Abstract:
A methodology and algorithm for determining the optimal volume of repairs with known cyclicity of repair production and between-repair runs of mainline diesel locomotives of the TE10 series and the UzTE16M series in various sectional designs is presented. The basic component of this methodology is the dynamic programming method in combination with the reliability characteristics of diesel locomotive components and probabilistic and statistical methods for their calculation. Planning of optimal volumes of repairs is carried out on the basis of a minimax criterion based on the value of the total operating costs for the maintenance of each repair unit of a diesel locomotive. It is recommended to continue this research with the aim of drawing up block diagrams and developing working programs for computer hardware and software systems and computers with their subsequent implementation in the practice of working the locomotive complex of the Uzbek Railway.

Allowing several imperfect repairs before a perfect repair can lead to a highly reliable and efficient system by reducing repair time and repair cost. Assuming exponential lifetime and exponential repair time, we determine the optimal probability $p$ of choosing a perfect repair over an imperfect repair after each failure. Based on either the limiting availability or the limiting average repair cost per unit time, we determine the optimal number of imperfect repairs before conducting a perfect repair.

Abstract:
Assuming exponential lifetime and repair time distributions, we study the limiting availability A∞ as well as the per unit time-limiting profit ω of a one-unit system having two identical, cold standby spare units using semi-Markov processes. The failed unit is repaired either by an in-house repairer within an exponential patience time T or by an external expert who works faster but charges more. When there are two repair facilities, we allow the regular repairer to begin repair or to continue repair beyond T if the expert is busy. Two models arise accordingly as the expert repairs one or all failed units during each visit. We show that (1) adding a second spare to a one-unit system already backed by a spare raises A∞ as well as ω; (2) thereafter, adding a second repair facility improves both criteria further. Finally, we determine whether the expert must repair one or all failed units to maximize these criteria and fulfill the maintenance management objectives better than previously studied models.

Abstract:
This paper proposes three age-dependent preventive maintenance models with imperfect repair and/or imperfect preventive maintenance (pm). In these models imperfect repair is treated in a way that after repair the lifetime of a unit will decrease to a fraction of its immediately previous one and its repair time will increase to a multiple of immediately previous one. In this paper, the expected maintenance cost rate and asymptotic average availability are derived with a consideration that the maintenance and repair times are not negligible. The optimum maintenance policies are then determined for the three imperfect maintenance models respectively. A class of related optimization problems is also discussed. Finally, a numerical example is presented to illustrate the results.

Abstract:
Background/Objectives: Because of poor or inadequate regulations, long-term repair arrangements do not often reflect the management needs of multi-family housing complexes. This study gives political improvement suggestions for multi-family housing complex long-term repair plans that included establishment, reviews, plan coordination, and maintenance reserve accumulation and execution. Methods: Long-term repair plan and reserve accounting documents for multi-family housing complexes from 1994 to 2021 were examined using frequency and percentage. The Multi-family Housing Management Act of South Korea includes an obligation to have long-term repair plans for the targeted multi-family housing complexes. Results: 1) The long-term repair plan execution funds needed in 2020 were calculated by the Korean Housing Managers’ Association’s computer program and found to be 3.64 times greater than in 1994. 2) The long-term repair reserve was used in part for elevators and CCTV and fire fighting equipment repairs; however, no legal repair periods were considered. 3) The long-term repair reserve rate was highest 20 to 30 years after construction, at which time residents find the required expenses difficult to afford. Conclusion/Implications: The case study highlighted several problems: (1) missed work types when the long-term repair plan was established; (2) insufficient repair reserve accumulation because of the Multi-family Housing Management Act regulation that states that repairs need only commence one year after construction and limits repairs to some work types to three to 20%; and (3) no unified area standard for long-term repair plans and K-APT reserves, which altered long-term plans to short-term plans and had three years of field application review and coordination.

Abstract:
A framework is presented for incorporating maintenance into a dependability analysis methodology for computer-based systems. Two types of maintenance are considered: failure-driven maintenance and time-driven maintenance. Failure-driven maintenance or repair is carried out when the system (or component) performance deviates from its expected performance and consists of all tasks performed to restore the functional capabilities of failed items, principally diagnosis and repair. Time-driven or scheduled maintenance is conducted on a specific time schedule in order to prevent system failure. There may be dependencies between different components of a system with regard to their maintenance plans. These dependencies arise either because a component has maintenance priority over one or more components or because the maintenance of a certain component implies the maintenance of other components. Constructs are presented for modelling these dependencies in the context of dynamic fault tree analysis and a methodology is developed for solving the fault tree. The dynamic fault tree constructs effectively capture the failure dependencies between components. The approach is illustrated with an example based on a water deluge system.

Abstract:
Preventive Maintenance with Imperfect Repairs of a System with Redundant ObjectsAn object ability to realise tasks may be restored by repairing only failed components. This is called imperfect repair, as the object is not as good as new after such a repair. Preventive replacement is an example of imperfect repair as well. The advantage of such maintenance is that it enables controlling a reliability level of a system. Sets of objects' components that should be replaced are derived on a basis of statistical diagnosing with use of data about components failures. The acceptable level of a failure risk while executing transportation tasks has been taken as a criterion of choosing elements to be replaced. An algorithm of selecting components for preventive replacement has been developed. It was shown that a level of system reliability could be controlled by changing an order of a quintile function in coordination and a number of redundant objects. A computer simulation model of the system was used to illustrate derived dependencies.

Abstract:
The authors' company is a medium-sized engineering company specializing in naval ship repair. The bulk of corporate work centers on the Phased Maintenance (PM) of three classes of ships. Typically, each PM contract covers three to five different ships per class scheduled for 90-day Availabilities at approximately one-year intervals over a period of five years. The type of work to be performed during each Phased Maintenance Availability (PMA) falls into one of two categories: ship alterations or ship repairs. The first group, ship alterations, is characterized by detailed, long-lead engineering and planning efforts, typically beginning 540 days prior to the vessels's arrival. The second group, ship repairs, makes up the other end of the spectrum with short lead times and compressed service details. The majority of repair items are identified 60 days prior to an Availability, while some are not determined until after the vessel has arrived in the shipyard. The engineering department that services PMA work is composed of three disciplines: structural, mechanical and electrical. The mechanical discipline is further subdivided into the areas of machinery and piping/HVAC. While the nature of PMA work within each discipline is peculiar to the application, the process is similar in each. Reference information is gathered and verified, technical analysis is provided where necessary, and detailed drawings are prepared and submitted for Navy approval prior to shipyard production. All drawings are developed using two-dimensional drafting techniques at various sites by teams of computer-aided design (CAD) input operators utilizing color graphic workstations on a multi-shift basis as required by the workload. Completed drawings are transferred to the engineering site over a network link, where additional workstations are available for engineers to check and correct them as necessary

This paper proposes a design methodology for self-maintenance machines. The self-maintenance machine is a machine that can maintain its functions for a while, even though faults happen. In order to achieve capabilities for diagnosing and repair planning, a model based approach that employs qualitative physics is proposed. Regarding repair execution, two types of repair strategies are proposed; viz., control type and functional redundancy type which is a strategy to add redundancy to a machine from a viewpoint of function. A prototype of the self-maintenance machine is developed. Because this machine uses the control type of repair strategy, it succeeded to maintain its functions as far as its structure does not change. A promising candidate for dealing with faults that involve structural changes is the functional redundancy type of repair.

Abstract:
The maintenance of critical infrastructure is a costly necessity that developing countries often struggle to deliver timely repairs. The transport system acts as the arteries of any economy in development, and the formation of potholes on roads can lead to injuries and the loss of lives. Recently, several countries have enabled pothole reporting platforms for their citizens, so that repair work data can be centralised and visible for everyone. Nevertheless, many of these platforms have been interrupted because of the rapid growth of requests made by users. Not only have these platforms failed to filter duplicate or fake reports, but they have also failed to classify their severity, albeit that this information would be key in prioritising repair work and improving the safety of roads. In this work, we aimed to develop a prioritisation system that combines deep learning models and traditional computer vision techniques to automate the analysis of road irregularities reported by citizens. The system consists of three main components. First, we propose a processing pipeline that segments road sections of repair requests with a UNet-based model that integrates a pretrained Resnet34 as the encoder. Second, we assessed the performance of two object detection architectures—EfficientDet and YOLOv5—in the task of road damage localisation and classification. Two public datasets, the Indian Driving Dataset (IDD) and the Road Damage Detection Dataset (RDD2020), were preprocessed and augmented to train and evaluate our segmentation and damage detection models. Third, we applied feature extraction and feature matching to find possible duplicated reports. The combination of these three approaches allowed us to cluster reports according to their location and severity using clustering techniques. The results showed that this approach is a promising direction for authorities to leverage limited road maintenance resources in an impactful and effective way.

Abstract:
Maintenance outsourcing is quite common in industries that rely on complex and critical equipment. Instead of investing in the maintenance facilities, firms outsource maintenance activities to specialized companies. However, it may be hard for firms (i.e., principal) to observe whether maintenance companies (i.e., agent) put sufficient resources into providing the best service, which gives rise to agency issues. In a dynamic environment in which an agent is responsible for both maintenance and repair of a critical machine, how the principal uses payments and termination to tackle agency issues is a challenging problem. In “Optimal Contract for Machine Repair and Maintenance,” F. Tian, P. Sun, and I. Duenyas provide theoretical guidance on designing the optimal contract to induce efforts from an agent to efficiently operate a machine. Although they consider the very general contract forms, the optimal contracts demonstrate simple and intuitive structures, making them easy to describe and implement in practice.

Abstract:
The necessity for computerization is currently growing quickly because computers are now necessary for all needs connected to business and daily life. Therefore, users' ability to quickly and easily access information seems to be hindered by maintenance and repairs. An expert system is a computer-based method that uses facts, knowledge, and reasoning to solve issues that are often best handled by a subject-matter expert. Expert systems are created for expertise that is close to human capabilities in a given sector. A computer expert currently needs a lot of time to diagnose computer damage, and even technicians frequently put off their work in order to come up with fixes. Forward chaining was used in the construction of this system. In order to derive conclusions, forward chaining is employed to test the given factors against the recorded rules in the system. As a result, this expert system was developed to assist users in dealing with the damage and early maintenance that frequently affect computer systems. using computers in everyday tasks. If we are familiar with the Forward Chaining method used by the expert system to trace computer damage, the known crash features to address frequent crashes on that PC, and the application in object-oriented programming languages such as Visual Basic 6.0, we can determine where the damage is located.

Abstract:
The article considers the current state of the system of maintenance and repair of agricultural machinery, shows the analysis of the existing system and its impact on the economic efficiency of production in the agro-industrial complex. The current state of instrumentation, electronics and computer technology can significantly increase and expand the possibilities of both diagnosing and forecasting based on it. The combination of these capabilities with the progress of agricultural machinery ensures its reliable, highly productive and economical operation. It is established that of great importance in the production of crop and livestock products is the qualified use of agricultural machinery, including its diagnosis, maintenance and technological maintenance and repair. The quantity and quality of the received production, its competitiveness, labor costs, fuel consumption and degree of influence on environment depend on quality and timeliness of carrying out service – diagnostics at technical and technological service. Improving the use of agricultural machinery and reducing the cost of its operation provides the use of technical diagnostics of machines as an information basis for the management of maintenance and repair processes. The practice of using diagnostic tools indicates the possibility of reducing operating costs. This is achieved by increasing the actual resource used, reducing the number of repairs and saving spare parts. To effectively apply existing diagnostics and development of new, engineering and technical workers of agricultural enterprises must have knowledge that reveals the fundamental side of the diagnosis. Measures of preventive influences which provide maintenance of necessary indicators of reliability and working capacity of cars during time of use are executed on a scientific basis, practical use and research of processes of wear and other deviations of details are developed.

Abstract:
Mean time to failure of modern machinery and equipment, their individual parts and components can be calculated over the years. Methods for determining the optimal frequency of maintenance and repair, based on the collection and processing of information about the reliability of industrial facilities, during their testing in laboratories and at special sites, as well as through long, operational tests require considerable time and become expensive. The purpose of this work is to develop methods for processing information about the reliability of equipment in automated systems for maintenance and repair, which will reduce the time to collect information on equipment failures and improve the cost-effectiveness of maintenance and repair. Small, multiple-censored right-side samples of equipment operating time for failure are formed as a result of failure data collection in an automated system for equipment maintenance and repair. Calculation of reliability indicators for such samples is performed using the maximum likelihood estimation method. The article presents experimental studies of the accuracy of the maximum likelihood estimates of the parameter of the exponential distribution law for small, multiple right-censored samples. The studies were carried out by computer modeling of censored samples, similar to samples that are formed when monitoring equipment during operation. Methods of simulation modeling of random processes on a computer and methods of regression analysis were used. Analysis show that most of the maximum likelihood estimates obtained from small, multiple-censored right-side samples have significant deviations from the true values. A technique for improving the accuracy of maximum likelihood estimates is proposed. The scientific novelty is regression models are constructed that establish the relationship between the deviation of the maximum likelihood estimate from the true value and the parameters characterizing the sample structure. These models calculate and introduce corrections to maximum likelihood estimates. The use of the developed regression models will reduce the time to collect information about the reliability of the equipment, while maintaining the reliability of the results.

This paper presents an integrated model to determine the optimal sales price, preventive maintenance (PM) interval and warranty period with the objective of maximizing the total profit. It is assumed that the sales growth can be featured by NHPP-Bass model over the time. Production cost, R&D cost and warranty cost involving product reliability are considered in this integrated profit model. Then, we consider a periodic PM policy, minimal repair and replacement policy in this paper and the product is deteriorated with the time goes. We also consider effects of the repair time of the repairable product. During the warranty period, manufacturer conducts the PM periodically, and if the repair time is beyond the limited repair time, the failure is replaced with a new product attached renewed warranty period. If not, the failed product is conducted with only minimal repair. Moreover, we give the numerical example and the sensitive analysis to provide insights into the influence of sales price, warranty period and PM interval.

AbstractComputer systems supporting the management of machines operation and maintenance in companies have been successfully applied in many branches of industry. Over the last few years these systems have been considerably transformed. It also seems that using them for operating mining machines in hard coal mines is inevitable, as maintenance generates high production costs. If implemented, the systems will allow for optimization of stocks, spare parts and materials, supplies, outsourced services as well as maintenance-repair works. Application of a system supporting the management of mining machines/equipment will also enable a better, more effective use of employees. As a result of these actions, the time needed for preparations and repair will be shortened, which will translate directly into the economic effects of mines.

Abstract:
The presented review analyzes the approaches and methods of using simulation models in the maintenance and repair organization of the complex technical objects and systems. The development of the concept of "Industry 4.0" and the Internet of things involves the transition from periodic and preventive maintenance to predictive maintenance based on the study of processes during the object operation. It is shown that system models based on Petri nets are convenient for describing and analyzing technological processes and equipment maintenance. The effectiveness of timed stochastic colored Petri nets for virtual tests in the design of maintenance and repair procedures in complex systems is revealed. The use of hierarchical Petri nets allows building complex models that describe interrelated processes. A general model based on a hierarchical network is proposed to study the processes of deterioration and degradation of the technical object aggregates and elements and to form a predictive maintenance strategy. The model includes a Gantt chart of production tasks, a set of active and reserve units, maintenance and repair modules. The examples of simulation models on Petri nets for various technical systems are considered. Solutions for flexible production systems, railway bridges, offshore wind turbines, an aircraft fleet, a group of robotic vehicles, and a complex of computer equipment of an enterprise are given. The models of various maintenance strategies are considered and the generality of the models based on hierarchical Petri nets is shown. The article formulates methodological principles for constructing hierarchical networks to simulate the operation and maintenance of technical systems. The article analyzes known software tools for the implementation of timed stochastic colored Petri nets. The summary concludes that the use of simulation models on Petri nets is promising for organizing maintenance and repair of complex technical objects and systems.

The global community networking movement promotes locally-managed network infrastructure as a strategy for affordable Internet connectivity. This case study investigates a group of collectively managed WiFi Internet networks in Argentina and the technologists who design the networking hardware and software. Members of these community networks collaborate on maintenance and repair and practice new forms of collective work. Drawing on Actor-Network Theory, we show that the networking technologies play a role in the social relations of their maintenance and that they are intentionally configured to do so. For technology designers and deployers, we suggest a path beyond designing for easy repair: since every breakdown is an opportunity to learn, we should design for accessible repair experiences that enable effective collaborative learning.

The 'total time on test' (TTT) concept has proven to be a very useful tool in many reliability applications. The graphical method based on this concept gives geometrical interpretations to solutions of stochastic maintenance problems as well as estimates of the optimal policies directly from empirical failure or repair data. In fact, some renewal type of maintenance models such as age replacement and burn-in problems have been analyzed by applying the TTT concept. In this paper, we discuss a repair limit replacement problem with a cost constraint for determining the optimal cost–limit to stop repairing a unit after it fails. Two solution methods for the problem are proposed: one is a straightforward/algebraic method and the other is a geometrical one based on the TTT concept. Also, we develop a computer software to calculate numerically the optimal repair-cost limit policies or its estimates by using the function of computer graphics, and refer to its educational effect throughout numerical examples.

Abstract:
The repair rate is a very important parameter for system maintainability and can be defined as a frequency of successfully performed repair actions on a failed component per unit of time. This paper analyzes the integral characteristics of a stochastic repair rate for corresponding values of availability in a system operating under maintenance contracts. The probability density function (PDF) of the repair rate has been studied extensively and it was concluded that it is not a symmetric function so its mean value does not correspond to its maximum. Based on that, the equation for the envelope line of the PDF maximums of the repair rate has been provided. Namely, instead of repair rate PDF equations, we can use envelope line parameters for certain calculations, which are expressed in a simpler mathematical form. That will reduce time required for calculations and prediction and enhance reactions in failure events. Further, for the analytical and numerical evaluation of a system performance, the annual repair rate PDFs are analyzed, such as particular solutions of corresponding differential equation, while the existence of a singular solution is considered and analyzed under different conditions. Moreover, we derived optimal values of availability for which the PDF maximums have been obtained. Finally, in order to generalize the behavior of the repair process, a partial differential equation, as a function of the repair rate process and availability parameter, has been formed.

The efficiency of road transport is based on the reliability of the vehicle fleet, as well as the safety of its operation, which is ensured by the timely diagnosis of faults and the quality of maintenance and related repairs. Despite constant technical progress in the field of automotive industry, creation of technological equipment for maintenance and repair of the vehicle fleet, as well as new reasonable approaches to operation, the problem of developing an integrated system for managing the operation of road transport in order to ensure road safety remains urgent. In addition to the collection, storage and primary data processing module, such a system should include a specialized decision support module. In this regard, the scientific goal of the work is formulated—the development of an intelligent core for the management system for vehicles’ technical inspection. The mathematical model of the functioning of the technical inspection point is based. On its basis, the simulation model is constructed. The goal function is the amount of revenue from the provision of technical inspection and subsequent repair, minus losses due to equipment and workers idle time. Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to represent replacement policies (rules) in the form of a matrix. Visualization of replacement rules is useful for maintenance records. Matrix representation is more effective than the verbal description usually provided, as it allows better understanding of the specifics of the different replacement rules without careful research of their mathematical models. Design/methodology/approach – This approach employs mathematical models to investigate the simple conditions (requirements) for replacement of system component with illustrative examples. When comparing the different replacement rules a cost structure is applied to takes into account the nature and technology of disassembly assembly actions for the repair unit. Findings – Representation of replacement rules in the matrix form is useful when describing planned replacement models, opportunity replacement models, group replacement models and others, as well as computer modeling of the renewal process. Forming simple conditions for the replacement of system components ensures the total average repair cost is minimized. These conditions can be applied in the early stages of creating a maintenance program for the machine. Practical implications – Replacement matrices can be specified in a technical manual for maintenance of machines to achieve reliable operation and to reduce repair costs. Replacement matrices can be put into practical use for maintenance records and may be included in the maintenance procedures library of CMMSs. Developed in the paper, the replacement matrix, the conditions for replacement of system components and the cost structure will help engineers to make decisions at the time of repair for assembly units. Originality/value – Proposed in the paper is a new approach to the visualization of the replacement rules and cost structure which simplifies the analysis of options for repair actions. The proposed technique contributes to the record of maintenance actions and the decision making process for replacement.

Abstract:
The paper addresses repairable multi-unit systems with a series–parallel configuration for which maintenance strategies are modeled by generalized stochastic Petri nets (GSPN) with predicates coupled with Monte Carlo simulation. Four maintenance strategies consisting of basic periodic preventive and corrective maintenance, and both combined with opportunistic maintenance (OM) strategies, are considered. Failure and repair distributions of the system components are independent, and repairs are considered to be perfect. Times to failure of degraded components follow a Weibull distribution with increasing failure rate over time. The maintenance strategies are optimized so as to minimize the total maintenance costs of the system while maximizing availability. A comparison is drawn between OM and non-OM. The aim is to show that GSPN with predicates, in combination with Monte Carlo simulation, is a powerful, flexible, efficient, and intuitive approach for modeling and optimizing practical maintenance strategies on multi-unit complex systems, modeling the dynamic behavior resulting from the interaction between system components and economic dependencies. The merits and advantages of GSPN coupled with Monte Carlo simulation are enhanced relative to other, analytical, approaches.

Abstract:
When heavy rain strikes Taiwan, it always results in cracks in road pavement, and damages arising from potholes. Tremendously compromising road safety, road users may have fatal accidents caused by untimely repair actions. The road maintenance department needs to take the responsibilities for road sections in the form of inspections and faces the decision about how to properly allocate available resources to repair pavement damages immediately. When performing pavement repair works, we need to consider the resource consumption behavior and explore the mechanism of replenishing resources and calculating the return time. Therefore, in order to help maintenance units to deal with consumable resource issues, this study proposes a novel approach to offer the mechanism of consumable resource calculation, which is difficult to solve through the traditional vehicle routing problem (VRP) approach. This proposed model treats the pothole repair problem as a resource-constrained project scheduling problem (RCPSP), which is capable of resolving such consumable resource considerations. The proposed model was developed by adopting constraint programming (CP) techniques. Research results showed that the proposed model is capable of providing the optimal decisions of pavement pothole repair tasks and also meets practical requirements to make appropriate adjustment, and helps the maintenance unit to shorten total repair duration and optimize resource assignment decisions of pavement maintenance objectives.

Abstract:
All kinds of vessels consist of dozens of complex machineries with rotating parts and electric motors that operate continuously in harsh environments with excess temperature, humidity, vibration, fatigue, and load. A breakdown or malfunction in one of these machineries can significantly impact a vessel’s operation and safety and, consequently, the safety of the crew and the environment. To maintain operational efficiency and seaworthiness, the shipping industry invests substantial resources in preventive maintenance and repairs. This study presents the economic and technical benefits of predictive maintenance over traditional preventive maintenance and repair by replacement approaches in the maritime domain. By leveraging modern technology and artificial intelligence, we can analyze the operating conditions of machinery by obtaining measurements either from sensors permanently installed on the machinery or by utilizing portable measuring instruments. This facilitates the early identification of potential damage, thereby enabling efficient strategizing for future maintenance and repair endeavors. In this paper, we propose and develop a convolutional neural network that is fed with raw vibration measurements acquired in a laboratory environment from the ball bearings of a motor. Then, we investigate whether the proposed network can accurately detect the functional state of ball bearings and categorize any possible failures present, contributing to improved maintenance practices in the shipping industry.

Abstract:
With the ever-growing technology development, high-tech products such as mobile phones, computers, electromagnetic devices and smart devices are facing high design and production modification requirements with relatively shorter life cycles. For instance, every forthcoming smart phone goes out of production in a shorter period after its launch, followed by its next generation. The design of high-tech products requires high investments in smart and automated manufacturing technology to ensure higher production efficiency. For high-tech products with short life spans, the manufacturing performance-quality variable is an important design parameter that affects system reliability, production efficiency and manufacturing costs. Major performance-quality factors of a manufacturing system which affect productivity and reliability of the manufacturing process are discussed in this research. The study investigates an integrated smart production maintenance model under stochastic manufacturing reliability for technology dependent demand and variable production rate. The smart unit production cost is a function of manufacturing reliability and controllable production rate, as a manufacturing system can be operated at different production rates within designed limits μ ϵ [ μ m i n , μ m a x ] . Manufacturing reliability is increased through investment in smart manufacturing technology and resources. The integrated smart production maintenance model is formulated under general failure and repair time distributions and the optimal production maintenance policy is investigated under specific failure and repair time distributions. A mathematical model is developed to optimize the manufacturing quality-performance parameter, variable production rate, per unit technology investment and production lot size. The total cost function is optimized through the Khun–Tucker method. The mathematical model is also validated with numerical analysis, comparative study, and sensitivity analysis for model key parameters.

Availability is an important index for the evaluation of the performance of software aging systems. Although the corrective maintenance increases the system availability, the associated cost may be very high; therefore, the balancing of availability and cost during the corrective maintenance phase is a critical issue. This paper investigates optimal corrective maintenance policies via an availability-cost hybrid factor for software aging systems. The system is described by a group of coupled differential equations, where the multiplier effect of the repair rate on a system variable is bilinear term. Our aim is to drive an optimal repair rate that ensures a balance between the maximal system availability and the minimal repair cost. In a finite time interval [0,T], we rigorously discuss the state space of the system and prove the existence of the optimal repair rate, and then derive the first-order necessary optimality conditions by applying a variational inequality with the adjoint variables.

The maintenance of carrier-based aircraft is a critical factor restricting the availability of aircraft fleets and their capacity to sortie and operate. In this study, an aeronautical maintenance and repair task scheduling problem for carrier-based aircraft fleets in hangar bays is investigated to improve the maintenance efficiency of aircraft carrier hangar bays. First, the operational process of scheduling aeronautical maintenance tasks is systematically analyzed. Based on maintenance resource constraints and actual maintenance task requirements, a wave availability index and load balance index for the maintenance personnel are proposed for optimization. An aeronautical maintenance task scheduling model is formulated for carrier-based aircraft fleets. Second, model abstraction is performed to simulate a multi-skill resource-constrained project scheduling problem, and an improved teaching-learning-based optimization algorithm is proposed. The algorithm utilizes a serial scheduling generation scheme based on resource constraint advancement. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the modeling and algorithm are verified by using simulation cases and algorithm comparisons. The improved teaching-learning-based optimization algorithm exhibits improved solution stability and optimization performance. This method provides theoretical support for deterministic aeronautical maintenance scheduling planning and reduces the burden associated with manual scheduling and planning.

In developing the maintenance management information system, we proceeded from the possibility of qualitatively and effectively implementing the general goal of the technical operation subsystem. It consists in maintaining fleet performance and the need for developing recommendations on the implementation of measures aimed at ensuring quality and timely maintenance. A simulation model of the transportation company has been built. A plan-factor computer experiment was carried out, which allowed finding such parameter values (the number of repair workers, the age structure of the fleet, the permissible variation of the established maintenance frequency) that ensure a minimum of the goal function—the cost of the fleet operating. On the basis of the data obtained as a result of the simulating, it is possible to make recommendations on the rational management of the fleet maintenance system.
