Abstract:
This paper aims to identify the importance of primary commodities in Brazil's foreign trade and define the commodity groups in whose exports Brazil has the highest comparative advantages. At the same time, we want to find out how these comparative advantages have changed and developed in the period from 2001 to 2020, i.e., in the period of high prices of primary commodities (2003 – 2012) and the period after until the outbreak of the global pandemic COVID-19. To achieve this goal, we used the Lafay index of international specialization using data at the four-digit level of the Harmonised Syste

Abstract Hospitalizations for ambulatory care sensitive conditions have been used to measure access, quality and performance of the primary health care delivery system, as timely and adequate care could potentially avoid the need of hospitalization. Comparative research provides the opportunity for cross-country learning process. Brazil and Portugal have reformed their primary health care services in the last years, with similar organizational characteristics. We used hospitalization data of Brazil and Portugal for the year 2015 to compare hospitalizations for ambulatory care sensitive conditi

This paper analyzes campaign finance in a comparative perspective, giving special attention to Brazil and the Unites States. The focus regards the level of regulation on the sources of campaign contributions. Methodologically, the research design adopts a nested approach, combining descriptive and multivariate statistics with deep case studies and documental analysis. Additionally, we replicate data from the Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) to estimate a standardized measure of regulation. The results suggest that most countries show low levels of control over the source
