A suite of biomarkers was developed using the crab Carcinus maenas and the mussel Mytilus edulis as test organisms. We are mapping photopigment density of human retinas to investigate photoreceptor/retinal epithelial function. We compare maps obtained from reflectometry with results from psychophysical techniques that measure photopigment optical density and visual function.
