3 major families: AP2, ERF and RAV. Sixty six members are expressed in latex which may indicate that they have an important function in the latex metabolism. In addition to the microRNA 172, which is known to target AP2/ERF transcripts, six other microRNAs were predicted to inhibit transcripts of this superfamily. The identification of the AtERF1 orthologous gene was further conducted in Hevea brasiliensis. Expression analysis of 14 HbERF genes from the group IX was studied in response to wounding, methyl jasmonate and ethylene. A remarkable relative transcript accumulation was observed for genes HbERF-IXc4, HbERF-IXc5 and HbERF-IXc6. These candidate genes were further analysed for subcellular localization and trans-activation of the promoter of the PDF1.2 gene. The translational fusion HbERF-IXc4::GFP revealed that HbERF-IXc4 encoded a nuclear targeted protein like transcription factor. The HbERF-IXc5 was shown to mediate the activation of the PDF1.2 promoter, which is a defence gene dramatically induced by AtERF1 and ORA59. For that reason, HbERF-IXc5 is suggested to be AtERF1 ortholog gene in Hevea brasiliensis, which is at the crosstalk of jasmonic acid and ethylene signalling pathways. This identification of the Hevea brasiliensis AP2/ERF transcripts and the characterization of the ERF group IX provide general basis for studying the molecular regulation of both latex production in response to abiotic stresses and differentiation of latex cells. Our results suggested that the HbERF-IXc5 is an essential integrator of the jasmonic acid and ethylene signalling pathways in Hevea

Full textThe study of oro-facial asymmetries offers an indirect and suitable index to determine the hemispheric specialization of the processes associated to socio-emotional communication in non-human primates. However, few studies have been made in this domain and the available theories in humans are in part contradictory. In order to contribute to this field, i.e., hemispheric specialization of cognitive and emotional processing in primates, four experimental studies have been carried out during this doctorate. Firstly, two methods have been used to assess oro-facial asymmetries in adult baboons (a morphometric one and a free viewing of chimeric faces). A right hemispheric specialization for negative emotions was noticed. A third study demonstrated for the first time a population-level hemispheric specialization for the production of emotions in infant macaques and baboons. A last study tested the robustness of previous findings in chimpanzees concerning differences of hemispheric lateralization patterns depending on the communicative function of the vocalizations: intentional (left hemisphere) vs emotional (right hemisphere). Results confirmed the previous conclusions and allowed to discuss hypotheses about the origin of the evolution of language (speech). These collective findings are discussed within the context of the phylogeny of hemispheric specialization mechanisms underlying verbal and nonverbal communication in humans

Full textIn this convergence environment, only the « plate-forme » could be supply all of the communication formats. We wonder a question about the organization meltdown of the regulation, in the one side, the audiovisual communication and in the other side, the telecoms sector. Thus, a new institution has been created by the 29th February 2008 law n°8867 in matter of the setting and the management of the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) in place of the two preexisting regulation authorities whom run the audiovisual communication and the telecoms. In the same time, since 2007 in France, in consequence of the Senator Bruno RETAILLEAU report, the authorities took one’s stand for a possible fusion between The CSA and the ARCEP. This meltdown shall allow managing the audiovisual communication and the telecoms by the same regulation authority. However, this reform proposal is not still in the agenda, and raises new issues those even the Korean merger was not able to answer. Both the Korean system which runs with the convergence without a guarantee of the regulation independence in front of the State power, and the French system who guaranteed as possible this independence by separating the audiovisual communication regulation from the telecoms. We wonder on the appropriateness of the two systems, and which is the best performing to run the audiovisual communication regulation, to guarantee the independence of communication and the fundamental liberties which rule our democracies

Full textInterpersonal communication difficulties are regularly reported by individuals suffering from Myotonic Dystrophy type I (DMI) and Facioscapulohumeral muscular Dystrophy (FSHD), and their families. Our study focuses specifically on communication between patients and their spouses. In order to investigate the nature of communication difficulties, cognitive impairment, impaired facial expression and the attachment styles of subjects were examined. Our investigation procedure involved detailed observation of couples’ communication processes (verbal and non-verbal communication) while completing a problem-solving task. Furthermore, we construct a test of facial emotion recognition composed of images from the DM1 and control groups, which was administered to 57 naive subjects. Results enables us to confirm that impaired facial expression, social cognition difficulties (theory of mind) and attachment style play a major role, in the communication and comprehension difficulties reported by patients and their families. A phenomenon of relational misinterpretation seems to occur between patients and their partners. It is therefore important to raise couples’ awareness of the role of non-verbal communication in everyday life. Non-verbal communication not only provides information about an individual’s internal state (such as emotions), but also about his or her needs for attention and emotional support

Full textThis research aims to demonstrate and analyze the strategies used by the French and the Chinese to defend their face, by adding value to the other in the same time, so that interactions can advance properly. The pivot of our theory is mainly composed of the concept of the face of Erving Goffman, of the analysis of ethnographic interactions in the classroom of Cambra Giné, and methods of analysis of Véronique Traverso. In order to achieve this goal, we observed a group of Chinese learners in a French course at the University of Paris V for 2 months and made video recordings. It is from the original database that we have performed a very detailed transcription, in which not only the status are finely cut, but mimo-gestural and extralinguistic languages are also highlighted. On the other hand, a highly refined analysis reveals even the subtlest strategies. The results we have obtained clearly reflect, in the strategies of face games, a cultural difference in the interpretation of these strategies by the French and the Chinese. However, we noticed that the statutes teachers / learners have also played an important role, which determines certain actions of the participants. This study may be useful for those who want or are preparing to teach the French language to a Chinese public or people who share the Chinese culture (such as people in Hong Kong, the Taiwanese, the Singaporean, etc. )

Full textThe object of this thesis is to study the letters written by diderot to his mistress sophie volland between 1759 and 1774, the edition used being that of andre babelon (1930). The thesis describes the genesis of the letters - the liaison in which they originated and the material conditions in which they were exchanged. It then examines the poetic aspirations running through them, in particular the writer's effort to create a new language, characterized by directness in the expression of the + movements of the heart ;. The erotic content of the letters, a further intimate manifestation of the self, is also examined, though the impossibility of physical union, inherent in any correspondence, is emphasised. Here, however, the difficulty mostly lies in the ambiguous attitude of the writer who seeks physical union while simultaneously cultivating distance through the centrifugal and polymorphous nature of his desire. This attempted union, which gradually becomes an opening up of the self to the other, later assumes other forms : that of a diary which the writer promises to keep for sophie's sake and then gives up to turn to other types of epistolary description (medical among others) and other topics of conversation. Finally, this study analyses how diderot uses forms such as the self-portrait and scene depiction as vehicles for selfexpression - feeling in these cases being conveyed by features and attitudes - as he does too in accounts of his wanderings. In this respect, the + landscape-letter ; provides one of the most elaborate and adequate forms for expressing an unstable, changing self, and it foreshadows rousseau's invention of the +reverie

Full textAlthough Thailand is a constitutional monarchy country with the establishment of democracy and the development of legal texts, it is often subject to military intervention which creates the limitation of freedom of expression and the rights to communicate. The audiovisual market is dominated by the operators who obtain the concession contracts of the State for too long. The solution of the mentioned problem is proposed by the 1997 Constitution, which is to create an independent regulatory authority for audiovisual communication to improve the exercise of freedom of expression on communication law and to implement the basic principles of audiovisual communication. Moreover an allotment of new frequencies is also important for the full opening of the audiovisual market in order to vary the choices for viewers and listeners. The creation of the regulatory authority of audiovisual communication has been interrupted several times by the committee’s conflict of interest. In 2006, it was unfortunately withdrawn by the coup by repealing the 1997 Constitution. After that in The 2007 Constitution, it is required the establishment of a single regulatory authority for broadcasting and telecommunications to meet the development of converging technologies however the authority has not been implemented yet. So the gaps in regulation between two areas of communications are growing. In France, there are three of regulatory authorities of audiovisual communication which have been formed after the abolition of state monopoly of broadcasting. The study of French’s basic principles of audiovisual communication could guide Thailand in several ways since the rights and the freedoms of communication in Thailand have been democratically developing gradually

Full textThis research focuses on the acquisition and the development of negation in two monolingual French and English children filmed from 10 months to 4 years and 2 months old (66 hours) in natural mother-child dyadic interactions. We use a functionalist and constructivist theoretical approach (Tomasello 2003) but we also bring together French utter-centred approach to language, language socialisation and gesture studies. Our definition of language encompasses all verbal and non-verbal means of expression speakers use to position themselves within interaction. We developed a multimodal coding system relying on the use of several compatible programs to combine qualitative and quantitative analyses. This method offers the opportunity to investigate the expression of negation in verbal and non-verbal modalities in children under 4.After laying the theoretical background (Part 1), we will present our methodology (Part 2). Results show that negation refers to a vast range of pragmatic functions whose expression is fully embodied because it is conveyed through the synchronisation of several modalities of expression (Part 3). Our analysis of the interplay of modalities in the construction of meaning happens to be a great locus to account for the complexity of language. We also observe that negation is a meta-category which can be expressed by a variety of forms. Our research shows that the usage of synchronised modalities in negative contexts can be considered a linguistic and cognitive skill. Moreover, the set of forms for negation develops and specialises after 3 years and helps the child express various communicative intentions linked to negation

Full textCan existence be said, thought, expressed? This question is at the heart of Søren Kierkegaard’s works, which polemically oppose ‘logic’ to the concrete life of singular existing beings, affirming that thinking the logical equates to dying to oneself. For this reason, Kierkegaard has often been seen as an irrationalist or a fideist; these hasty conclusions fail, however, to take into account the important role that logic and language play in his efforts to philosophically describe the irreducible singularity and subjectivity of the existing human being. This study explores the role of logic and language in Kierkegaard’s existential philosophy, confronting it to the thought of Ludwig Wittgenstein, who qualified the Danish philosopher as the most profound thinker of the 19th century. Examining Wittgenstein’s reception of the Dane’s works and the use of logic in Kierkegaard’s philosophy, we show that both thinkers invite us to return to ordinary language and to become attentive to the uses that we make of language, to the diversity and richness of our possibilities of expression. This dialog between Wittgenstein and Kierkegaard further enables us to point out certain difficulties inherent in the Kierkegaardian conception of subjectivity and the forms of incommunicability that this may entail, and reopens the question of self, replacing a substantialist account of self with that of the ‘I’ speaking and expressing himself in and through his existence

Full textThis research work proposes to undertake a project based on two axes: the first axis revolves around a field study to observe the oral teaching and learning in Yemeni universities, in particular, at the heart of the French department of Ta’izz. The purpose of this monitoring is to identify the reasons why learners are verbally passive in this institution. The hypothesis for this assumption is that the verbal passivity of Yemeni learners in class is closely linked to their insecurity in speaking French. The second axis of our research is to think about the benefits of drama in the development of oral [verbal] expression in FLE classes, especially in managing the insecurity of learners when having to speak French. The hypothesis of our research is that a theater project aimed at an « aesthetic access to speech in a foreign language » and involving the learner in his entirety (gesture, voice, creativity, relation to self and to others) could help the Yemeni learner in building a new enunciation in French as a foreign language

The answer to this problem, relying largely on a quantitative scientific analysis will establish that a majority of Fundamental Rights and Freedom is praised and even sublimated by the net ; at the same time, a minority of rights and freedoms, deemed to be essential within the hierarchy of basic rights, suffer from this meeting. De facto, the ambivalence of this finding will naturally lead to wonder whether it is appropriate that the theory of fundamental rights can affect, through principles in line with the technical nature of the net, the construction and sustainability of the legal framework of an internet hardly apprehandable within the « traditional » branches of the of law

Hence, we would like to rehabilitate its fundamental corpus in order to formalize and institutionalize its instruction. The study consists in elaborating teaching contents for a keen but uninitated French public for whom no teaching strategy has been defined as yet. Our general hypothesis is that the transmission of knowledge intended for lay French pubic requires transposition. Our principal question is the balanced mix of body techniques and narrative significances in the teachable kathak On the theoritical level, we will comply with the principles of didactic transposition which supervises the passage of an objet of reference into a teaching objet and on the operational level, we will follow the methodology of didactic engineering which controls the conception and the effects of teaching contents

Full textThis study deals with particular problems arising when translating a journalistic text, particularly an editorial, depending on its specific features as well as journalistic prose;its purpose is to bring out a few remarks clarifying the French-Arabic translation of opinion journalistic text. The aim of this research is to study the translation strategies applied in a corpus made up of editorials taken from the French magazine Le Point. The study shows the important impact of culture in translating editorials. Thus, we firstnoticed that editorial headlines are influenced by the discourse genre and the journalistic tradition in which they are produced. The interpretation of these short textual segments requires a complex construction of meaning on the part of the translator. There is atendency of the French editorialist to use various strategies and techniques employed for persuasion in his editorials and headlines including humour. The study shows that the translator should be sensitive not only to conventions applying across genres in Arabicjournalistic culture, but also to humour effects and cultural citations in order for theintended effect to be achieved. Our research highlights as well the important role of thesource culture to determine the global translational behaviour

Thesis, Sorbonne université, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019SORUS625.
Full textThe autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by difficulties in socials skills, as emotion recognition and production. Several studies focused on emotional facial expressions (EFE) recognition, but few worked on its production, either in typical children or in children with ASD. Nowadays, information and communication technologies are used to work on social skills in ASD but few studies using these technologies focus on EFE production. After a literature review, we found only 4 games regarding EFE production. Our final goal was to create the serious game JEMImE to work on EFE production with children with ASD using an automatic feedback. We first created a dataset of EFE of typical children and children with ASD to train an EFE recognition algorithm and to study their production skills. Several factors modulate them, such as age, type of emotion or culture. We observed that human judges and the algorithm assess the quality of the EFE of children with ASD as poorer than the EFE of typical children. Also, the EFE recognition algorithm needs more features to classify their EFE. We then integrated the algorithm in JEMImE to give the child a visual feedback in real time to correct his/her productions. A pilot study including 23 children with ASD showed that children are able to adapt their productions thanks to the feedback given by the algorithm and illustrated an overall good subjective experience with JEMImE. The beta version of JEMImE shows promising potential and encourages further development of the game in order to offer longer game exposure to children with ASD and so allow a reliable assessment of the effect of this training on their production of EFE

Full textThis research concerns teaching French as a foreign language. It focuses exclusively on the development of French oral expression skills by way of synchronous text-based online exchange. The research began when the authors noticed that oral expression was a big handicap for Chinese students and that teaching practices in the classroom were insufficient to remedy it. Against this background, we referred to Information and Communication Technologies for Education (ICTE) and asked the question: could ICTE help create a teaching / learning device in order to improve oral activities, complement spoken French teaching, and improve significantly Chinese students’ oral expression skills? To answer this question, this paper focuses on a key pedagogical issue, by reference to the hypothesis that, as an auxiliary method, synchronous text-based online exchange could assist Chinese students majoring in French to improve their speaking skills. Focusing on both key learning theories and teaching information and communication technologies, examining this hypothesis permitted us to analyse the close relationship between written and oral expression in order to improve Chinese students’ oral expression skills. Results of our teaching experiment further confirmed the hypothesis, while also opening up new avenues of reflection on this issue and suggesting future research

Full textThis dissertation aims to understand the evolution of attitudes regarding the concept of difference among Cycle 2 children and their teachers - through their oral expression - before and throughout the learning process of a foreign language at school. The longitudinal study started in 2012-13 in three kindergarten schools located in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur comprehending a total of 155 students and 6 teachers. The study continued the following years (2013-14 and 2014-15) with the same groups in the 1st and 2nd grades of Elementary school with a total of 112 students. The attitudes and the oral expression of the students and of their teachers were observed in the beginning of each school year through a project here named "Éveil aux Langues-Cultures du Monde" (EALCM) inspired by the FREPA A Framework of Reference for Pluralistic Approaches to Languages and Cultures (Michel Candelier et al., 2012). The research analyses the evolution of the attitudinal disposition of the children and their teachers during a triennial period essentially considering their verbal interactions in the classroom

Full textAlthough French learners studying at BTS level at the National School of Dairy Industry and Biotechnologies (ENILBio) in Poligny have studied English as a second language for several years, they often have difficulty not only understanding it, but more importantly speaking it. As a teacher, it is a problem I am faced with daily and to which I haven’t been able to find explanations or solutions. The aim of this research is to explore the reasons that explain why students often feel embarrassed when they have to speak the language in and outside school, and to question their own practices and representations. This work aims at understanding why BTS students don’t speak English – or speak it little or badly – by linking their experiences with the language, their representations and their actual speaking skills. This research emphasizes what students have to say about this subject through questionnaires and face-to-face interviews in French. The gathered qualitative and quantitative results are analysed in relation to a speaking task which was carried out by student volunteers. The institutional context plays a crucial part in the fact that students speak English (or not) in and outside school, but the links between the representations of the English language, the students’ representations of themselves as language learners and their exposure to the language remain unclear. What are the prospects to help BTS learners to improve their speaking skills? This research tries to open new ways to answer this question

It allows to produce traditional styles, but also to convey a specific message with its corresponding style. In this thesis, we propose new solutions for enhancing shape, often hidden in realistic images. We first show how to extract relevant surface features on 3D dynamic scenes, taking the human visual system into account, in order to be able to control level-of-details. In a second step, we integrate this information in a variety of styles: minimalist black and white, realistic, or line-based renderings

Full textThe aim of this thesis is to make an Embodied Conversational Agent (ECA) sincere in order to, on one hand, improve its believability from the human's point of view, and on the other hand make it acceptable in an affective relationship between an artificial companion and a human. The first part of this work consists in creating a Multimodal Conversation Language (MCL) for an ECA, made up of Multimodal Conversation Acts (MCA) such as promise, apologise or demand. These MCA allow the agent to appear believable in its sincerity, by multimodally expressing its mental states in an appropriate way. The mental states carried by the MCA are formalised in logics: our will to represent mental states stemming from complex forms of reasoning (based on counterfactual reasoning or on the agent's norms and goals) that are mainly expressed via language (Oatley 1987) led us to design the BIGRE model (Beliefs, Ideals, Goals, Responsibility, Emotions). This model, based on a BDI-like logic (Belief, Desire, Intention), allows us to also represent some particular emotions that we call complex emotions, such as rejoicing, gratitude or regret. The expressive category of MCA contains acts that express these complex emotions (e.g. thank, regret): they are expressed by the language, along with the other appropriate multimodal expressions. We implemented the MCL in the ECA Greta, which enabled an evaluation of this language in terms of believability and sincerity perceived by the human. The second part of this work is about the ECA's reasoning capabilities: in order to allow the agent to reason in the dialogue, that is to update its mental states and its emotions and select its communicative intention, we designed a reasoning engine. This reasoning engine is based on the BDI behaviour cycle of Perception - Decision - Action and on the operators from the BIGRE model, thus enabling the manipulation of mental states resulting from complex reasoning (including complex emotions). The MCA in our language are part of our reasoning engine, and are used to achieve the ECA's communicative intention: for example if the ECA intends to express its gratitude, it builds a plan to achieve this intention, that consists of the MCA thank or congratulate, depending on the intensity of the emotion. One type of communicative intention, triggered by discourse obligations rules, participates in the local regulation of dialogue. Further, since the ECA is emotional, its sincerity brings it to express all its emotions. The generic character of this reasoning engine allowed us to implement it in the ECA Greta (where it is linked with the MCL) as well as in the agent MARC. The multimodal expression of MCA by the agent MARC was made possible by integrating Scherer's checks in the reasoning engine that we adapted to the context of dialogue. An evaluation of the reasoning engine with the agent MARC shows that the mental states deduced by the engine are appropriate to the situation, and that their expression (the expression of the agent's sincerity) is also appropriate

Full textResearch documenting the evolution of visual representations of institutions, events and public bodies between 1970 and 2010, from designers’intitial fascination with the concept of « corporate design » and « corporate identity » systems, the progressive reinforcement of « marketing », then the switch to « branding » and the artificial values attached to brands is chronologically analysed through a series of personal experiments related to an intentionally more civic design minded approach that permits the creation of real alternative methods. Analysing the relationship between identification and identity sees a proposed shift in focus concerning brand visibility and enhancement towards approaches that, with the help of shared visual languages, places at the centre – the intelligibility of complex structures – the representation of plurality, trends and relationships, - the integration of context – the coordination of multiple expressions

Full textActions and decisions most often take place in the presence of others. Previous social psychology studies have shown the effects of social information on external and observable behaviors. In this work, we aim to determine to what extent social information also influences the internal metacognitive monitoring processes underlying cognitive actions and decision-making. Non-verbal social cues (such as gaze direction and facial expressions) constitute an important part of human communication. Here, we have tested (i) whether non-verbal social cues are integrated into the processes of retrospective metacognitive monitoring (i.e. into the assessment of confidence-based judgment); (ii) whether filtering mechanisms are used to modulate the impact of these cues on confidence-based judgment, depending on cue relevance; and (iii) whether participants’ culture (collectivist versus individualist) modulates the impact of these cues on confidence-based judgment. Our work explores these issues through four sets of behavioral studies, two of which also exploring facial expressions using electromyography, and two of which exploring intercultural differences (comparing Japanese and French participants). Overall, we observed that non-verbal social cues that reinforce individuals' choices automatically increase their confidence in those choices, even when the cues are unreliable. The processing of these particular social cues (in the context of the assessment of confidence-based judgment) follow a heuristic pathway. The effects are similar among Japanese and French participants, although somewhat more marked among Japanese participants (i.e. the collectivist culture). The electromyographic recordings of significant facial expressions during the cognitive task likely reflect different mechanisms depending on individuals’ cultural values. We discuss our findings in the context of their clinical and learning applications

Full textEmotions are omnipresent. They are expressed by lexemes, fixed expressions, but also interjections, insults, gestures, facial expressions, the prosody of an utterance ... Besides, there are also the cases where by a certain syntactic structure for example we feel the emotional nuances. The question of emotion is therefore complex and subject to research in many areas. Based on Darwin's two fundamental postulates - the universality of the expression of emotions and its adaptability - researchers have developed different theoretical schools that make us ask the following questions: Are emotions universally expressed in the same way? Are they biologically determined? What role does the individual play in the resentment of emotions? What are the impacts of society and culture on the perception and expression of emotions? Etc. In the framework of thesis we propose to study these questions through a research on the expression of emotions in Chinese. To do this, we performed an analysis of the decoding of emotional discourses, a seminal analysis in Mandarin and French, in order to then build semantic networks that help to better understand the specificities of expression and the understanding of emotions in Chinese and French, an analysis of the conceptualization of emotions in Chinese, a search for innovations in the expression of emotions in Chinese in digital conversations and in oral, and finally a syntactic analysis of the linguistic expression of emotion in Mandarin, both oral and written. This study on the expression of emotions in Chinese allowed us to show that emotion is a psychological phenomenon largely influenced by social and cultural factors

Noteworthy, these publications were notauthorized by the Lebanese authorities at that time.It analyses the nature of a significant selection of 5 of the most representative publicationsof that period, along with their messages, their readers and their different means ofdistribution. As a first study of its kind, this research is based on archival documents, which contect waslater handled with depth, thus analysing the language and the semiotics when thepublication permitted so. Accordingly, we chose to reflect the views of Falastine Assawra,Al Qaeda, Al Marouni, Loubnan and Sawt Al Hakika, examining the direction of thecommunication in each.Noteworthy, this reseatch deals with instruments that reflect a fundamental and crucialstep in the evolution of the Lebanese press. It is essentialy a means of communication usedduring times of crisis, serving political propaganda, sometimes agendas. Nevertheless, these publication a manifestation of the freedom of speech. We conclude that war is made with both arms and media, especially when it involves aclash of ideologies. It also teaches us tha in a multi- confessional country like Lebanon, history is not only a point of view, but also a clash for image-building that goes beyondfacts. Michel Foucault said it quite well: "we may say what you see, what we see does notalways stand out in what we say."

Full textThe aim of this thesis is to design a logic of the behavior of an artificial agent that interacts rationally with a human. The rationality of her behavior enables her on the one hand to build and follow communication plans and on the other hand to follow communication conventions. Our research is oriented towards a logical model of the agent's reasoning about what she says and feels with the aim of making her interactions with a human the most natural for the latter. The first step of our work was to extend a logic modeling belief update such that the update follows a communication's protocol. In this framework, an agent following the rules of cooperative behavior respects coherence between what she believes, what is the case, and what she can say according to her communication plan. The second step concerned the agent's expression of emotions. This modeling builds on primitives representing what an agent says, what she could have done, her representation of the world and her desires and moral values

Full textThe impact of today’s information and communication technologies is essential forthe exercice of human rights, particularly concerning freedom of expression and privacyprotection. With the massive use of Internet, mobile phones and – more recently – other smart objects and digital services, the tension mounts with respect to establishing the limit between public and private space online. Likewise, the freedom of expression, communication and information are at risk as - under the pretext of fighting cybercrime and cyber terrorism, as well as maintaining public order - public authorities interfere with online contents by controlling, monitoring, restraining or prohibiting it. Especially as both States’ and private companies’ capacities in creating extremely precise databases identifying information on persons’ consumption habits, itineraries, thoughts and opinions gradually increase. Therefore, the need to redefine the way in which the respect of fundamental freedoms is taken into consideration in the context of digital environment becomes urgent
