At the Research Center for Nuclear Physics, Osaka, Japan, the 208Pb(p,p´) reaction was measured at Ep=295 MeV and scattering angles Θlab= 0° - 10°. A high energy resolution of the order of ΔE/E ≈ 8x10^-5 was achieved, corresponding to ΔE=25-30 keV (FWHM). Cross sections were extracted by a multipole decomposition analysis of the angular distributions. Dominant contributions at very forward angles originate from E1 excitation due to Coulomb projectile-target interaction and spin M1 transitions caused by the spin-isospin part of the proton-nucleus interaction. The goal of constructing the 3D configuration space is to determine the boundary representation of the free space where the intersection of the moving set and fixed set is empty. Abstract:
This thesis reports the design, synthesis, optical resolution of polypyridyl metal complexes and their molecular recognition of DNA. These metal complexes have been synthesised to bind DNA intercalation in a sequence selective manner. Modifications have manipulated the intercalative segments to bind to DNA in a rigid fashion by appending chemical groups directly to the aromatic extensions of the fragment. Also the ancillary non-intercalative ligands comprised of either bidentates or tetradentates, have been specifically chosen to deliver appended groups along the DNA sugar phosphate backbone,

Abstract:
The first part of this dissertation covers the microwave spectroscopy of the weakly bound complexes HI-HF, H₂S-SO₂, Ar-H₂S, and N₂O-HF. These molecules were investigated using a Flygare-Balle type pulsed-beam Fabry-Perot Fourier-transform microwave spectrometer. The spectrometer and its construction are described. The HI-HF complex was found to be hydrogen bonded through the hydrogen of the HF. The hydrogen bond length was found to be 2.720A with a structure such that the monomer bonds form an acute angle of 70°. For H₂S-SO₂ a structure with a S-S distance of 3.67A and H-O distances of 3.1A wa
