This chapter proposes a corporate sustainability evaluation framework by creating a composite index, the Perceived Sustainability Index, which integrates the company's environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) score and the consumer perception of corporate sustainability. This index uses MSCI ESG ratings and X data. The framework conceptually aligns with the multidimensional nature of sustainability, the stakeholder theory, and the customer-centric nature of companies. The index enables researchers to examine corporate sustainability from a dual perspective: the consumers and the rating agencies. It also provides companies with an indicator to progress on their sustainability journey while meeting the consumers' societal needs, which, if not met, might adversely impact the corporate reputation and, eventually, the business performance. The authors illustrate their argument by analyzing the Perceived Sustainability Index for 100 companies and then discuss three case studies – a high performer, a low performer, and a potential greenwashing.

Abstract:
This chapter aims to elaborate on the relationship between economic uncertainty and balance sheet strength of nonfinancial firms in Turkish economy. In order to effectively measure the balance sheet strength, we make use of a multivariate indicator, namely, the Multivariate Firm Assessment Score (MFA Score), which is a composite index to gauge the credit risk of nonfinancial firms quoted in Borsa İstanbul. MFA scores are compared with some uncertainty indicators for the period of 2005–2019. Our results suggest that when the uncertainties in global or Turkish economy are high, we observe a significant causal relationship from uncertainty indicators to firms’ balance sheet strength. More specifically, economic uncertainties negatively affect firms’ balance sheet performance in such an environment. Moreover, different types of uncertainties such as trade policy uncertainty and consumer perceptions about the economy are found to have differential impacts on exporter and non-exporter firms.

Abstract:
This chapter is written to explore the impact of digitalization on SDGs in G20 countries. It creates digital infrastructure index (DII) and sustainable development goal index (SDGI) as considering the digitalization and sustainable development (SD) promoting indicators during 2004 - 2022. DII and SDGI are created as employing composite Z-score method. The values of DII and SDGI are used to pronounce the comparison of G20 countries in digitalization and SD, respectively. The various forms of empirical models are adopted to assess the causal relationship between digitalization and SD. The G20 countries showed a substantial variation in digitalization and overall SDGs. Digitalization and SD showed a positive and one-way causality with each other. It is policy-oriented research and provides numerous proposals to increase digitalization and SD. This chapter develops the environmental sustainability index (ESI) global food security index (GFSI) across 34 countries in a time series of 2000 – 2021. GFSI is considered as a combination of its four components. It applied a composite Z-score method to estimate the stated indexes. It provides a cross comparison of these countries in environmental sustainability (ES) and global food security (GFS). Thereupon, causal association between ES and GFS is identified using regression equations. The statistical results imply a significant diversity in GFS and its driving indicators, and ES across countries. GFS is positively associated with ES, GFAVI, GFACI, GFSTI, and GFUTI. ES is positively associated with GFS and its other dimensions (excluding GFSTI). Trade openness, FDI and technological change, and consumption expenditure are useful to increase GFS. In this chapter, the decisive empirical results and numerous policy suggestions are presented to increase ES and GFS.

Many voices are now calling for TNCs to be effectively regulated and held accountable. One approach to strengthening corporate accountability has been the use of corporate ‘league tables’ or ‘rankings’. This involves assessing the policies and practices of TNCs and producing a quantifi

Twenty important management areas (wetlands of management concern) and reference wetlands compose the sentinel wetlands at Cuyahoga Valley National Park. These wetlands are monitored more intensively than other wetlands in the program. This is the second report in a two-part series, designed to summarize the results from intensive vegetation surveys completed at sentinel wetlands from 2008 to 2018. The first report (Bingham and Young 2023) characterized the conditions in each wetland and provided baseline reference information for other reports and site-specific projects. In this report, we ex
