Acute appendicitis is a common cause of abdominal surgery in children, and is the result of appendiceal luminal obstruction and subsequent inflammation. The clinical presentation is often variable, allowing imaging to play a central role in disease identification and characterization. Ultrasound is often the modality of choice for diagnosis of appendicitis in children. Ready availability and lack of ionizing radiation are attractive features of sonography, though operator dependence is a potential barrier. Abstract:
Anatomical variant of appendix are very rare, but is important to detect variations of localization for an immediate and correct diagnosis, avoiding complications. Such occurrences can mimic other pathologies and ultrasound examination often does not allow to obtain a precise diagnosis. In this case report, Computed Tomography allowed us to diagnose an inflamed appendix originating from the ascending colon, allowing timely and targeted surgery.

A Histological Evaluation of 686 Appendectomies of Simple Appendicitis. International Journal of Surgery, 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.60122/j.ijs.2024.20.02.

Abstract:
Background: Acute appendicitis is one of the most common surgical disease with an estimated lifetime risk of about 6-8%. Non-operative management of appendicitis is gaining popularity worldwide. Appendiceal tumors are rare and confirmed by histopathological examination in 0.5-2.5% of all appendectomies. The risk of missing an appendiceal tumor with a non-operative treatment is not well established. The aim of this study was to assess the incidence of appendiceal neoplasm in patients presented with simple non-perforated appendicitis. Materials and Methods: A retrospective study of all patients,

Abstract:
Review question / Objective: Does implementing enhanced recovery after surgery pathways improve outcomes in adult patients undergoing laparoscopic appendectomy when compared to conventional pathways? Condition being studied: Adult patients (more than 18 years) with acute appendicitis undergoing laparoscopic appendicectomy. Information sources: We will search all electronic databases. In published articles were outcome details appear incomplete, the corresponding author will be contacted the details will be sought. If not available, that outcome will be excluded from analysis.

Review question / Objective: We seek to conduct a meta-analysis of relevant studies to evaluate and compare functional outcomes and complication rates between locked fibula intramedullary nail fixation and plate fixation for treatment of ankle fractures. Condition being studied: Ankle fractures, with an incidence rate of 4.22/10, 000 person-years in the United States, are one of the most common lower extremity fractures. Currently, the standard surgical treatment approaches for unstable ankle fractures involves open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with plates and screws. However, ORIF h

Numerous biomarkers of infection and inammation have been found to inuence the severity of disease. Acute respiratory infection, fever, pneumonia, cough, tiredness, and inammation are frequent clinical ndings during hospitalisation. The severity of the disease and a possibility of disease progression can be determined by circulating biomarkers like TWBC count, NLR and CRP that reect inammation. Background: Patient-prothesis mismatch (PPM) is a serious potential complication following surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR). If it develops, valve-in-valve transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a reasonable therapeutic option. However, there is low evidence on the management of small degenerated surgical bioprosthetic valves, not prone to balloon-valve fracture (BVF). Case Presentation: This case report presents a successful valve-in-valve TAVR in acute heart failure due to degenerative surgical bioprosthetic valve Trifecta (21 mm) that is not susceptible to BVF. Abstract:
Delirium is the leading complication in hospitalized older adults associated with increased mortality, adverse inpatient outcomes, and decreased functionality (McCusker et al., 2003). Delirium is a syndrome with various presentations, it can occur over a brief period, and patients may exhibit hallucinations or violence unpredictably (Tomlinson et al., 2017). Prevalence of delirium varies greatly secondary to patient demographics and comorbidities; the elderly and individuals with multiple chronic disease processes have an increased risk for inpatient delirium (Fuchs et al., 2020).
