Abstract:
Abstract. Maximum-A-Posteriori (MAP) decoding algorithms are important HW/SW building blocks in advanced communication systems due to their ability to provide soft-output informations which can be efficiently exploited in iterative channel decoding schemes like Turbo-Codes. Multi-standards demand flexible implementations on programmable platforms. In this paper we analyze a quantized turbo-decoder based on a Max-Log-MAP algorithm with Extrinsic Scaling Factor (ESF). Its communication performance approximate to a Turbo-Decoder with a Log-MAP algorithm and is less sensitive to quantization effects. We present Turbo-Decoder implementations on state-of-the-art DSPs and show that only a Max-Log-MAP implementation fulfills a throughput requirement of ~2 Mbit/s. The negligible overhead for the ESF implementation strengthen the use of Max-Log-MAP with ESF implementation on programmable platforms.

Abstract:
Turbo codes have been widely used in wireless communication systems due to their good error correction performance. Under time division long term evolution (TD-LTE) of the 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) wireless communication standard, a Log maximum a posteriori (Log-MAP) decoding algorithm with high complexity is usually approximated as a lookup-table Log-MAP (LUT-Log-MAP) algorithm and Max-Log-MAP algorithm, but these two algorithms have high complexity and high bit error rate, respectively. In this paper, we propose a normalized Log-MAP (Nor-Log-MAP) decoding algorithm in which the function max* is approximated by using a fixed normalized factor multiplied by the max function. Combining a Nor-Log-MAP algorithm with a LUT-Log-MAP algorithm creates a new kind of LUT-Nor-Log-MAP algorithm. Compared with the LUT-Log-MAP algorithm, the decoding performance of the LUT-Nor-Log-MAP algorithm is close to that of the LUT-Log-MAP algorithm. Based on the decoding method of the Nor-Log-MAP algorithm, we also put forward a normalization functional unit (NFU) for a soft-input soft-output (SISO) decoder computing unit. The simulation results show that the LUT-Nor-Log-MAP algorithm can save about 2.1% of logic resources compared with the LUT-Log-MAP algorithm. Compared with the Max-Log-MAP algorithm, the LUT-Nor-Log-MAP algorithm shows a gain of 0.25~0.5 dB in decoding performance. Using the Cyclone IV platform, the designed Turbo decoder can achieve a throughput of 36 Mbit/s under a maximum clock frequency of 44 MHz.

Abstract:
In this communication, the design and performance of strip line feed U-shaped printed monopole antenna for Bluetooth/WI-Max/WLAN communications systems is reported. Proposed monopole antenna has an eight shaped slot on the patch and an eight shaped ring structure in the ground plane with metallic reflector just beneath the radiating element. The CST Microwave Studio 2014 is used for the simulation analysis of antennas while measurements are performed by applying Vector Network Analyzer. This radiating structure provides triple broad impedance bandwidths i.e. 265MHz (in 2.280 GHz to 2.545 GHz frequency range), 116 MHz (in 2.660 GHz to 2.776 GHz frequency range) and 2.12 GHz (in 3.83 GHz to 5.956 GHz frequency range), wider 3dB axial ratio bandwidth 1.33 GHz (in 4.69GHz to 6.02GHz range), flat gain (with maximum gain close to 5.56 (dBi) and good radiation patterns in the desired frequency range. This antenna may be a useful structure for 2.45GHz Bluetooth communication band as well as in WLAN and Wi-Max communications bands.

Abstract:
Drawing on recent research on communication for urban development and on new research on ’Localising the Habitat Agenda’, this article focuses on the communication aspects of transferring projects and good practices to different cultural contexts. Communicating knowledge for the poor has been a research priority for development agencies in UK and USA for the last decade, as communicating best or good practices for achieving development has not been particularly easy or successful. In order to understand the reasons for these communication gaps, the Max Lock Centre at the University of Westminster, UK, undertook research into the complexity of the communication process, and developed methodologies to ensure the effective transfer of knowledge to differing contexts. There are two related challenges to this task. The first is the understanding that communication is a complex process involving actors and actions. The complexity of the interplay between these explains why the communication process suffers gaps that are difficult to bridge; this is why knowledge or best practices can be only communicated if certain conditions are met. The second involves finding a methodology for communicating projects and best practices to different contexts in which practices can be applied.

Abstract:
Obedience has become an ethnic identity for Madurese, expressed in the communicative expression ‘Bhuppa’-Bhâbbu’-Ghuru-Rato.’ Thus, the meaning of hierarchical obedience has been structured firmly into daily communication routines and behaviour as a form of self-development. The pattern of patron-client communication is a strong stimulant in the tradition of obedience that forms hegemonic power through patron-client-dominating authority. Interestingly, in Madurese society, such a relationship can actually be classified as exploitative-mutualistic. The study of rationality perspective on the meaning of communication and obedience relations shows that not all Madurese actions follow rational rules in Weber’s perspective. Indeed, there has been a reconstruction of the meaning of obedience in Madurese so that the rationality of needs becomes a justification for irrational actions and the relatively long-standing patron-client communication bond in Madurese culture. The phenomenological approach was considered most suitable for this research because it could reveal the natural meaning of Madurese specific obedience behaviour through explanation of phenomena and causes.

Abstract:
In this paper the femtocell base station called as Femtocell Access Point (FAP) was descriped and studied. The femtocell (FAP) is fully user deployed and hence reduces the infrastructure, maintenance and operational cost of the operator while at the same time providing good Quality of Service (QoS) to the end user and high network capacity gains. The surest way to increase the system capacity and data rates can be achieved efficiently in a wireless system by getting the transmitter and receiver closer to each other. In a network with nomadic users, this inevitably involves deploying more infrastructure, typically in the form of microcells, hotspots, distributed antennas, or relays. Femtocells deployed in the macrocell significantly improve the indoor coverage and provide better user experience. In this paper the four indoor propagation path loss models with simulated data for different scenarios at 2 GHz are presented In additions the Simulation were carried out in two different scenarios LOS and NLOS for max 50m femtocell and max 100m macrocell network. The simulation results was implemented using Matlab code software.

Abstract:
Free space optical communication systems are the future of the communication systems which can meet the needs of the end users who are demanding high bandwidths to support high-speed communication. These merits are due to its numerous advantages as well as their better performance. This paper studies the effect of environmental parameters like rain, fog, haze, snow, and dust on the performance of optical wireless communications using Opti-system program. This work considers the effect of visibility as well as operating wavelengths on atmospheric attenuation in different weather conditions for free space optical link. For different weather conditions the max distance between transmitter and receiver can also be estimated. The system analysis depicted the better performance of the Multi-Input/Multi-Output (MIMO) configurations compared to Single Input/Single Output (SISO) at different weather conditions.

Specifically, the probability density function (PDF) of the end-to-end SNR for the considered system is derived when the controlled selection criterion is considered. Base on that PDF, the average spectral efficiency is then derived and investigated. The results show how the spectral efficiency of the system deteriorates as controlling the selection of a relay. Metaphors often serve as the basis of invention for scientific theories. When we identify these metaphors in Planck's original 1900 quantum paper, it is clear that Planck did consider the quantum postulate to be important. However, we also see that he does not consider the quantum postulate to be revolutionary.

Abstract:
A novel communication and navigation fusion system (CNFS) based on cellular communication system is developed to realize high-accuracy localization. Because of the small signal coverage of every transmitter and the fluctuation of received signal and noise, the CNFS positioning receiver requires fast processing of signal and stable performance. As the first operation performed by receiver, signal acquisition with fast speed and stable detection performance should be realized. This paper proposed a novel fast acquisition method with fine detection performance using search space reduction (SSR) and DD-MAX/TC-CACFAR techniques. SSR method is utilized to reduce the size and number of search space in the cross ambiguity function (CAF) evaluation stage. DD-MAX/TC-CACFAR method is employed to realize fine and stable detection performance in signal detection stage. The expressions of acquisition time are then derived considering the size and number of search space and the detection performance. Theoretical performance analysis and Monte Carlo simulation, which contain the comparison with other acquisition method, are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed method. Simulation and analysis results show that the proposed method can realize fast acquisition with fine and stable detection performance.

Abstract:
This paper deals with data transfer from one computer to another. The serial ports of the computer are used. MAX 232 is used to convert RS 232 logic to TTL logic and then an optical transmitter circuit is used to transmit data via fiber optic cable. The optical transmitter circuit has an LED which is matched with the cable. At the receiver an optical receiver circuit is used which receives data using a photo diode and a MAX 232 again to convert TTL logic to RS 232 for the serial port at the receiving end computer. The desired baud rate can be set. Although the internet can be used, but due to its time consuming nature, one can implement data transfer using wireless medium, though at a relatively high cost. The need, therefore, is felt for fiber optic communication which is cheaper and more suitable for the task. It is cheaper than wireless medium and is prone to lesser loss as compared to wireless medium.

Abstract:
Body reflections in the ultraviolet (UV) are a common occurrence in nature. Despite the abundance of such signals and the presence of UV cones in the retinas of many vertebrates, the function of UV cones in the majority of taxa remains unclear. Here, we report on an unusual communication system in the razorback sucker, Xyrauchen texanus , that involves flash signals produced by quick eye rolls. Behavioural experiments and field observations indicate that this form of communication is used to signal territorial presence between males. The flash signal shows highest contrast in the UV region of the visual spectrum ( λ max ∼380 nm), corresponding to the maximum wavelength of absorption of the UV cone mechanism in suckers. Furthermore, these cones are restricted to the dorsal retina of the animal and the upwelling light background is such that their relative sensitivity would be enhanced by chromatic adaptation of the other cone mechanisms. Thus, the UV cones in the sucker have optimal characteristics (both in terms of absorbance and retinal topography) to constitute the main detectors of the flash signal. Our findings provide the first ecological evidence for restricted distribution of UV cones in the retina of a vertebrate.

Abstract:
Max Weber analyzes the science of the Modern Period. The revolution in physics at the beginning of the 20th century, the creation of quantum mechanics bring to the fore another type of scientific thinking. It is important to note that past knowledge in this case is not refuted, not destroyed, it becomes marginal and enters into communication with its competitor. It is this type of communication with Weber’s philosophy of scientific thinking that helps us to understand its specificity. According to Weber, new knowledge is derived from the previous one, refuting its truth. On this basis, Weber writes that science is different from the art, where the created works retain their significance regardless of the time when they were created. For modern science the predecessor is necessary as another, without which not any communication is possible. Classical science, about which Weber writes, is necessary and continues to function. Satisfying the reemerging needs of society, it can detect previously hidden possibilities and, at the same time, encourage new scientific thinking to strengthen its position. The concept of revolution disappears gradually from the works on science. Instead, sociological concepts such as an innovation center or a technopark that combine simultaneously changes in the logic of knowledge and in the technical equipment of society are becoming popular. Logical and social characteristics of science are combined, the boundary between them becomes less noticeable. If in the era of classics the artificial world surrounding man was built on the basis of the laws of nature, now it is being created on the basis of the laws of thinking. For Weber, this world was silent and dead, this is what classical science testified to. Now the world around us is endowed with artificial intelligence, and we must be able to communicate with it. To understand Weber, it is necessary to establish contact with the world of classics, and not to try to destroy it and to declare it worthless.

Abstract:
The computer music community has historically pushed the boundaries of technologies for music-making, using and developing cutting-edge computing, communication, and interfaces in a wide variety of creative practices to meet exacting standards of quality. Several separate systems and protocols have been developed to serve this community, such as Max/MSP and Pd for synthesis and teaching, JackTrip for networked audio, MIDI/OSC for communication, as well as Max/MSP and TouchOSC for interface design, to name a few. With the still-nascent Web Audio API standard and related technologies, we are now, more than ever, seeing an increase in these capabilities and their integration in a single ubiquitous platform: the Web browser. In this article, we examine the suitability of the Web browser as a computer music platform in critical aspects of audio synthesis, timing, I/O, and communication. We focus on the new Web Audio API and situate it in the context of associated technologies to understand how well they together can be expected to meet the musical, computational, and development needs of the computer music community. We identify timing and extensibility as two key areas that still need work in order to meet those needs.

Abstract:
Abstract A 14-year-old adolescent girl presented with severe congestive heart failure, progressive throughout 3 months. A precordial thrill, machinery-like murmur, and right bundle branch block were noted. Death occurred despite digitalis and diuretic therapy and removal of pleural and ascitic fluid. The autopsy revealed 2 multilocular cystic structures in the interventricular septum consistent with being spontaneously drained valve ring abscesses. One of these lesions formed a fistulous communication that penetrated through the interventricular septum between the right aortic sinus of Valsalva and the crista supraventricularis that connected to the right ventricle. Another lesion, an adjacent separate but similar cystlike structure, communicated only with the left ventricular cavity. Although the cause of these lesions is uncertain, it seems probable that they are the residue of spontaneously drained and healed valve ring abscesses. Max Brödel, a medical illustrator and the first director of the Department of Art as Applied to Medicine at The Johns Hopkins University, drew previously unpublished figures of this patient's cardiac lesions. These illustrations exhibit Brö del's superb command of both art and medicine essential to his ability to make complex anatomic relationships demonstrable. We discuss Brödel's career and his influence on both the art and science of medicine.

Abstract:
This paper considers a system consisting of a nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA)-based device-to-device (D2D) communication system within a cellular network, in which the time and frequency resources are shared by everyone. In particular, D2D groups that constitute different pairs are assigned to the subchannels that the cellular users occupy. A max–min fairness optimization problem with power budget constraints is formulated and solved in this paper to reduce the mutual interference between the cellular users and D2D devices that substantially impacts that with the worst channel condition. For a low computational complexity solution, we propose the use of the bisection method together with the solution of a system of linear equalities. The proposed algorithm can provide uniformly good service to all of the cellular users and D2D devices in the coverage area by utilizing the minimal total transmit power. The simulation results indicate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in the improvement of the spectral efficiency of the worst user under the different widely used subchannel assignments and pairing techniques.

Abstract:
Compression loading test was performed to determine the dependency between force and deformation of jatropha, sunflower and rape seeds with respect to different pressing seed volume. Parameters such as max. deformation and energy were measured. The results which were statistically significant at (P < 0.05) show that rape seed with lower deformation values utilized greater energy than the seeds of jatropha and sunflower which obtained higher deformation values in that order of magnitude. The energy (J) was determined by the area under the force-deformation curve while deformation (mm) was obtained directly from the compression test. Based on the statistical analysis, the energy and deformation with respect to the different pressing seed volume of jatropha, sunflower and rape approximately showed linear relationship.

Abstract:
In this paper, we propose a Multi-Agent Classifier (MAC) system based on the Trust, Negotiation, and Communication (TNC) model. A novel trust measurement method, based on the recognition and rejection rates, is proposed. Two agent teams, each consists of three neural network (NN) agents, are formed. The first is the Fuzzy Min-Max (FMM) NN agent team and the second is the Fuzzy ARTMAP (FAM) NN agent team. An auctioning method is also used for the negotiation phase. The effectiveness of the proposed model and the bond (based on trust) is measured using two benchmark classification problems. The bootstrap method is applied to quantify the classification accuracy rates statistically. The results demonstrate that the MAC system is able to improve the performances of individual agents as well as the team agents. The results also compare favorably with those from other methods published in the literature.

Abstract:
Flow control is the dominant technique currently used in communication networks for preventing excess traffic from flooding the network, and for handling congestion. In rate-based flow control, transmission rates of sessions are adjusted in an end-to-end manner through a sequence of operations. In this work, we present a theory of max-min fair, rate-based flow control sensitive to priorities of different sessions, as a significant extension of the classical theory of max-min fair, rate-based flow control to networks supporting applications with diverse requirements on network resources. Each individual session bears a priority function, which maps the session's priority to a transmission rate; the priority is a working abstraction of the session's priority to bandwidth access. Priority functions enable the specification of requirements on bandwidth access by distributed applications, and the formal handling of such requirements. We present priority max-min fairness, as a novel and well motivated fairness condition which requires that assigned rates correspond, through the priority functions, to priorities comprising a max-min vector. We also introduce priority bottleneck algorithms gradually update a session's rate until when its priority is restricted on a priority bottleneck edge of the network. We establish a collection of interesting combinatorial properties of priority bottleneck algorithms. Most significantly, we show that they can only converge to priority max-min fairness. As an application of our general theory, we embed priority bottleneck algorithms in the more realistic optimistic framework for rate-based flow control. The optimistic framework allows for both decreases and increases of session rates. We exploit these additionally provided semantics to prove further combinatorial properties for the termination of priority bottleneck algorithms in the optimistic framework. We use these properties to conclude the first optimistic algorithms for efficient, max-min fair, rate-based flow control sensitive to priorities.
