Abstract:
Abstract. Anthropogenic influences on earth system processes are now pervasive, resulting in trends in river discharge, pollution levels, ocean levels, precipitation, temperature, wind, landslides, bird and plant populations and a myriad of other important natural hazards relating to earth system state variables. Thousands of trend detection studies have been published which report the statistical significance of observed trends. Unfortunately, such studies only concentrate on the null hypothesis of "no trend". Little or no attention is given to the power of such statistical trend tests, which would quantify the likelihood that we might ignore a trend if it really existed. The probability of missing the trend if it exists, known as the type II error, informs us about the likelihood of whether or not society is prepared to accommodate and respond to such trends. We describe how the power or probability of detecting a trend if it exists, depends critically on our ability to develop improved multivariate deterministic and statistical methods for predicting future trends in earth system processes. Several other research and policy implications for improving our understanding of trend detection and our societal response to those trends are discussed.

Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing 2018 (March 11, 2018): 1–39. http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2018/9026847.

Full text
Abstract:
Intrabody communication (IBC) is a wireless communication technology using the human body to develop body area networks (BANs) for remote and ubiquitous monitoring. IBC uses living tissues as a transmission medium, achieving power-saving and miniaturized transceivers, making communications more robust against external interference and attacks on the privacy of transmitted data. Due to these advantages, IBC has been included as a third physical layer in the IEEE 802.15.6 standard for wireless body area networks (WBANs) designated as Human Body Communication (HBC). Further research is needed to compare both methods depending on the characteristics of IBC application. Challenges remain for an optimal deployment of IBC technology, such as the effect of long-term use in the human body, communication optimization through more realistic models, the influence of both anthropometric characteristics and the subject’s movement on the transmission performance, standardization of communications, and development of small-size and energy-efficient prototypes with increased data rate. The purpose of this work is to provide an in-depth overview of recent advances and future challenges in human body/intrabody communication for wireless communications and mobile computing.

Abstract:
Along with the decrease of administrative influences, the effective functioning of contemporary public administration needs the support and partnership of society. The necessity to consider the reaction of society obliges to inform and to create public understanding on decisions made by the public administration, as well as to ensure an opportunity for individuals to get involved in the decision making process. Thus, the role of communication in public administration performance increases. The regulation of the state needs increasingly greater public acceptance and approval both by responding to the public’s position and wishes and by creating common values and standards that are often achieved by the communication process. In order to understand the role of communications in public administration processes, the author has studied the development of the public administration communication during several state reform stages in Latvia. Using qualitative research methods – interviews, document analysis and comparative analysis and quantitative content analysis –, the trends and challenges in the development of Latvian public administration communication were identified. It is possible to stress two important changes – firstly, the goal of public communications is not just to increase the awareness of the public, but also to involve the public in the state’s development, and secondly, the transformation of communication changes the methods and the way of public administration communication.

The paper highlights the trends of political communications (PC) that have arisen in Hungary after the collapse of communist regime (1989). The authors have identified four main trends in the field of PC: fragmentation, the multiplication of PC channels and means, endless amount of PC arenas, Internet, Web 2.0, fragmentation of content, amateurism in PC; post-objectivity, the end of the requirement of unbiased and balanced coverage, more emphasis on the rise of opinion, on media as community focal point rather than window to the objective reality; the performative turn, the representation of self, a strong focus on act, dramaturgy, and aesthetics in PC; and popularization, the convergence of popular culture and politics, fan democracy, entertaining politics, involvement of citizens, etc.

Health communication is a branch of communication studies that deals with the communication patterns and practices adopted in health education discourses. All forms of communicationare oriented towards promoting information related to health falls under the domain of Health Communication. In this context, the present study attempts to assess existing trends of the health communication in India with special reference to research done in rural India. It highlights views on how health communication can be more effective if it is provided with appropriate resources. It deliberates on few possibilities that can be explored to make it more effective in future, especially in the era of Information Communication and Technology. It highlights many significant ruptures in research in the contemporary scenario, especially with respect to India and argues for some highly significant and interesting study to analyze how the latest innovations in ICT have influenced the dynamics between the three stakeholders of healthcare.

Abstract:
In modern era the exponential growth in smartphones with better applications need higher efficiency as compare with 4G devices. The data rate and spectrum efficiency is increasing day by day. Although 4G system provided much better services and better latency rate, there is still a gap between people’s requirements and what 4G system is providing. This article gives an overview of key enabling technologies which could be used in future 5G wireless systems. Some of these are Massive MIMO, Device-to-Device (D2D) communications, full duplex technique, millimeter wave communications, Internet of things (IoT) and Cloud RAN. By 2020 more than 9.2 billion devices will be there. And these key technologies will surely change the standards of future generation communication system.

Abstract:
Nowadays, in the context of digital marketing and social media development, with the advantages given by technologies and the vast possibilities of communication among consumers, businesses find the implementation of integrated marketing communication influenced by the Internet as a marketing communication environment where businesses are urged into a customer-centric approach by the consumers’ changing habits of receiving information. This results in an increased role of content marketing, relationship orientation, dialogue and network communication, management of multiple stakeholders etc., which envisages consumer involvement with a view to mitigating the consequences caused by the obstacles to marketing communication – loss of control over corporate communication and being adversely affected by invisible communication. Aim of the research was to study and assess integrated marketing communications in the context of digital marketing and its influence upon buyers’ buying decisions. The object of the research is integrated marketing communications. The subject of the research is the influence of integrated marketing communication upon buyers’ buying decisions. The research makes use of the results of studies conducted by the author in 2017 and 2018. There was a survey of leading marketing specialists of Latvian food retail chains and a survey of randomly selected buyers with a sample of 1,003 respondents to find out the influence of integrated marketing communications upon the buyers’ buying decisions. The research brings conclusions regarding the consumption habits of different generations and other factors influencing buying decisions. The research confirmed the hypothesis that integrated marketing communications in the context of digital marketing is a relatively little used type of communication in the marketing communication strategy of businesses, yet its use facilitates consumer loyalty. The results of the research are of both theoretical and practical value.

Abstract:
The paper deals with discourse development tendencies determined by social, economic, cultural and historic characteristics of our present existence, on the one hand, and modern technologies of distant communication, on the other hand. The material analyzed comprises texts taken from network and media discourse as presented in the Internet and Russian contemporary oral and written speech card-catalogue compiled by the authors. The model of our study includes four components of a communicative situation: subjects, texts, chronotops and organizational characteristics. We argue that modern discourse is characterized by the following properties of its participants: expansion of self-presentation, juvenile manner of communication, critical attitude to information, communicative over-saturation. Semiotic properties of modern discourse characterize the texts used in various types of communicative interaction, they include significant growth of multimodal content in all the types of written communication (it corresponds to predominant usage of visual information transmitted by electronic media), vulgarization of speech, and oral and written texts diffusion in distant communication. Chronotopic properties of oral discourse consist in the communicative compression of messages we exchange, in acceleration of our life and shrinkage of communicative turns, and in new demands to everyday habitual existence which makes it a vital necessity to have the access to the Internet in every home. Organizational properties of modern communicative practice may be defined as emerging of inter-discursive hybrid types of communication concerning media and network discourse, diffusion and merging of personal and institutional and private and public communication, and formation of new rituals which are mostly realized in gestures or clips.
