Abstract:
The gradually increasing competition that occurs in mature markets, pushes the companies to consider new ways of competing. The more mature the market becomes the higher level of competitive fulfillment and edge is needed. E.g. for Scania the dimension high quality was until now considered a competitive advantage, but is currently evolving towards a dimension that is necessary to fulfill to even act within the market. Thus, companies such as Scania have to push their limits everywhere possible across their organization. One way to push the limits of R&D and product development (PD) is, based on this thesis and other work, implementing a simulation based product development (SBPD) process. The aim of this thesis has been, by applying a quality function deployment (QFD) model, to show the influence a SBPD process can have on increased competitiveness. By combining published literature within the field with empirical results mostly gained from interviews, nine components representing a SBPD process could be found. These components were characterized in the following categories: IT-infrastructure, design, model & test, and organizational. Depending on the level of fulfillment of these components the SBPD process is more or less implemented within the company. The two components that are considered the most important for Scania in terms of both increased competitiveness and a possible transition towards a SBPD process are Virtual representa-tion of the product and the process throughout the whole PD process and A model driven/model based approach. The work of this thesis has also shown, in correlations with previous published literature, that a SBPD process can significantly decrease the lead-time and cost of development, and at the same time increase the knowledge about the product and the process. The research has also shown that a SBPD process can considerably improve both the internal and the external collaboration. However attaining such a process where these competitive advantages can be gained affects the whole organization, the way development is performed and also the way resources are used. A fully implemented SBPD process has been shown to positively impact the following competitive dimensions; Frequency of product introductions, Lead-time of development, PD process flexibility, Degree of innovation, Customization of the offer, Collaboration with internal and external partners, Knowledge about products and processes, R&D cost, manufacturing cost, Focus on customers operational economics, Product quality, Product safety and Focus on environmental sustainability of the product & the processes. But, to get a positive impact on all these dimensions the components representing a SBPD process must be implemented and applied. Furthermore, this thesis also provides a framework for other companies to evaluate the impact a SBPD process can have on their competitiveness. The analysis model aims to guide companies that want to adopt a SBPD process. The framework can indicate how a SBPD process would impact the firm's competitive strategy. But also to provide guidance to which components that would be more important to implement in order to reach a competitive SBPD process.
Den gradvis ökande konkurrens som uppstår på mogna marknader driver företagen att finna nya sätt att konkurrera. Ju mer mogen marknaden blir desto högre blir kraven på konkurrens. För Scania har faktorn hög kvalitet tills nu betraktas som en konkurrensfördel, men utveckling sker istället mot att det kommer att vara en faktor som är nödvändig att uppfylla för att ens kunna agera på marknaden. Företag som Scania måste således utvecklas över hela organisationen. Ett sätt att tänja på gränserna för FoU och produktutveckling (PD) är, baserat på detta arbete och annan tidigare forskning, att genomföra en förändring mot en simulering baserad produktutvecklings-process (SBPD). Syftet med detta examensarbete har varit att, genom att tillämpa en quality function deployment (QFD) modell, visa effekten en SBPD-process kan ha på ökad konkurrenskraft. Genom att kombinera tidigare publicerad litteratur inom området med empiriska resultat, mestadels insamlat genom intervjuer, kunde nio komponenter som utgör en SBPD-process finnas. Dessa komponenter karakteriserades i följande kategorier: IT-infrastruktur, design, modellera och testa och organisatorisk. Beroende på graden av uppfyllnad på dessa komponenter blir den SBPD-processen mer eller mindre implementerad inom företaget. De två komponenterna som anses viktigast för Scania i form av både ökad konkurrenskraft och en eventuell övergång till en SBPD-process är Virtuell representation av produkten och processen genom hela PD-processen och Ett modellbaserat/ modelldrivet arbetssätt används. Arbetet har också visat i korrelation med tidigare publicerad litteratur, att en SBPD-process kommer att minska ledtiden och kostnaden för utveckling avsevärt och samtidigt öka kunskapen om produkten och processen. Denna studie har också visat att en SBPD-process kan förbättra både interna och externa samarbeten. Men att uppnå en sådan process där dessa konkurrens-fördelar kan vinnas kommer att påverka hela organisationen, det sätt som utveckling utförs på och också hur resurserna används. En fullt implementerad SBPD-process har visat positivt påverkan följande konkurrens faktorer; frekvens av produktlanseringar, ledtiden för utveckling, PD-processflexibilitet, innovationsgrad, anpassning av erbjudandet, samarbete med interna och externa partners, kunskap om produkter och processer, FoU kostnader, tillverkningskostnad, fokus på kundernas driftsekonomi, produktkvalitet, produktsäkerhet och miljöpåverkan av både produkten och processen. För att få en positiv inverkan på alla dessa faktorer måste alla komponenter som utgör en SBPD-process implementeras och tillämpas. Dessutom så presenteras även ett ramverk för andra företag att utvärdera effekterna en SBPD-process skulle ha på deras konkurrenskraft. Analysmodellen syftar till att vägleda företag som vill övergå till en SBPD-process. Ramverket kan ange hur en SBPD-process skulle kunna påverka företagets konkurrensstrategi men också ge vägledning om vilka komponenter som kan vara viktigare att börja implementera för att nå en konkurrenskraftig SBPD-process.

Abstract:

Higher education institutions have been adding global contexts to their mission/vision statements, strategic plans, objectives, and initiatives in an effort to meet the needs of organizations dealing with the phenomenon known as globalization. Phrases such as “ensuring our students are globally competitive,” “international competitiveness,” “success in a highly competitive global and technological marketplace,” “global perspective,” and “global competency” are becoming more common within higher education. Organizations are looking to higher education institutions to fill the need of future leaders with the leadership competencies required to manage effectively in a rapidly changing global environment. The purpose of this study was to explore and to better understand the concept of individual global competitiveness from the perspective of academic business and technology professionals from around the world. The study was commissioned to evaluate the eighteen factors extracted from the three theoretical models identified during the literature review process and to determine the importance of these factors to the development of an individual’s global competitiveness. The three basic research questions were: 1) How do academic business and technology professionals around the world define the term “individual global competitiveness”?; 2) What components from the three models are critical to influence, increase, or change an individual’s global competitiveness?; 3) What other factors, not represented in the three models, influence, increase, change, and define an individual’s global competitiveness? A mixed methods study was conducted, which consisted of an online survey and face-to-face interviews conducted at a conference in Helsinki, Finland. For the qualitative portion of the study, structured interviews were utilized which consisted of ten questions around the eighteen factors identified from the three theoretical models. The analysis of both data sets indicated three overriding factors that emerged during the study as essential to an individual’s global competitiveness: communication/language, collaborating/sharing, and adaptability. The results from the research indicate that it takes more than simply having a global mind-set for an individual to be globally competitive, that the ability to communicate, to collaborate, and to be adaptable are even more paramount and therefore need to be embedded into the context, curriculum, and culture of higher education institutions.

Проаналізовано: роздрібний ринок будівельних матеріалів, фінансово-економічний стан підприємства ПрАТ «Нова Лінія», рівень конкурентоспроможності підприємства ПрАТ «Нова Лінія». Запропоновано збільшення конкурентоспроможності підприємства за рахунок підвищення рівня маркетингової складової та вдосконалення програми лояльності.
The paper considers the theoretical aspects of the category of enterprise competitiveness, the factors that determine it, as well as modern approaches and methods of assessing the competitiveness of the enterprise. Analyzed: retail market of building materials, financial and economic condition of the enterprise PJSC "New Line", the level of competitiveness of the enterprise PJSC "New Line". It is proposed to increase the competitiveness of the enterprise by increasing the level of marketing component and improving the loyalty program.

Abstract:
This dissertation presents the results of using a multidisciplinary "business policy" approach to examine the competitive situation of UK vehicle component manufacturers. With the cooperation of the companies involved in six product sectors, detailed studies have been made comparing the strategies and performances of UK competitors over several years, as well as those of selected competitors in Japan, Germany and the USA. The UK vehicle component industry has undergone an unprecedented decline in performance. The causes of this decline are many. External factors outside the control of the companies concerned include the declining competitiveness of UK based vehicle manufacturers and the exceptionally unfavourable UK business environment including the pressure on real wages. But the decline in competitiveness of UK vehicle component manufacturers is not solely due to these factors outside their own control. Just as important is the lack of strategic management capability at the top management level of the companies themselves. Before the recession many of the companies failed to see the changes that were occurring in the pattern of competition and that their competitive position was slipping. Few recognised that competition was becoming more European or even more global. Even fewer were able to effectively analyse the situation, select a viable long term strategy and pursue it with commitment. Such a strategy required a choice of the part of the market in which to compete as well as how to compete particularly as far as longer term production strategy (productivity, quality, flexible manufacturing systems etc) was concerned. The recession only added to this problem and obscured the underlying cause. Many companies were forced to retrench but still have not recognised the longer term strategic issues which must be addressed if the long term decline is to be reversed.

Дисертація присвячена дослідженню конкурентоспроможності підприємств на основі її складових, розвитку методичних засад її оцінки, а також виділенню життєздатності як передумови конкурентоспроможності підприємств. На основі критичного та аналітичного дослідження сутності понять «конкурентоспроможність», «життєздатність», «складові конкурентоспроможності», основних підходів до класифікації складових, існуючих методів оцінки рівня конкурентоспроможності підприємства розроблено логічну схему вимірювання конкурентоспроможності підприємства на основі її організаційно-економічних складових шляхом послідовного використання багатовимірних статистичних методів, зокрема таксономічного методу, методу головних компонент та методу багатовимірного неметричного шкалювання. Запропонований науково-методичний підхід оцінки конкурентоспроможності підприємства на основі організаційно-економічних складових пройшов апробацію на основі молокопереробних підприємств Одеської та Миколаївської областей.
Диссертация посвящена изучению конкурентоспособности предприятий на основе ее составляющих, развитию методических основ ее оценки, а также выделению жизнеспособности как предпосылки конкурентоспособности предприятий. Систематизация научных трудов по определению и взаимосвязей концепций конкурентоспособности и жизнеспособности позволила определить собственное понимание указанных понятий. Под конкурентоспособностью следует понимать возможность жизнеспособного предприятия обрести преимущества относительно конкурентов посредством собственных организационно-экономических составляющих. В то же время жизнеспособность указывает на наличие у предприятий необходимого и достаточного потенциала для преодоления дисбаланса хозяйствующей системы и поддержания определенного уровня хозяйственной деятельности с целью избежания убыточности. На основе критического и аналитического исследования сущности понятий «конкурентоспособность», «жизнеспособность», «составляющие конкурентоспособности», основных подходов к классификации составляющих, существующих методов оценки уровня конкурентоспособности предприятия разработана логическая схема измерения конкурентоспособности предприятия на основе ее организационно-экономических составляющих путем последовательного использования многомерных статистических методов, в частности таксономического метода, метода главных компонент и метода неметрического многомерного шкалирования. Предложенная логическая схема предполагает 5 этапов анализа. На нулевом этапе проведена оценка уровня жизнеспособности молокоперерабатывающих предприятий с целью объединения предприятий из выборки в группы с соответствующим уровнем жизнеспособности. Значения отдельных показателей, характеризующих определенные организационно-экономические составляющие, полученные на первом этапе применения логической схемы, использованы для получения интегральных значений составляющих, а затем на их основе и значений группы экономических и организационных составляющих. Полученные данные позволили оценить уровень конкурентоспособности на основе организационно-экономических составляющих. В работе доказано, что предприятия, входящие в группу с низким уровнем жизнеспособности, характеризуются низким уровнем практически всех составляющих конкурентоспособности. Предложенный научно-методический подход к оценке конкурентоспособности предприятия на основе организационно-экономических составляющих прошел апробацию на базе молокоперерабатывающих предприятий Одесской и Николаевской областей, а именно: ПАО «Янтарь», ООО «Николаевский сырзавод», ЗАО «Тарутинский сырзавод», ПАО «Баштанский сырзавод», ПАО «Вознесенский сыркомбинат», ОАО «Веселиновский завод сухого обезжиренного молока», ПАО «Первомайский молочноконсервный комбинат» и ПАО «Лакталис-Николаев». Было выявлено, что ПАО «Янтарь», которое входит в группу предприятий с низким уровнем жизнеспособности, обладает относительно слабыми организационно-экономическими составляющими. Для него с целью обеспечения более высокого уровня конкурентоспособности был разработан ряд мероприятия, среди которых в качестве приоритетного была выбрана реализация конкурентного бенчмаркинга. Это позволило улучшить позиции предприятия по отдельным составляющим и соответственно обеспечить более высокий уровень конкурентоспособности.
The dissertation is devoted to the study of the competitiveness of enterprises on the basis of its components, the development of theoretical-methodological approach to the evaluation, as well as the allocation of vitality as a background of competitiveness of enterprises. Based on a critical and analytical research of essence of the concepts of «competitiveness», «sustainability», «components of competitiveness», the main approaches to the classification of components of existing methods to assess the level of competitiveness of the enterprise, an algorithm for measuring the competitiveness of the enterprise was developed on the basis of its organizational and economic components through the consistent use of multivariate statistical methods, in particular: the taxonomic method, the method of principal components and method nonmetric multidimensional scaling. Proposed scientific and methodological approach to the evaluation of competitiveness of the enterprise on the basis of the business components has passed approbation on the basis of milk-processing enterprises of Odessa and Mykolaiv regions.

У статті розглядається роль і значення іноземних інвестицій для національної економіки України. Встановлено, що інвестиційна активність в країні має певні бар'єри, які не дозволяють відкривати інвестиції для іноземців. Незважаючи на перешкоди, Україна має багато переваг при веденні та розвитку ефективної інвестиційної діяльності. Виявлено інвестиційно привабливі напрямки іноземних інвестицій, а також виявлено позитивний ефект їх застосування.
В статье рассматривается роль и значение иностранных инвестиций для национальной экономики Украины. Установлено, что инвестиционная активность в стране имеет определенные барьеры, не позволяющие открывать инвестиции для иностранцев. Несмотря на препятствия, Украина имеет много преимуществ при ведении и развитии эффективной инвестиционной деятельности. Выявлены инвестиционно привлекательные направления иностранных инвестиций, а также выявлен положительный эффект их применения.
The article deals with the role and importance of foreign investment for the national economy of Ukraine. It is determined that investment activity in the country has certain barriers that do not allow open investment by foreigners. Despite the obstacles, Ukraine has many advantages for conducting and developing effective investment activities. The authors identify investment-attractive areas of foreign investment, as well as reveal the positive effect of their application.

Abstract:
South Africa is now well and truly part of the global economy after emerging from an inwardly looking era a mere 14 years ago. The change was felt by all South Africans, and most certainly also by local companies who entered the global market with their goods or services. This study investigates the way in which the South African automotive component manufacturing industry has entered the global market and adjusted to become globally competitive. This study is done in light of the presence of the Motor Industry Development Programme (MIDP), a sector-specific industrial policy that aims at making the South African automotive industry more competitive by enabling them to export. The study has shown that the MIDP is succesful in making component manufacturers more competitive, but that its methods for doing so are varied and in some cases not direct or perhaps even intentional. The study has also illuminated the role that original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) play in enabling the MIDP to affect component manufacturers and in enabling the component manufacturers to sell its products profitably in the global marketplace.

Проаналізовано рівень та динаміка найбільш важливих техніко-економічних показників діяльності досліджуваного підприємства, проведений аналіз стану, руху, рівня використання і відтворення за досліджуваний період часу. Запропоновано заходи, що сприяють підвищення ефективності та прибутковості діяльності підприємства за рахунок підвищення рівня окремих складових інтелектуального капіталу підприємства.
The work deals with the theoretical aspects of the concept of the category of intellectual capital, including focus on its essence, structure, specific properties. Analyzed the level and dynamics of the most important technical and economic indicators of the enterprise under study, analyzed the movement, level of use and reproduction of intellectual capital for the researched period. The proposed activities that contribute to improving the efficiency and profitability of the enterprise by increasing the level of human and intellectual technological capital.

У статті було обгрунтовано необхідність зниження енергоємності виробництва в системі забезпечення конкурентоспроможності екологічно стійкого розвитку адміністративно-територіальної одиниці. Було визначено сутність адміністративної-територіальної одиниці з точки зору фундаментальних процесів її функціонування та розвитку. Була запропонована концепція екологічно сталого розвитку адміністративно-територіальної одиниці.
В статье была обоснована необходимость снижения энергоемкости производства в системе обеспечения конкурентоспособности экологически устойчивого развития административно-территориальной единицы. Была определена сущность административно-территориальной единицы с точки зрения фундаментальных процессов ее функционирования и развития. Была предложена концепция экологически устойчивого развития административно-территориальной единицы.
The need to reduce the energy intensity of production in the system of the competitiveness ensuring of the administrative-territorial unit environmentally sustainable development has been justified in the article. The essence of the administrative -territorial unit in terms of the fundamental processes of its operation and development has been determined. У роботі розглядаються теоретичні аспекти управління персоналом та місце оцінки в його процесі. Проведено аналіз особливості функціонування готельних підприємств та аналіз конкурентоспроможності, виявлені сильні та слабкі сторони в управлінні персоналом готелю. Шляхом анкетування виявлені основні недоліки в управлінні та запропоновані заходи для його покращення. З використанням розрахунку за показником маржинального доходу обгрунтовано доцільність запропонованих заходів.
The qualifying paper considers the theoretical aspects of personnel management and the place of evaluation in its process. An analysis of the peculiarities of the operation of hotel enterprises and an analysis of competitiveness, identified strengths and weaknesses in the management of hotel staff. The survey identified the main shortcomings in management and proposed measures to improve it. The calculation of the marginal income indicates the feasibility of the proposed measures.The proposed measure will significantly increase the competitiveness of the bakery.

Досліджено функціонування морського транспортної галузі в інституційному вимірі, охарактеризовано інфраструктуру морської галузі та ідентифіковано фактори впливу на результати її операційної діяльності, окреслено організаційно-методичне забезпечення формування та розвитку морської транспортної галузі. Проаналізовано тенденції та перспективи функціонування морської транспортної галузі України на міжнародному транспортному ринку; надано оцінку впливу екологічних стандартів та обмежень на її функціонування; ідентифіковані системні проблеми розвитку морської транспортної галузі України. Обґрунтовано сучасні вектори економічних реформ вітчизняної морської транспортної галузі, визначено методологічні основи участі української морської транспортної галузі у світовий мережі постачання шляхом забезпечення їх функціонування у прогресивних транспортно-технологічних системах, ефективної взаємодії іншими видами транспорту та нормативно-правого забезпечення договірних відносин між суб’єктами господарчої діяльності. Розроблено методичні підходи до вирішення проблем ринків транспортних послуг на національному просторі на підставі обґрунтованих головних причин виникнення, розкрито особливості асиметрії секторів морських перевезень. Розроблено наукові інструменти до врахування природи секторальної асиметрії при входженні на ринок транспортних послуг малого тоннажу ЄС.
В диссертации теоретически обосновано и предложено новое решение научной проблемы, которое заключается в углублении и обосновании теоретико-методологических и научно-методических основ функционирования морской транспортной отрасли Украины и разработке стратегии ее развития в условиях евроинтеграции. Эффективное развитие морской транспортной отрасли Украины как важной составляющей экономического роста национального хозяйства возможно при условии адаптации к требованиям европейского судоходства, что будет способствовать инициации структурных изменений в указанном секторе. Стратегические цели функционирования морской транспортной отрасли в условиях глобализации заключаются в формировании условий достижения и поддержания стабильных и предсказуемых конкурентных основ для морской транспортной отрасли, что будет способствовать обеспечению устойчивости ее развития в условиях стагнации или экономического спада. Исследовано функционирование морской транспортной отрасли в институциональном измерении, охарактеризовано инфраструктуру морской отрасли и идентифицировано факторы влияния на результаты ее операционной деятельности, определено организационно-методическое обеспечение формирования и развития морской транспортной отрасли. Проанализированы тенденции и перспективы функционирования морской транспортной отрасли Украины на международном транспортном рынке; дана оценка влияния экологических стандартов и ограничений на ее функционирование; идентифицированы системные проблемы развития морской транспортной отрасли Украины. Анализ институционной среды развития морской транспортной отрасли, доказывает отсутствие действенного механизма, который обеспечит эффективное функционирования судоходного сектора. Требует определенности режим налогообложения судоходной деятельности, поскольку предоставление льгот и преференций компаниям-нерезидентам страны уменьшают поступления в бюджет страны. Оценка результатов гармонизации нормативно-правовых актов Украины и ЕС по обеспечению развития морской транспортной отрасли позволило установить диспропорции в регулировании деятельности инфраструктуры и упрощении процедур доступа на рынок морских перевозок иностранных судоходных компаний, что приводит к ограничению судоходных позиций нашего государства. Идентифицированы прямые и косвенные факторы повышения эффективности функционирования транспортной отрасли, которые способны положительно повлиять на морские перевозки и увеличить объемы перевозки, создав возможности для развивающихся стран, в качестве пользователей и поставщиков услуг морского транспорта. В работе определены современные векторы экономических реформ отечественной морской транспортной отрасли. Рассмотрены методологические основы участия украинской морской транспортной отрасли в мировой сети снабжения за счет обеспечения их функционирования в прогрессивных транспортно-технологических системах, которые эффективно взаимодействуют с другими видами транспорта и нормативно-правым обеспечением договорных отношений между субъектами хозяйственной деятельности. Разработаны методические подходы к решению проблем рынков транспортных услуг на национальном пространстве на основании обоснованных причин их возникновения, раскрыты особенности асимметрии секторов морских перевозок. Разработаны научные инструменты к учету природы секторальной асимметрии при вхождении на рынок транспортных услуг малого тоннажа ЕС. Сформулированы основные положения стратегии развития морской транспортной отрасли Украины в условиях евроинтеграции, основанные на формировании национального нормативно-правового обеспечения в соответствии с требованиями ЕС и потребностям предприятий морской транспортной отрасли Украины. Обоснованны этапы формирования и реализации стратегии развития морской транспортной отрасли Украины. Предложены научно-практические рекомендации по модернизации инфраструктуры обеспечения развития морской транспортной отрасли Украины в контексте стимулирования вхождения отечественной морской транспортной отрасли на международные рынки интермодальных и мультимодальных перевозок.
Theoretically grounded and proposed new solution of scientific problems was to deepen and substantiate theoretical-methodological and scientific-methodological bases functioning of maritime transport industry of Ukraine and creation a strategy for its development in terms of European integration. The conceptual provisions of the maritime transport industry operation management were generalized and developed and their role was revealed for the economic growth of Ukraine. The work determined the maritime transport industry development, transport formation features and economic relations structure were described. The modern vectors of economic reforms of the domestic maritime transport industry were well-grounded, methodological bases of Ukrainian maritime transport industry participation in the global supply network were determined by ensuring their functioning in progressive transport and technological systems, effective interaction with other types of transport and regulatory provision of contractual relations between economic entities. The methodical approaches to solving problems of transport services markets in the national space based on the substantiated main causes of occurrence was developed, asymmetry of the sectors of sea transportations was revealed. Scientific instruments were developed to take into account the nature of sectoral asymmetry when entering the EU transport market for small tonnage.

Abstract This study adopted the export competitiveness model to analyze the industrial competitiveness through the amount of export, ratio, and growth rate. Finally, suggestions were put forth to serve as a reference for the industry in order to gain an insight into themachine tool and component industry and ensure its continuity. Through the “the systematization of the trade competitiveness analysis model”, Taiwan’s and Korea’s machine tool and component industry’s trade conditions in China from 2000 to 2010 were quantified to facilitate the comparison and assessment. The study explored Taiwan’s and Korea’s machine tool and component industries from the perspective of the trade amount, ratio, and growth rate. The overall relative competiveness and the relative competitiveness of products were the two perspectives adopted for analysis and comparison. Based on these indicator results, the empirical results from the observations during the statistical period show: 1. The machine tool and component industry of Taiwan showed a downward trend in terms of ratio and growth rate, while Korea’ ratio and growth rate achieved more stable growth. 2. China’s machine tool imports from Taiwan were ignorantly lower than its overall imports, and the ratio also showed a decrease. Relatively, the machine tool imports from Korea achieved more stable growth in terms of ratio. 3. China’s component imports from Taiwan in dollar amounts showed an upward trend in all the years, except for 2008 and 2009. On the other hand, the component imports from Korea maintained a yearly increase trend and the amount increased to USD426 million, exceeding Taiwan’s USD 385million. 4. Although Taiwan's machine tool (HS8456~8463) and component (HS8466、HS8482、HS8483) industry achieved higher in ratio and trade amount in China market compared to Korea’s industry, the statistics are declining every year. On the other hand, Korea’s industry achieved stable annual growth, indicating Taiwan's declining competitiveness and poorer performance compared to Korea. Taiwan has a very solid basis of ICT industry. Almost all the industrial clusters of Export Processing Zone(EPZ) are also ICT related industries. To the end of 2016, the Kaohsiung Export Processing Zone’s (KEPZ’s) major cluster industries are LCD and IC. There are 34 firms in the Zone. The LCD and IC industries’ investment amounts occupies 70% of the KEPZ’s total investment, the turnover 65.54%. Amoug them, IC industry occupies 41% of KEPZ’s total investment amount, turnover 33.3%; LCD industry occupies 18% of KEPZ’s total investment amount, turnover 25.8%. Therefore, the future development trend influences both the EPZ and Kaohsiung city future developments heavily. The domestic empirical researches of EPZ are almost partial to the directions of regional ecomonic industrial structure transformation and production performance, rarely to be directed to EPZ, especially to it’s one single park, to discuss and analysis ’s export competitiveness. In order to understand the changes of KEPZ’s export competitiveness, this paper firstly explores it’s most importmant electrical industry export growth rate, and then discuss it’s export conditions. After that, focusing on KEPZ’s important export countries(six major foreign markets)by Revealed Comparative Advantage Index(RCAi)and The Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System(HS code), points export volume to measure KEPZ’s changes of export competitiveness between 2007 to 2016. The paper found that, the empirical proof of KEPZ’s electrical industry’s six major export markets(Japan, US, China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore)export competitiveness are all weak grades, no matter what HS chap84,85 or 90 industries. The reason are the KEPZ’s firm’s scale is too small, lack of the effect of economic scale, and thus, lead to the shortcoming of customer concerntration and transnational customer order’s adjustments. This paper suggests some points to government and firms: 1. The shortage of factory buildings and lands: firstly, renew the old buildings by turnover bases model, that eans build new ones in other land, move in band finally tear down the old ones. It can reach three goals in one time,introduce new industries, upgrade land useage and accelerate KEPZ’ renewal. It can also raise the maintaining costs of land and factory of the no-effect usage firms,thus, they are more willingly to release the idle spaces. Consquently, the other fiems can obtain production lands and promote the usage efficiency of lands and factory buildings. 2. Indusry upgrade and transformation: the operational funds can offer some proportion of funds to encourage the firms to buy some modern production lines, innovation processing or product R&D. It can provide the firms incentives of upgradings and transformations. 3. The investment recruiting strategies: the government can plan every professional park uniformly, provide every industrial park package measures, such as public construction plannings, handlings of waste water and salvaged materials, export and import Customs clearance and so on. Therefore, provide more convenient solutions for investors’ options.

The automotive industry is a key national economic indicator, with auto parts as the main supporting industry, since it manufactures and modifies components. Large numbers of car owners would like to do modifications, making cars run faster, et al. in accordance with their own preferences: i.e., customizing their own cars. The Annual 2012 exhibition of Automobiles components modification ended in April, in Taipei, this exhibition not only to show Taiwan's manufacturing automotive components’ abilities, it also shown the varieties of automobiles modification parts, it only has four exhibitions a year in different countries in global. From here, you will know how powerful strength of abilities in automotive components industry in Taiwan. In view of this, this investigation focuses on the BMW and BENZ modified components industry, to explore its industrial strengths and weaknesses, competitive factors, manufacturing strategy, customer satisfaction and business key factors based on five forces analysis and SWOT analysis for the research main ideas. According on the underlying assumptions, to verify the true or false of the assumptions with the empirical of this study. In this study, based on modified components industry in Taiwan, we have made total 17 questionnaires, chosen from 14 upstream, midstream, and downstream manufacturers, three consumer groups in Taiwan. Extracted from the various dimensions of the main factors through in-depth interviews, and strengthen the reliability and validity of each dimension. Analysis the interactive effect verifications of each dimension. The results showed that: 1. The BMW and BENZ automobiles are quite complete in modification components of the automotive industrial structure of the supply chain in Taiwan. Such a huge demand for this situation, the manufacturers are constantly developing new products, a broader marketing to the world. 2. Learned the BMW and BENZ automobiles with modified components within the industry, competitive advantages and disadvantages of the external and internal, how the business owner to reduce the disadvantage of damage in Taiwan, Thereby increasing self-competitive advantage, In addition, In the case of continuous improvement of quality through a number of certified, whether it is midstream, downstream manufacturers or consumer groups all follow the purchase of oriented by manufactured goods from Taiwan. 3. Abstract:

The capability of continuously producing good quality products with high productivity and low cost is critical for manufacturers. Generally, products are made up of components, which enable the product to perform its purpose. A complex product may be assembled from many components through multiple assembly stages. Any quality defects in a component may build up in the product. A good understanding of how the quality of components impacts the quality of products in a complex manufacturing system is essential for keeping the competitiveness of a manufacturer.

In this research, a series of quality management models are proposed based on studying the relationship between component quality and product quality. Optimal quality control leads to increased competitiveness of a manufacturer, since it helps reduce cost, increase production, and limit environmental impact. The research starts from studying the tolerance allocation problem, which is fundamental of managing the tradeoff between quality, productivity, cost, and waste. First, a tolerance allocation method that minimizes cost is proposed. This model jointly considers process variation and tolerance specifications. The relation between manufacturer, user, design, and processing are embedded in the cost model. To solve the tolerance allocation problem from the root cause, i.e., the variations in production processes, a second tolerance allocation model is then provided. This model considers both product design (tolerance selection) and operation planning (or production rate selection). Relations among production rate, production cost, processing precision, and waste are considered. Furthermore, a new process control model that extends traditional statistical process control techniques is proposed. Data acquired from a manufacturing system are usually in the forms of time series, and anomalies in the time series are generally related to quality defects. A new method that can detect anomalies in time series data with long length and high dimensionality is developed. This model is based on recurrent neural networks, and the parameters of the neural networks can be trained using data acquired during routine operation of a manufacturing system. This is very beneficial because often, there are few data labeled as anomalies, since anomalies are hopefully rare events in a well-managed system. Last, quality control of remanufacturing is studied. A component-oriented reassembly model is proposed to manage the varied quality of returned component and varied needs of customers. In this model, returned components are inspected and assigned scores according to their quality/function, and categorized in a reassembly inventory. Based on the reassembly inventory, components are paired under the control of a reassembly strategy. A reassembly-score iteration algorithm is developed to identify the optimal reassembly strategy. The proposed model can reassemble products to meet a larger variety of customer needs, while simultaneously producing better remanufactured products.

In summary, this dissertation presents a series of novel quality management models to keep manufacturers’ competitiveness. These models are based on studying factors that impact component and product quality at multiple stages of a product life cycle. It was found that analyzing the relationship between component and product quality is a very effective way of improving product quality, saving cost, and reducing environmental impact of manufacturing.

Through the related secondary data, such as the visit of "A" corporation, collections of sealing elements and several literatures to investigate the other related theories of semiconductor distributors, diversification strategies and sealing elements. According to these information and data, we get four main results of this research. First, sealing elements still have considerable gross margin in low-profit era of semiconductor, by selling single sealing element products can get the profits to keep a corporation's operations. We guess the authority of mainland China improve the quality of human resources by investing education. Another known from city competitiveness of contribute degree was highest. So we suggest the authority of mainland China to develop in west region, if it could increase “Investment in Industrial Fixed Assets” and “Investment in Infrastructure”, then it will promote function for location about whole competitiveness. The South African automotive sector is often plagued with complex and competitive business challenges owing to globalisation, economic uncertainty and fluctuating market demands. These challenges prompt business leaders in South Africa to improve their operations and to enhance innovations in processes, products and services in a very reactive manner. Literature shows that one such initiative that can assist the automotive sector to compete with the rest of the world where productivity, quality and operational costs reduction are crucial for economic success is the adoption of the integrated Lean Six Sigma tool. The automotive sector, which purports to be at the forefront of best industry manufacturing practices in South Africa, is certainly lacking in this area. The purpose of this thesis was to assess Lean and Six Sigma techniques as standalone systems, the integration of Lean and Six Sigma as a unified approach to continuous improvement and to develop a proposed Lean Six Sigma framework for the automotive component manufacturing organisations in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), South Africa. Due to the nature and complexity of this project, it was decided to adopt the action-based research strategy and include both qualitative and quantitative techniques. Two hypotheses were formulated to guide the research. The study was confined to the greater Durban region in KZN, which formed the target population of forty two organisations within the Durban Automotive Cluster (DAC). A survey questionnaire was designed in measurable format to gather practical information from the sample organisations on the status of their existing business improvement programs and quality practices. This information was necessary to critique the sample organisations for Lean and Six Sigma requirements and compare it to the literature in terms of the KZN context. A pilot study was conducted with senior management at five automotive manufacturing organisations to determine if the participants encountered any problems in answering the questionnaire and if the methodology adopted would meet the objectives of this project. The results of the pilot study indicated high reliability scores which were sustainable for the main study. The survey questionnaire was reviewed by Lean and Six Sigma Experts, Academics and members of the DAC executive team to ensure the validity of the questionnaire to the KZN context. The logistics of the main study followed a similar format as the pilot study and the questionnaires were distributed within the DAC over a three month period. A census sample was used in the field study to collect primary data. A response rate of 75% was achieved. The results of the empirical findings revealed that the sample organisations had a very low success rate of Lean and Six Sigma adoption as standalone systems. The sample organisations only practiced certain Lean and Six Sigma tools and techniques as they found it difficult to maintain the complete transition from theory to practice. The synergies that emerged from the study of Lean and Six Sigma that affect manufacturing performance suggested that they complemented and supported each other by tailoring the deficiencies to the given environment. This information was translated into practical considerations for constructing the proposed Lean Six Sigma framework from a KZN perspective. The conclusion of the main study was that if an organisation wants improvement to happen on an ongoing basis, it needs to recognise that there are significant interactions between their management system and the improvement technique. When the organisations understand the characteristics of the environment in which they operate, they will be able to configure appropriate follow up processes to sustain their management systems. The study demonstrated that Lean Six Sigma integration repackages the stronger focus areas of Lean and Six Sigma to create its own unique approach on improving an organisation’s performance. It is anticipated that organisations which implement the proposed Lean Six Sigma framework could contribute significantly to the growth of the South African economy in terms of increased productivity, improved international competition and job creation. The value of this research is that the proposed Lean Six Sigma framework affords the KZN automotive sector a unique opportunity to create its own brand of quality that compliments its management style and industry demands. Future research should focus on testing the applicability of the proposed Lean Six Sigma framework in a real case scenario to ensure that the critical outcomes are adequately ingrained to achieve perceived organisational performance. Lastly, it is recommended that a list of performance evaluators is developed and follow up procedures to monitor the progress of the Lean Six Sigma technique is implemented.

EN : The work is presented on 105 pages of printed text, contains 22 tables, 25 figures, 11 annex. The list of referеnces includes 77 sources, 10 of them in foreign languages. The object of the study is the competitiveness of the company PJSC «AselorMittal Kryviy Rih». The purpose of the qualification work is to substantiate theoretical provisions and to develop practical recommendations for improving and managing the competitiveness of the enterprise in the financial aspect of PJSC «AselorMittal Kryviy Rih». Objectives: 1) identify the factors and factors that affect the competitiveness of the enterprise, as well as assessment methods and promotion strategies; 2) analyze the financial and economic activities and economic indicators of the enterprise of PJSC “AselorMittal Kryviy Rih”; 3) to determine the level of competitiveness of the enterprise on the basis of valuation methods; 4) to develop ways of increasing the competitiveness of AselorMittal Kryviy Rih PJSC. Research methods: logical generalization, quantitative and qualitative analyzes, deductive, financial-economic and statistical analysis, comparison, summary. The obtained results and their novelty: for the first time: the method of evaluation of the components of increasing the competitiveness of the enterprise of PJSC “AselorMittal Kryviy Rih” was applied, the matrix was constructed and expert evaluation was carried out; acquired further development: interpretation of the category “competitiveness”; methodical assessment of the level of competitiveness of the enterprise. Thus, the paper considers theoretical and methodological approaches to the definition of the concept of «enterprise competitiveness», assesses the competitiveness of the enterprise, suggests ways to improve competitiveness of the enterprise. In the qualification work, all the scientific results of the study were obtained by the author personally. In this paper presents the author's approach to studying the competitiveness of an enterprise The recommendations of increasing the competitiveness of the company PJSC «AselorMittal Kryviy Rih» are of practical importance.

Taiwan's bicycle industry has developed for decades. As it established complete production system, Taiwan has become one of the most important and competitive Bicycle Component Suppliers in the worldwide bicycle market. For energy saving and carbon emission reducing, the usage of bicycle extends from short-distance-riding to ‎leisure and entertainment. Through the Government's development strategy and the interactive model from bicycle industry chain, this paper investigates bicycle component suppliers for how to innovate new operations, and ‎how to cooperate with bicycle component suppliers and bike shop to enhance their competitiveness and profit. This study wants to research by choosing Bicycle Component Suppliers’ key factors via Delphi Technique and deep interview. After three times of questionnaire investigations, the results are conducted from experts’ opinions. This research, through Delphi Technique Method and the deep interview with the employees in the industry chain, reach a conclusion of key factors to increase profit such as to provide real-time delivery service, to order for special specifications components, the employees can install and operate all kinds of parts, customer service can solve the problem in shortest time, and to accept return of the rejected goods and process fast RMA. Hope the results could help the bicycle industry to increase profit and opportunities.

O sector do turismo está em grande crescimento a nível mundial e, paralelamente, verifica-se um grande crescimento da competitividade entre os destinos. A existência no destino de uma componente primária bastante atractiva não implica, necessariamente, que este seja competitivo em relação aos outros; é importante que o destino possua infra-estruturas, equipamentos e serviços (componente secundária) que complementem a componente primária com vista à garantia da atracção, satisfação e bem-estar dos turistas. Uma vez desenvolvida e consolidada a componente secundária do destino, este poderá ter uma grande vantagem competitiva e reputação a nível global. Sendo o Município de Inhambane (MI), um dos principais destinos turísticos de Moçambique e igualmente por ser considerado pelo governo moçambicano uma Área Prioritária para Investimentos Turísticos, a presente pesquisa tem como objectivo principal avaliar a influência da componente secundária existente no MI (alojamento, restauração-associada às unidades de alojamento, serviços de lazer e transporte) na sua competitividade no contexto do turismo internacional. Com vista à prossecução do objectivo referenciado, a pesquisa foi levada a cabo com recurso a métodos científicos usados nas pesquisas em ciências sociais, e neste sentido recorreu-se à: 1) pesquisa bibliográfica sobre o tema em análise e às entrevistas exploratórias dirigidas a profissionais especializados de diversas instituições públicas e privadas que operam directamente no sector do turismo no MI ou em sectores auxiliares, com vista a obtenção de informações úteis para o desenvolvimento da pesquisa e; 2) à aplicação de inquéritos aos turistas, à comunidade local e aos operadores turísticos como forma de conhecer-se a suas percepções em relação ao desenvolvimento da actividade turística no MI e em relação à sua satisfação no concernente a componente secundária do MI. Os resultados obtidos indicam que, de forma global, o turismo no MI apresenta tendências de crescimento e em relação à componente secundária, concluiu-se que esta é internacionalmente competitiva na medida em que a sua actual quantidade e qualidade gera a satisfação das necessidades dos turistas das diferentes nacionalidades que visitam o destino. Apesar deste resultado, verificou-se a necessidade de melhoria da qualidade da componente secundária do MI com vista ao aumento do seu grau de satisfação por parte do público.
The tourism sector is growing worldwide and in parallel there is a large growth of competitiveness between destinations. The existence in the destination of a very attractive primary component does not mean by itself that it is competitive in relation to the others; it is important that the destination has infrastructures, equipment and services (secondary component) that complement the primary component with a view to ensuring the attractiveness, satisfaction and welfare of tourists. Once developed and consolidated the secondary component, the destination will be able to have a major globally competitive advantage and reputation. Inhambane Municipality (IM) as one of the main tourist destinations in Mozambique and is also considered by the Mozambican government a Priority Area for Tourism Investments. This research aims to evaluate the influence of the existing secondary component in IM (accommodation, catering associated to housing units, leisure services and Shuttle Service) on the destination competitiveness in the context of international tourism. In order to achieve the mentioned objective, the research was carried out using the scientific methods used in social science research, and so, were used: 1) literature on the subject in analysis and exploratory interviews addressed to the professionals from different public and private institutions operating directly in the tourism sector in IM or complementary sectors in order to obtain useful information for development of the research and; 2) Application of surveys to tourists, to local community and tour operators in order to know their perceptions regarding the development of tourism in IM and in relation to its satisfaction concerning to the secondary component. The results indicate that, generaly, tourism in IM presents growth trends and in relation to secondary component, it was concluded that this is internationally competitive because its current quantity and quality generates satisfaction and reach the tourists needs of different nationalities who visit the destination. Despite that, there is the need to improve the quality of IM secondary component in order to increase their degree of satisfaction from the public.
