AbstractHylomorphism is the Aristotelian theory according to which objects are composites of form and matter. Form is what unifies the various parts of an object – the matter – into a cohesive whole. Some contemporary hylomorphists argue their theory applies beyond the realm of concreta, and that it explains the unity of various abstract entities. Not everyone agrees. Recent criticism alleges that hylomorphism fails to explain the unity of certain abstract entities, namely, complex properties – properties with other properties as proper parts. Warm flow compaction based on warm compaction and metal injection molding is a new net-shape manufacturing technology which can produce complex powder metallurgy (PM) parts by conventional axial-pressing. Warm flow compaction makes use of improved flowability of powder binder mixture in an appropriate temperature to form complex PM-parts, like cross-shaped parts. The effect of the combination of coarse and fine powders on apparent density and flowability as well as the effect of different pressing speed and temperature on lateral flow capacity of iron-based powders were investigated. For over 20 years the term"three-dimensional scan"(3D) showed the world the possibilities of virtual design, simulation, or reverse engineering. 3D scanning is also known as 3D digitizing, the name coming from the fact that this is a process that uses a contact or non-contact digitizing probe to capture the objects form and recreate them in a virtual workspace through a very dense network of points (xyz) as a 3D graph representation. Until recently, digitization was limited by the speed of the scan head and the correct choice of the probing system, type of scanned piece and budget for the purc

AbstractThe production rates of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) parts are rising constantly which in turn drives research to bring a higher level of automation to the manufacturing processes of CFRP. Resin transfer molding (RTM), which is seen as a production method for high volumes, has been accelerated to a high degree. However, complex net-shape preforms are necessary for this process, which are widely manually manufactured. To face these challenges a new concept for the manufacturing of carbon fiber preforms with a form-flexible gripping, draping and joining end-effector is presente

The kinetochore provides a physical connection between microtubules and the centromeric regions of chromosomes that is critical for their equitable segregation. The trimeric Mis12 sub-complex of the Drosophila kinetochore binds to the mitotic centromere using CENP-C as a platform. However, knowledge of the precise connections between Mis12 complex components and CENP-C has remained elusive despite the fundamental importance of this part of the cell division machinery. Here, we employ hydrogen–deuterium exchange coupled with mass spectrometry to reveal that Mis12 and Nnf1 form a dimer maintaine

The paper provides also an overview about the accuracy and reproducibility of measuring sensors by usual plastic- and metal parts. The parts will be much more complex in their geometry and the quality requirement are stronger monitored. Thus, the expectations in the manufacturing metrology are set higher.

SUMMARY This article summarizes three academic studies (Brewster 2011; Brewster 2016; Bucaro 2019) that investigate the effects of a specific form of critical thinking, systems-thinking, on audit judgments. Systems-thinking emphasizes taking a holistic “big picture” perspective and understanding how parts of complex processes interact and function. Collectively, the three studies find that systems-thinking can lead to auditors better understanding the risk of material misstatement through improved risk assessment and information processing. A mechanism is an assembly of moving parts interconnected by joints to transfer an input motion to a desired output motion. Traditionally, to generate a complex motion, mechanisms are modeled by selecting and combining a number of mechanical parts with simple shapes such as links, gears, and cams. Combining multiple mechanical parts results in a mechanism with an intricate topology, which not only complicates assembly and maintenance but also deteriorates the functionality of generating motions due to accumulation of manufacturing imprecisions.
