Concern within the public health community is mounting regarding what some deem as "candy-flavored tobacco". A recent study by King et al. (2014) found that >40% of middle and high school student smokers use flavored cigarettes or flavored little cigars. This study investigated the validity of the "candy-flavored tobacco" designation by comparing flavor profiles of 18 flavored tobacco products with 15 candy and Kool-Aid products using gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Abstract : Complex Trauma (CT) refers to the exposure to chronic or prolonged experiences of maltreatment that often occur in the context of a caregiving relationship. This concept also refers to the numerous sequelae that CT can have on the child’s functioning, including dissociation. Dissociation reflects a continuum of behaviours and processes that range from normative (e.g., daydreaming) to pathological (e.g., amnesia). Validation requires the collection of evidence that supports inferences from an assessment. Think aloud protocols (TAPs) are one method of collecting validity evidence for assessments; however this technique is rarely used in validity investigations of complex thinking. The first research question investigated the use of TAPs as a method of validation for assessments of complex thinking. Specifically, the research explored how TAPs add to validity investigations beyond the information that psychometric analyses provide. TAPs were collected from 35 students using a historical thinking measure.
