The research was conducted in four phases: a systematic review of the published literature from 2008-2012; cross sectional surveys of two cohorts of women during the first and last trimester; and a cross sectional survey of health professionals (midwives, obstetricians, anaesthetists) at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital.
