A novel XRD analysis technique is described for quantitatively measuring compositional inhomogeneity in Li[NixMnyCoz]O2 (NMC) cathode materials and NMC precursors. Single-phase rock salt precursors with varying degrees of compositional inhomogeneity were prepared by grinding mixtures of Ni, Mn and Co oxides for different times and then heating. These precursors were then heated with lithium to form cathode materials. A modified Williamson-Hall analysis was used to measure the degree of compositional inhomogeneity in the precursors and the final NMC materials. This analysis showed that precurso

AbstractMany copolysaccharides are compositionally heterogeneous, and the composition determined by the usual analytical or spectroscopic methods provides only an average value. For some polysaccharides, the NMR data contain copolymer sequence information, such as diad, triad, and tetrad sequence intensities. In such cases, it is possible to estimate the extent of compositional heterogeneity through NMR. Two general types of methodologies can be used: perturbed Markovian and discrete component approaches. The theoretical bases for these approaches are reviewed in this work, and three examples

Compositional data are nonnegative data carrying relative, rather than absolute, information—these are often data with a constant-sum constraint on the sample values, for example, proportions or percentages summing to 1% or 100%, respectively. Ratios between components of a composition are important since they are unaffected by the particular set of components chosen. Logarithms of ratios (logratios) are the fundamental transformation in the ratio approach to compositional data analysis—all data thus need to be strictly positive, so that zero values present a major problem. With compositional data ordinary covariation indexes, designed for real random variables, fail to describe dependence. There is a need for compositional alternatives to covariance and correlation. Based on the Euclidean structure of the simplex, called Aitchison geometry, compositional association is identied to a linear restriction of the sample space when a log-contrast is constant. In order to simplify interpretation, a sparse and simple version of compositional association is dened in terms of balances which are constant across the sample. It is called b-association. Eukaryotic genomes, particularly animal genomes, have a complex, nonuniform, and nonrandom internal compositional organization. The compositional organization of animal genomes can be described as a mosaic of discrete genomic regions, called “compositional domains,” each with a distinct GC content that significantly differs from those of its upstream and downstream neighboring domains. A typical animal genome consists of a mixture of compositionally homogeneous and nonhomogeneous domains of varying lengths and nucleotide compositions that are interspersed with one another. Instead of looking at individual nutrients or foods, dietary pattern analysis has emerged as a promising approach to examine the relationship between diet and health outcomes. Despite dietary patterns being compositional (i.e. usually a higher intake of some foods implies that less of other foods are being consumed), compositional data analysis has not yet been applied in this setting. We describe three compositional data analysis approaches (compositional principal component analysis, balances and principal balances) that enable the extraction of dietary patterns by using control subjects fro

The term compositional data analysis is historically associated to the approach based on the logratio transformations introduced in the eighties. Two main principles of this methodology are scale invariance and subcompositional coherence. New developments and concepts emerged in the last decade revealed the need to clarify the concepts of compositions, compositional sample space and subcomposition. In this work the mathematics of compositional analysis based on equivalence relation is presented. The two principles are essential attributes of the corresponding quotient space. A logarithmic isom

Compositional data analysis refers to analyzing relative information, based on ratios between the variables in a data set. Data from epidemiology are usually treated as absolute information in an analysis. We outline the differences in both approaches for univariate and multivariate statistical analyses, using illustrative data sets from Austrian districts. Not only the results of the analyses can differ, but in particular the interpretation differs. It is demonstrated that the compositional data analysis approach leads to new and interesting insights.

Decompilation or reverse compilation is the process of translating low-level machine-readable code into high-level human-readable code. The problem is non-trivial due to the amount of information lost during compilation, but it can be divided into several smaller problems which may be solved independently. This report explores the feasibility of composing a decompilation pipeline from independent components, and the potential of exposing those components to the end-user. Different model-based safety analysis methods, such as Hierarchically Performed Hazard Origin & Propagation Studies (HiP-HOPS), are increasingly applied by industry for dependability analysis of safety-critical systems.
