Abstract:
The field of computer vision is increasingly becoming an active area of research with tremendous efforts being put towards giving computers the capability of sight. As human beings we are able to see, distinguish between different objects based on their unique features and even trace their movements if they are within our view. For computers to really see they also need to have the capability of identifying different objects and equally track them. This paper focuses on that aspect of identifying objects which the user chooses; the object chosen is differentiated from other objects by comparison of pixel characteristics. The chosen object is then to be tracked with a bounding box for ease of identification of the object's location. A real time video feed captured by a web camera is to be utilized and it’s from this environment visible within the camera view that an object is to be selected and tracked. The scope of this paper mainly focuses on the development of a software application that will achieve real time object tracking. The software module will allow the user to identify the object of interest someone wishes to track, while the algorithm employed will enable noise and size filtering for ease of tracking of the object.

Abstract:
In recent years considerable attention has been diverted towards devising new strategies to deal with the competitive nature of manufacturing environments. Such strategies are often influenced by the costs and quality of the manufactured products. An effective tool management and control system can significantly contribute to the efficiency of manufacturing facilities by maintaining the flow of production, reducing manufacturing costs, and be instrumental to the quality of finished goods. Most companies however, have consistently overlooked the importance of tooling and its impact on the efficiency of their manufacturing facilities, consequently it has become a maior production bottleneck. Hence, the need for uncovering the nature, extent, and underlying causes of tooling problems. Having recognised the importance of a Computer Aided Tool Management And Control Systems (CATMACS) as a partial solution to the efficient management of tooling resources, the study then looks at the implementation of CATMACS in fourteen manufacturing companies in the UK, developing some 40 propositions. Based on the developed propositions, a framework for the implementation methodology is constructed. The framework consists of five phases; Tool audit, Strategy, Design, Action, and Review. The framework has been evaluated and the inputs and outputs to the phases have been identified. The framework represents a significant step in understanding of CATMACS implementation, in particular: <ul> <li>It addresses the need for such system.</li> <li>It provides the basis of an implementation toolkit.</li> <li>It provides guidance for the best way of implementing a CATMACS.</li> <li>It is constructed using hard data.</li> </ul>

Chiang, Ken H. "A prototype implementation of a time interval file protection system in Linux." Thesis, Monterey, California. Naval Postgraduate School, 2006. http://hdl.handle.net/10945/2359.

Full text
Abstract:
Control of access to information based on temporal attributes has many potential applications. Examples include student user accounts set to expire upon graduation; files marked as time-sensitive so that their contents can be protected appropriately and the period of access to them controlled; and cryptographic keys configured to automatically expire and be unusable beyond a specific time. This thesis implements a prototype of the Time Interval Access Control (TIAC) model in the context of a protected file system for the popular open-source Linux operating system. The Linux Security Module framework is used for the implementation, which includes temporal attributes associated both with the files and the users. The implementation includes modifications to the file system as well as low-level information access constructs. As part of the design process, testing and performance analysis were conducted. Since the temporal access control mechanism is built into the kernel rather than the application, bypassing the mechanism becomes more difficult. Kernel level implementation also affords the same policy enforcement functionality to different applications, thus reducing human errors in their development. This thesis is relevant to the research on dynamic security services for information protection envisioned by the DoD Global Information Grid (GIG).

Abstract:
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) uses about 600 digital cameras along populated Indiana highways in order to monitor highway traffic conditions. The videos from these cameras are currently observed by human operators looking for traffic conditions and incidents. However, it is time-consuming for the operators to scan through all video data from all the cameras in real-time. The main objective of this research was to develop an automatic and real-time system and implement the system at INDOT to monitor traffic conditions and detect incidents automatically. The Transportation and Autonomous Systems Institute (TASI) of the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and the INDOT Traffic Management Center have worked together to research and develop a system that monitors the traffic conditions based on the INDOT CCTV video feeds. The proposed system performs traffic flow estimation, incident detection, and the classification of vehicles involved in an incident. The goal was to develop a system and prepare for future implementation. The research team designed the new system, including the hardware and software components, the currently existing INDOT CCTV system, the database structure for traffic data extracted from the videos, and a user-friendly web-based server for identifying individual lanes on the highway and showing vehicle flowrates of each lane automatically. The preliminary prototype of some system components was implemented in the 2018–2019 JTRP projects, which provided the feasibility and structure of the automatic traffic status extraction from the video feeds. The 2019–2021 JTRP project focused on developing and improving many features’ functionality and computation speed to make the program run in real-time. The specific work in this 2021–2022 JTRP project is to improve the system further and implement it on INDOT’s premises. The system has the following features: vehicle-detection, road boundary detection, lane detection, vehicle count and flowrate detection, traffic condition detection, database development, web-based graphical user interface (GUI), and a hardware specification study. The research team has installed the system on one computer in INDOT for daily road traffic monitoring operations.
