Abstract:
L'élaboration d'un paradigme conceptuel susceptible d'encadrer la recherche sur l'organisation spatiale des sociétés nécessite d'abord qu'on définisse certains concepts d'ordre substantif (compétition, communication, proximité), méthodologique (paradigme, modèle, théorie) et philosophique (structure, forme, fonction, processus). À l'aide de ces concepts, il est possible de résumer l'évolution épistémologique récente en géographie humaine. Il est suggéré que, depuis dix ans, la recherche de pointe s'est déplacée de l'analyse spatiale vers la géographie du comportement. Un paradigme qui relie formes et processus spatiaux d'une part, et processus temporels d'autre part, semble émerger présentement. Un tel cadre théorique gagnerait à être déduit de certaines caractéristiques fondamentales du comportement humain et social, telles compétition, communication et proximité.

Dans la plupart de ses romans, Milan Kundera met en scène un va-et-vient constant entre le territoire tchèque et d’autres pays essentiellement de l’Ouest, à travers les déplacements des personnages. Nous interrogeons ces flux d’im/migration centrifuge ou centripète (parfois ne dépassant pas le stade du simple projet) qui semblent participer à l’élaboration d’une poétique visant à établir un réseau de communication entre le déplacement spatial et le recentrement identitaire. Trois axes paraissent révélateurs du questionnement que l’auteur organise autour de cette problématique : d’abord la question de l’exil et/ou de l’immigration en tant que prétexte à l’évocation du rejet du pays natal et de la fuite des autres ou de soi ; ensuite celle de l’immigration à rebours qui se penche sur la perte et la reconquête de l’espace comme révélateurs de l’identité individuelle ; enfin, celle de la démystification de l’espace commun ou communautaire pour constituer un cheminement vers la réappropriation de soi. Nous partons de ce troisième axe dans une étude centrée sur la question de l’identité dans certains de ses romans.

SUMMARY The Russian Language in the New Relations of the European Space Agency The recently signed Framework Agreement between the European Space Agency and the Soviet Union opens the door to an intensified cooperation between the two space powers in a variety of areas of common interest. Whereas ESA-financed industrial project and research work, both with the USA and within the 13 member-states of the Agency, is usually conducted in English (English and French being the two official languages of ESA), the Soviet Union has its own long history of international space activities with Russian used as the unique means of communication. The linguistic aspects of the new Agreement and its first implementation are placed in the context of the totally different organizational structures represented by the two parties. Many of the communication problems on the executive level appear to be caused by Western concepts of project management and control which are difficult to translate into meaningful Russian equivalents. The linguistic interaction, which is a natural consequence of joint project work, has caused the first loan words to cross the borders from both sides. SOMMAIRE La langue russe dans les nouvelles relations de VAgence Spatiale Européenne L'Accord Cadre signé récemment entre l'Agence Spatiale Européenne (ASE) et l'Union Soviétique ouvre la porte à une coopération accrue entre les deux puissances spatiales dans une variété de domaines d'intérêts communs. Alors que les travaux de développement industriel et de recherche, financés par l'ASE, sont conduits habituellement en langue anglaise, non seulement avec les États Unis d'Amérique, mais également à l'intérieur des treize pays-membres de l'ASE (l'anglais et le français étant les deux langues officielles de l'ASE), l'Union Soviétique a une longue histoire d'activités spatiales internationales pour lesquelles la langue russe était le moyen unique de communication. Les aspects linguistiques du nouvel accord ainsi que sa première mise en application sont placés dans le cadre de deux partenaires ayant des structures totalement différentes. Il semble qu'un grand nombre de problèmes de communication qui apparaissent au niveau d'exécution soient causés par des concepts occidentaux de la gestion et du contrôle de projets qui sont difficiles à traduire en équivalents russes significatifs. L'interaction linguistique, conséquence naturelle du travail autour d'un projet commun, a provoqué le transfert, d'un côté comme de l'autre, des premiers mots d'emprunt.

Le milieu sous-marin est doublement dispersif, en temps et en fréquence. L'utilisation récente de signaux de communication multi-porteuses offre une solution pour lutter contre la sélectivité fréquentielle. Mais ce type de signaux reste très sensible à la dispersivité fréquentielle. Cette thèse se concentre sur le problème de la dispersivité fréquentielle qu'est l'effet Doppler. Des méthodes d'estimation du paramètre Doppler sont développées pour des signaux multi-porteuses DMT. Est également abordé le problème de la compensation Doppler dans les cas mono et multitrajets. Une méthode générale et une méthode spéci que au signaux multiporteuses sont présentées et testées sur simulation. Cette thèse se distingue par son modèle du canal sous-marin qui considère un paramètre Doppler différent sur chaque trajet. Ceci résulte de la géométrie du problème et des vitesses émetteur/récepteur considérées. Nous présentons nalement des méthodes pour séparer les différents trajets arrivant sur une antenne a n de pouvoir considérer un paramètre Doppler unique sur chacun.

En s'interrogeant sur la description de l'espace physique, les échelles architecturologiques pré-forment l'énonciation d'un espace interprété du point de vue de l'architecturologie. Ce point de vue scientifique, s'il est possible de l'appliquer, conduit à fabriquer un modèle de l'espace observé en termes d'opérations pertinentes cognitives de conception. Si l'espace peut être décrit grâce aux mots savants du chercheur-architecturologue, la conceptualisation qui procède de cette perception, rend compte d'une représentation de l'espace considéré comme conçu. Mais l'espace perçu n'est pas l'espace conçu. La qualité architecturologique, opération de perception de mesures pertinentes, rendrait compte de l'apparence sous laquelle se présente comme réel l'espace perçu et, serait à l'espace de perception ce que l'échelle architecturologique est à l'espace de conception : deux opérations cognitives d'attribution de mesures pour une modélisation de l'espace architecturo-urbain conçu perçu<br>If we examine the tools of physical space description, architecturology scales can help to form architecturology interpretation. De nombreuses études portant sur les dialectes ont ouvert de nouvelles perspectives sur l’origine, le maintien et la fonction des dialectes chez les oscines. Trois hypothèses ont été formulées : le modèle historique (les dialectes résulteraient d’effets secondaires de l’apprentissage vocal), le modèle de spécialisation raciale (les dialectes résulteraient de populations génétiquement distinctes) et le modèle d’adaptation sociale (les dialectes résulteraient d’apprentissages à fonction sociale). Les caciques cul-jaune (Cacicus cela) ont été un modèle pionnier pour la mise en évidence de dialectes sociaux. Paradoxalement, chez l’espèce voisine des caciques cul-rouge (Cacicus haemorrhous), les dialectes sont indiqués comme étant absents. Le but de cette étude est de vérifier l’existence de dialectes chez les C. cela, de rechercher leur présence chez les C. haemorrrhous, d’étudier leur distribution spatiale et leur stabilité temporelle, et de tester expérimentalement (chez C. cela) leur perception par les membres de la colonie. L’intégralité de l’étude a été réalisée en Guyane Française sur des colonies de nidification. Les paramètres acoustiques temporels et de fréquence des chants courts produits par les mâles de chaque espèce ont été mesurés au cours de plusieurs années. Des expériences ont été menées, où des chants de différents dialectes ont été diffusés dans les colonies. Nous avons trouvé un chant court similaire à celui de C. cela chez C. haemorrhous. Nous avons confirmé la présence de dialectes de colonies proches chez C. cela et démontré leur présence pour la première fois chez C. haemorrhous. Les dialectes des deux espèces présentent une variation temporelle rapide, avec des dialectes différents chaque année au même endroit (différence plus marquée chez les C. cela). Les C. cela discriminent les dialectes de leur propre colonie des dialectes d'origine lointaine. Ils répondent notamment à ces derniers en produisant la première note de leur chant court. Ces résultats favorisent l’hypothèse d’adaptation sociale pour les dialectes chez ces deux espèces de Cacicus<br>Numerous studies of dialects opened new perspectives on the origin, sustained presence and function of dialects in oscine birds. Three hypotheses have been proposed: the historical model (dialects would be by-products of vocal learning), the racial specialization model (dialects would be due to genetic differences between populations) and the social adaptation model (dialects would result from socially adaptive learning processes). Yellow-rumped caciques (Cacicus cela) have been a pioneer model for evidencing social dialects. Paradoxically, dialects have been indicated as absent in the closely related species red-rumped caciques (Cacicus haemorrhous). This study aims to verify the existence of dialects in C. cela, seek after the presence of dialects in C. haemorrrhous, study their spatial distribution and temporal stability, and test experimentally (in C. cela) their differential perception by colony members. The whole study was performed in French Guyana at nesting colonies. We measured timing and frequency acoustic parameters of short songs produced by males of both species during several years. We conducted experiments at colonies where we played back songs from different dialects. We found a colonial “short song” similar to that of C. cela in C. haemorrhous. We confirmed the presence of neighboring colony dialects in C. cela and we demonstrated their presence for the first time in C. haemorrhous. Dialects in both species show a fast temporal variation, with different dialects every year at the same place (difference more pronounced in C. cela). C. cela birds discriminate the dialects of their own colony from those of far distant origin. They notably answer the latter by voicing the first note of their short song. These results are in favor of the hypothesis of social adaptation for dialects in these two Cacicus species

Abstract:
La vallée de la Durance connaît de profondes transformations. L'aménagement de l'axe de circulation et la construction de l'autoroute A51 suscitent chez les responsables locaux de grands espoirs mais aussi des craintes face à l'ouverture de la région à la concurrence et à l'incertitude de sa poursuite. La reprise démographique a succédé aux vagues d'immigration du siècle dernier et les politiques d'aménagement ont tenté de lutter contre l'enclavement et de remédier, au sein de la Région PACA, aux déséquilibres entre le littoral et cet espace montagnard qui a aussi largement benéficié des programmes européens. Aujourd'hui l'intercommunalité favorise la naissance de projets issus du milieu local et orientés vers le développement durable. Les activités économiques se regroupent le long de la vallée et dans les villes. La concentration des équipements agricoles récents (stockage des fruits, abattoirs) répond surtout à des nécessités techniques et économiques. Les collectivités locales ont mis en place une politique d'accompagnement de l'A51 avec l'équipement de zones d'activités stratégiques qui offrent de meilleures conditions de développement aux entreprises locales et permettent la venue de quelques entreprises extérieures et la création d'emplois. L'activité touristique s'est diffusée sur le territoire à travers l'implantation des domaines skiables et l'engouement pour les activités de nature et le patrimoine. Les bourgs centres organisent ces activités et accueillent les structures de gestion et les équipements récents. L'armature urbaine de la région est constituée de villes petites et moyennes. Le développement de l'habitat, des équipements socioculturels et de la grande distribution, la rénovation des centres anciens ont renforcé leur attractivité mais aussi entraîné l'extension de l'espace urbanisé et des phénomènes de périurbanisation. Les communes ont dû tenir compte des contraintes d'environnement et de l'emprise des nouvelles voies de communication. Cette croissance a renforcé le rôle des villes principales, surtout de Gap, véritable capitale régionale. L'espace durancien malgré son organisation linéaire n'est pas véritablement un axe fonctionnel mais il s'organise autour de quelques filières économiques, de la création d'un réseau de villes et des pays en gestation.

La communication d'un trajet se prête à étudier la relation entre représentation de l'espace et représentation langagière. Nous l'avons examinée en mettant en scène vingt dyades, formées d'un guide et d'un explorateur aveugles, l'un familier et l'autre novice de l'espace, qui peuvent se communiquer des informations complémentaires par téléphone portable. Nos analyses se sont centrées sur ces dialogues à distance, inédits, à même de saisir les représentations dans la dynamique de l'espace et de l'interaction. Elles ont consisté à identifier des compétences critiques qui font la différence pour se comprendre, en partant de deux dyades très contrastées sur l'ensemble du trajet, et à examiner en détail sur quatre épisodes de l'espace, majoritairement critiques pour l'ensemble des dyades, d'où proviennent les malentendus et comment, éventuellement, ils se résolvent. Les phénomènes observés révèlent les complexes décalages entre invariants opératoires et langage, et mettent en lumière la création de ressources pour faire face à des situations problématiques<br>Verbal communication in route-finding is a way to study the relationship between space representation and language representation. We examine it through the interaction of twenty dyads made of blind young people, a guide and an explorer : one of them is familiar of the space and the other is not. They can communicate by cellulars. We analyse the dialogs at distance, in order to catch up the representation expressed in the dynamic of space and interaction. We identify critical competences between two very contrasted couples all over the route, and then we study in detail four critical episodes characterized by misunderstandings and their eventual solvings. Uncertainty, disagreement, and misunderstanding made respective conceptualizations of both partner accessible. The observed phenomena illustrate the complex gap existing between operatory invariants and language and how resources emerge to face problematic situations

La synthèse binaurale est une technique de spatialisation sonore pour casque d'écoute. Elle repose sur l'utilisation de fonctions de transfert relatives à la tête (HRTFs) qui encodent l'espace sonore de manière spécifique à un individu et permettent de positionner une source sonore à un endroit quelconque dans l'espace. La synthèse binaurale a été développée et éprouvée en considérant uniquement la perception auditive. Dans cette thèse, nous confrontons la technique binaurale au contexte particulier des environnements de réalité virtuelle (RV), engageant simultanément d'autres modalités sensorielles. Des effets perceptifs crossmodaux interviennent et peuvent améliorer ou dégrader la sensation de présence recherchée en RV. Nous nous concentrons sur deux aspects perceptifs et technologiques liés à la cohérence spatiale entre les différentes modalités. Premièrement, nous associons la synthèse binaurale avec un rendu visuel stéréoscopique et menons des expériences perceptives sur l’interaction visuo-auditive. Nous montrons que la RV permet d'observer des résultats comparables à ceux obtenus dans des conditions réelles. Puis, nous tirons profit des spécificités de la RV pour utiliser des stimuli plus complexes et varier les conditions d'expérimentation. Deuxièmement, nous explorons une méthode permettant de mieux synthétiser la distance en champ proche avec la technique binaurale. Nous utilisons le formalisme de l’acoustique sphérique pour extrapoler des HRTFs mesurées vers des distances plus proches ou plus éloignées. Nous comparons cette méthode à celles de la littérature et montrons que notre approche fournit des résultats objectifs légèrement meilleurs que ces méthodes<br>Binaural synthesis is a spatialization technique for headphone listening. It relies on the Head Related Transfer Functions (HRTFs) encoding the auditory space in a unique way for each individual and allows to virtually position an auditory source at any location in space. Binaural synthesis was developed and tested only considering the auditory perception. In this thesis, binaural synthesis is used in the context of virtual reality (VR) environments, involving other sensory modalities. Crossmodal perceptual effects arise and may improve or lower the feeling of presence, which is the aim of RV. We focus on two perceptual and technical aspects about the spatial coherence between the different modalities. First, binaural synthesis is associated with a visual stereoscopic rendering and we run perceptual experiments on visuo-auditory interactions. It is shown that VR gives results that are comparable to those obtained in real conditions. Then, we take advantage of the VR characteristics to use more complexe stimuli and vary the experimental conditions. Second, we explore a method to get a better distance synthesis, especially in near-field, with binaural technique. We use spherical acoustics to extrapolate measured HRTFs toward closer and further distances. This method is compared to other methods and is shown to get slightly better objective results

The optoelectronic multiplexing and demultiplexing of data is a common operation on optical communication links, and one that is becoming more important as these links become increasingly prevalent. These operations permit multiple electronic data streams to be combined onto and removed from a single optical link, taking advantage of the high link-bandwidth available. Demultiplexing places particularly stringent demands on optoelectronic components. In this paper, we describe a method for demultiplexing optical data that utilizes clocked-optical receivers. This method permits the extraction of signals without the need for optoelectronic circuits operating at the full multiplexed-data rate, provided synchronization and timing information are available.

Normal incidence electro-optic spatial light modulators are desirable for applications in computing and communications. Ideally, such devices should be capable of high speed operation, have a large dynamic range, and accommodate broad spectral bandwidths. They should also be insensitive to small ambient and device temperature fluctuations and should be integrable with detector and control electronics. To date, most research on semiconductor modulators has focused on amplitude modulation and has relied on the quantum-confined-Stark effect (QCSE) to produce the required change in absorption. However, limitations on the number of quantum wells that realistically can be incorporated into multiple quantum well (MQW) amplitude modulators prevents the contrast ratio from exceeding ~10:1 (and more typically it is ~4:1). In addition, QCSE modulators with a narrow optical bandwidth inherently have a narrow operating temperature range.1

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) construction projects have multiple stakeholders that collaborate with project delivery team members during the execution of these projects. Many of these stakeholders are located across the U.S., which makes virtual interactions a common communication method for these teams. These interactions often lack spatial visualization, which can add complications to the progress reports provided and how the information is received/interpreted. The visualization of project progress and documents would be invaluable to the stakeholders on critical projects constructed by the USACE. This research was conducted to determine alternatives for migrating Resident Management System (RMS) data into a portal web viewer. This report provides proposed solutions to creating these links in efforts to better harmonize data management and improve project presentation.

Even before the corona pandemic broke out in 2020, the role of digitalisation became more and more apparent within Knowledge and Technology Transfer (KTT) processes. Since the pandemic,intermediary organisations that bridge the distance between academia and the world of business to pave the way for successful university-industry linkages have not primarily been able to build on face-to-face-encounters to create those relations. Based on an ongoing research project, this paper examines how digitally mediated communications potentially enhance or limit knowledge and technology transfer that is primarily based on face-to-face interactions.On the one hand, the use of digitally mediated communications seem to foster the spatial expansion of networks, save travel times and costs and foster a special form of social inclusion. University-industry-relations, on the other hand,still rely on a positive evaluation of face-to-face contacts and geographical proximity for trust to develop between heterogeneous partners. Here, actors with bridging functions like transfer scouts are vital in enabling a regular communicative exchange to create commitment, social cohesion and cooperation in digital contexts. Although the relevance of digitalised transfer processes has been increasing over time, an important set of activities, involving face-to-face contacts and co-location, currently still plays a major role for transfer intermediaries in university-industry-relations.

The article dwells upon the Earth remote sensing data as one of the basic directions of Geo-Information Science, a unique source of information on processes and phenomena occurring in almost all spheres of the Earth geographic shell (atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, etc.). The authors argue that the use of aerospace images by means of the information and communication technologies involvement in the learning process allows not only to increase the information context value of learning, but also contributes to the formation of students’ cognitive interest in such disciplines as geography, biology, history, physics, computer science, etc. It has been grounded that remote sensing data form students’ spatial, temporal and qualitative concepts, sensory support for the perception, knowledge and explanation of the specifics of objects and phenomena of geographical reality, which, in its turn, provides an increase in the level of educational achievements. The techniques of aerospace images application into the modern school practice have been analyzed and illustrated in the examples: from using them as visual aids, to realization of practical and research orientation of training on the basis of remote sensing data. Particular attention is paid to the practical component of the Earth remote sensing implementation into the modern school practice with the help of information and communication technologies.
