Abstract:
This paper presents mathematical expressions for the surface geometry of variable pitch cylindrical cams with four conical meshing elements based on the theory of conjugate surfaces. The unit normal of the element is derived, with given surface geometry of the meshing element, by differential geometry. The contact lines of the conjugate surface are defined according to the equation of meshing and the specified input-output relation. By the coordinate transformation of contact lines, we have the complete profile of the variable pitch cylindrical cam. The results of this work are instrumental in

In this paper, the cell-based smoothed finite element method is extended to solve stochastic partial differential equations with uncertain input parameters. The spatial field of Young’s Modulus and the corresponding stochastic results are represented by Karhunen-Loéve expansion and polynomial chaos expansion, respectively. Young’s Modulus of structure is considered to be random for stochastic static as well as free vibration problems. Mathematical expressions and the solution procedure are articulated in detail to evaluate the statistical characteristics of responses in terms of the static dis

Three-parameter and four-parameter sine-wave fitting algorithms are powerful tools for estimating the parameters of the excited single-tone sine-wave for ADC. In the dynamic performance testing processes of instruments, the angle frequency, amplitude, phase and dc component of the input sine-wave are all unknown, so the fitting procedure is nonlinear. The sensitivity of a neural network's output to its input perturbation is an important issue with both theoretical and practical values. In this article, we propose an approach to quantify the sensitivity of the most popular and general feedforward network: multilayer perceptron (MLP). The sensitivity measure is defined as the mathematical expectation of output deviation due to expected input deviation with respect to overall input patterns in a continuous interval. Based on the structural characteristics of the MLP, a bottom-up approach is adopted. A single neuron is considered first, and alg

The process of moving from experimental data to modeling and characterizing the dynamics and interactions in natural processes is a challenging task. This paper proposes an interactive platform for fitting data derived from experiments to mathematical expressions and carrying out spatial visualization. The platform is designed using a component-based software architectural approach, implemented in R and the Java programming languages. It uses experimental data as input for model fitting, then applies the obtained model at the landscape level via a spatial temperature grid data to yield regiona

This article investigates the influence of random microwave discontinuities on the characteristics of long transmission paths. This is most important for dynamic measuring stands, accompanied by multiple space movement of long transmission paths with their bending or twisting during the measurement process. In modern active electronically scanned arrays this issue also becomes relevant, due to increased requirements for the accuracy of beam shaping. The aim of this study is to develop a theoretical background and perform experimental verification for taking into account the effect of random mi

Several important key problems and issues remain to be addressed about the numerical analysis of friction stir welding. The main feature of the thermal numerical approach is to accurately compute the thermal distribution produced by the friction between the plate and the tool. It is well known that the downward force applied from the tool creates a distributed pressure between the shoulder and the workpiece. Based on this, a new expression to represent the heat generation in FSW is proposed. Results of thermal cycles, thermal histories, and shapes of the weld and HAZ obtained with the proposed

In this paper, a design method for a photovoltaic system based on a dual active bridge converter and a photovoltaic module is proposed. The method is supported by analytical results and theoretical predictions, which are confirmed with circuital simulations. The analytical development, the theoretical predictions, and the validation through circuital simulations, are the main contributions of the paper. The dual active bridge converter is selected due to its high efficiency, high input and output voltages range, and high voltage-conversion ratio, which enables the interface of low-voltage phot
