Abstract:
Export is one source of foreign exchange earnings for the country. This study analyzes the competitiveness of Indonesian nutmeg in the world market. Measurement of competitiveness was conducted by looking at the comparative and competitive advantages nutmeg products in each of the main markets for export and comparison with competitors. The analytical method uses Revealed Comparative Advance (RCA) and Export Product Dynamic (EPD) in the period 2014-2018. The competitiveness analysis results show that nutmeg and nutmeg powder products have competitiveness in all export destination markets. Competitor countries, namely India, do not have competitiveness in the Dutch and Japanese markets. The nutmeg commodity has a competitive advantage with the trend and the share of exports that are still growing (fast-growing). However, nutmeg powder is no longer competitive in the export destination market. Active efforts to find new markets through market diversification while maintaining existing markets can be an option to increase Indonesian nutmeg exports.

As China’s economic development enters a new stage, the government demands the enterprises with high energy consumption and high pollution to save energy and reduce emission. Although the improvement and promotion of the emission trading institutions between enterprises has been proved to be an effective way to control pollution, but only the emission trading theoretical research and practical support can promote China’s environmental protection work in a long term. Using the method of experimental economics with the same market structure, this paper compares and analyzes the features of deal price, transaction volume and market efficiency of enterprises under several different transaction mechanisms, such as double auction, bid auction and offer auction, and provides some reference opinions for the current emission trading market.

Abstract:
Multi-criterion valuation methods are widely used in real estate valuation all over the world. In USA, UK and other countries these methods are part of techniques based on comparative and reinstatement values as well as on income use [1]. A number of problems in the valuation of real property can be eliminated by the methods of multiple criteria analysis, which came into existence only at the second half of the 20th century. Currently, they have become very important in the international practice of the real property valuation. In most cases they are based on market modelling and economic assumptions. Therefore, sometimes they are referred to as separate valuation methods, and classified as modern ones. This article describes a new method of multiple criteria analysis. This method based on the market analysis and valuation principle is in line with the traditional comparative value method, therefore it can be attributed to the group of the indirect comparative value methods. These methods facilitate the universal and more extensive multiple criteria analysis of the property, since they take account of a number of different criteria, ie qualitative, quantitative ones, market conditions. The proposed method can meet the demands and needs of many interested groups since it enables to estimate not only the market value of the property, but also other values, eg investment value, value of use, market value of the current use of the property, etc. This article analyses the theoretical model of the method, which was used to estimate the market value of the recreation premises.

Abstract:
Stock market is alternative place to bank lending for company’s finance and contributor to economic development. Baltic States is market, which traditionally is perceived as one, however it is comprised of 3 separate stock markets. Research aim was to conduct comparative analysis of stock market development performance post-recession in the Baltic States.. In order to perform analysis, number of listed companies, their market capitalization and structure in Baltic States were analyzed and also compared to main economic indicators structure in 2008-2018 6 months. The main research methods are: analysis, synthesis, the logical construction method, the induction and deduction methods, as well as time series analysis. Authors have determined main stock market performance indicators and compared stock market indicators structure with Baltic region’s economic structure. Research results indicates that number of listed companies had increased only in Estonia, also market capitalization there had experienced their value to more than double in analyzed period. In Lithuania number of companies had declined, while market capitalization the growth was slower when compared to in Estonia, while more linear. In turn, stock market capitalization and number of listed companies in Latvia were declining in 2008-2018 6 months. Overall number of listed companies in Baltic States was decreasing, while their market capitalization is increasing, but still is only 60% of value it was in pre-recession year 2007. In Estonia and in Lithuania average listed companies are larger in size, when compared to in Latvia. Size of average listed companies on stock market in Estonia and in Lithuania more than doubled in size, while in Latvia it showed insignificant growth. Stock market indicators’ structure had insignificant deviations from the main economic indicator structure in 2008, while in 6 months 2018 dynamics in Latvia stock market parameters had dropped in the structure among all 3 Baltic States. Overall, in Latvia stock market is lagging behind, when compared to one in Estonia and in Lithuania in analyzed period, thus all 3 Baltic States has had asymmetrical recovery and development speed post-recession.

Abstract:
The study aims to conduct a comparative analysis of the legal regulation of the use of artificial intelligence in the financial services market. The research was carried out based on empirical methods of comparison, description, interpretation, and theoretical methods of formal and dialectical logic. Particular scientific methods were used: legal-dogmatic and the method of interpreting legal norms. The financial services market is currently expanding access to finance. At the same time, the normative legal regulation of artificial intelligence technology (hereinafter referred to as AI) in the financial sector is rather fragmentary and declarative. The position is expressed that artificial intelligence in the financial services market can lead to systemic risks and the manipulation of such a market on trading platforms. It is argued that the development of artificial intelligence should adhere to regulatory goals related to market security, consumer protection, and market integrity. The authors highlight regulatory objectives and possible regulatory methods for peer-to-peer platforms that ensure equality and fair access to financial instruments. The results of the work were the justification for the need to use robotic consultants in the field of investment activities to provide consumers with access to financial services markets. It is shown that the current legal regime does not provide adequate protection for consumers of financial services in this regard. At the same time, the authors believe that artificial intelligence can be used as a form of RegTech (regulatory technology) to optimize compliance processes, thereby increasing competition in financial markets and benefiting consumers. However, such use may be contrary to the principles of confidentiality, data protection, and ethical considerations. The novelty of the work lies in the proposed basic guidelines for the development of detailed regulators for the certification of algorithms and digital platforms, for enhancing ex-ante and ex-post protection of individuals using robotic consultants, and for addressing the question of how individual rights such as privacy rights and data rights can be exercised.

By way of a response to commentaries on the paper, ‘Economic geography: Island life’ (Peck, 2012), three themes are briefly considered – concerning metaphor, markets, and method. Attention to ‘missing’ markets should not be seen as an invitation to market-centricity, but instead to explorations of ‘real’ and heterogeneous markets in a range of instituted contexts, positioned relationally among their others (that is, in relation both to other markets and other non-market forms of economic organization). This will call for creative methodological strategies, including a more explicit embrace of comparative approaches.

Abstract:
The comparative method lies at the heart of social science research. In the field of international business it is national and regional diversity, the differences between places that influence business activities and management behaviour, that matter. This diversity demands adaptability in individuals and organizations, in response to cultural, social, political, institutional, environmental, economic, industrial, and market variety. This article examines the problems of comparative international research (CIR) in business and management studies. The literature on CIR methods over the past thirty years, whilst stressing the importance of robust methodologies, has been particularly critical of the widespread failure of researchers to avoid the pitfalls of poorly constructed cross-national comparisons.

Abstract:
This chapter considers the history of comparative law. The birth of comparative law as a discipline can be traced back to the year 1900, when the Congrès International de Droit Comparé in Paris raised it above the level of singular, disparate, albeit remarkable studies and treatises to a collective, concerted venture guided by theories, methods, and projects. Before 1900 there was little interest in systematic legal comparison. Comparative law was marked, in the Western comparative community, by a significant inferiority syndrome. Comparatists felt neither adequately recognized by their academic peers nor sufficiently represented in the law school curriculum. Today, the (changing) reality of curricular marginality and comparative law’s growing popularity appears to nourish the hope for the well-deserved invitation to the field of the legal sciences.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the processes that make up the European Union’s common agricultural policy (CAP), with particular emphasis on how the Community method functions in agriculture and how it upheld for decades the walls of fortress CAP. Today’s CAP bears little resemblance to the system of the 1960s, except for comparatively high tariff protection. The controversial device of price support has largely been replaced by direct payments to producers. The chapter first provides an overview of the origins of CAP before discussing two variants of the Community method in agriculture: hegemonic intergovernmentalism and competitive intergovernmentalism. It argues that the challenge for CAP regulators today is not to prevent a hypothetical comeback to the price-support system or generalized market intervention, but to prevent the fragmentation of the single market through a muddled implementation of greening and the consolidation of uneven regimes of support among member states.

This chapter introduces the broad changes in the global politics of intellectual property that marked the late 1900s and early 2000s, and a coalitional argument for understanding cross-national and longitudinal diversity in response to the new external environment. The chapter situates the book’s analysis in the context of broader scholarship in comparative and international political economy, highlighting the importance of coalitions for understanding national forms of compliance to global changes. The chapter reviews scholarship on the politics of intellectual property, with an eye toward integrating international and domestic drivers of national policies. The chapter concludes with discussion of the logic of case selection, the method of data collection and comparative analysis, and the organization of the remainder of the book.

Abstract:
AbstractThe title of this chapter refers to how current developments in technology are not just one further innovation of the industrial era, but will lead to decisive changes in production methods, markets, labour, consumption and, to a considerable extent, personal and social relationships. But these changes will be happening within the economic and political framework of the period prior to digitalisation and will persist in the globalisation of the economy. These pages will focus on what we believe to be key issues: changes to business and work, changes to the education and training of people in general and the active population in particular, and certain activities that will have a profound effect on the way we communicate and relate to each other. No technological innovation, not even this one, exists and acts in isolation from the socio-political framework. Therefore, it is also important to analyse the policies and strategies that might lead the digital economy in one direction or another, towards an increase in inequality or in welfare. Going further, what our analysis does not cover is how the digital revolution could be of great help to curb the climate crisis, with changes in energy production, mobility, construction and protection of the environment, provided there is political will and consequent action.

Abstract:
Since the latter half of the 1990s, various policy methods to replace government regulations have been studied in Western countries. Among the trends, in recent years, international organizations such as the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the European Commission (EC), and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) have considered introducing behavioral public policy as a new policy method, substituting for governmental regulation. This article reviews the status of behavioral public policy being introduced in each international organization. Furthermore, we compare and verify the stages of behavioral public policy in terms of consumer protection policy in each international organization in the telecommunications market, based on a literature review.

Abstract:
In this chapter, the VaR of the MSCI emerging market index (MSCI-EMI) developed by Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) is estimated using linear, nonlinear time series and ANN. In this context, the aim of the study is to estimate the VaR exceedance of the MSCI-EMI as a global financial risk indicator compared with traditional time series methods and ANN. In addition, the most effective method on this index is determined by statistical information criteria, and the comparative evaluation of the model selection criteria is carried out. The period of analysis is between December 1987-April 2020 with monthly frequency and VaR exceedance obtained with ARMA-GARCH, TGARCH, EGARCH, GJR, and ANN models. Confidence levels of models, VaR exceedance, and Kupeic statistics are obtained. VaR exceedances are examined through the superior model.

Abstract:
Operating gas turbines at higher firing temperatures has been shown to be more thermally efficient with more power obtained from relatively less fuel. There is, however, an associated slight increase in operating and maintenance costs at higher power settings. This paper studies the relationship between gas turbine power setting, the hot gas-path components’ life consumption, operating and maintenance cost and how these parameters can affect the cost of electricity. A 165 MW gas turbine power plant is modelled and investigated with a comparative turbine blade lifing model that performs stress and thermal analysis, and creep life estimation using the parametric Larson Miller method. The outcomes of this analysis are then linked to an economic model to calculate the cost of generating electricity. The results shows that the optimum cost of electricity does not coincide with the lowest TET or power setting as would be expected when taking into account the creep life of the blade. This is because although lower TET results in improved component life, it will also result in lower thermal efficiency which is found to have a more significant impact on the overall electricity cost. In other words, the cost of electricity will increase at low TETs due to reduced thermal efficiency. On the other hand the cost of electricity will also increase at high TETs due to reduced turbine blade life that leads to increase in maintenance cost.

Abstract:
Still limited to knowledge about the actual phenomena so far, the comparative method has been used to assess the design load and the strength of cargo containment system for target ship designs. In the comparative approach, the sloshing load and strength of a conventional sized LNG carrier are compared with the load and strength for target LNG vessels. A 138,000 m3 LNG carrier with 4 cargo tanks is used as a reference vessel in the comparative approach according to the market practice. Recently, a Joint Development Project (JDP) on the formal assessment of the reference design sloshing load has been undertaken with four major Classification Societies using the sloshing test facility (21). During the JDP period, a “common” test procedure to make a reference load was developed. After a detailed investigation of the test data obtained using the developed procedure, the reference load was derived. The reference load will be used for the safety assessment of the NO96 containment system for DSME’s future LNG carriers or LNG related offshore floating vessels. This paper describes the test procedure and some investigated results.

Abstract:
This paper presents a method for comparative life cycle assessment (LCA) of two distinctively different systems based on industrial heavy-duty off-road equipment. The study demonstrates how to compare the environmental impact performance of two different machines when they perform the same types of operations, but have different levels of operational productivity. Considering the entire life cycle of a machine from material extraction to end-of-life treatment, the two machines are analyzed and compared in terms of their life cycle impact score. To make a fair comparison between the two machines, the impact generated by the same amount of production is used as the basis for comparison. The results of the study can quantify the relative life cycle impact across different machine architectures for design and market support purposes.

Abstract:
The Soviet legal system did not assume any division of law into private and public constituents since communist ideology did not recognise anything private as such. The end of the communist experiment and Russia’s transition to democracy, a state governed by the rule of law, a social market economy and respect for human rights logically led to the need to revive private law and its further development, and therefore the idea of dividing law into private law and public law became relevant in legal doctrine. The article contains a brief comparative analysis of Russian and French legal theories in terms of the concerned problem. The methods used are comparative law, legal hermeneutics, the formal legal method and certain elements of cultural and historical analysis. Despite the conventionality of the public-private law dichotomy, its theory is based upon the actual legal reality of the Romano-German family of legal systems; this theory is not just an abstract theorisation, but is feasible. Unlike the French theory, Russian jurisprudence applies an approach suggested by S.S. Alexeev, who points to the conceptual rather than classification-based nature of the dichotomy in the first place, stressing that private law expresses the most important essence of law as a whole and the new trend in its develop ment is to include human rights. Based on this analysis, it is concluded that human rights are the common part that unites public and private law, and therefore their unity is inseparable: prejudice to human rights, as the experience of building communism in Russia (and in other communist countries) showed, inevitably leads first to the destruction of private law, and then to the transformation of public law into a pseudo-legal system.

Abstract:
The aim of this article is the comparative description of two real estate markets based on the procedures for real property valuation. The study concerned only the land, which was undeveloped, intended for single-family housing in two communes located in the district of Krakow and three communes from the district of Kielce. The analyses were performed at four-year intervals and the comparison of the real estate markets was conducted. The first part contains the description of the areas covered by the research studies and the analyses of the real estate market and market trends. The next stage includes the descriptions of the two test real properties which are the subject of valuation and the fundamental comparative criterion. Then, the algorithms and methods of the calculations are presented. The practical part contains the description of individual markets, the implementation of the analyses and calculations, the comparison of the study areas and conclusions. The comparative analysis of the performed simulations of valuations was carried out first and then followed by a collective summary of descriptive statistics of all the real estate bases and the comparative description of the structures of the databases showing meaningful differences between Krakow and Kielce region.

Full text
Abstract:
There is an increasing demand for investments based on religious basics since these ethical investments mean much more stable financial chances. The economic and financial risk of a fragmented reserve banking system has become obvious by the failure of the neoliberal market economy. Therefore, world economy has to reform the entire credit and bank system that could only be achieved by alternative methods. The Islamic bank is a particularly young alternative opportunity that is based on more equitable and moral principles. However, bringing back the Christian-based banking system that looks back on old traditions and that became extinct could also be an alternative. One of the major principles of the Christian-based banking system is that it is not allowed to borrow and invest in worthless bonds without provision. For the Islamic bank, for instance, speculative affairs that are of high risk and monetary derivates are forbidden, there is voluntary risk management. Risk management and risk-sharing practices based on alternative religious principles will also be analyzed. Due to its procyclic-anticyclic characteristics, the traditional bank system deepens the crisis while the religious bank systems are against the crisis by alleviating the burdens of the debtor. The authors describe and analyze crisis management solutions with a sort of comparative method.

Koevski, Goran, Borka Tushevska Gavrilovikj, and Darko Spasevki. "THE CONCEPT OF LENIENCY IN REPUBLIC OF NORTH MACEDONIA." In International Jean Monnet Module Conference of EU and Comparative Competition Law Issues "Competition Law (in Pandemic Times): Challenges and Reforms. Faculty of Law, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.25234/eclic/18814.

Full text
Abstract:
The concept of "leniency" in competition law, or better known as the "leniency programme", has proven to be an extremely important instrument in fighting unfair competition. In the Republic of Northern Macedonia (hereinafter RNM), this concept of suppressing or reducing unfair competition, more or less, exists solely as a law conception. Nowadays, when the EU discusses the impact of the global crisis and the Coronavirus pandemic on the level of utilization of ”leniency programme", this concept is still unknown or not a well-known concept for business sector in RNM. The main focus of this article is “leniency programme” in RNM. The key questions that we aim to answer here, are: whether and to what extent this instrument is predicted in Macedonian competition law? Is it predicted only as a law category, or it has practical implications too? Although this research refers to RNM, we strongly believe that a thorough study of “leniency” requires exploration of European conception of “leniency” too. For that purpose, we use relevant EU legislation, as well as practice. Thus, our main goal is to consider the position of RNM towards “leniency” and bring into relation to the Macedonian competition law. We base our hypothetical framework on the assumption that the applicability of “leniency programme” in RNM is at the lowest level. Furthermore, that the undertakings are not interested in applying “leniency”. This situation is partly due to the lack of information, the complexity of the application procedure, as well as other factors that are related not only to the attitude of the executive of undertakings, but more to the general economic circumstances, economic development, the market size of goods and services, etc. Using the analytical-descriptive method, the comparative method, and the method of analysis and synthesis, we’ll elaborate the situation in RNM regarding this issue, and we will present our views considering the questions: whether certain measures should be taken regarding „leniency program“, and what should be done to boost the use of this program in the Macedonian business sector.
