Abstract:
Existing electronic devices will quickly become e-waste when encountering technological iterations, which results in serious environmental and public health problems. Previous circular economy research has mainly focused on the development of new products with long life or recycling discarded products. This study firstly proposes the Green-Extension Design (GED) strategy for developing adaptable accessories that provide existing products with the ability to continue to work in a different context. Competitiveness was selected to evaluate the performance of GED, and three competitiveness components were derived through principal component analysis (PCA). Moreover, AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) was applied to define the weights of the three competitiveness components, and a GED model was established on the basis of production function. Furthermore, the calculation method for each competitiveness component was defined. The GED strategy is aimed at extending the life of existing products, as well as reducing resource waste and environmental pollution. The GED model based on competitiveness components can enable enterprises to design products of high competitiveness and obtain market share as a result.

Abstract:
Strengthening competitiveness is an important factor in facing the growth of international trade in commodity markets, especially for maize as feed commodities. This research aims to: (1) analyze the level of profit and competitiveness of maize farming, (2) investigate farming components affecting competitiveness, and (3) analyze sensitivity level of profit and competitiveness towards the changes. Data were processed using PAM (Policy Analysis Matrix) and sensitivity analysis. The research was conducted on March- May 2018 in Pacitan with 102 maize farmers as sample respondents, collected proportionally. Sensitivity analysis observed four changes, i.e; increase of purchase price, the structure of labor, optimization of maize productivity, and weakening of rupiah exchange rate. Research findings indicated that (1) maize farming in Pacitan does not generate either financial or economic profits, as well as competitiveness, as shown by PCR and DRCR accounting for 1,033 and 1,024 respectively; (2) the component influencing competitive advantages is purchase price and component influencing comparative advantages is rupiah exchange rate; components simultaneously influencing both advantages are structure of labor and maize productivity; (3) the sensitivity analysis proves that the changes of profit are elastic towards the changes of four components indicated by elasticity indicator with a value of more than one. The changes of competitiveness are elastic only for purchase price, but for other components they are inelastic.

Abstract:
Purpose. To analyze the impact of the knowledge component on the level of global competitiveness of the world. Methodology. The methodological basis of the article is the methods and forms of scientific knowledge adopted in domestic science, such as system approaches, comparative and synthesis methods, methods of abstract logical evaluation, methods of detailing, groupings and generalizations, experts evaluations; dynamics series, logic analysis, paired and multiple correlation techniques. Moreover, the Google Trends search engine was used, since the use of this search tool allowed drawing the following conclusions: searches for both concepts in the world and in Ukraine are substantially different: both concepts in the global space, particularly in countries with a high level of competitiveness, are hardly in demand. Findings. Knowledge as an economic category and practical skill permeates all spheres of human life. Currently, knowledge formation is concentrated within TNCs localized in the developed countries of the world (the USA, Singapore, the EU countries, Japan, and others), which is confirmed by the level of competitiveness of the economy of these countries and high ranking of the knowledge component in it. In the overall rating of competitiveness of the influence of the components of the knowledge economy, Ukraine ranks below average, while science now barely crosses the threshold of performing a sociocultural function and begins to perform a cognitive one. Originality. Globalization processes and technological revolution of recent decades have transformed knowledge and intellectual capital into key drivers of competitiveness in the world. We have formed and studied groups of subjective (regional and state policy, which determines the quality of economic and financial processes, as well as the management of the public sector) and objective (geographic, natural and climatic conditions, the degree of sufficiency in raw materials, infrastructure, and others) factors affecting competitiveness of countries. According to the research results, the use of this approach allows for continuous monitoring of the competitiveness level of social and economic indicators in order to identify and eliminate bottlenecks in various levels of state management. Practical value. The authors approach suggested is recommended to be used by scientific institutes, universities, government bodies and services for monitoring socio-economic indicators included in the groups of objective and subjective factors in order to form a holistic understanding and systematic analysis of the influence of the competitiveness of the knowledge component on different aspects of the countrys social and economic life.

Abstract:
Historically, airlines and airports considered air cargo as a by-product. However, by looking for additional sources of revenue, airlines and airports became aware of the potential of air cargo. In this study, the competitiveness of European airports with respect to air cargo will be discussed. The relevant characteristics determining the competitiveness of an airport with respect to air cargo are identified by an extensive literature review and by interviews with industry-specialists. These characteristics can be divided into four different components: territory, air cargo marketplace, airport operations and product differentiation. Each component consists of several factors affecting airport competitiveness for cargo. This study can be used by airports to help assessing and enhancing its air cargo strategy, whereas (potential) shareholders are given an additional instrument to check whether an investment in an airport makes would be viable or not.

Abstract:
Global competition is growing not only on a products/firms level, but also among countries. There are many approaches to interpretation of a concept of the “country competitiveness”, which in particular means “the state of the country in the global market due to the international division of labor, national conditions and factors of production and its ability to compete effectively in world markets”. The competitiveness of countries is determined by many factors and is assessed by different approaches and methods. Some of the best known are the methodologies of the Institute for Management Development (IMD) and the World Economic Forum (WEF). Potential investors are guided by them when making decisions about investing in the economy, financial institutions – when evaluating countries as recipients of capital, etc. The WEF’s Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) is based on 12 groups of over 100 indicators and is regularly adjusted to meet current challenges facing national economies. The latest version – GCI 4.0 – includes: 1. Enabling Environment (1.1. Institutions. 1.2. Infrastructure. 1.3. ICT adoption. 1.4. Macroeconomic stability). 2. Human Capital (2.1. Health. 2.2. Skills). 3. Markets (3.1. Product market. 3.2. Labour market. 3.3. Financial system. 3.4. Market size). 4. Innovation Ecosystem (4.1. Business dynamism. 4.2. Innovation capability). According to GCI 2019, the top five are: Singapore, the United States, Hong Kong, Netherlands and Switzerland, while Ukraine – in the 85th place out of 141 countries. The competitiveness of Ukraine has been deteriorating for the third year in a row. The main regression is in the spheres of: financial systems, healthcare, ICT implementation, macroeconomic stability and innovation opportunities. Considering those 12 components, the multifactorial regression model for Ukraine competitiveness was designed based on aggregated and standardized GCI indicators of 2009– 2017 and 2018–2019. To estimate the parameters of the multifactor regression model, the least squares method and the application “Data Analysis” of the program MS EXCELL were used. The obtained model has been tested. As a result of modeling, it can be seen that – institutions indicator and – indicator of financial market development had the greatest influence on the competitiveness of Ukraine. Thus, they should become the priority areas of the state development and policy.

Abstract:
Increased level of competitivity, continued growth of customers and society demands, and the increasing complexity of products have increased the importance of quality. If the competition could be defined only in few keywords, one of them would surely include the following: quality, innovation and demanding customers. Considering customers who demand quality and competition that responds to such requests, the organization tend to focus increasingly on total quality management - TQM. Although the evolution of the "quality" concept lasts a century, it remains a challenge for all organizations. According to these statements, this paper aims to highlight some aspects of the state of implementation and application of TPM, as a defining component of TQM. The questionnaire method was applied as statistical research method used to a sample of 31 companies in the automotive industry in Romania. The objective behind the survey was to obtain as much information as possible about TPM. The data obtained were statistically processed to more accurately portray the current image of the degree of concern for TPM and how the TPM is approached by companies who responded to the questionnaire.

Abstract:
The gradually increasing competition that occurs in mature markets, pushes the companies to consider new ways of competing. The more mature the market becomes the higher level of competitive fulfillment and edge is needed. E.g. for Scania the dimension high quality was until now considered a competitive advantage, but is currently evolving towards a dimension that is necessary to fulfill to even act within the market. Thus, companies such as Scania have to push their limits everywhere possible across their organization. One way to push the limits of R&D and product development (PD) is, based on this thesis and other work, implementing a simulation based product development (SBPD) process. The aim of this thesis has been, by applying a quality function deployment (QFD) model, to show the influence a SBPD process can have on increased competitiveness. By combining published literature within the field with empirical results mostly gained from interviews, nine components representing a SBPD process could be found. These components were characterized in the following categories: IT-infrastructure, design, model & test, and organizational. Depending on the level of fulfillment of these components the SBPD process is more or less implemented within the company. The two components that are considered the most important for Scania in terms of both increased competitiveness and a possible transition towards a SBPD process are Virtual representa-tion of the product and the process throughout the whole PD process and A model driven/model based approach. The work of this thesis has also shown, in correlations with previous published literature, that a SBPD process can significantly decrease the lead-time and cost of development, and at the same time increase the knowledge about the product and the process. The research has also shown that a SBPD process can considerably improve both the internal and the external collaboration. However attaining such a process where these competitive advantages can be gained affects the whole organization, the way development is performed and also the way resources are used. A fully implemented SBPD process has been shown to positively impact the following competitive dimensions; Frequency of product introductions, Lead-time of development, PD process flexibility, Degree of innovation, Customization of the offer, Collaboration with internal and external partners, Knowledge about products and processes, R&D cost, manufacturing cost, Focus on customers operational economics, Product quality, Product safety and Focus on environmental sustainability of the product & the processes. But, to get a positive impact on all these dimensions the components representing a SBPD process must be implemented and applied. Furthermore, this thesis also provides a framework for other companies to evaluate the impact a SBPD process can have on their competitiveness. The analysis model aims to guide companies that want to adopt a SBPD process. The framework can indicate how a SBPD process would impact the firm's competitive strategy. But also to provide guidance to which components that would be more important to implement in order to reach a competitive SBPD process.

Abstract:

Higher education institutions have been adding global contexts to their mission/vision statements, strategic plans, objectives, and initiatives in an effort to meet the needs of organizations dealing with the phenomenon known as globalization. Phrases such as “ensuring our students are globally competitive,” “international competitiveness,” “success in a highly competitive global and technological marketplace,” “global perspective,” and “global competency” are becoming more common within higher education. Organizations are looking to higher education institutions to fill the need of future leaders with the leadership competencies required to manage effectively in a rapidly changing global environment. The purpose of this study was to explore and to better understand the concept of individual global competitiveness from the perspective of academic business and technology professionals from around the world. The study was commissioned to evaluate the eighteen factors extracted from the three theoretical models identified during the literature review process and to determine the importance of these factors to the development of an individual’s global competitiveness. The three basic research questions were: 1) How do academic business and technology professionals around the world define the term “individual global competitiveness”?; 2) What components from the three models are critical to influence, increase, or change an individual’s global competitiveness?; 3) What other factors, not represented in the three models, influence, increase, change, and define an individual’s global competitiveness? A mixed methods study was conducted, which consisted of an online survey and face-to-face interviews conducted at a conference in Helsinki, Finland. For the qualitative portion of the study, structured interviews were utilized which consisted of ten questions around the eighteen factors identified from the three theoretical models. The analysis of both data sets indicated three overriding factors that emerged during the study as essential to an individual’s global competitiveness: communication/language, collaborating/sharing, and adaptability. The results from the research indicate that it takes more than simply having a global mind-set for an individual to be globally competitive, that the ability to communicate, to collaborate, and to be adaptable are even more paramount and therefore need to be embedded into the context, curriculum, and culture of higher education institutions.

Carr, Christopher. "The competitiveness of UK vehicle component manufacturers." Thesis, University of Warwick, 1985. http://wrap.warwick.ac.uk/34624/.

Full text
Abstract:
This dissertation presents the results of using a multidisciplinary "business policy" approach to examine the competitive situation of UK vehicle component manufacturers. With the cooperation of the companies involved in six product sectors, detailed studies have been made comparing the strategies and performances of UK competitors over several years, as well as those of selected competitors in Japan, Germany and the USA. The UK vehicle component industry has undergone an unprecedented decline in performance. The causes of this decline are many. External factors outside the control of the companies concerned include the declining competitiveness of UK based vehicle manufacturers and the exceptionally unfavourable UK business environment including the pressure on real wages. But the decline in competitiveness of UK vehicle component manufacturers is not solely due to these factors outside their own control. Just as important is the lack of strategic management capability at the top management level of the companies themselves. Before the recession many of the companies failed to see the changes that were occurring in the pattern of competition and that their competitive position was slipping. Few recognised that competition was becoming more European or even more global. Even fewer were able to effectively analyse the situation, select a viable long term strategy and pursue it with commitment. Such a strategy required a choice of the part of the market in which to compete as well as how to compete particularly as far as longer term production strategy (productivity, quality, flexible manufacturing systems etc) was concerned. The recession only added to this problem and obscured the underlying cause. Many companies were forced to retrench but still have not recognised the longer term strategic issues which must be addressed if the long term decline is to be reversed.

The dissertation is devoted to the study of the competitiveness of enterprises on the basis of its components, the development of theoretical-methodological approach to the evaluation, as well as the allocation of vitality as a background of competitiveness of enterprises. Based on a critical and analytical research of essence of the concepts of «competitiveness», «sustainability», «components of competitiveness», the main approaches to the classification of components of existing methods to assess the level of competitiveness of the enterprise, an algorithm for measuring the competitiveness of the enterprise was developed on the basis of its organizational and economic components through the consistent use of multivariate statistical methods, in particular: the taxonomic method, the method of principal components and method nonmetric multidimensional scaling. Proposed scientific and methodological approach to the evaluation of competitiveness of the enterprise on the basis of the business components has passed approbation on the basis of milk-processing enterprises of Odessa and Mykolaiv regions.

Abstract:
South Africa is now well and truly part of the global economy after emerging from an inwardly looking era a mere 14 years ago. The change was felt by all South Africans, and most certainly also by local companies who entered the global market with their goods or services. This study investigates the way in which the South African automotive component manufacturing industry has entered the global market and adjusted to become globally competitive. This study is done in light of the presence of the Motor Industry Development Programme (MIDP), a sector-specific industrial policy that aims at making the South African automotive industry more competitive by enabling them to export. The study has shown that the MIDP is succesful in making component manufacturers more competitive, but that its methods for doing so are varied and in some cases not direct or perhaps even intentional. The study has also illuminated the role that original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) play in enabling the MIDP to affect component manufacturers and in enabling the component manufacturers to sell its products profitably in the global marketplace.

Abstract:
Well being is a multidimensional phenomenon, that cannot be measured by a single descriptive indicator and that, it should be represented by multiple dimensions. It requires, to be measured by combination of different dimensions that can be considered together as components of the phenomenon. This combination can be obtained by applying methodologies knows as Composite Indicators (CIs). CIs are largely used to have a comprehensive view on a phenomenon that cannot be captured by a single indicator. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is one of the most popular multivariate statistical technique used for reducing data with many dimension, and often well being indicators are obtained using PCA. PCA is implicitly based on a reflective measurement model that it non suitable for all types of indicators. Mazziotta and Pareto (2013) in their paper discuss the use and misuse of PCA for measuring well-being. The classical PCA is not suitable for data collected on the territory because it does not take into account the spatial autocorrelation present in the data. The aim of this paper is to propose the use of Spatial Principal Component Analysis for measuring well being in the Italian Provinces.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter corresponds to the macro-quantitative component. It discusses how competitiveness and corruption were modelled, how the methods were applied in the correlation analysis and which empirical results were achieved.Regression analysis is used to test the relationship between variables of some prominent prosperity/corruption theories. This part does not seek to prove causation, but instead empirically explores whether competitiveness/transparency are related to indicators such as state religion or a population’s religious affiliation.Consistent results of the models on competitiveness (GCI) are: (1) a positive influence of EPI on GCI; (2) a positive influence of a German legal origin (or German language) on GCI; (3) a negative influence of an Orthodox population on GCI; and (4) a negative influence of a Roman Catholic population (or Roman Catholic State Religion) on GCI. These results are also consistent with the predictions in the theory chapters (Chaps. 10.1007/978-3-030-78498-0_6–10.1007/978-3-030-78498-0_11).The corruption model applied here tests the interrelations between GDP, political liberties (democracy proxy), and language and ethnic fractionalisation. The results of the models on corruption are entirely compatible with theory. The results confirm my hypothesis that transparency levels are directly (i.e. positively) related to the proportion of Protestants in countries in Europe and the Americas.

Abstract:
AbstractWidening access to higher education became an issue of political concern after the Second World War. It aimed both at improving social justice by granting conditions of access to all social groups and by improving economic performance because a more educated population would contribute to the economic competitiveness of countries. Equity has two components, fairness—which implies that personal and social circumstances do not hinder achieving educational potential, and inclusion, which means that all are able to attain a basic standard of education. It was believed that social inequalities could be reduced through the massification of higher education and, although some progress has been made in terms of increased participation, inequalities seem to persist. Much of what happens in terms of inequity is related to higher education being a positional good. Social groups from deprived backgrounds are not in a good position to compete for positional goods, which have a tendency to be monopolised by social groups from privileged backgrounds. The positional character of higher education makes fairness difficult to attain. Inclusion policies, by promoting a progressive increase of parents with higher education degrees will contribute in a safe, even if slow way, to progressively lower the level of inequity.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter contains the meso component (Qualitative Comparative Analysis, QCA). It discusses the QCA research model, the QCA methodology, and the analysis of the QCA results.QCA is used to analyse both quantitative and qualitative data, thus enabling causal inferences. However, QCA is not a statistical technique that focuses on the likelihood of the relations among variables. Instead, it is a method based on Boolean logic, rooted in set theory, and founded on the notions of sufficiency, the necessity of conditions, and conjunctural causation.QCA results indicate, among others, that for high competitiveness, high EPI suffices if Concordats with the Vatican are low and if the Roman Catholic and Orthodox population is low. No State Religion positively affects competitiveness. Having Concordats with the Vatican negatively influences competitiveness. Additionally, factors like German, English, and Scandinavian legal origin help to increase competitiveness.Oppositely, QCA results for high corruption indicate that Concordats in combination with Roman Catholic religion adherence increase corruption. Orthodox religion has a similar negative effect. Most countries with high corruption are of French legal origin and have high Concordats. This trend is robust.Colombia and Switzerland (the two extreme cases) exhibited several consistent QCA results. The other two cases (Cuba and Uruguay) only revealed one or two consistent outcomes.

Abstract:
Product designers are seeking effective ways to meet customer requirements, government policies, and internal business drivers for sustainability. Sustainable products encompass attributes including recyclable and renewable materials use, low energy consumption, cost competitiveness, and consideration of safety and health concerns. Beyond product attributes, however, sustainable products are cognizant of a broader life cycle perspective, which necessitates consideration of manufacturing and supply chain issues during design. Current life cycle assessment tools are often deficient in assisting design for manufacturing efforts due to coarseness of available process data or even a lack of representative process models. In addition, such tools consider only the environmental impacts and do not account for broader sustainability measures. Research with a titanium component manufacturer is addressing these deficiencies. A unit process modeling-based method is described to assist in strategic decision making to balance cradle-to-gate economic, environmental, and social attributes. A set of metrics is defined and used as a basis for comparison of design alternatives. The method is demonstrated for analysis of titanium component alternatives resulting from design for manufacturing activities. It is shown that this method can assist engineers in developing more sustainable products.

Abstract:
Managing ageing and remaining lifetime of an industrial facility is a concern that must be taken in account by utility as soon as possible in daily activities. The corresponding actions engaged in France are based on 3 major step that are described in the paper: • routine maintenance, • exceptional maintenance, • systematic and periodic review of safety important components and structures sensitive to ageing to assure the effectiveness of the maintenance actions and maintain a high safety level of the plant with a good competitiveness. Following different on-going programs on ageing management of different components, EDF developed its own approach, based on IAEA guidelines, in order to systematically review all the ageing management programs implemented on its 3-loop plants. The methodology is done in 3 steps: • selection of components and justification, • degradation mechanism analysis, • synthesis and consequences on maintenance programs. After a presentation of each step of the procedure a quick overview of the status of application in France is done. Comparison of the methodology with similar methodology used in different other countries is done to close the paper.

Abstract:
The socio-economic changes brought about by globalisation, the internationalisation and digitalisation of higher education, as well as the current demographic situation in Europe and Latvia, raise the issue of the competitiveness of academic staff in the context of multicultural higher education. The aim of the study is to provide a theoretical basis for the competitiveness of academic staff in the view of educational sciences, respecting the different trends and based on the conceptual approaches in personal/specialist competitiveness research. The following research methods were used: study, analysis and evaluation of scientific literature (theoretical research method); reflection of personal experience (empirical research method). As a result of the theoretical research, two trends for the substantiation of the concept of competitiveness in the educational sciences were identified. The first trend: the competitiveness of a person is substantiated through transfers from economic and management science, with a particular emphasis on specialist marketability and employability as a significant manifestation of competitiveness. The second trend: according to the new paradigm of competitiveness in educational sciences, the competitiveness of a human as a person and as a specialist is based on the perspective of pedagogy and psychology. The research results led to the conclusion that there are three conceptual approaches in the methodology of competitiveness research: 1) qualitative approach: identifies and lists competitive personality traits and qualities; 2) functional approach: describes the competitive behaviour of a person or specialist; 3) structural approach: competitiveness is substantiated as a complex combination of personal/specialist qualities, identifying several structural components. All of these approaches are also characteristic to the research of competitiveness of academic staff. The following taxonomy should be respected in the substantiation of academic staff competitiveness: 1) substantiation of personal competitiveness; 2) substantiation of specialist competitiveness in the context of different industries; 3) the substantiation of the competitiveness of specifically academic staff in the context of the specifics of higher education.

Abstract This paper describes how the functional behavior and embodiment of design solutions can be modeled using configurable components. The concept of a system structure composed of configurable components is defined and put in context of business requirements as well as in context of design theory and more specifically the chromosome model and function-means-trees. The paper contends that this kind of product description is necessary from a business perspective in order to successfully manage development of derivative products and product variants based on a product platform concept. The concepts presented in this paper is currently being deployed at Saab Automobile as the next logical evolution of product description systems necessary in order to maintain competitiveness in the automotive business.

Abstract:
Continuous fiber ceramic composite materials (CFCCs) are being considered for an increasing number of commercial applications. They provide the potential for lighter, stranger, more corrosion resistant components that can perform at higher temperature for long periods of time. Global competitiveness demands a shortening of the time for CFCC commercialization. Thus considerable effort has been expended to develop and improve the materials, and to a lesser extent, to develop component design methods and data bases of engineering properties. To shorten the time to commercialization, project efforts must be integrated, while balancing project resources between material development and engineering design. Currently a good balance does not exist for most materials development projects. To rectify this imbalance, improvements in engineering design and development technologies must be supported and accelerated, with a focus on component issues. This will require project managers to give increasing emphasis to component design needs in addition to their current focus on material development.

Abstract:
Modular product design (MPD) has attracted significant attention. The concept of sustainability has also received attention in view of the intensifying demands concerning environmental issues. Because the way a product or system is modularized can have implications on its sustainability, investigating MPD and sustainability jointly is important. To this intended joint investigation, we add the concept of a product’s key components. Mostly, product competitiveness depends strongly on a few key components; thus, we should logically design products with a concentrated consideration of their key components. However, to the best of our knowledge, only scant research addresses key components. Developing an optimal MPD method, which incorporates key components specification, is the primary motivation for this research. In this paper, we provide a sustainable modular product design approach. A graph-based clustering algorithm is offered to cluster components into modules. A module structure sustainability index (MSSI) is used to find an optimal sustainability module structure. A coffee maker case study is used to illustrate the proposed methodology.

This requires not only to overcome technical and/or technological barriers, but it is crucial to also address on technical barriers. Whereas well suited system integration strategies, design tools, standardized procedures or modular components are all in all paramount for the development of reliable and prompt off the shelve solutions, experience shows that often non-technological barriers might have a critical role in the decision making process. Above all, competitiveness and investment/financing related barriers prove in many cases to be the bottleneck for the adoption of solar thermal technologies in the industrial framework.

Abstract:
In modern conditions, innovative augmented reality technologies are actively developing, which are widespread in many areas of human activity. Introduction of advanced developments in the process of professional training of future specialists of socionomic professions in the conditions of adaptive training, contributes to the implementation of the principles of a personalized approach and increase the overall level of competitiveness. The relevant scientific article is devoted to the theoretical and empirical analysis result of conducting a psychodiagnostic study on an innovative computer complex HC-psychotest. of the features of the implementation of augmented reality technologies in the construct of traditional psychological and pedagogical support aimed at the development of emotional intelligence of the future specialist. The interdisciplinary approach was used while carrying out the research work at the expense of the general fund of the state budget: “Adaptive system for individualization and personalization of professional training of future specialists in the conditions of blended learning”. A comprehensive study of the implementation of traditional psychological-pedagogical and innovative augmented reality technologies was conducted in the framework of scientific cooperation of STEAM-Laboratory, Laboratory of Psychophysiological Research and Laboratory of Psychology of Health in Bogdan Khmelnitsky Melitopol State Pedagogical University. The theoretical analysis considers the structural model of emotional intelligence of the future specialist of socionomic professions, which is represented by two structural components: intrapersonal construct of emotional intelligence and interpersonal construct of emotional intelligence. Each component mediates the inherent emotional intelligence of interpretive, regulatory, adaptive, stress-protective and activating functions. The algorithm of the empirical block of research is presented by two stages: ascertaining and forming research. According to the results of the statement, low indicators were found on most scales, reflecting the general level of emotional intelligence development of future specialists, actualizing the need to find and implement effective measures for the development of emotional intelligence components in modern higher education and taking into account information development and digitalization. As part of the formative stage of the research implementation, a comprehensive program “Development of emotional intelligence of future professionals” was tested, which integrated traditional psychological and pedagogical technologies and innovative augmented reality technologies. This program is designed for 24 hours, 6 thematic classes of 4 hours. According to the results of a comprehensive ascertaining and shaping research, the effectiveness of the influence of augmented reality technologies on the general index of emotional intelligence is proved. The step-by-step model of integration of augmented reality components influencing the ability to analyze, understand and regulate emotional states into a complex program of emotional intelligence development is demonstrated. According to the results of the formative study, there is a dominance of high indicators of the following components: intrapersonal (50%), interpersonal (53.3%). Thus, we can say that intrapersonal and interpersonal emotional intelligence together involve the actualization of various cognitive processes and skills, and are related to each other. Immigration policies establish instruments for the organization and management of human resources to attract qualified workers and international students in a context of global competitiveness. Currently, Asian countries have gained relevance in attracting human resources. In Japan, the main component influencing the dynamics of international migration flows is the transnational labor market for skilled human resources, as well as the mechanisms that shape it. The aim of this paper is to describe the socioeconomic factors that shape, drive and contextualize the mobility of skilled workers.

Abstract:
After analysis of scientific literature, we defined that concept of “augmented reality” has following synonyms: “advanced reality”, “improved reality”, “enriched reality”, “mixed reality” and “hybrid reality”. Analysis of scientific literature and own practical experience of the use of augmented reality technologies application in educational practices allowed to state next: augmented reality technologies have a great potential for application in education; there are some cases of augmented reality use for school education; positive aspects of augmented reality technologies application in higher education institutions are confirmed by experiments (isolated cases); only few universities in Ukraine apply augmented reality technologies to educate students; only few universities in Ukraine have special subjects or modules in schedule to teach students to develop augmented reality technologies; various scientific events, mass events, competitions are held in Ukraine, and specialized training on the augmentation of augmented reality technologies is carried out, but this is non-systematic and does not have special state orientation and support. Features of introduction of virtual and augmented reality technologies at Sumy State University (Ukraine) are identified: “e-learning ecosystems” was created; in 2019, augmented and virtual reality research laboratory was established. Advantages and disadvantages of project activity in education are described: project activity is one of the most important components of educational process; it promotes creative self-development and self-realization of project implementers and forms various life competencies. It is determined that augmented reality application for implementation of educational projects will help: to increase students’ interest for educational material; formation of new competences; increase of students’ motivation for independent educational and cognitive activity; activation of educational activities; formation of positive motivation for personal and professional growth; conditions creation for development of personal qualities (creativity, teamwork, etc.). Current trends in implementation of educational projects were identified: most of the winner projects were implemented using augmented reality technology; augmented reality technologies were used in projects to teach different disciplines in higher education institutions. Augmented reality technology application for project activity has positive impact on learning outcomes and competitiveness of the national workforce; it will enhance the country’s position in the global economic space.

Yuval, Boaz, and Todd E. Shelly. Lek Behavior of Mediterranean Fruit Flies: An Experimental Analysis. United States Department of Agriculture, July 2000. http://dx.doi.org/10.32747/2000.7575272.bard.

Abstract:
The Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata (Diptera: Tephritidae), is a ubiquitous pest of fruit trees, causing significant economic damage both in the U.S. and in Israel. Control efforts in the future will rely heavily on the sterile insect technique (SIT). Success of such operations hinges on the competitive ability of released males. The mating system of the medfly is based on leks. These are aggregations of sexually signaling males that attract females (who then select and copulate a courting male). A major component of male competitiveness is their ability to join existing leks or establish leks that are attractive to wild females. Accordingly, we identified leks and the behaviors associated with them as critical for the success of SIT operations. The objectives of this proposal were to determine 1. what makes a good lek site, 2. what are the energetic costs of lekking, 3. how females choose leks, and finally 4. whether the copulatory success of sterile males may be manipulated by particular pre-release diets and judicious spatial dispersal. We established that males choose lek sites according to their spatial location and penological status, that they avoid predators, and within the lek tree choose the perch that affords a compromise between optimal signalling, micro-climatic conditions and predation risk (Kaspi & Yuval 1999 a&b; Field et al 2000; Kaspi & Yuval submitted). We were able to show that leks are exclusive, and that only males with adequate protein and carbohydrate reserves can participate (Yuval et al 1998; Kaspi et al 2000; Shelly et al 2000). We determined that females prefer leks formed by protein fed, sexually experienced males (Shelly 2000). Finally, we demonstrated that adding protein to the diet of sterile males significantly enhances their probability of participating in leks and copulating wild females (Kaspi & Yuval 2000).

National Single Window: Guidance Note. Asian Development Bank, May 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.22617/tim220175-2.

Full text
Abstract:
This note provides information on planning and implementing electronic national single window systems to support efficient compliance with international trade regulations. A national single window enables trade and transport stakeholders to provide information to multiple government agencies through one platform to meet import, export, and transit requirements efficiently. Processing international trade through a single window reduces cargo release time and the cost of doing business, increases competitiveness and efficiency, and improves the way business is done. The guidance note explores why such a system matters, key governance and design components, international interoperability, good practices, and risk mitigation.
