Abstract:
We present a decision procedure to determine the optimal maintenance intervals of a computer software throughout its operational phase. Our model accounts for the average cost per each maintenance activity and the damage cost per failure with the future cost discounted. Our decision policy is optimal in the sense that it minimizes the expected total cost. Our model assumes that the total number of errors in the software has a Poisson distribution with known mean λ and each error causes failures independently of other errors at a known constant failure rate. We study the structures of the optimal policy in terms of λ and present efficient numerical algorithms to compute the optimal maintenance time intervals, the optimal total number of maintenances, and the minimal total expected cost throughout the maintenance phase.

Abstract:
The mere idea of maintenance today has been extended. It is not only the technical systems that are being maintained in order to keep them in operating conditions, also the environment (water, air, soil) is maintained, flora and fauna are maintained, man maintains his health etc. In the last few years developed tourist countries with developed hotel industry as their main tourist receptive tool, have as part of strategies for their development defined maintenance as one of the significant elements of complete development, but also of business quality improvement. The function of maintenance comprises the jobs and activities performed to ensure correctness, i.e. functional usability of instruments of labour. The characteristic of today's maintenance of a hotel as a catering establishment lies in the fact that it is performed on concrete equipment and it has a practical impact on successful running of the hotel. Since the equipment in a hotel comprises different groups of equipment: mechanical, electrical, building- particular approach is required when selecting the maintenance strategy for a particular group of equipment. However, computer support is essential to every strategy in order for the maintenance service to become effective. Related to that, the managing computer system for hotel maintenance must support preventive, planned and corrective maintenance.

Abstract:
A framework is presented for incorporating maintenance into a dependability analysis methodology for computer-based systems. Two types of maintenance are considered: failure-driven maintenance and time-driven maintenance. Failure-driven maintenance or repair is carried out when the system (or component) performance deviates from its expected performance and consists of all tasks performed to restore the functional capabilities of failed items, principally diagnosis and repair. Time-driven or scheduled maintenance is conducted on a specific time schedule in order to prevent system failure. There may be dependencies between different components of a system with regard to their maintenance plans. These dependencies arise either because a component has maintenance priority over one or more components or because the maintenance of a certain component implies the maintenance of other components. Constructs are presented for modelling these dependencies in the context of dynamic fault tree analysis and a methodology is developed for solving the fault tree. The dynamic fault tree constructs effectively capture the failure dependencies between components. The approach is illustrated with an example based on a water deluge system.

Abstract:
Although graphic representations have proven to be of value in computer-aided support and have received much attention in both research and practice (Goldschmidt, 1991; Goel, 1995; Achten, 1997; Do, 2002), linguistic representations presently do not significantly contribute to improve the information handling related to the computer support of a design product. During its life cycle, engineers and designers make many representations of a product. The information and knowledge used to create the product are usually represented visually in sketches, models, (technical) drawings, and images. Linguistic information is complementary to graphic information and essential to create the corporate memory of products. Linguistic information (i.e., the use of words, abbreviations, vocal comments, annotations, notes, and reports) creates meaningful information for designers and engineers as well as for computers (Segers, 2004; Juchmes et al., 2005). Captions, plain text, and keyword indexing are now common to support the communication between design actors (Lawson & Loke, 1997; Wong & Kvan, 1999; Heylighen, 2001; Boujut, 2003). Nevertheless, it is currently scarcely used to its full potential in design, maintenance, and manufacturing.

Abstract The paper deals with the development and application of computer-aided standardisation (CAS) for the distribution of standardisation data of production and maintenance processes within the company network. Rising integration pressure of company software tools also include CAx technologies. These CAx technologies provide software solutions for different applications, being able to work closely together with ERP-systems, Business Intelligence (BI) tools and further systems. The possibility of integration makes it also feasible to look on the CAS tool and its potential. While CAS is a topic not yet fully discussed, future development may lead to the requirement of integrating the CAS with the ERP and planning system. Approaches, such as CIM, digital factories (DF) and Industry 4.0 benefit from a broader database available with the CAS system employed

AbstractThe article concerns the issue of applying computer-aided systems of the maintenance of technical objects in difficult conditions. Difficult conditions shall be understood as these in which the maintenance takes place in a specific location making it hard or even preventing from using a computer. In these cases computers integrated with workwear should be used, the so-called wearable computers, with which the communication is possible by using hand gestures. The results of the analysis of the usefulness of one of methods of image recognition based on Viola-Jones algorithm were described. This algorithm enables to obtain the model of recognised image which might be used as a pattern in the application programme detecting a certain image.

Abstract:
To realize the maintenance management system in the near future, this paper presents a development of on-line computer maintenance system to manage and record the maintenance information in the database for the plastic injection machines by utilizing the computer networks via the wireless system. The on-line computer maintenance management system is friendly use and easy to check the equipment problems, the production wastes and the production efficiency via the mobile phones and also the computer networks. Whenever a malfunction happens, the alert message will be sent to the operator and the maintenance manager to respond it immediately. In addition, the developed energy management function by selecting the heater insulator and reducing the mold clamping pressure can help to calculate the energy consumption, the breakeven point and the payback period which have not been done in the computer maintenance management system. The developed program can automatically generate the next schedule of the preventive maintenance, which leads to the higher efficiency. The developed system is examined and implemented in the plastic injection machines, which have never been used the on-line computer maintenance management system. It has been proved that the proposed and developed system increases the overall equipment effectiveness about 6.42% and the mean time between failure of 37.17% while the mean time to repair decreases approximately 16.26%.

In this paper are proposed two new approaches to maintenance strategies for Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine tools. The analysis is done for different families of CNC machine tools from S.C. Elmet Bacau, a company specialized in aviation. In maintenance actions applied to CNC machine tools is very important to know the evolution of defects and critical state of electrical and mechanical components. The results of this analysis concludes that maintenance actions can be judged by the developing time period diagram, between failure appearance and interruptions in operation. It is also analyzed the financial impact, revealed from known maintenance strategies adopted on CNC machine tools, resulting in a positive approach of condition based maintenance.

Abstract:
As high-speed railways continue to be constructed, more maintenance work is needed to ensure smooth operation. However, this leads to frequent accidents involving maintenance workers at the tracks. Although the number of such accidents is decreasing, there is an increase in the number of casualties. When a maintenance worker is hit by a train, it invariably results in a fatality; this is a serious social issue. To address this problem, this study utilized the tunnel monitoring system installed on trains to prevent railway accidents. This was achieved by using a system that uses image data from the tunnel monitoring system to recognize railway signs and railway tracks and detect maintenance workers on the tracks. Images of railway signs, tracks, and maintenance workers on the tracks were recorded through image data. The Computer Vision OpenCV library was utilized to extract the image data. A recognition and detection algorithm for railway signs, tracks, and maintenance workers was constructed to improve the accuracy of the developed prevention system.
