Abstract:
The Indian Life Insurance sector has witnessed a major revamp in 1999 with the establishment of Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) and subsequent entry of Private sector players. These changes are affecting the way service is being delivered. Technology usage, new innovative product introduction and competition are seen as drivers of quality of service being provided to the customers. In this study using SERVQUAL model, we have examined the importance of service based on the 5 dimensions viz, Tangibles, Reliability, Responsiveness, Assurance and Empathy. Using 120 Life Insurance policy holders from 3 Life insurance companies in Agra the study identified that the gaps exist even after 15 years of privatization of this sector. The study indicated that a lot needs to be done for improving customer focus and services activity in the Life Insurance sector. Regular customer surveys with increased sample sizes across the country will enable the Insurance companies to fill the gaps

Abstract:
This research focuses on the customer orientation of insurance brokers, whose activity is regulated by the Law on the mediation of private insurances and reinsurances. The goal is to ascertain whether the intermediation inherent in the insurance broker’s activity, which implies a customer-oriented service, entails a positive behaviour that transcends the immediate environment, reaching society. This study presents a comparative analysis between the insurance brokerage society, characterised by a personalised customer service, and banks’ advisory services on insurance. To this end, the study uses a sample of insurance brokerage firms in Spain. The results presented in this study suggest that the customer values the advisory service provided by the broker. However, for a particular business segment in standardized insurance products and products related to banking assets, customers are more likely to resort to the bank’s services. In addition, the results indicate that the commission percentages applied by the entities operating in the banking insurance channel exceed those perceived by the insurance broker. With all this, intermediation in the development of the insurer’s activity can entail social behaviour that involves customer-orientation and, possibly, social service and environmental performance.

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to examine the efficiencies of United Kingdom life insurance, which is regulated in the NHS with a tax-based funding system. The effectiveness of the Health Insurance System, will provide better health services for the people. Currently, there are still many complaints in the BPJS service system, such as late payments for hospitals and salaries for medical personnel. This study will use the comparative law method, by comparing the BPJS system in Indonesia with the NHS health insurance system in the UK. BPJS uses a monthly fee funding system, the amount of payment are depends on the types of class that BPJS participants has taken. Whereas the NHS only uses a tax-based funding system, where the use of this system can effectively meet all health service needs maximally. Based on the results of research on OECD countries, it is revealed that the tax-based social health insurance program tends to be more progressive and fair. Based on this comparative study, it is important for Indonesia to improve its health insurance system arrangements in order to adapt the tax-based funding system.

Abstract:
Insurance plays a very vital role in the modern world economic system. Because of its role in providing socio-economic prosperity and security to life and property it has been recognized as an essential service throughout the whole world. But one Islamic scholar declare the insurance as unislamic due to the elements of Gharer (uncertainty), Maisir (gambling) and Riba (interest) involved in the operation of insurance contract. According to a saying of the Holy prophet (SM), “which he told to a Bedouin Arab, who left his camel unchained to the will of Allah,” tie the camel and then leave it to the will of Allah.” In another hadith the prophet (SM) advised to help one another in furthering virtue and God consciousness and do not help another in furthering evil and enmity. In view of these hadiths it’s established that concept of insurance does not contradict with shariah. Though the sharia support the insurance but not conventional insurance.

Abstract:
Delivering of quality services to the customers has become an indispensable factor for success and survival in today’s competitive insurance environment. The post-liberalized insurance industry in India has been witnessing a discernible shift from the seller to the buyers’ market. The present study is an endeavor to assess the comparative service quality level of the Government owned and Private Sector Non-life Insurance Companies in the post liberalized environment using SERVQUAL approach. For analyzing the customers’ perception and expectation towards service quality of non-life insurance companies, a modified SERVQUAL type questionnaire relevant to the insurance industry was constructed. An attempt has been made to examine the significant gap between the service quality of government owned and private sector non-life insurance companies by using t-test on the gaps (P-E) on all the items of seven dimensions.

Abstract:

This Master thesis enhances an existing library search system with a new dynamic web interface and introduces the ability to perform remote searches by using Web Services. The remote search functionality also includes the ability to compress SOAP-messages, this functionality is optional. The system is implemented using the Microsoft.NET Framework with Visual Studio C#. A library needs to store information about articles and we have chosen to use a Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere database.

The practical part of this thesis describes the architecture of our implementation and the design process.

The theoretical part is a comparative study between dynamically created web pages and static pages, SOAP-compression versus no compression, SOAP-optimization versus no optimisation and the use of Web Services locally versus local classes.

Njikam, Martha Simo. "Insurance law in England and Cameroon : a comparative study : with special reference to motor vehicle insurance." Thesis, University of Sheffield, 1986. http://etheses.whiterose.ac.uk/1852/.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this research study is to examine the present state of Insurance law in Cameroon with particular reference to motor insurance, bringing out the fact that with the exception of certain areas, there exist two systems of insurance law in Cameroon; one in the English-speaking part and the other in the French-speaking part. This work proposes that this distinction ought not to continue and advocates the unification of insurance laws. For reason of space not all the fundamental principles of insurance law and regulation will be attempted: hence some valuable material cannot be included in this thesis. Motor vehicle insurance was chosen for these reasons. First, it is the most common form of insurance in both English and French-speaking Cameroon. Second, it is, in practical terms, the most important type of liability insurance. It is therefore, of greatest interest and relevance to the Cameroonian public comprising insurance companies, policyholders, victims of accidents and the dependants of victims. This has led the state to intervene in regulating motor vehicle insurance a great deal more than in other branches of insurance. The approach adopted throughout is a comparative one, involving English, French and Cameroonian law. , In order to provide the reader with a background to the existence of the two legal systems in Cameroon, the introductory chapter traces the evolution of law with particular reference to the colonial era. The Reason for Government Regulation of certain aspects of insurance law in the countries involved is then examined (Chapter One). This intervention has been exercised through Government Control of Insurance Concerns (Chapter Two), Compulsory Motor and other Insurances (Chapter Three), the provision of a .Motor Insurance Fund (Chapter Four) and Regulation of Insurance Intermediaries (parts of Chapter Six). In the above areas where the government has intervened there now exists considerable uniformity in insurance law and practice throughout the Republic of Cameroon. However, there are still other aspects of the insurance transaction in which there are no uniform laws (see parts of Chapter Three dealing with the conceptual basis of liability and parts of Chapter Six dealing with Insurance Intermediaries and Disclosure. Further, see Chapters Five, Seven and Eight dealing with the Formation of the Insurance Contract, the Construction of the Insurance Contract and the Settlement Process respectively. Finally, this work concludes with proposals for reforming the present laws based on the material discussed, and in particular, a proposal for a Uniform Insurance Code for Cameroon.

El-Sayed, A. M. "Adult education in Egypt and England : a comparative study." Thesis, University of Hull, 1987. http://hydra.hull.ac.uk/resources/hull:6004.

Full text
Abstract:
Societies in general, and the developed ones in particular, are trying hard to control the use of the new educational means to re-educate adults in accordance with the high speed developments in all fields of life. In developing countries, there is still a tendency to identify adult education with literacy campaigns and other basic education programmes. Therefore, whatever the interest and whatever the country, adult education means education for life in its widest sense. Its main purpose is to give a chance to men and women to increase their actual activity in their societies, their responsibility towards them and their share of knowledge. The Egyptian society is facing the following problem: the necessity of reorganising educational programmes for adults in different specialisations with the aim of modernising their knowledge and giving them new skills to meet the continuous changes in the methods of production. To achieve this, we should review first what the advanced world is doing to know where exactly we are. The aim of this study is to throw light on the experiences of the advanced countries in the field of adult education with the purpose of benefiting from them and applying them in the Egyptian society after processing and assimilating them within the characteristics of the society. The task of this thesis is to compare the experiences and ideas of an advanced country, England, which has a very comprehensive "system" of adult education, with those of a developing country, Egypt, in the hope that the two countries can learn something from each other.

Sinigalias, Pavlos-Ioannis. "Secondary students' understandings of healthy diet : a comparative study in Greece and England." Thesis, University College London (University of London), 2002. http://discovery.ucl.ac.uk/10019098/.

Full text
Abstract:
This study looks at the nutritional literacy of20 Greek and 20 British students who were about to complete higher secondary education. The meaning ofa balanced diet is discussed and a model is proposed according to which a balanced diet aims at the promotion ofthe overall health ofthe individual and not only the prevention of diseases. The various social psychological theories that have been used in surveys and health interventions are reviewed. Nutritional literacy is analysed with regard to four issues: understanding of health, understanding ofa balanced diet, ability to make informed food choices and ability to describe and comment on one's own dietary habits. For the exploration of these issues, an interview was selected as the research instrument because it is resilient and can focus on each subject's views. The schedule ofthe interview was developed through three series ofpilot interviews. The data collected were analysed qualitatively, but some statistical methods were also deployed. Students defined health positively, i.e. in terms ofgood health rather than the avoidance ofill health, and referred mainly to bodily health. They spoke about habits that we must adopt rather than about habits that we must avoid. Diet and exercise were the most often reported health-promoting habits. For most ofthe students, bodily growth and good looks were the aims ofa balanced diet. Some students reported the prevention of cardiovascular diseases through diet, but most ofthem ignored the links between the type ofdiet and cancers ofthe digestive tract. Some students interpreted nutritional information in a way that reflected their own strongly held views about the nature of a balanced diet. Students' views and their ability to plan a balanced diet were characterized by high accuracy but low comprehensiveness. Finally, students were rather selective in the description oftheir own diet. Most ofthem reported that they are more or less committed to a healthy diet. However, they did not identify this commitment as a precaution against ill health.

Abstract:
Educational Leadership
Ed.D.
Every year thousands of college graduates seek employment. In preparing for a career, many students turn to the Office of Career Services for assistance since it is a resource that they can use in their job searches as they navigate through an increasingly tight job market. Despite the obvious importance of Career Services in higher education, not enough is known about how these offices work and how they utilize the various resources available to them in assisting graduates to find employment. The core purpose of the present study is to fill this gap in the literature. This qualitative case study compared the activities of the Office of Career Services at two institutions of higher education (St. Peter and St. Thomas will be the names used throughout this dissertation). While both institutions are Jesuit, they differ in a number of ways that allowed meaningful comparisons about how the staff members in the Office of Career Services responded to the needs of undergraduate students in their employment searches. Data were collected through open-ended, semi-structured interviews of critical members of the staffs of both institutions. The interviews focused on how staff members provide services to their students and alumni as well as to the employers of these alumni. The study attempted to understand the formal and informal processes used by the Office of Career Services at these two universities as a measure of the institutions' organizational culture (Tierney, 1988). In addition, the study examined how the staff of the Office of Career Services develop and maintain connections to the academic community and to local and national businesses. The results of the study indicate that the Career Services staff members at these two universities informed students early in their academic careers of the services afforded them in preparing for their job searches. Both offices are focused on their students, but believe they are under-utilized by the students. St. Peter's has an advantage with employment opportunities for students due to its location. St. Thomas has a stronger relationship with the institution's academic community. The implications of these results for career services in general were discussed.

Abstract:
Purpose – to identify the prerequisites for organizational changes of the emerging health insurance system in Vietnam. Research methodology - comparative analysis, statistical analysis, case study. Findings – the obligatory health insurance in Vietnam performs its functions only partially. There is still high level of out-of-pocket spending on medical services. First we identified one of the most important challenges to the health insurance system in Vietnam, namely, the population aging. Secondly, we identified and analyzed and the prerequisites (the pre-existing conditions), which can become the basis for the reorganization of the existing health insurance system without major reforms: (1) the cultural values of Asian society, which allow to build a community-based type model of living for the elderly on the basis of “equal with equal”; (2) technological advances in medicine that extend the healthy life of the elderly, (3) trust in traditional medicine, which allows widen the coverage of the poorest “elderly households”. Practical implications - the results of the study require attention from the government and insurance providers when rethinking of organizing process for mandatory medical insurance. Originality/Value – we have identified the ways of possible organizational changes for the health insurance system, making the most of the existing prerequisites. This can help to get closer to the goal of full coverage with health insurance services while achieving a positive social effect. The identified internal reserves make it possible to imple- ment organizational changes without major reforms of the established health insurance system. No studies have been conducted in this perspective.

Abstract:
It has been revealed both in the theoretical and the applied studies that the trade of goods in the traditional foreign trade theories reflects the prosperity indicators of the countries such as economic growth and employment positively. In the 1970s, especially with the developments on financial globalization, the foreign trade structure has started to evolve, and the service trade has started to become more and more important or weighted. While the literature on competitiveness is related to the commodity trade, it is noteworthy that there are more limited studies on the results and suggestions of the competition power in service trade. In this study Balassa’s (1965) RCA (Revealed Comparative Advantages) approach was used to determine Turkey's competitive power on service trade. In this context, Turkey has tried to measure competition power against the world in each service sub sector related to the classification of traditional service sector such as tourism and transportation and other service sectors (telecommunication, financial services, insurance etc.) which are defined as modern services sector. It is analyzed with using annual data between 1980 and 2015 obtained from the UNCTAD. According to findings the competitive power in the tourism sector with traditional services is stronger in Turkey. This can be seen generally disadvantageous in the transportation sector, but there has been some increase in competition power since 2009. On the other hand, in the field of other service sectors expressed as modern services, it is concluded that there is no competitive power and it is highly disadvantaged.

Abstract:
Objective. To assess the comparative benefits and harms across three airway management approaches (bag valve mask [BVM], supraglottic airway [SGA], and endotracheal intubation [ETI]) by emergency medical services in the prehospital setting, and how the benefits and harms differ based on patient characteristics, techniques, and devices. Data sources. We searched electronic citation databases (Ovid® MEDLINE®, CINAHL®, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Scopus®) from 1990 to September 2020 and reference lists, and posted a Federal Register notice request for data. Review methods. Review methods followed Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Evidence-based Practice Center Program methods guidance. Using pre-established criteria, studies were selected and dual reviewed, data were abstracted, and studies were evaluated for risk of bias. Meta-analyses using profile-likelihood random effects models were conducted when data were available from studies reporting on similar outcomes, with analyses stratified by study design, emergency type, and age. We qualitatively synthesized results when meta-analysis was not indicated. Strength of evidence (SOE) was assessed for primary outcomes (survival, neurological function, return of spontaneous circulation [ROSC], and successful advanced airway insertion [for SGA and ETI only]). Results. We included 99 studies (22 randomized controlled trials and 77 observational studies) involving 630,397 patients. Overall, we found few differences in primary outcomes when airway management approaches were compared. • For survival, there was moderate SOE for findings of no difference for BVM versus ETI in adult and mixed-age cardiac arrest patients. There was low SOE for no difference in these patients for BVM versus SGA and SGA versus ETI. There was low SOE for all three comparisons in pediatric cardiac arrest patients, and low SOE in adult trauma patients when BVM was compared with ETI. • For neurological function, there was moderate SOE for no difference for BVM compared with ETI in adults with cardiac arrest. There was low SOE for no difference in pediatric cardiac arrest for BVM versus ETI and SGA versus ETI. In adults with cardiac arrest, neurological function was better for BVM and ETI compared with SGA (both low SOE). • ROSC was applicable only in cardiac arrest. For adults, there was low SOE that ROSC was more frequent with SGA compared with ETI, and no difference for BVM versus SGA or BVM versus ETI. In pediatric patients there was low SOE of no difference for BVM versus ETI and SGA versus ETI. • For successful advanced airway insertion, low SOE supported better first-pass success with SGA in adult and pediatric cardiac arrest patients and adult patients in studies that mixed emergency types. Low SOE also supported no difference for first-pass success in adult medical patients. For overall success, there was moderate SOE of no difference for adults with cardiac arrest, medical, and mixed emergency types. • While harms were not always measured or reported, moderate SOE supported all available findings. There were no differences in harms for BVM versus SGA or ETI. When SGA was compared with ETI, there were no differences for aspiration, oral/airway trauma, and regurgitation; SGA was better for multiple insertion attempts; and ETI was better for inadequate ventilation. Conclusions. The most common findings, across emergency types and age groups, were of no differences in primary outcomes when prehospital airway management approaches were compared. As most of the included studies were observational, these findings may reflect study design and methodological limitations. Due to the dynamic nature of the prehospital environment, the results are susceptible to indication and survival biases as well as confounding; however, the current evidence does not favor more invasive airway approaches. No conclusion was supported by high SOE for any comparison and patient group. This supports the need for high-quality randomized controlled trials designed to account for the variability and dynamic nature of prehospital airway management to advance and inform clinical practice as well as emergency medical services education and policy, and to improve patient-centered outcomes.
