AbstractThe 1,1-ethene dithiolato ligands (dithioylidene barbituric acids) 2a-f react with palladium(II) and platinum(II) compounds L2MCI2 [M = Pd, Pt; L = PEt3, PBu3, PPh3, 1/2 dppe, 1/2 (-)-DIOP, 1/2 2,9-dimethyl phenanthroline] to give the 1,1-ethene dithiolato metal complexes . Compound 4a forms a 1:1 adduct (8) with 2,6-diaminopyridine. The compounds were characterised on the basis of their IR and NMR (1H, 13C, 31P) spectra. Complexes 4a, 4c, and 5a were further studied by X-ray structural analysis. The barbituric unit in 4a undergoes self-assembly through multiple hydrogen-bonding with c

AbstractReactions of TlCl3 with picolinic acid (Hpic), nicotinic acid (Hnic), isonicotinic acid (Hinic) and 3-hydroxy-picolinic acid (H3hpic) afford the isolation of new chlorothallium(III) complexes. The compounds are characterized by IR, Raman and multinuclear NMR (1H,13C,205Tl). The molecular structures of [TlCl2(pic)(Hpic)]·0.5H2O (1), [TlCl2(nic)(Hnic)] (2), [TlCl(inic)2]·0.6C2H5OH (3) and [TlCl(3hpic)2(h3hpic)] (4) are determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Although the triple-decker complex [Cp*Fe(µ,η5:η5-P5)Mo(CO)3] (2) was first reported 26 years ago, its reactivity has not yet been explored. Herein, we report a new high-yielding synthesis of 2 and the isolation of its new polymorph (2’). In addition, we study its reactivity towards AgI and CuI ions. The reaction of 2 with Ag[BF4] selectively produces the coordination compound [Ag{Cp*Fe(µ,η5:η5-P5)Mo(CO)3}2][BF4] (3). Its reaction with Ag[TEF] and Cu[TEF] ([TEF]− = [Al{OC(CF3)3}4]−) leads to the selective formation of the complexes [Ag{Cp*Fe(µ,η5:η5-P5)Mo(CO)3}2][TEF] (4) and [Cu{Cp*Fe(µ,η5:η5

Ocimum basilicum L. essential oil and its β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) complex have been investigated with respect to their stability against the degradative action of air/oxygen and temperature. This supramolecular system was obtained by a crystallization method in order to achieve the equilibrium of complexed–uncomplexed volatile compounds in an ethanol/water solution at 50 °C. Both the raw essential oil and its β-CD complex have been subjected to thermal and oxidative degradation conditions in order to evaluate the protective capacity of β-CD. The quantitative double self-sorting between the three-component rectangle [Cu4(1)2(2)2]4+ and the four-component sandwich complex [Cu2(1)(2)(4)]2+ is triggered by inclusion and release of DABCO (4). The fully reversible and clean switching between two multicomponent supramolecular architectures can be monitored by fluorescence changes at the zinc porphyrin sites. The structural changes are accompanied by a huge spatial contraction/expansion of the zinc porphyrin–zinc porphyrin distances that change from 31.2/38.8 Å to 6.6 Å and back. Much attention has been paid by chemists to the construction of supramolecular coordination compounds based on the multifunctional ligand 5-sulfosalicylic acid (H3SSA) due to the structural and biological interest of these compounds. However, no coordination compounds have been reported for the multifunctional amino-substituted sulfobenzoate ligand 2-amino-5-sulfobenzoic acid (H2asba). We expected that H2asba could be a suitable building block for the assembly of supramolecular networks due to its interesting structural characteristics. A new family of fluorescent thiophene and thienothiophene-containing squaraine dyes is described with tunable wavelengths that cover the absorption/emission range of 600–800 nm. The deep-red and near-infrared fluorescent compounds were easily prepared by simple synthesis and purification methods. Spectral studies showed that each squaraine was rapidly encapsulated by a tetralactam macrocycle, with nanomolar affinity in water, to produce a threaded supramolecular complex with high chemical stability, increased fluorescence quantum yield, and decreased fluorescence quenching upon dye self-aggreg
