Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Circuit 28, no. 1 (April 6, 2018): 71–85. http://dx.doi.org/10.7202/1044377ar.

Full text
Abstract:

Brouillaud, Jean-Pierre. "Le juge amiable compositeur." Paris 1, 1995. http://www.theses.fr/1995PA010265.

Full text
Abstract:
The judge's mission, theoretically, is to apply the law. When he has to resolve a cese, he cannot win acceptance for his opinion, without taking legal rules into account. But there are a few exceptions to this obligation : sometimes the judge can put aside the enforcement of the law and resolve the case by the application of his conception of equity and justice, notably when the parties to the case, by common consent, ask him, or when the law enables him to do so. But even if ther is neither request from the parties nor legal authorization, the judge, pretending to be interpreting a law, sometimes puts it aside, when he considers it unfair. In such situations, the judge can be considered like an arbitrator, searching more for equity and justice than for a decision exclusively founded on a strict application of juridical rules

Abstract:
Jacques Castérède, who was a professor of musical analysis in the Paris conservatoire, is one of the most significant composers of the music of to-day for his seventieth anniversary. This thesis presents the chiefly elements of his life and of his career (the first book), allows discovering the main lines of his musical language (the second one), and offers a detailed analysis of nine significant scores (the third one). This work, well-structured and clearly built, contains, the most contemporary technics of writing, without cutting with his cultural roots. Well done and written by a conscientious composer, it is easy to hear although unconventional. Jacques Castérède is the author of 150 works. Most of them were created by Radio-France or in great French and foreign festivals. His most recent works are often of spiritual inspiration. Abstract:
Théodore Dubois (1837-1924) has been a famous musician during his life: his numerous and important charges in the parisian musical life placed him in the complex and perturbed reality of the early 20th century. After his death, almost all his works falled into oblivion, and his teorical ideas were considered as the product of a man who did not follow the progress and who opposed the new musical movements. This dissertation, based on several unpublished sources, comprises a biography which describes his place in contemporary musical life, an examination of his career and a careful analysis of all his catalogue for organ. It contributes to an understanding of the significance of his life-work in the musical context at his time. Included are a complete catalogue of his organ compositions and various selected documents

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Alexander V. Mossolov (1900-1973) is a soviet composer known for his activities within the association of contemporary music. He belongs to the young generation issued from the October Revolution which worked out a system of futuristic musical language originated from the daily life of a society in full change. By 1924 he composed works of chamber music (string quartet, melodies for voice and piano), orchestral music (“Zavod : music-machines”, harp concerto). After spending eight months in a work camp owing to his "anti-Soviet activities", Mossolov takes to ethnomusicology: he gathers, harmonizes songs from Kouban, Kabardino-Balkaria. At the end of his life he writes several compositions for the academic state choir of the Great North

The paper deals with transnational public policy in international commercial arbitration. Firstly, the distinction between national and international public policy and the application of these types of public policy in arbitration are presented. Secondly, a characterization of transnational public policy is given so that the paper can discuss the question – what are the sources of transnational public policy. In the last part, the application of transnational public policy is then inferred from the existence of international conventions, from the lex mercatoria and from deciding as amiable compositeur.

AbstractThe effect of legislation on composites recycling can be both a driving force, such as in the case of End-of-Life Vehicle legislation, that is making it mandatory to reuse the materials used in vehicle manufacturing, or a boundary, increasing the burden to manufacturers reusing composite materials. As a consequence, a deep study on the impact of policies on the reuse of composites is fundamental to promote those actions boosting the deployment of circular value-chains. In this Chapter, a model based on System Dynamics theory, representing the entire industrial environment of composite materials, has been developed, leading to a prioritization of most impacting legislations, providing conclusions and recommendations derived from data.

Abstract:
AbstractDetermining the graphene oxide (GO) content is the key to applying GO to reinforce the mechanical performance and durability of cementitious composites. However, most of the previous studies are conducted from the perspective of experiments and lack elaboration on the mechanism of the GO-reinforced cementitious composite under different GO content. Hence, we investigated the effect of GO content on the reinforcing efficiency of calcium–silicate–hydrate (C–S–H) to trade off the enhancement of GO in cementitious composites and the corresponding economic benefits. The results demonstrated that an appropriate number of GO nanosheets can reinforce the cementitious composite with simultaneous high enhancing efficiency and economic benefits. The microdamage evolution of GO/C–S–H composites and the GO reinforcing mechanisms are reported. Our findings deepen the understanding of the enhancing mechanisms of GO embedded in C–S–H nanocomposites and help to determine the suitable GO content in practical engineering.

Abstract:
AbstractThe aim of this work was to design and optimize compositions of three-component composites based on polyetheretherketone (PEEK) with enhanced tribological and mechanical properties. Initially, two-component PEEK-based composites loaded with molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) were investigated. It was shown that an increase in dry friction mode tribological characteristics in metal-polymer and ceramic-polymer tribological contacts was attained by loading with lubricant fluoroplastic particles. In addition, molybdenum disulfide homogenized permolecular structure and improved matrix strength properties. After that, a methodology for identifying composition of multicomponent PEEK-based composites having prescribed properties which based on a limited amount of experimental data was proposed and implemented. It was shown that wear rate of the “PEEK + 10% PTFE + 0.5% MoS2” composite decreased by 39 times when tested on the metal counterpart, and 15 times on the ceramic one compared with neat PEEK. However, in absolute terms, wear rate of the three-component composite on the metal counterpart was 1.5 times higher than on the ceramic one. A three-fold increase in wear resistance during friction on both the metal and ceramic counterparts was achieved for the “PEEK + 10% PTFE + 0.5% MoS2” three-component composite compared with the “PEEK + 10% PTFE”. Simultaneous loading with two types of fillers slightly deteriorated the polymer composite structure compared with neat PEEK. However, wear rate was many times reduced due to facilitation of transfer film formation. For this reason, there was no microabrasive wear on both metal and ceramic counterpart surfaces.

Abstract:
Abstract. Due to age, structural deterioration, and other factors, concrete constructions such as beams and columns will inevitably deteriorate. The growth of nanomaterials and recent advances in multidisciplinary research has broadened cement composites' applicability in various fields. A self-sensing cement composite can detect its own deformation, strain, and stress by changing its electrical characteristics, which may be measured with electrical resistivity. Carbon-based nanomaterials, such as carbon fiber, carbon black, and carbon nanotube, have a strong potential to increase cement composite's mechanical (strength) and electrical (resistivity, sensitivity) potentials due to their remarkable strength and conductivity. Due to the artificial integration of conductive carbon-based components will generate piezoresistive properties in typical cement composites, transforming them into self-sensing cement composites. As a result, the review focuses primarily on the development of nanoparticle-based self-sensing cement composites and their use in the health monitoring of structural columns. This research critically examines the materials used, fabrication techniques, strength, and sensing methodologies used to develop the self-sensing cement composite. The difficulties of commercializing self-sensing cement composites, as well as potential solutions, are also highlighted. According to the review, the difference in Poisson ratio and youngs modulus between the self-sensing cement composite and columns leads the self-sensing cement composite to have different strength and conductivity before and after embedding in columns. According to the study, the addition of conductive material diminishes the composite's workability due to its large specific surface area. Because of the well-distributed conductive network, the composite's resistivity is significantly lowered. The study also shows that the inclusion of a self-sensing cement composite has no bearing capacity influence on the column. Finally, according to the review, the self-sensing cement composite has the ability to monitor the health of structural columns.

Abstract:
In this paper, we investigate the use of vertically aligned carbon nano tubes (VACNTs) in laminated composites across nearby plies for developing advanced composites to improve the transverse mechanical properties of the composite. VACNTs introduced into the interlaminar area by manually printing aligned carbon nanotubes onto the surface of the composite prepreg plies. The transverse tensile test is utilized to determine the improvement in transverse mechanical properties. The results shows that the transverse tensile improved by 31.6 %. This approach demonstrates extremely promising outcomes in terms of improving the composite's transverse strength.

Abstract:
Woven composites are produced by interlacing warp and weft fibers in a pattern or weave style. By changing the pattern or material, the mechanical properties of woven composites can be significantly changed. However, how a woven composite’s architecture (pattern, material) is related to its mechanical properties is still unclear. Thus, in this paper, we utilize Deep Neural Network to explore the relationship between 2D woven composite architectures and their corresponding mechanical properties. We propose Deep Convolutional Neural Network to predict in-plane modulus from a given weave pattern and material sequence. More importantly, we propose a Physics-Constrained Neural Network to predict woven composite architecture from in-plane modulus, which is an extremely complex problem. The results demonstrate that our proposed Deep Neural Network frameworks can effectively represent the relationships between woven composite architecture and corresponding in-plane modulus with much higher accuracy compared to existing frameworks. We anticipate our proposed frameworks will not only facilitate woven composite analysis and optimization process but also be a starting point to introduce Physics knowledge guided Neural Networks into woven composite analysis.

Abstract:
3D woven composites are well known for their high strength, dimensional stability, delamination, and impact resistance. They are often used in aerospace, energy, and automotive industries where material parts can experience harsh service conditions including substantial variations in temperature. This may lead to significant thermal deformations and thermally-induced stresses in the material. Additionally, 3D woven composites are often produced using resin transfer molding (RTM) technique which involves curing the epoxy resin at elevated temperatures leading to accumulation of the processing-induced residual stress. Thus, understanding of effective thermal behavior of 3D woven composites is essential for their successful design and service. In this paper, the effective thermal properties of 3D woven carbon-epoxy composite materials are estimated using mesoscale finite element models previously developed for evaluation of the manufacturing-induced residual stresses. We determine effective coefficients of thermal expansion (CTEs) of the composites in terms of the known thermal and mechanical properties of epoxy resin and carbon fibers. We investigate how temperature sensitivity of the thermal and mechanical properties of the epoxy influences the overall thermal properties of the composite. The simulations are performed for different composite reinforcement morphologies including ply-to-ply and orthogonal. It is shown that even linear dependence of epoxy’s stiffness and CTE on temperature results in a nonlinear dependence on temperature of the overall composite’s CTE.

<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Automotive industry is looking for high strength and durable lightweight material with resistance to wear and friction. To meet this requirement, a new hybrid polymer composite material has been developed using reinforcement as SS 304 wire mesh and jute fibre. Present paper explores the experimental findings of wear performance of hybrid polymer composite under dry condition. Four different laminates with configurations JJSJJSJJ, (JJSJJSJJ)450, GGSGGSGG and GJSJJSJG along with their virgin counterpart were developed by hand layup technique supported by compression moulding. These laminates were tested as per the ASTM standards to investigate its performance for friction and wear using pin on disc machine with steel as a counterpart. Testing parameters were sliding distance, applied load and sliding speed. Experimental results showed that, applied load have major influence on the friction and wear performance of developed hybrid composites. As load rises, friction force value increases with increased specific wear rate for entire composites. With hybridization of composite laminates, the frication and wear performance has improved as their virgin counterpart. The study demonstrates that wire mesh added to hybrid polymer composites during manufacturing increases the composite's wear resistance. This developed hybrid composite material has great potential to replace metal or alloy in automobile door trim panels where friction and wear are dominates.</div></div>

Abstract:
Autonomic smart self-healing composites are being developed and tested to deal with the problems of crack propagation and eventual damage. The recovery and self-healing efficiencies of these composite structures varies with changes in different physical properties such as temperature and shape geometry. The foremost steps in creating a self-healing composite are mixing and programming and recovery. This paper explores the relationship between a composite’s programming processes against its shape-geometry. Improving the programming and recovery would lead to an improved self-healing polymer. To this end, samples of self-healing shape-memory polymers of different aspect ratios are tested after programming and recovery, and their compressive strengths are compared. The results show a direct relationship between the compressive strengths and aspect ratio.

Abstract. Structural health monitoring has proven to be a dependable source for ensuring the integrity of the structure. It also aids in detecting and estimating the progression of cracks and the loss of structural performance. The most compelling components in the structural health monitoring system are sensing material and sensor technology. In health monitoring systems, fiber optic sensors, strain gauges, temperature sensors, shape memory alloys, and other types of sensors are commonly used. Even though the sensors bring monetary value to the system, they have some apparent drawbacks. As a result, self-sensing cement composite was established as a sensor alternative with better endurance and compatibility than sensors. Carbon nanotubes, nanofibers, graphene nanoplates, and graphene oxide are carbon-based nanomaterials with unique mechanical and electrical properties. As a result, this review comprises a complete assessment of the fresh, mechanical, and electrical properties of self-sensing cement composite developed using carbon-based nanoparticles. The research also focuses on the self-monitoring performance of cement composite in concrete beams, both bulk and embedded, by graphing the deviation of fractional change in resistivity with strain. The network channel development of carbon-based nanomaterials in cement composites and their characterization acquired using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-Ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD) research are also comprehensively discussed. According to the study, increasing carbon-based embedment decreased the relative slump and flowability while increasing the composite's compressive, split tensile, flexural, and post-peak performance. Also, the amount of carbon in the carbon-based nanomaterial directly relates to the composite's conductivity. As a result, the development of piezoresistive and sensing capabilities in carbon-based self-sensing cement composites not only improves mechanical and conductive properties but also serves as a sensor in structural health monitoring of flexural members.

Abstract:
Abstract Ceramic-matrix composites (CMCs) possess high specific strength and modulus at elevated temperature and have already been applied in hot-section components in commercial or military gas turbine engines. Due to low fracture strain in the brittle SiC ceramic, matrix microcracking occurs below the proportional limit stress (PLS). At elevated temperature, the opening of matrix microcracking affects the mechanical properties of CMCs when the oxygen or oxidative gas ingresses the composite through these cracks. To ensure the reliability, safety, and airworthiness level of CMCs components, it is necessary to understand the crack opening behavior of CMCs at elevated temperature. In this paper, a micromechanical approach is developed to predict the time-dependent crack opening behavior in SiC/SiC composite. Micro stress field in the different damage regions are obtained and the cracking opening displacement (COD) are calculated. Experimental CODs in SiC/SiC composite for different matrix crack lengths are predicted. Effects of composite material properties, stress level, and testing temperature on the time-dependent crack opening behavior in SiC/SiC composite are analyzed. Relationships between the cracking opening, composite’s constituent properties, stress level, and testing temperature are established. The analysis results can help the engineering designer better understanding the crack opening behavior in CMCs.

Abstract:
In this study, a numerical representative volume element (RVE) model was used to predict the mechanical properties of a Rice Husk Particulate (RHP)-Epoxy composite for use as an alternative material in non-critical applications. Seven different analytical models Counto, Ishai-Cohen, Halpin-Tsai, Nielsen, Nicolais, Modified Nicolais and Pukanszky were used as comparison tools for the numerical model. The mechanical properties estimated for 0%, 10% and 30% RHP-Epoxy composites using the numerical and analytical models are in general agreement with each other. Using the analytical models, it was calculated that an increase in volume percentage of RHP to 30% led to continual reduction in elastic Young’s modulus and ultimate tensile strength of the composite. The numerical RVE models also predicted a similar trend between filler volume percentage and material properties. Overall, the results of this study suggest that RHP can be used to reduce the composite raw material costs by replacing the more expensive polymer content with agricultural waste products with limited compromise to the composite’s mechanical properties.

Abstract:
The properties of composite materials are strongly influenced by both the physical and chemical properties of their individual constituents, as well as the interactions between them. For nanocomposites, the incorporation of nano-sized dopants inside a host material matrix can lead to significant improvements in mechanical strength, toughness, thermal or electrical conductivity, etc. In this work, the effect of cellulose nanofibrils on the structure and mechanical properties of cellulose nanofibril poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) composite films was investigated. Cellulose is one of the most abundant organic polymers with superior mechanical properties and readily functionalized surfaces. Under the current processing conditions, cellulose nanofibrils, as-received and 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl radical (TEMPO) oxidized, alter the crystallinity and mechanical properties of the composite films while not inducing a crystalline phase transformation on the 𝛾 phase PVDF composites. Composite films obtained from hydrated cellulose nanofibrils remain in a majority 𝛾 phase, but also exhibit a small, yet detectable fraction of 𝛼 and ß PVDF phases.

Abstract:
The objective of the research presented in this report was to investigate the performance of patch-type composite repairs on pressure vessels with through-wall defects. The most common repair geometry for bonded composites is the full-encirclement repair where the repair is formed by installing a composite that completely encircles the damaged substrate. These repairs are straightforward to install and have proven to have good field performance through a variety of industry and academic-sponsored research projects. When the substrate vessel becomes large, then these encirclement repairs begin to become cumbersome and costly to install. A potential alternative is to use, instead, an adhesively bonded patch that does not encircle the substrate. Patch-type repairs have been used for almost two decades in the aerospace industry, but are not a common or accepted repair type for pressure vessels. The primary goal of the research in the present study was to understand the differences between full-encirclement and patch repairs on through-wall defects.
