Full textThe history of communism is the history of a process of dogmatic crystallization. This means mainly that, beyond its acceptance or denial by any community whatsoever, dogma has a certain epistemological structure. Generally speaking this dogmatic crystallization belongs to history as a whole; only the peoples who defend their dogma are able to affirm themselves. Man has a profoundly dogmatic constitution that may be designated by the notion of "style" or "stylistic matrix". It is convenient to put parallel this notion with the table of Kantian categories, in this way Kant’s famous antinomies could be passed; as man does not find his purpose in nature, one cannot conclude that he finds it in himself. We analyze some aspects of man's attempt to find a purpose in himself through the "utopian spirit and the communist spirit". When facing this attempt, reality seems to be in a state of rebellion, perspective that brings new light to the classical concepts of communism: proletariat, proletarian messianism, revolution, etc. Since it conceives of concrete as rebellions, communism cannot help leading to a new religions attempt. One cannot nevertheless say that it is a religion, although it evolved from an initial "egolatry" to the idolatry of the "personality cult". The possibility of a "communist religion" cannot be excluded in the future. Dogmatic reinforcement and certain displacements of the sacred prove that communism is well engaged in this way. On one hand it has all the chances to subject mankind and, on the other hand, if man cannot become a new man he can, in exchange, rejoin animality. Man's advent (Marx) becomes his annihilation; revolution proves to be an ontological impossibility. Whatever it does, animal remains the same. Man is the only being who can miss himself. We intend to continue this study with the analysis of the communist state, economy, democracy and culture

Full textThis thesis reconstructs the development of relations among the Communist regime, the Church, and the Catholic laity in Hungary, from the arrival of the Red Army at the end of 1944 through the signing of the Partial Agreement between the Holy See and the Hungarian government on 15 September 1964. The thesis takes as its task the reconstruction of a process under whose auspices Communist domination was deeply internalized, as much by members of the clergy as by the faithful themselves. It seeks also to understand the manner in which that domination was able to shape the development of ecclesiastical and religious life. Finally, it aims to reconstruct the political dynamics that brought about this bid for domination and the manner in which that bid was subsequently transformed, particularly following the shock of the Revolution of 1956. The thesis is based on a large body of unpublished and published sources, hailing from the Party-State apparatus (political police, Office of Ecclesiastical Affairs, the Party agit-prop department) as well as the Church (collections of the Episcopate, religious orders, and parishes), supplemented by oral history testimony gathered both before and after the fall of the Communist regime

Full textThe study, «The diplomacy of ‘small steps'. The Vatican's Ostpolitik of monsignor August CASAROLI (1965-1975)» seeks to develop, through the history of the work of Piacenza prelate, August CASAROLI between 1965 and 1975, the historical reasons that led the Holy See (under the direction of Pope Paul VI) to undertake negotiations with the socialist states of Eastern Europe and select a ‘politics of the dialogue'. CASAROLI is the representative of Vatican diplomacy that lies at the centre of the European and international scene during those years (1965-1975), both bilaterally and multilaterally (with the participation of Bishop CASAROLI himself – as a delegate of the Holy See – the Helsinki Conference of 1975). Papers of ‘Archives CASAROLI' used to carry out the thesis highlights little-known aspects of the work of the Piacenza prelate. It is a representation of the facts very important because it demonstrated the strength of the Vatican's Ostpolitik and perseverance of CASAROLI negotiator during contacts with representatives of the local church and government of socialist states beyond the curtain of iron. Reading the work, it is possible to understand the great merit of the negotiator for the Holy Seat as a running material of ‘politics of the dialogue' of Pope Paul VI during the post-council period between 1965 and 1975: back up with hard work mediation through a long tortuous path within the limits of things possible, the interests of the Catholic Church and contribute to building a common European home

Full textThe subject of my thesis bears on the relations between the Church and the State in Poland from the monopole beginning of the Second World War until the breakdown of 1989. It is centered on the liberating words of John Paul II. One aspect of this destruction process of the communist dictatorship, introduced and imposed by the sovietic political power in Poland, has been the influence of the Church and in particular that of the Primate of Poland, Stefan Wyszyński and of the Archbishop of Cracovia, Karol Wojtyła. The latter's visits, once he became Pope, in 1979, 1983 and 1987, are set as a triple carrier of freedom ( on an individual scale), of relieving the burden of totalitarism ( on a social scale) and of the sovietic grip (on a national scale) Wojtyła, once he became John Paul II, operated thanks to a Word which produced a sensitiv effect and exerted a real, moral and intellectual, influence on the people. For this work, I examined the concept of «performative Word» ( that is to say a Word which has the strength to act by itself), used by Wojtyła, and of its impact on the individual, on society, on the nation at large
