Abstract:
Epidemic modeling has proven to be an essential framework for the study of contagion phenomena in biological, social, and technical systems. Albeit epidemic models have evolved into powerful predictive tools, most assume memoryless agents and independent transmission channels. Nevertheless, many real-life examples are manifestly time-sensitive and show strong correlations. Moreover, recent trends in agent-based modeling support a generalized shift from edge-based descriptions toward node-centric approaches. Complex networks is a vibrant research field and has received much attention over the last decade. Central to this area is the question of how networks around us are constructed. The essential notion of network research is that these systems are assembled in a decentralised way, thus no central agent is planning the network beforehand. Despite this lack of central coordination, many networks present intriguing universalities, such as broad degree distributions, in the form of power-laws. The subject of study in this thesis is a class of networks that are constructed by a node intrinsic variabl

Abstract:
Examples of cooperative behavior in complex networks with inherent or created imperfections are in the focus of study in this thesis. The complex networks represent real world systems where a number of entities cooperate through their interconnections. All entities and their interactions have some unique characteristics that determine the overall dynamics of the system. Therefore, the main topic of the thesis is the study of some of the effects of the uniqueness of the individual entities on the dynamical behavior of real systems, the effects of the neglecting of some physical aspects during m
