The subject of this research is the soils and soil-geochemical catenae in the area of Yeletsky settlement, located in the northeast of the Komi Republic. Catena were deposited on the mound covered with moss-shrub tundra transect from the interfluve of Usa and Yelets Rivers to a lacustrine depression, complicated by arching permafrost mounds. Within the district of research, the authors laid five soil incisions (EL20-P1, EL20-P2, EL20-P3, EL20-P4 and EL20-P5) that formed a soil-geochemical catena along the slope. Each cycle includes a phase of land-surface instability, marked by erosional and depositional imprints, and a phase of stability, marked by pedologic imprints. Genetic mutations that initiate and drive the progression of colorectal cancer cause defects in key signalling pathways that affect cell function. The Wnt signalling pathway is a key pathway that is disrupted in colorectal cancer and β-catenin is the key mediator of Wnt signalling. β-catenin is a multifunctional protein with roles in Wnt signalling and cell adhesion. I aimed to understand the relationship between the main interactions and functions of β-catenin. Specifically, I investigated how a stabilising mutation in β-catenin, decreases in APC, E-cadherin or PTEN altered the interactions o

The study of topologically complex molecules is necessary to better understand the knotted architectures that abound within Nature and are vital in the functioning of DNA and proteins. Metal based template strategies have played a key role in the successful synthesis of a number of interwoven structures constructed from small molecule building blocks, however novel methodology is crucial for the expansion of this fascinating field of chemistry. Abstract:
The roman amphitheatre of Catania stands in a very complex and interesting area where settlement dynamics and transformations have profoundly marked its urban landscape. Over the centuries, the urban and architectural histories together with the formation of the archaeological deposits have led to the complete obliteration of the monument and restricted knowledge of its plan and architectural development. Therefore, it constitutes an interesting context in which to experiment methods and techniques for architectural representation and the three-dimensional reconstruction of the monument.

The existing riser design and analysis methodologies rely on empirically derived parameters to conservatively represent the complex dynamic behavior. With exploration moving to deeper water and the increasing need of existing asset support, there is a strong need to evaluate and refine these methodologies. This is especially true for Steel Catenary Risers (SCR) as they are the most widely used riser type and due to their complex soil-pipe interaction at the touchdown point. Abstract:
Steel Catenary Risers (SCR) are critical dynamic structures with a complex fatigue response. The offshore industry lacks verification of analytical models with full-scale response measurements. Only a small number of installed SCRs have any instrumentation to monitor dynamic response. This paper describes an on-line monitoring system deployed on one of the Tahiti infield (production) SCRs. Tahiti is a Truss Spar Floater located in 4,000 ft water depth in the Gulf of Mexico. The system is configured with localized strain and motion measurement devices. Emphasis is placed on the selection of num

Abstract:
Steel catenary risers (SCRs) in deepwater environment exhibit complex dynamic dynamic response governed by various factors such as environmental conditions, vessel motions, soil-structure interaction and material degradation. Uncertainties in the SCR design exist in the design data, analysis methodologies, fabrication, and hence a conservative approach has been adopted to overcome these shortfalls. Recent advances in monitoring systems installed on SCRs provide operator the assurance of the integrity of the SCRs in service, verify the SCR design, and enhance basic understanding of the SCR resp

Abstract:
Stories around climate change are not easy to tell. They are complex, technical, and develop slowly. In newsrooms where speed is king, accurate and comprehensive reporting on environmental crises often takes a hit. Scientific rigour and accuracy, sensitive representations and consistent reportage on more slow-onset events such as drought and sea-level rise are critical to build public awareness and set the agenda for more ambitious climate policies that cater to the needs of the most vulnerable.
