Abstract:
Imagine you are asked in an academic meeting to name three or four prominent Spanish composers in the field of the string quartet. How many would you be able to cite? You might be tempted to answer that the quartet was in fact hardly cultivated in Spain, or you might perhaps wonder whether Boccherini could be taken to be a ‘Spanish’ composer. These potential responses to this fictional situation encapsulate well two of the historiographical preconceptions that have governed our view of this area, the first of which is, to put it in Friedhelm Krummacher's words, that Spanish composers ‘adopted a particularly abstinent attitude’ towards the genre (‘sich . .

Abstract:
This study investigated the ethnic musical elements of Andalusia, southern Spain, reflected in Turina’s piano dance pieces. Turina integrated the traditional music style and impressionism music technique in Paris with the national music of Andalusia, implementing it in piano music. Turina, a composer who occupies a major position in Spanish nationalist piano music, produced the most piano works of any Spanish composers of his time. The dance suite, a large portion of his piano work list, preserves the identity of flamenco as a complex art with dance, a representative music of the Andalusia, and recreates it within the framework of traditional European music. This study analyzed Andalusian national music elements in Turina’s piano dance pieces by dividing into melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic elements. Turina’s piano dance have gained musical universality by fusion with the mainstream music trends of Western Europe beyond the limits of Andalusia, Spain.

During the latter half of the nineteenth century, the countries of Central America incorporated European musicians into their state-generated projects. Administrations from Guatemala to Costa Rica appointed composers from Italy, Germany, Belgium, and Spain to help stimulate national musical culture and education, giving them leadership roles in state institutions. Belgian composer and conductor Alejandro Cousin arrived in the late 1850s and spent the rest of his life in El Salvador and Nicaragua where he established the national military band. This article, in the form of an obituary, sheds light on his noteworthy artistic legacy in Central America.

Centenary celebrations are being held between 2016 and 2018 to mark the first consecutive tours of Diaghilev's Ballets Russes in Spain. This study analyses the Spanish reception of Le Sacre du Printemps (The Rite of Spring) (1913), one of its most avant-garde pieces. Although the original work was never performed in Spain as a complete ballet, its influence was felt deeply in the work of certain Spanish choreographers, composers, painters and intellectuals during the so-called Silver Age, the period of modernisation and cultural expansion which extended from the end of the nineteenth century to the beginning of the Spanish Civil War.

Abstract:
This article examines the development of Wagnerism in late-nineteenth-century Spain, focusing on how it became an integral part of Catalan nationalism. The reception of Wagner's music and ideas in Spain was determined by the country's uneven economic development and the weakness of its musical and political institutions—the same weaknesses that were responsible for the rise of Catalan nationalism. Lack of a symphonic culture in Spain meant that audiences were not prepared to comprehend Wagner's complexity, but that same complexity made Wagner's ideas acceptable to Spanish reformers who saw in the composer an exemplar of the European ideas needed to fix Spanish problems. Thus, when Wagner's operas were first staged in Spain, the Teatro Real de Madrid stressed Wagner's continuity with operas of the past; however, critics and audiences engaged with the works as difficult forms of modern music. The rejection of Wagner in the Spanish capital cleared the way for his ideas to be adopted in Catalonia. A similar dynamic occurred as Spanish composers tried to meld Wagner into their attempts to build a nationalist school of opera composition. The failure of Tomás Bréton's Los amantes de Teruel and Garín cleared the way for Felip Pedrell's more successful theoretical fusion of Wagnerism and nationalism. While Pedrell's opera Els Pirineus was a failure, his explanation of how Wagner's ideals and nationalism could be fused in the treatise Por nuestra música cemented the link between Catalan culture and Wagnerism.

Abstract:
"Modern jazz can be considered an equal part of modern music, owing to the numerous experiments, at times considered strange or not really agreed by the audience. When talking about modern musical life and the possibilities for making music in a proper manner, no doubt that the value and genius of composers like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart or Ludwig van Beethoven must be recognized. However, one must also realize that modern life, with its modern, contemporary music is also needed. The great jazz saxophonist, Charlie Parker considered improvisation the middle of the earth, the place where, if only for a few brief moments, one can be the best and the greatest composer in the world. Furthermore, the idea of a song (theme) is the only reason for musicians to come and elaborate together, with variational spontaneity, a unique and maybe unrepeatable musical manifestation. The works of Chick Corea reflect this point of view, as the analysis of the work Spain (1972), discussed in the article bellow, will demonstrate. The work represents the fusion between Spanish music and the compositional methods of modern jazz music, reflecting Corea’s unique style. Improvisation lies at the basis of this composition, offering the musician a multitude of possibilities for expressing his ideas regarding freedom and human nature. Keywords: jazz, piano improvisation, spontaneity, creativity, harmonical knowledge, contemporary "

Abstract:
AbstractThe fall of Communist rule in Eastern Europe (1989–91) had a profound impact on economic, socio-political, and cultural conditions in Cuba during the 1990s. It was the beginning of the so-called ‘Special Period in Times of Peace’. Increasing dire economic conditions on the island led to many changes that impoverished cultural life, including the relocation of composers in Europe, the United States, and other countries in the Americas. The situations encountered by composers who migrated to Europe varied, depending on generational differences and on the dynamics of the socio-political and cultural powers to which each of them were exposed in their new reception contexts. Whether adopting an uncontested identification with the new cultural milieu or resorting to discursive strategies of appropriation and de/re-territorialized negotiation, this text centres on the compositional journeys of four Cuban composers who settled in different European cities: Leo Brouwer (Córdoba, Spain); Eduardo Morales-Caso (Madrid); Keyla Orozco (Amsterdam); and Louis Aguirre (Aalborg, Denmark). Each case represents an invaluable experience of aesthetic reconstruction in a new creative territory that, by its own transterritoriality, has in turn enriched the sonic map of the Caribbean island.

Abstract:
In this present work, I explore the rise of zarzuela and opera as cultural expressions in both Spain and Spanish America and their relationships to the societies in which they were produced. My research will show that zarzuela and opera became a new space from which to promote a Hispanic musical tradition and to imagine and express the essence of the Hispanic nation, conceived of transnationally, but fundamentally tied to Spain. I specifically study works of Hispanic literature that were rewritten as libretti for performance. The works chosen for this project are La Monja Alférez by Carlos Coello and Miguel Marqués, Pepita Jiménez by Francis Burdett Money-Coutts and Isaac Albéniz, Tabaré by Tomás Breton, Cecilia Valdés by Agustín Rodríguez, José Sánchez-Arcilla, and Gonzalo Roig, and, finally, Adiós a la bohemia by Pío Baroja and Pablo Sorozábal. Librettists and composers working in collaboration searched for a suitable literary medium to express national essence through musical drama. Therefore, the original literature used as the foundations for zarzuela or opera varies from works of Golden Age theater, prose narrative or the novel, epic poetry, the colonial novel, and the short story. Furthermore, in the works chosen, specific themes relevant to the nation are addressed, such as gender, national identity, history and colonialism, race, and modernity. In addition to examining how artistic works are transformed when modified from one genre (the literary) to another (the musical) within a new cultural context, I use a sociological approach to investigate the unique collaborations between writers, librettists, and composers in the creation of these musical-dramatic works. As spectacles produced for mass audiences, I also employ performance theory to understand how meaning is constructed through performance. Integral to my study is a discussion of how these artistic creations traversed national boundaries and moved across the Atlantic. The temporal bo

Abstract: In this work, we have performed an Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) study in intermetallic compounds including the heavy fermions ?-YbAlB4, ?-YbAlB4 and ? -YbAlxFe1-xB4, the Fermi liquid metals ?-LuAlB4, AlB2 and the Kondo insulator, FeSi. Our measurements were made on a spectrometer Bruker CW-model ELEXSYS using a resonant cavity TE102 in X Band ( ?~ 9.4GHz). The Electron Spin Resonance technique applied to heavy fermions compounds was little explored due to difficulty in finding ESR signal of Kondo ions due to the large coupling between the resonating spins and conduction electrons. However, in recent years this technique has become focus of great attention especially after the discovery of the ESR signal in a Kondo lattice YbRh2Si2. In this context, ESR was brought to the scene as one of the main techniques to bring insights to this problem since it could probe directly the f electrons of Kondo ions and their interaction with the conduction electrons. The motivation of this work is to use the ESR technique to investigate new heavy fermions compounds and to understand when these systems can present an ESR signal. In these cases ESR can help to understand more deeply how localized f electrons at high-T evolve to itinerant heavy quasi-particles in a low-T metallic state. Our observations for ?-YbAlB4, -YbAlB4 and ?-YbAlxFe1-xB4, allowed us to make some qualitative speculations about this phenomenon and within this scenario, we propose some general characteristics for heavy fermions compounds to become candidates to present ESR signal. In this work we have also measured ?-LuAlB4, AlB2 and the Kondo insulator, FeSi, in an attempt to generalize the ESR results found for ?-YbAlB4, ?-YbAlB4 and ?-YbAlxFe1-xB4 to a more broad family of compounds

Abstract:

Abstract: We show that the temperature dependence of the in-plane and c-axis resitivities between 100K and 300K for the acceptor AlCl3 - Graphite Intercalated Compounds can be obtained from the analysis of the intensity and lineshape of the resonance in a conduction carrier spin resonance experiment. The results suggest a metallic and thermal activated hopping like character for the in-plane and c-axis charge transport respectively. The analysis of the resonance for pure graphite gives, within the experimental accuracy, the expected temperature dependence for the in-plane and c-axis resistivities, and an almost temperature independent Pauli paramagnetic susceptibility. The temperature dependence of the linewidth is attributed to the dependence of both the carrier s mobility and the ratio between the transition probability for spin-flip due to spin-orbit coupling and the coulomb scattering. For stage one and seven the resonance parameters reveal a phase transition at 210K and 168K respectively

Abstract:

Abstract:

In this work the structural and thermomagnetic properties of the pseudobinaries Ho1-yGdyAl2 have been studied by experimental and theoretical approaches. The experimental part included the preparation of five samples, with concentrations y = 0, 0,25, 0,5, 0,75 and 1, as well as magnetization, specific heat and adiabatic temperature change measurements. In the theoretical part we used a model Hamiltonian which includes the interaction of the ions with the applied magnetic field, the crystalline electrical field and exchange interactions with others magnetic ions. The lattice entropy has been considered within Debyes approach and the electronic entropy as that of a free electron gas. The spin reorientation influence, spontaneous and magnetic field induced ones, in magnetization and specific heat has been systematically investigated either from experimental data as well as theoretically. We have also obtained theoretical results for the isothermal entropy change and the adiabatic temperature change by modifying either the magnetic field strength or its direction.

Abstract:
The Spanish National Society of Music was founded in 1915 with a double objective: first, to define, once and for all, the musical identity of the country; and second, to create a space where composers and musicians could develop their artistic careers. In this sense, both the society's self-denomination as »national,« and its apparent integrating nature suggest a clear attempt to democratize Spanish music. However, the present paper shows that the reality was completely different. Yet, by analyzing the society's internal ideology, by describing its policy for selecting the repertoire of the concerts, and by examining its actual social impact, David Ferreiro Carballo demonstrates that the National Society of Music was a non-democratic institution with an elitist understanding of the art. This reality strongly contrasts its typically idealized conception and will allow the reader to understand its disappearance in 1922, after only seven seasons of activity.

There are basically five ways that the Romeros have added new works to the guitar repertoire: commissioning, composing, arranging, reviving, or improvising them. They have requested works from leading composers in Spain and the U.S.; composed works, mostly by Celedonio for solo guitar; arranged numerous orchestral and stage works for quartet; revived neglected classics, especially from the 1800s; and improvised flamenco numbers, as well as adding flourishes to notated music.

Abstract:
This chapter discusses the hymnographic developments in Spain. Although the Andalusians adopted much of the prevailing culture, their Arabism was tempered by the reality of being exiled from their national home. The degree to which Arabism was pervasive is seen in the Andalusians’ attempt to adapt Arabic-style quantitative metrics for use in their writings for the synagogue. They also composed their piyyuṭim in the prevailing styles of Arabic prosody, the qaṣīdah, a monorhyme hymn in metrically balanced hemistichs, and muwashshaḥ, a hymn where the rhyme is variable in the strophes and constant in the refrain. Distinctive in the Hispanic piyyuṭ is the poet’s signature in the acrostic. Although the Hispanic synagogue poets composed in most of the older genres, they added some unique features. However, a change in the fortunes of Iberian Jewry in the latter half of the twelfth century resulted from the invasions of the Muslim Almoravids and Almohades. With the Christian reconquest, the earlier courtly life and culture came to an end. The celebrated Andalusian poets became vagabonds and their grandee patrons were replaced by an emerging middle class. The new cantor-poets, sensitive to the more modest needs of their constituents, fashioned a conservative tone in liturgical writing.

Abstract:
This chapter addresses French-American composer Betsy Jolas’s L’Œil égaré (1961–2002), a powerful cycle written over a wide span of years. In this piece, the composer’s bold, innovative spirit bursts from every page. A welter of technical, musical, and interpretative challenges are offered, but these should not daunt advanced singers with a high standard of musicianship. The six short settings are full of contrasts within a richly diverse stylistic palette. There is, however, a keen awareness of practicality regarding the baritone range—the few instances of upper and lower extremes are approached either via portamentos or loud climaxes when energy level is high. Each movement is vivid enough to be performed individually. The texts resonate with colourful imagery. To sing in the original language is, of course, ideal, but the composer’s translations are impressive in managing to preserve their heightened lyricism and searching insights, as well as matching small subtleties of syllabic emphasis.

Abstract:
At the turn of the twentieth century, Spanish workers arrived in the United States already imbued with radical traditions rooted in the socialism or anarchism of their homeland. These radicals would play a critical role in the broader antifascist political efforts of the coming years during the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939) and the Francisco Franco dictatorship (1939–1975). About two hundred workers’ and immigrant associations came together under the Sociedades Hispanas Confederadas (Confederation of Hispanic Societies, SHC) and published the bilingual periodical España Libre (Free Spain) in New York from 1939 to 1977, when democratic elections were held again in Spain. The confederation grew to 65,000 members at its height. Mainly composed by workers, the Confederadas understood Spanish fascism as a complex and adapting interlocking of fascist, extreme-right, and capitalist values. Franco fascistized Spain with a culture of National Catholicism and cult of military power that enforced social cleansing of dissenters and terrorized the population. España Libre continued an antifascist, progressive, and radical political and cultural legacy in the United States while Franco intended to destroy it in Spain. It constituted an alternative progressive path to modernity, albeit an exiled one.

Abstract:
The current insolvency legislation is the result of a long and cumbersome evolution. It was approved on 7 July 2003 (Ley 22/2003, the Insolvency Act 2003 (‘IA’)) and came into force on 1 September 2004, putting an end to one of the most embarrassing situations that the Spanish legal system has ever had to endure: coming into the 21st century with an insolvency legislation dating back to the beginning of the 19th century. The previous insolvency system was composed of as many as five different legal instruments: the Commercial Codes (Codigo de Comercio) of 1885 and 1829 (only partially in force) and the Law on Suspension of Payments of 1922 (Ley de Suspension de Pagos), which regulated some procedural aspects and all material aspects of commercial insolvency; the Civil Code of 1889, which regulated the insolvency of the general—non-commercial—debtor; and the Civil Procedural Law, dating from 1881 (Ley de Enjuiciamiento civil ). It can then be said that the insolvency of a large business in a developed European economy (the fifth largest in the EU) had to be solved with laws that dated from two centuries before. The reform has been a relief and it has greatly modernised Spain’s economic legal legal framework. However, this process was neither easy nor did it produce a fully satisfactory result.

Abstract:
This chapter discusses the Beata L’Alma, a short but compelling cantata by David Blake. This is a piece that adheres strictly to the discipline of twelve-tone composition, yet manages to create within it an infinite variety of brilliantly intricate and satisfying writing for both voice and piano. Though the idiom may seem challenging at first, it eventually brings the rewards of enhanced technical prowess and an improved level of musicianship. An excitingly elaborate piano part reflects the fact that the composer is an excellent pianist. In addition, there is much scope for creating a variety of imaginative vocal timbres, and passages of dramatic tension are contrasted by lyrical phrases that use the voice's fullest range. The work is through-composed in one long span, and a piano solo divides the text's two stanzas. Standard notation is mostly used (without key signatures).

La Florida Bridge is a €5,9 million project promoted by Oviedo City Council to provide a new link between “La Florida” and “Western Park” neighbourhoods. The final design, developed by Arenas & Asociados, represents an innovation in urban bridges, solving the connection between both areas with a flying semi-circle roundabout suspended from its inner edge by a system of hangers.<p> The main novelty of this solution is that hangers and backstays are fixed to the same suspension system, composed by two main cables making a loop and anchored to an articulated mast. The structure is completed with a post-tensioned concrete approach viaduct, a composite connection span between roundabout and viaduct, two cantilever footbridges arising from the concrete deck and flying parallel to the roundabout, and finally, a concrete ring as counterweight for the backstays anchorage. Based Entity and Relation Transformer).

Abstract:
<p>New urban developments are changing the traditional footbridges by contemplating (i) the new cyclic functionality of these structures, (ii) the wood and other light structural materials and, in many cases, (iii) the introduction of aesthetics. Previous studies were made on pedestrian footbridges composed by a simple supported beam with uniform distributed characteristics. The main objective of these past projects was to pass pedestrians across, safe and comfortably, with minimal cost of construction, without much aesthetics.</p><p>Nowadays, footbridges appeal to the best architects and engineering consortiums and each new one is viewed as entering in an aesthetic contest. The objective now is similar as referred before but, besides adding the cycling vehicles, they should look into aesthetics and to the environmental context. They span larger distances making use of more adequate materials. However, the dynamic characteristics might be a problem due to proximity of frequencies of the structure with the rhythm of the stepping of crossing. This is the objective of this paper to understand if more complex geometries and different materials pose problems. After looking into several cases in Portugal and Spain and, describing their main geometric and mechanical characteristics, the most important frequencies of vibration and amplitude of oscillation for various loadings were analyzed. Caution should be exercised to not excite resonance conditions. A case study of one of these structures is analysed in detail for deterministic conditions. Cycling is not a problem.</p>

Abstract:
Abstract This paper presents an analytical and experimental investigation on the dynamic behavior of the band/wheel mechanical system of an industrial metal-cutting band saws. In practice, as a result of the existence of the wheel tilt angle, a pair of roller bearings in which one of them is movable must be employed to twist the saw band perpendicular to the workpiece. Therefore, the saw band is modelled as a finite moving beam span that composes of three consecutive segments, in which the middle segment, that is, the cutting span, and the neighboring two segments may be assumed to be a straight and a twisted beams, respectively. The deformation of the band must satisfy the continuity condition at the connections between segments. The equations of motion governing the dynamic behavior of the beam span in axial, torsional and transverse directions are derived using mixed variational principle. The axial motion of the beam span couples linearly with its torsional motion. The dynamic responses and the natural frequencies of the beam are computed when parameters vary, such as the transport velocity of the saw band, band tension, wheel tilt angle, and the length of the cutting span. Finally, an experimental study is performed on an industrial band saw for the verification of the mathematical model and the predictive capability proposed in this investigation. Favorable comparisons between the analytical and experimental results are obtained.

The length and width of the trough girder are respectively 6.6 m and 5.7 m. It is designed for a narrow-gauge track and two walkways. The trough is composed of two prefabricated elements in UHPFRC with steel reinforcement bars. These elements are first built in the plant and then are assembled on site by a longitudinal cast-in-place joint.</p><p>The challenges and the experiences in this project are discussed and analysed in view of future projects. Furthermore, the full-scale suitability tests to validate the joint between the two prefabricated elements are described. Abstract:
<p>This contribution describes two concepts for lightweight bending-active footbridges, and the corresponding experimental prototypes made of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPFRC). The first prototype (bending- active bow-string concept) has a span length of 5.4 m and is composed of a thin UHPFRC prestressed slab, a UHPFRC deviator and stainless-steel tensioning cables. The second prototype (bending-active lenticular beam concept) has a span length of 6.2 m and is composed of two lateral lenticular beams and thin deck plates, all made of UHPFRC elements. In both prototypes, the upper structural members (the deck in the first one and the top chords of the lenticular beams in the second one) have been bent in the longitudinal direction to achieve the desired structural configuration. This kind of structure is referred to as bending-active in the literature; it combines the advantages of easy manufacturing (flat components) and lightweight (thin members) with an increased stiffness through the final curved geometry achieved through bending. The prototypes take advantage of the capacity of UHPFRC to resist traction and bending with microcracking in service conditions. To the authors’ knowledge, these experimental footbridges are the first application of UHPFRC for bending-active structural members, demonstrating the possibility to use this material as an alternative to timber or FRP.</p>

Abstract:
A significant number of railway bridges composed by simply-supported (SS) spans are present in existing railway lines. Special attention must be paid to short to medium span length structures, as they are prone to experience high vertical acceleration levels at the deck, due to their low weight and damping, compromising the travelling comfort and the structural integrity. The accurate prediction of the dynamic response of these bridges is a complex issue since it is affected by uncertain factors such as structural damping and complex interaction mechanisms such as vehicle-bridge, soil-structure or track-bridge interaction. Concerning track-bridge interaction, experimental evidences of a dynamic coupling exerted by the ballasted track between subsequent SS spans and also between structurally independent single-track twin adjacent decks have been reported in the literature [1, 2]. Nevertheless, this phenomenon is frequently disregarded due to the computational cost of models including the track and due to the uncertainties in the mechanical parameters that define the track system. The present work contributes to the study of the coupling effect exerted by the ballasted track between independent structures in railway bridges. With this purpose two 3D finite element (FE) track-bridge interaction models are implemented. The former includes a continuous representation of the track components meshing the sleepers, ballast and sub-ballast with solid FE. In the latter, the track is represented as a 2D discrete three-layer model where the mass, stiffness and damping of the components are concentrated at the sleepers locations. The numerical models are updated with experimental measurements performed on an existing railway bridge in a view to evaluate (i) the influence of the track continuity on the bridge modal parameters and on the train-induced vibrations; (ii) the adequacy of the implemented numerical models and (iii) the importance of the track-bridge interaction for an accurate prediction of the vertical acceleration levels under operating conditions.

Abstract:
Wood or Blood? New scores and new sounds for voice and clarinet Astrid Kvalbein and Gjertrud Pedersen, Norwegian Academy of Music What is this thing called a score, and how do we relate to it as performers, in order to realize a musical work? This is the fundamental question of this exposition. As a duo we have related to scores in a variety of ways over the years: from the traditional reading and interpreting of sheet music of works by distant (some dead) composers, to learning new works in dialogue with living composers and to taking part in the creative processes from the commissioning of a work to its premiere and beyond. This reflective practice has triggered many questions: could the score for instance be conceptualized as a contract, in which some elements are negotiable and others are not? Where two equal parts, the performer(s) and the composer might have qualitatively different assignments on how to realize the music? Finally: might reflecting on such questions influence our interpretative practices? To shed light on these issues, we take as examples three works from our recent repertoire: Ragnhild Berstad’s Vevtråd (Weaving thread, 2010), Jan Martin Smørdal’s The Lesser Nighthawk (2012) and Lene Grenager’s Tre eller blod (Wood or blood, 2005). We will share – attempt to unfold – some of the experiences gained from working with this music, in close collaboration and dialogue with the composers. Observing the processes from a certain temporal distance, we see how our attitudes as a duo has developed over a longer span of time, into a more confident 'we'.

Demchyna, Bohdan, and Yaroslav Shydlovskyi. Recommendations for Designing Wooden Arches on Metal-toothed Plates. Intellectual Archive, March 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.32370/ia_2021_03_18.

Abstract:
This paper presents the findings of the pilot studies and recommendations for designing of two-hinged wooden arches. The prototype models of wooden arches with the span of 6mand the rise of 1m were designed. The models had a rectangular cross-section of 180x40mm and a T-section of 180x40mm with a plywood plate with the thickness of 6 mm and the width of 500mm. The main objective of the T-section was to ensure the stability of the arch. Each arch was composed of six segments –boards joined by clamping plates. The bowstring truss including two inclined tie bars enables carrying asymmetric loads and provides in-plane stability of the arch. A methodology for laboratory testing of the prototype models of wooden arches subjected to different types of loads was developed. Two prototypes of wooden arches were tested with rectangular cross-sections and two T-section ones subjected to the loading across the span, and two prototypes subjected to the half-span loading. In total, eight arches were tested. Deflections of arches, cross-section deformations and arch thrust force were recorded. The arches were tested until failure. The results of testing revealed insufficient stability of the arches with rectangular cross-section in the horizontal plane. For the arches with T-section the whole arch rib was damaged, the in-plane stability was ensured by the T-section. The collapsing force of the T-section arch was about 1.3 times greater than the collapsing force of the rectangular section arches.

SEGMENTED ASSEMBLY CONSTRUCTION FORMING METHOD WITHOUT BRACKETS OF SPATIAL CABLE-TRUSS STRUCTURE WITHOUT INNER RING CABLES. The Hong Kong Institute of Steel Construction, September 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.18057/ijasc.2022.18.3.6.

Full text
Abstract:
Spatial cable-truss structure without inner ring cables (SCSWIRC) is a new cable-truss tension structure (CTTS), the features of which are composed of a series of planar cable-truss frames interwoven with each other. Its anti-collapse capacity is better, but its construction forming is complex. The reasons are that the strut’s number and length will be enlarged with the span increase. Serious collision and winding of struts occur during construction due to SCSWIRC formed by a series of planar cable-truss frames interwoven with each other, which cause many difficulties in construction. According to the complex problem of construction forming, the segmented assembly construction forming method without brackets is proposed for SCSWIRC, and the basic idea of the proposed method is elaborated in detail. The SCSWIRC’s experimental model with a 6m is designed, and numerical simulation and experimental research were carried out on the experimental model. The experimental results show that the error range of the internal forces of cables and struts is 6.99%~11.58%, and displacement errors of node 1 and node 2 are 3.27mm and 3.81mm, respectively verifies the feasibility and correctness of the proposed method. Then the static and dynamic experiment is carried out based on the final formed model. The static and dynamic experiment verifies the feasibility of the final formed model, which further shows the rationality and correctness of the segmented assembly construction forming method without brackets.
