As part of multiple-population breeding scheme using sub-lining system, a composite seedling seed orchard of was established at Central Java, Indonesia. The orchard comprises a combination of the best 40 plus tree families selected from four sub-lines in the first-generation of Acacia mangium progeny trial. The design of orchard is randomized complete block laid-out as four line tree-plot of six replications with a spacing of 2 x 4 meter. Variation among sub-lines and families within sub-line, and genetic parameters for height, dbh and volume were investigated at age of 24 months. The aim of t

Asymbiotic germination of immature seeds of orchids represents a valuable method for large-scale seedling production, addressing both commercial demand and the conservation of rare and endangered species. Abstract Development of the hybridization between two different species of Acacia mangium and Acacia auriculiformis in Indonesia started in 2009 by establishing an open-pollinated orchard to produce the natural Acacia hybrid seed in Wonogiri District, Central Java Province. The design of the orchard was an alternate row between A. mangium and A. auriculiformis with a spacing of 5 × 5 meters. The orchard produced putative Acacia hybrid seeds firstly in 2013. Based on flowering synchronization between the two species, seeds from 38 sample trees of A. mangium were taken to identify their characte

AbstractThe target of the Indonesian government was to restore at least 2 million ha of degraded peatlands by 2020. This can be achieved by applying three approaches: rewetting, revegetation, and revitalization of the community. In revegetation, the use of native tree species is recommended in the technical guidelines for peatland restoration. The interest in using native plant species for ecosystem restoration, particularly for peatland restoration, is increasing significantly. The native species may adapt well to the environment and usually correspond with the people’s preference. An importa
