Abstract:
Queue management is a crucial part of service industry. Business has to deal with the uncertainty of arrival customer and the trade-off between the costs of providing capacity and customer satisfaction. Matching service capacity with the arrival customer is difficult so the system utilization is low in the low periods and customers have to wait for a long time in the peak period. Due to long waiting, some customer abandons the queue before receiving service. Customer abandonment affects business revenue and the system utilization. To relieve the effect of the customer abandonment, this paper aims to propose Artificial Neural Network based waiting time predictor with queue reservation system. The proposed system increases the system utilization and increase customer satisfaction at the same time. Instead of abandonment, customers can reserve their place in queue if the waiting time is too long and they can do other activities while waiting. Moreover, the proposed system provides the accurate estimated waiting time to each customer instead of queue-length. The accurate waiting time enables arrival customers to better decide on the reservation options. 95% of our predicted waiting time is accurate within 5 minutes. Comparing to the system without the queue reservation system, the system utilization and the number of the arrival customer completed service improve 13% and 54% respectively

Abstract:
The prevailing theater industry requires new state-of-the-art mechanisms for better evaluation so as to meet the expectations of the audience and to capture the attention of more and more public, thereby making the industry profitable. In modern times, when technology is employed in approximately all walks of life, it is necessary to come up with an automated system that can evaluate the performance of theaters effectively, can provide with more efficient scheduling mechanisms for better management of human resource and other assets, and can improve the traditional booking and reservation mechanisms. This paper proposes a fuzzy logic-based comprehensive evaluation system to closely examine the theater performance in order to construct an intelligent model for rational arrangement of the theater performances as per the demand of the audience. From the perspective of e-commerce, an advanced ticketing system is proposed for better user experience where online reservation of theater seats is performed by using the online facility. This also provides real-time scenario of reservation/availability of seats for a particular program so that the user can make reservations as per his/her preferred schedule. The proposed model is rigorously tested and statistically studied to support the theoretical claims of the research. From the results of the chart analysis, it could be noticed that the evaluation model proposed in this paper is very effective.

Abstract:
The system reachability set is calculated by covering all possible behaviours of the system through a finite number of simulation steps to ensure that the system trajectory stays within a set safety region. In this paper, the theory of the game method is applied to the design of the controller, a very small controller is designed, and good control results are obtained by simulation. The system gradually shows a divergent trend and cannot achieve stable control. A multihop channel reservation Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol based on a parallel mechanism is proposed. The multihop channel reservation mechanism is proposed based on periodic node sleep, and the node uses the reservation frame to make the reservation of the channel and transmits the data according to the reservation information; the parallel mechanism is used to make the reservation information and data transmission simultaneously.

Abstract:
Highways tend to get congested because of the increase in the number of cars travelling on them. There are two solutions to this. The first one, which is also expensive, consists in building new highways to support the traffic. A much cheaper alternative consists in the introduction of advanced intelligent traffic control systems to manage traffic and increase the efficiency of the already existing highways. Intelligent lane reservation system for highways (ILRSH) is such a software control system. It is designed to assist and automate the use of a highway lane as a reserved lane. The idea is to allow and support drivers to travel at a speed higher, if in return they are willing to pay a small fee to reserve an empty virtual slot on the reserved lane. This slot is valid for a portion and of the highway and a time window, so each driver pays the fee depending thier its travelling needs. In return, drivers are guaranteed a congestion-free travel on that portion. In this paper, we present the proposed architecture of the ILRSH and its subsystems. The system is based on several proposed algorithms designed to assist the drivers, enter or exit the reserved lane, based on real-world driving observations. We present extensive simulation results showing the feasibility of the proposed approach, that can easily be implemented with little costs on already-existing highways, and the increase in traffic efficiency.

Abstract:
The merits of entry and selection interaction methods were compared using an airline flight reservation scenario with a relatively small data base. For both experienced and inexperienced users, the most effective method was entry combined with autocompletion (i.e., string completion). Users took the least amount of time to carry out tasks with this method and also preferred it over both entry without autocompletion and selection from either a one-item menu or an N-item menu. Entry with autocompletion was not affected by increases in the underlying data base size. Both the entry with autocompletion methods and the selection method were not affected by the spelling difficulty level involved in making a reservation, but the unaided entry methods were. The results are discussed in the context of the Interactive Transaction System (ITS) project, which is a user-interface management system that separates the content of the user interface from the style of the interface.

Abstract:
While an extensive set of research projects deal with the issue of power-saving for battery-based electronic devices, few have an interest in permanently-plugged Large-Scale Experimental Distributed Systems (LSEDS). However, a rapid study shows that each computer, member of a distributed system platform, consumes a substantial quantity of power, especially when those resources are idle. Today, given the number of processing resources involved in large-scale computing infrastructures, we are convinced that we can save a lot of electric power by proposing and applying "green policies". Introduced in this article, those policies propose to alternatively switch computer nodes On and Off in a clever way. Based on the analysis of some experimental large-scale system's usage, we propose a resource-reservation infrastructure which takes the energy issue into account. We validate our infrastructure on the large-scale experimental Grid'5000a platform and present the energy gains obtained.

Abstract:
On-demand station-based one-way carsharing is widely adopted for battery electric vehicle sharing systems, which is regarded as a supplement of urban mobility and a promising approach to the utilization of green energy vehicles. The service model of these carsharing systems allows users to select vehicles based on their own judgment on vehicle battery endurance, while users tend to pick up vehicles with the longest endurance distances. This phenomenon makes instant-access systems lose efficiency on matching available vehicles with diverse user requests and limits carsharing systems for higher capacity. We proposed a vehicle assignment method to allocate vehicles to users that maximize the utility of battery, which requires the system to enable short-term reservation rather than instant access. The methodology is developed from an agent-based discrete event simulation framework with a first-come-first-serve logic module for instant access mode and a resource matching optimization module for short-term reservation mode. Results show that the short-term reservation mode can at most serve 20% more users and create 47% more revenue than instant access mode under the scenario of this research. This paper also points out the equilibrium between satisfying more users by efficiently allocating vehicles and distracting users by disabling instant access and suggests that the reservation time could be 15 minutes.

Abstract:
Data grid systems are utilized to share, manage, and process large data sets. On the other hand, an increasing number of applications with real-time constraints arise in several disciplines of science and engineering. The performance of a data grid system for real-time applications is highly dependent on the underlying job scheduling, data scheduling, and data replication algorithms and advance reservation mechanism. Thus, in the literature, there are numerous studies that propose solutions to the job/data scheduling, data replication, and advance reservation problems. In these studies, a number of simulators, emulators, or test beds have been used to evaluate the proposed algorithms. Furthermore, these simulators/emulators usually adopt fixed-grid models, which in turn dictate specific job/data scheduling and data replication mechanisms. In the literature, there is no unified framework for modeling grid systems with different architectures, which can allow researchers to develop new grid system models and evaluate them in a flexible manner. This paper presents a unique framework for modeling real-time data grid systems that attempts to unify a large class of job scheduling, data scheduling, and data replication algorithms based on several system services. Then, in order to enable the development of these algorithms under different system models, DGridSim is realized to be a multi-model discrete-event simulator, and its capabilities are exemplified by means of a set of simulation results. The main contribution of the research is DGridSim, which can model and simulate a variety of different data grid system models by means of several system services and their interactions.

User Interfaces act as the interaction layer between human and computer and have an important role in system adoption. According to technology acceptance model, acceptance of a system is explained as a function of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Since there are several external variables that have an impact on those variables, the content and interface design of every single application should be addressed specifically to enhance users’ intention to use the system. Adding adaptive features into systems may be one of the approaches to address this phenomenon. This paper identifies external variables including adaptive behavior impacting acceptance of a mobile reservation system through implementation of two prototypes.

Abstract:
Electric vehicles (EVs) are seen as one of the principal pillars of smart transportation to relieve the airborne pollution induced by fossil CO2 emissions. However, the battery limit, especially where the journey is with a long-distance road remains the most formidable obstacle to the large-scale use of EVs. To overcome the issue of prolonged waiting charging time due to the large number of EVs may have a charging plan at the same charging station (CS) along the highway, we propose a communication system to manage the EVs charging demands. The architecture system contains a smart scheduling algorithm to minimize trip time including waiting time, previous reservations and energyare needed to reach the destination. Moreover, an automatic mechanism for updating reservation is integrated to adjust the EVs charging plans. The results of the evaluation under the Moroccan highway scenario connecting Rabat and Agadir show the effectiveness of our proposal system.<br /><div> </div>

Abstract:
When writing about the history of the internet, it is important to note that aerospace was among the significant pioneers in computer networking computer network for private was used in first airline reservation system “SABRE” in 1960 for American airlines. While sage was the first computer system in the world, its deficiencies led to the development of ARPANET. These systems formed the foundations for the internet and the development of other computer programs in aerospace, any deficiency led to the invention of a new program, giving birth to programming, CAD, and CAM that brought about simulations. Aerospace computing has evolved over the years and is now carrying the whole weight of the aerospace industry. Before the launch of any space vehicle or satellite, simulation has become a necessary step, checking for weaknesses for corrections to be done on the ground. Besides, computer simulation has been essential in training, facilitating the training of pilots worldwide. This article presents more information regarding the application of AI in aerospace computing, flight simulations, and their advantages in the aerospace industry.

Abstract:
Purpose This paper aims to investigate the optimal price and service rate decisions in a customer-intensive service, where customers’ perceived service quality decreases in the service speed. Customers are assumed to be forward-looking in purchase decision-making and heterogeneous in their reservation utilities. The purpose of this paper is to study the impact of customers’ forward-looking behavior and the heterogeneity on the operational decisions in a customer-intensive context. Design/methodology/approach The service is delivered through an M/M/1 queue system with unobservable queues. Customers are forward-looking in queue joining decisions, where the purchase decisions are made when the expected utility is greater than the reservation utility. The optimal price and service rate decisions are analyzed with both homogeneous and heterogeneous customers, where homogenous customers have the same reservation utility in purchase decision-making, while heterogeneous customers have different reservation utilities, which are captured by a random variable. Findings The optimal price and service rate decisions with forward-looking customers depend on the customer intensity, potential market size and customers’ reservation utility distribution. The results suggest that customers’ heterogeneity in terms of their reservation utilities affects the optimal decisions, market coverage and the expected revenue. Service providers need to take customers’ heterogeneity and the forward-looking behavior into operational decision-making. Originality/value This paper extends previous studies in customer-intensive service and contribute to the service operations management area by explicitly incorporating customers’ forward-looking behavior and heterogeneity in purchase decision-making. Assuming customers are forward-looking and heterogeneous is more realistic and practical. The results highlight that knowing customers’ behavioral characteristics can better improve decision-making in service operations, which is critical for enhancing customers’ satisfaction and loyalty, thus critical to a firm’s success in the market with intensive competition.

Abstract:
Procedures for interactively employing captured images for virtual world construction are described using prototypes of two applications for virtual shopping. Virtual reality technology, especially the image based rendering technique, enables us to exhibit products in a sophisticated way. With a concert ticket reservation system the customer can check the view of the stage from any seat. These images are synthesized from captured images and are not created from less realistic computer graphics. With a catalog shopping system that uses captured images to show products, the customer can observe them stereoscopically and vary the viewing angle interactively. These systems are implemented into kiosktype terminals. Purchases can be made with IC-card type electronic cash.

Abstract:
An accurate management of the interactions among end user, electric vehicle, and charging station during recharge is fundamental for the diffusion of electric mobility. The paper proposes an extension of the Open Charge Point Protocol standard with the aim of including the user in the charging optimization process. The user negotiates with the central station a recharge reservation giving his/her preference and flexibility. The charging station management system provides different solutions based on user’s flexibility. This negotiation allows the optimization of the power grid management considering the user requests and constraints. The complete architecture has been designed, implemented on a web server and on a smartphone app, and tested. Results are reported in this work.

Abstract:
With the development of wireless communication and artificial intelligence technology, online parking reservation system can effectively save drivers’ searching time for vacant spaces. However, in the environment with multiple candidate parking lots around the destination, how to coordinate and maximize parking space resources to reduce the travel time is still a practical issue for urban drivers. In order to solve this problem, a collaborative reservation mechanism based on dynamic vehicle path planning is proposed in this paper. By the aid of the dedicated backbone network with a clear division of work responsibilities, the information of traffic and parking lots is collected in real time, based on which the travel time prediction and empty spaces evaluation are executed separately, and then the optimal decision of path planning and parking lot selection can be made and adjusted dynamically by a step-by-step acknowledgement mechanism. The simulation results show that, based on collaborative working and overall planning, our proposed reservation mechanism can effectively raise the utilization rate of the parking lots resources and significantly reduce the travel time for drivers under different traffic environments. Compared to current mechanisms, the collaborative parking reservation mechanism reveals higher feasibility and applicability. It can assist in design and operation of urban traffic management and space resource utilization.

Abstract:
Performance analysis derived from a formal specification of a multimedia protocol provides important information on the performance characteristics of a multimedia system before implementation; this information includes time-dependent functional behaviours, and statistical traffic characteristics. We have developed an extended Estelle, called Time-Estelle, suitable for specifying time-dependent performance characteristic of a multimedia system, and a method based on GSPN (Generalized Stochastic Petri Net) for analysing the performance of a protocol specified in Time-Estelle. This paper describes an application of this method to analyse the performance of an industrial multimedia protocol, the Resource ReSerVation Protocol (RSVP) specified in Time-Estelle; it also presents the performance analysis results which are expressed in terms of blocking probability, packet dropping probability, channel utilisation and packet delay, with variations in time intervals.

Abstract:
Abstract The software and hardware of Safety Critical Systems - SCS, which control special critical technology process or operation, are subject of enhanced requirements for reliability and inadmissibility of any incorrect controlling influences (safety) after failures. This paper suggests and investigates a hybrid computerbased fail-safe/fault-tolerance FST-structure with single reservation, which has the qualities to meet these requirements. The base system 2 ∨ 2, based on which it is built, is studied in the previous edition of Information Technjlogies and Control. For derivation of probabilistic models through which to establish the efficiency of the strutucral redundancy in a fault-tolerant structure, in this paper are used the published results. Formulas are derived for the probability of failure-free operation (availability coefficient), for safe failure and for unidentified (dangerous) failure. Models are found for calculation of the enhancement of reliability and the variation of safety relative to the base system 2 ∨ 2. Subject of analysis are type software and hardware modifications of the proposed general scheme used in the practice of different companies, which manufacture and operate SCSs. It is proven that at the expense of acceptable hardware redundancy and insignificant increase of dangerous failures the probability of interruption of the operation of the FST- system and its down-time due to failure may decrease by tenths of thousands of times.

Abstract:
The article deals with the structure of the modern information technology system used in the tourism industry. It is emphasized that the use of information technology in each separate segment of the tourism industry, such as hotels, ticket reservations, the creation of specialized tourist products, is interlinked with all others. The purpose of the article is to reveal the peculiarities of the using of modern information technologies in the tourism industry. It was established that the introduction of information technology in the tourism industry took place in four stages, from the creation of data, through the direct development of information technologies , the development of strategic information systems and the integration of individual IT components in a network of different levels, from local to global. It is revealed that the majority of tourist enterprises use both standard and special software in their activity. For tourism enterprises to carry out marketing activities successfully, the information market offers technologies aimed at the process of automating the accumulation of survey results, planning and developing a marketing strategy. One of the most important elements in the tourism industry is computer reservation systems, which eventually integrated into global booking systems. These systems provide not only transport services, but also hotel accommodation, cruise trips, location information, bus, rail and air connections, exchange rates, weather reports, etc., allowing one to reserve all major components of the tour. Tour operators use several classic approaches to building a reservation system. The features of the market of tourist services, the specific characteristics of the services themselves and the peculiarities of their perception by consumers determine the specifics of marketing in this area. The use of information technologies, in particular the Internet, enables businesspeople and marketers to explore new market opportunities for their travel services, to highlight and explore various market segments (geographic, demographic, professional, organizational, behavioural, etc.). Tracking relevant information can be used to predict the future development of consumer demand and identify new trends in the behaviour of existing and potential customers. The use of geoinformation systems opens up broad prospects for engineering justification and design of new tourist routes and recreational areas, the publication of thematic tourist maps and the creation of web atlases, etc. Thus, thanks to information technologies, a single tourist information space is created that allows all players in the tourist market to quickly receive real information.

Abstract:
Filter bank multi-carrier with offset quadrature amplitude modulation (FBMC-OQAM) system is a very efficient multicarrier modulation technique for 5G, but it suffers as all multicarriers designs from large peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). Tone reservation (TR) is a method designed to solve this problem by reserving several subcarriers called tones in the frequency domain to generate a cancellation signal in the time domain to eliminate high peaks. In this paper, we suggest a serial combination of tone reservation (TR) method with an enhanced version of clipping called deep clipping (DC) method (TR&DC) to enhance the peaks (PAPR) mitigation in FBMC-OQAM signal model without significantly impacting the quality of transmission. Numerical results and analysis show that the new TR&DC approach allows better overall performance and offers remarkable gain in term of PAPR mitigation than the TR method, with similar BER performance to TR over additive white gaussian noise channel and Rapp HPA model.
