Abstract:
Work-related musculoskeletal diseases (WMSDs) are on the rise as a result of excessive usage of desktop computers. People use computers in the office for communication, word processing, data processing, record keeping, and project management, among other applications. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of musculoskeletal discomfort (MSD) and related risk factors among university workers. This study explores the association between the severity of body discomfort and affected activities such as daily living and work. This study focused on musculoskeletal discomfort among support staff at University Malaysia Pahang who works in the office. There is 50 support staff (58 percent were females; 47 percent were males) who participated in this cross-sectional study. Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ) was used to gather data on personal characteristics, occupational conditions, and the prevalence of WMSDs. The intensity of pain was assessed using a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). This study found four body regions with the most pain experienced by office workers: neck, shoulders, upper back, and low back. The individual risk factors related to musculoskeletal discomfort are age, weight, and height. The occupational risk factors that are most significant are working experience, daily computer use, and virtual meetings during work from home (WFH). Work and leisure activities are the most affected by the pain experienced by the respondents. In terms of work aspects, this study determined that job performance is the most significantly affected due to musculoskeletal discomfort. This study gives office workers some awareness of risk factors related to musculoskeletal discomfort during prolonged computer use and prolonged sitting. Providing prolonged computer use guidelines to reduce musculoskeletal discomfort among office workers is highly recommended.

Abstract:
If one looks at the United States over the past sixty years, it becomes clear that religious and spiritual practices have proliferated in unexpected places and spaces. They have become thoroughly ensconced in the boardrooms, offices, shop floors, and retail spaces of business establishments. From there, they have seeped into just about every imaginable area of American life, turning schools, parks, shopping malls, sports stadiums, hospitals, gyms, health food restaurants, spas, and the very apps on our computers and cell phones into corporate spaces promising new and enticing forms of spiritual enchantment. The purpose of this essay is to document the way new forms of spirituality have become part of a much longer history of the entanglement of business and religion, a history that began in monasteries, formed the bedrock of the Puritan work ethic, and is now an established aspect of the neoliberal ideal of the privatization and corporatization of all aspects of human life.

Abstract:
This study is a literature study that discusses authentic assessment in the learning of Islamic religious education. Assessment that has been used in the assessment process at school is a traditional assessment, which tends to assess cognitive aspects, and ignores the affective and psychomotor aspects. Assessment should be able to assess all aspects, namely attitudes, skills, and knowledge. The purpose of this paper is to describe authentic assessments in the learning of Islamic Religious Education. The results of this study are descriptions of authentic assessments as an evaluation process of learning outcomes and student performance in applying it in real life. This is considered important because students are challenged to apply their knowledge and skills in real situations. This is because through authentic assessment teachers can also find out the extent of students' understanding and ability. With authentic assessment, the teacher will know the development of students from the data collected. In the use of authentic assessment, teachers are recommended to be able to operate computers, because the assessment format uses rubrics, and the teacher must also be prepared by making assessment formats used to evaluate students.

Abstract:
The professional development of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers is crucial to enhancing the quality of PAI learning in schools. One effective means to support their professional growth is through the utilization of technology as a learning medium and information source. This article aims to explore the use of technology by PAI teachers in their professional development, focusing on three key aspects: (1) The Importance of Integrating Technology in Teacher Professionalism; (2) Types and Functions of Technology Used by PAI Teachers; (3) Challenges Encountered by PAI Teachers in Advancing Professionalism through Technology. The research methodology used the qualitative method with the literature review approach, encompassing data collection and analysis from diverse sources such as journals, books, reports, and websites. The findings reveal that PAI teachers in Indonesia employ various technologies, including computers, laptops, smartphones, tablets, internet connectivity, social media platforms, applications, and software, for multiple purposes like information retrieval, communication, collaboration, content creation, presentation, and assessment of learning. The use of technology among PAI teachers yields several advantages, including the enhancement of knowledge, skills, motivation, creativity, networking opportunities, and learning resources. However, they face challenges related to limited infrastructure, access, costs, and support. Moreover, there's a lack of readiness, competence, and awareness regarding ethics and security among these educators. PAI teachers encounter difficulties, obstacles, and risks such as network disruptions, viruses, malware, spam, phishing, hacking, cyberbullying, and plagiarism. The challenges of utilizing technology for teacher professional development encompass skills, attitudes, infrastructure, and ethical considerations. Therefore, PAI teachers must possess adequate competence and readiness to integrate technology into their professional development.

Larson, Erik J. "The Myth of Artificial Intelligence: Why Computers Can't Think the Way We Do." Perspectives on Science and Christian Faith 73, no. 4 (December 2021): 247–48. http://dx.doi.org/10.56315/pscf12-21larson.

Abstract:
THE MYTH OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: Why Computers Can't Think the Way We Do by Erik J. Larson. Cambridge, MA: Belknap Press, 2021. 312 pages. Hardcover; $29.95. ISBN: 9780674983519. *The Myth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers a technical and philosophical introduction to AI with an emphasis on AI's limitations. Larson, a computer scientist and tech entrepreneur, keeps his central claim modest: true general AI is neither inevitable nor imminent, and if it is possible, it will require fundamentally new approaches. It is an easy read, combining references to fiction, history, and science. It lays out a bird's eye view of the origins and ideas behind current AI methods, focusing on general AI, a category of AI that would need to learn and engage with a wide variety of problems. *Separated into three parts, The Myth of AI begins with the history and algorithmic logic of AI, largely through the lens of the Turing test. Larson argues that we are not near the singularity (superintelligent computers able to create ever more intelligent machines) and that, in fact, the basic premise of the singularity is flawed. *The second part discusses inference. AI falls short of human intelligence because it can work with hard rules, but cannot make the guesses necessary to formulate new ones or handle uncertain rules. In attempts at the Turing test, AI can throw data at the problem but will always lack understanding. Achieving the understanding necessary for true intelligence will require an approach fundamentally different from recent advances made in AI, which are only effective for narrow AI (a category of AI for solving specialized problems) and not general AI. *The final, and relatively brief, part examines AI in science. According to Larson's assessment, new scientific research relies heavily on newly available computation power and big data in order to use narrow AI to its full extent. Larson claims that this approach will hinder development of new theories. He also claims that this leads to treating scientists as if they were computers as well, which causes overvaluing the system of science above people. He criticizes "swarm science," which he describes as a large group of scientists approaching one problem with a variety of projects, emphasizing this collaboration over the individuals. Instead, he claims, we need our culture to continue to emphasize individual discovery and intelligence, as it is the key to innovation. *Through the discussions of the history, philosophy, and logic of AI in the first two parts of the book, Larson disentangles the hype of AI from what is actually possible with current technology. Even as he sheds light on the gap between the singularity prediction and what machine learning is truly capable of, he emphasizes the significance of the myth. "The myth is an emotional lighthouse by which we navigate the AI topic" (p. 76). The stories we tell through predictions and science fiction define AI in the public eye and set the goals for AI research. *Our underlying philosophy matters as much as the current state of AI research, when we consider the social role of AI and what we predict for our future. In the development of AI, we must define intelligence and explore what it means to be human. While this is not a book with overtly religious claims, it does acknowledge the spiritual claims inherent in discussions of personhood. It also frames technoscience as replacing philosophy and religion and as the oversimplified understanding of humanity and the precursor to expectations of the singularity. *Beyond the stated goal of disenchanting the reader of the inevitability of AI, the book highlights the significance of stories to both society and science and emphasizes the importance of understanding for both humans and AI. We need to understand not only the technical aspects of the technology we build but also the philosophy that defines our goals. *While I found the first two sections of the book to be an engaging and accurate discussion of the tension between the science and hopes of AI, I had concerns about the warnings of "swarm science" in the third. Larson is placing a strong emphasis on individual genius in science; however, science has never been a truly independent endeavor. Many times in history, from evolution to DNA, multiple teams of scientists independently made the same discoveries at nearly the same time, based on previously published work. Though these discoveries were not inevitable, they built upon other research and relied on collaboration at least as much as individual genius. Larson focuses on a particular neuroscience project and makes some valid criticisms, but then he generalizes his observations to all of science in ways that I do not believe to be accurate. His argument that all of science is moving away from theory toward shallow observations is not as obvious as he claims, nor is it supported by the evidence offered in the book. *As a counterexample, the research that resulted in the COVID-19 vaccine could be considered "swarm science" and was effective. Large amounts of funding were very suddenly directed to many scientists for one goal: understand and prevent the coronavirus. Due to both new funding and established research, we developed and approved multiple vaccines in one year. I was not convinced of several of Larson's generalizations in this third section. Tension between celebrating collaboration and individual genius will persist. However, it appears that there is more collaboration in science today. This is likely due to a variety of reasons, including a scientific community connected by the internet and more contributors receiving appropriate credit for their work. *The Myth of AI is a broad view of AI that should prove valuable and comprehensible to readers with or without a technical background. The first two sections offer a clear explanation and history of AI, and the third offers food for thought on how the process of science has been shaped by advances in AI and computer technology. The first sections would be a good introduction to someone not familiar with AI or looking to think about the philosophy of AI and I would recommend the book for these sections. *While the book avoids religious claims, the philosophical discussions of what it means to "understand" and the level of trust we place in AI are essential questions for Christians working in technology-related disciplines. The Myth of AI presents a jumping-off point for much deeper reflection about using AI responsibly and what it means to be human. *Reviewed by Elizabeth Koning, graduate student in the Department of Computer Science, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Urbana, IL 61801.

Abstract:
<p><em>The development of extreme religious perspectives, attitudes of subjective truth claims that impose their religious interpretations are the main basis for the need for a moderate religious perspective. This article aims to analyse the situation of harmony, the experience of discrimination based on religion and to examine the religious moderation attitudes in the community. This research was conducted in a multicultural urban area in the Province of DI Yogyakarta, Baleharjo and Sinduadi Villages. This study found that respondents who experienced discrimination due to their religion were very low. However, 10.2% of respondents reported that there had been friction in their community. This study also found that level of people's attitudes regarding religious moderation measured by national commitment, tolerance, non-violence and accommodativeness to local culture can be categorized as high or good. However, there are several aspects of religious moderation that need to be strengthened such as attitudes about the importance of solving problems through legal approach if a person has problems with followers of other religions, acceptance of the establishment of houses of worship of other religions, leaders from other religions and the desire to conduct demonstrations and expel groups that are considered deviant. This study also found that the higher the education of the respondents, the higher the average score of religious moderation. Respondents who are active in religious organizations have also a higher attitude of religious moderation. Education, both through formal education and religious activities, can be an effective strategy to strengthen religious moderation attitudes in society.</em></p>

Abstract:
This article presents a sociological and catechetical-pastoral overview of the results of an empirical survey that was carried out at the beginning of 2022 among 257 pupils aged 13–18 who were taking part in religious education in public schools in Poland. In the empirical measurement, a computer-assisted interview technique was applied (i.e., computer-assisted web interview). Participants of religious education were asked about their independence in making the decision to attend religious classes, about their motivations, activity during the lessons, and their opinions on the lessons and teachers. The students were asked about the content, methods, atmosphere at the classes, and the impact on their knowledge and their attitudes to life. The analysis of data framed in an interdisciplinary approach indicated that the students had mildly positive attitudes towards religious education, despite secularisation changes and the confessional character of religious education in Poland. This research shows that religious education classes have an impact on particular aspects of the student’s life, their knowledge and faith, and their good assessment of the educational content, methods, and atmosphere during classes. The main conclusion of this research is that it is necessary to develop a less confessional and more open concept of religious education in Poland, which will be more inclusive and more interesting for pupils.

Abstract:
This paper applies neural network technology, a standard approach in computer science that has been unaccountably ignored by sociologists, to the problem of developing rigorous sociological theories. A simulation program employing a “varimax” model of human learning and decision-making models central elements of the Stark-Bainbridge theory of religion. Individuals in a micro-society of 24 simulated people learn which categories of potential exchange partners to seek for each of four material rewards which in fact can be provided by other actors in the society. However, when they seek eternal life, they are unable to find suitable human exchange partners who can provide it to them, so they postulate the existence of supernatural exchange partners as substitutes. The explanation of how the particular neural net works, including reference to modulo arithmetic, introduces some aspects of this new technology to sociology, and this paper invites readers to explore the wide range of other neural net techniques that may be of value for social scientists

Full text
Abstract:
The arena for developing digital technology has undergone an aesthetic turn, broadening the focus from a functionalist approach producing centralized systems in the 1970s and 1980s to an increased awareness of the aesthetic aspects of the individual user’s interaction with technology in the 1990s and 2000s. Within the academic research fields studying digital technology (e.g. Human-Computer Interaction and Interaction Design) the aesthetic turn has resulted in a shift from a strong emphasis on user behaviour to an increased interest in aesthetic perspectives on the role of the designer, the design process, and the design material. Within these fields, aesthetics has often been interpreted as belonging to the realm of the individual; personal experiences such as pleasure, engagement, and emotions have been emphasized in both technology development and technology research. Aesthetics is not, however, only an individual phenomenon but also has relational and structural components that need to be acknowledged. Structural aspects of aesthetics condition the possibilities for individuals interacting with digital technology. Thus, the tension between individual and relational aspects of aesthetics in digital technology also reflects a tension between freedom and limitation; between change and permanence; between destabilizing and stabilizing forces.Such a broadened understanding of aesthetics offers a model of digital technology that roughly corresponds to Mark C. Taylor’s definition of religion. Taylor argues that religion is constituted by, on the one hand, a figuring moment characterized by structural stability and universality, and, on the other hand, a disfiguring moment characterized by disruption, particularity, and change. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the aesthetic turn and Taylor’s definition of religion to illustrate similarities between the two, suggesting possible religious dimensions of digital technology and how that can inform our understanding of people’s interaction with digital technology.

Abstract:
Theoretical generalizations and practical results of the application of cartographic and toponymic scientific approaches in historical-geographical studies of religious buildings are presented on the example of three regions located in different natural zones. The evolution of conventional signs of religious buildings on topographic maps is traced, the patterns of motivational mutual influence of toponymy and ecclesionymy are revealed, the problems of the historical-geographical evolution of the Russian North (Arkhangelsk), Central Russia (Tula region) and the Black Sea region (territories of Moldavia and Ukraine) are considered. The evolution of the system of symbols for religious buildings on topographic maps shows how important the confessional features of society are for itself, its spatio-temporal development and the historical-geographical landscapes formed as a result, for cartographic science and its achievements. On the example of studying the history of Arkhangelsk, it is shown that due to the high social importance of the principle of historical-geographical continuity, despite the severe consequences of the atheistic period, not only town planning, but toponymic and religious traditions are preserved and continue to develop, what is reflected in the landscape. The three-versts map of the European part of the Russian Empire serves as a trusted and reliable source of information about the presence and spatial distribution of religious buildings in the middle of the XIX century. It can be successfully used in historical-geographical research, as was done in the case of the Epifansky district of the Tula government. The introduction of information from ancient maps into scientific circulation is the most important method for obtaining the identification and localization of heritage monuments — temples and temple complexes of various regions, which is shown in the case of the Dniester basin. Temples and temple complexes play a significant role in the formation of the toponymic component of the landscape, the study of which contributes to the solution of historical-geographical riddles associated with place names. Cartographic and toponymic approaches give very productive results in solving interdisciplinary scientific problems.

Abstract:
In our opinion, the relevance of the logical and philosophical understanding of history for its scientific character cannot be doubted. The fact is that most of the modern interethnic and interethnic conflicts (including paramilitary ones) are «mixed up», very often, on the «historical component». Some ethnic groups, especially under the influence of propaganda, are sure that they inhabited this territory «earlier» than others (and vice versa), and therefore have more rights to it; they have a reason to be a «titular nation»; they must have certain privileges; their religious views must be endowed with the status of an official ideology, and so on. To substantiate their claims, leaders or representatives of such national, ethnic or religious formations very often resort to «scientific argumentation», while referring to the research of certain historians as «truth» proved by «historical science». And this, in turn, can lead to sad consequences. It is enough to recall the «scientific research» of the ideologists of the Third Reich, adherents of Mussolini’s ideas or some Islamist theorists. In this regard, the question arises as to how much one can trust the research of historians? Is history able to provide guaranteed true scientific knowledge about the past? In general, is history a science? That is why the purpose of our article is a logical and philosophical analysis of history in order to find out whether it is really a science. The methodology of our research has become traditional logical and philosophical methods: analysis, synthesis, elements of deduction, the method of ascent from the abstract to the concrete, as well as the method of unity of the historical and logical. The scientific novelty of this article is that the author justifies the fact that history is not a science from a logical and philosophical position. The results obtained in the course of the research carried out in the article have a certain theoretical and practical significance. Their theoretical significance lies in the fact that they can be used by scientists in conducting scientific research in the field of philosophy of science, philosophy of history, political science, sociology, social psychology, ethnography, religious studies and others. In addition, they can be used by practitioners (politicians, public and religious figures, heads of state and public organizations, etc.) in resolving social conflicts and solving other socially significant tasks.

Abstract:
This research focuses on optimizing religious moderation messages through Search Engine Optimization (SEO) on NU Online, an Islamic website platform in Indonesia. Using a constructivist paradigm with a descriptive qualitative approach, this study explores how religious moderation messages are constructed and disseminated through Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) and SEO. Data was collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, with a specific analysis on the popular article titled "Moderation of Religion and Its Urgency" on NU Online. The results show that NU Online has effectively implemented keyword research and On-Page SEO but is lacking in Off-Page SEO implementation. This indicates that the religious moderation messages are not yet fully optimized on this website. These findings underscore the importance of comprehensive SEO strategies to enhance the visibility and dissemination of religious moderation messages. The study recommends increasing the use of Off-Page SEO on Islamic websites. This includes the development of models or practical guides to optimize online religious content, encompassing aspects of keyword research, inclusive content, and effective campaign strategies. These implications are crucial for expanding the reach and impact of religious moderation messages, especially in the current digital era. The study also opens opportunities for further research on the influence of SEO on the dissemination of religious messages on the internet. The implementation of effective SEO strategies is expected to enhance the effectiveness of disseminating religious moderation messages through NU Online and other Islamic websites in Indonesia.

Abstract:
Abstract. The article provides a methodological basis for socio-philosophical research through the acceptance of freedom. The aim of the research is to develop an algorithm for analyzing religious and metaphysical views, which allows to formulate a holistic and meaningful idea of the spiritual sphere of life in a post-secular society, including the Russian society of the post-Soviet period. The review of the main approaches to the description of the religiosity of the population, which were used by Russian authors in the study of the post-Soviet period, is given in the article. The disadvantages of these methods are pointed out: the formality of the separation on confessional grounds, attempts to unambiguously associate a person with any religious organization, the intention to reduce the description to quantitative indicators, the ability for interested parties to interpret the results in their benefit. It makes impossible for researchers to fix many essential characteristics of religiosity, such as the degree of influence of faith on social behavior, the moral development of an individual, his attitude to bearer of other views, denominations and cultures. Thus, the relevance of problem of finding new approaches to the study of religiosity is demonstrated. As an alternative, a qualitative comprehensive analysis of religious and metaphysical ideas is proposed. It based on the socio-philosophical concept of 10 degrees of freedom-independence, developed by the Doctor of Philosophical Sciences A. G. Myasnikov. The hierarchy of freedom’s degrees, where moral and religious freedom-independence occupies the 8th level, is described. The main aspects of the concept are given. The research direction of the religiosity of the population is outlined. The aspects that should be considered during the analysis are considered in detail, including the complexity and internal consistency of religious and metaphysical ideas, the area of their practical application, etc. From the viewpoint of analyzing the society’s structure, it is proposed to consider a person as a carrier of a certain type of religiosity. This term denotes a collective characteristic that includes self-identification, dogmatic, cult, moral, behavioral and other aspects of a person’s spiritual life. In conclusion, some estimates, which are based on the results of the analysis of post-Soviet religiosity based on the concept of 10 degrees of freedom-independence, are given. It is indicated that this approach allows to consider the essential aspects of a person’s religiosity, the mechanisms of its formation, and provide to determine to what extent the conditions of society and the state contribute to the comprehensive development of the individual. The conclusion is made about the high heuristic potential of the proposed methodology. It is noted that in the course of further research additional factors may be identified, the analysis of which will allow to form a more accurate and meaningful vision of religious and metaphysical ideas.

Abstract:
This article explores the dynamics of Singapore’s administration and management of its minority Muslim population. Singapore has developed a reputation of being highly interventionist in all aspects of its citizens’ lives, including the private domain. Not surprisingly, there is a slew of legislation governing the religious beliefs and practices of its citizens, aimed primarily at maintaining religious and racial harmony. Islam and the Muslim minority, it can be argued, have been at the receiving end of tighter state management as compared to the other religious communities. This article traces the evolution of the state’s administration of Islam in Singapore and explores the historical and contemporary reasoning behind such careful management of its Muslim citizens. It lays out the evolution of a Singapore model of accommodating and administering a religious/Muslim minority, and questions the sustainability and exportability of such a governance model.

Abstract:
This research explores the multifaceted concept of religious moderation within the context of Islamic education in Indonesia. The study investigates four primary aspects: the foundational idea of religious moderation, its diverse perspectives and approaches, the implications of religious moderation in education, and its practical implementation in Islamic educational institutions. Various perspectives on religious moderation education, including theological-normative, sociological, anthropological, and cross-cultural communication perspectives, are examined in detail. Normatively, religious moderation education is guided by the concept of "wasathiyyah" (middle path) along with its defining characteristics. In the sociological aspect, the cultivation of religious moderation is achieved through socialization, fostering individuals to become responsible members of society and citizens who exhibit religious moderation in their social interactions. In the anthropological aspect, religious moderation education is realized through processes of acculturation, encompassing enculturation, socialization, and internalization. Furthermore, the communication aspect highlights the significance of cross-cultural communication as a means to promote religious moderation by facilitating middle-ground communication between diverse cultural backgrounds. The study also underscores the presence of religious moderation content within the scientific traditions of Islamic boarding schools and colleges, emphasizing the importance of preserving and enhancing this aspect. However, it is noted that there is room for improvement in the realm of madrasas, as they still need to strengthen their focus on religious moderation. This can be achieved through deliberate efforts in socialization and fostering a civilizing environment within the madrasah setting. Additionally, incorporating character moderation into the curriculum structure, hidden curriculum, and extracurricular activities is considered vital in nurturing religious moderation among students in madrasas. In conclusion, this research offers valuable insights into the comprehensive understanding and implementation of religious moderation in Islamic education within the Indonesian context. The findings presented here are significant for educators, policymakers, and practitioners seeking to promote a balanced and moderate approach to religious education in the country.

Abstract:
The ecopedagogic-based learning model is based on environmental principles and aspects such as nature, social, and culture. Ecopedagogic can be interpreted as an academic movement to awaken students to become individuals who have understanding, awareness, and life skills in harmony with the interests of nature conservation. This research is included in the type of qualitative research with a philosophical approach and a pedagogical approach. Data collection methods were carried out using interview techniques and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The results of this study reveal that the ecopedagogic approach in learning Hinduism is able to unite natural rights with human rights, providing the basis for the view that the environment and humans must respect each other and work together to maintain the balance of nature, and help increase environmental awareness also social responsibility. Ecopedagogic-based Hindu religious learning emphasizes the development of material that is not only limited to something that is textual but needs to be developed through a contextual approach, so the goal is that students can have concern for the environment. This is because the learning system outside the classroom gives students more experience and makes the learning process fun.

Theorists emphasize the significance of the conceptualizing phenomena before any quantification in the scientific work process. The role of analogy among all human-beings’ cognitive tools in the process of problem solving and concept creation is undeniable according to experts. Accordingly, this paper defines the analogy of “religion as brand” as an analogical model to shed light on political and religious marketing aspects of two terrorist organizations and religious brands in the Middle East. The concept of “ISIS and Al-Qaeda are sub-brands of Islam” was extracted from this metaphorical structure. The paper illuminates different branding attributes of these two terrorist groups through reviewing approximately fifty first-hand and second-hand materials on the issue. This review reveals how Islam functions as a master-brand and nourishes these two brands ideologically. The analogy entails a variety of attributes among which five aspects of branding including communication, brand mythology, competition, attracting social and symbolic capital, and brand promise are discussed and religious associations which endorse these two groups’ political functions are examined.

To Mâche, the sacred is the consideration of a specific relationship to the world as the object and as the subject, as the ‘why’ and as the ‘how’ of music. Musical examples from his mixed music and acousmatic music illustrate how Mâche goes from his theories to more practical aspects of his compositional technique and listening behaviours.

Abstract:
Population-level data on predictors for attitudes towards sexual behavior are missing for Germany. The current study investigated sexual attitudes in the German population with regard to sociodemographic and sociocultural factors. Data originated from the German Health and Sexuality Survey (GeSiD; N = 4,955) carried out from October 2018 to September 2019. Computer-assisted face to face interviews were conducted with a large self-administered component due to the sensitive topics of the survey. Public acceptance towards several aspects of sexual behavior (extramarital sex, abortion, same sex sexual activities, sex work, promiscuity, sex without love) was investigated. Age, gender, education, religious aspects and migration background were introduced as predictors into logistic regression analyses. Overall, respondents rather rejected promiscuity (61%) and extramarital sex (81%) and rather supported same sex sexual activities (63–70%). Male respondents more likely rejected same sex sexual activities and abortion. Higher education was associated with more acceptance towards the sexual behaviors whereas first generation migrants, Muslim faith and religious devoutness were associated with less acceptance. Results indicate that gender is relevant in terms of sexual attitudes with male respondents tending to have more traditional and heteronormative gender role values. Furthermore, education, culture and religion play an important role concerning the liberality towards sexual behaviors. Acculturation processes of second generation migrants may lead to an adaptation of values. Comprehensive and culturally sensitive sex education may focus on differences concerning sexuality-related norms and values.

ABSTRACTThis panel centers on presentations that address examples of spiritual and/or religious experiences through an information lens. The panelists will initiate a timely conversation about the ways in which individuals and communities make sense of their information worlds post pandemic and in contexts of high uncertainty (e.g., climate anxiety, increased polarization, AI developments, etc.). In examining coping strategies of the spiritual and/or religious kinds, the panel brings together scholars in a range of information fields to address several of the conference's themes, including new theoretical conceptualizations of the cultural, social, cognitive, affective, and situational aspects of information needs, searching, use, and sharing. As well, the session's examined contexts of everyday lived religion and spirituality can enrich our understanding of the intersections between health and well‐being, socio‐technical arrangements, and evolving and diverse information practices. The short presentations and interactive engagement bring together an international group of emerging and established scholars into conversation and will coalesce into the formulation of a research agenda on this topic. Speakers’ interventions will revolve around three connected questions: How can religious and spiritual experiences be theoretically contextualized within Information Science? What research approaches are most suitable for exploring spirituality/religion in our digital networked world? What ethical challenges do researchers encounter in undertaking this type of research (especially during a pandemic) and how can they be effectively addressed?

Abstract:
This study investigates the influence of learning patterns on religious tolerance. Variable learning patterns are divided into three aspects: (1) cognitive patterns, (2) socio-affective patterns, and (3) practical-empirical patterns. The variable of religious tolerance is divided into attitude-forming components, including: (1) knowledge of religious tolerance, (2) feeling of religious tolerance, and (3) actual act of religious tolerance. This research is a quantitative type using multiple linear regression analysis models. Data was collected through a survey of 320 research respondents and data analysis used descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis. The analysis results with the simultaneous test (F-test) showed that the three learning patterns significantly influence religious tolerance, which can be seen from the p-Value (0.00) < alpha (0.05)); (F > F table)). The partial test results (t-test) show; First, the understanding of religious tolerance is dominantly influenced by cognitive learning patterns with a value (p-Value (0.00) <alpha (0.05)); (t(10.21) > t table (1.97)). Second, the feeling of religious tolerance is dominated by the influence of cognitive and socio-affective learning patterns with each having (p-Value (0.000) <alpha (0.05)); (t (9.50) > t table (1.97) and (p-Value (0.000) < alpha (0.05)); (t (3.65) > t table (1.97)). Third, cognitive, socio-affective, and practical-empirical learning styles had the same influence on tolerant behavior specifically (p-Value = 0.00 alpha = 0.05) (p-Value (0.00) < alpha (0.05)). These findings can be used as a basis for compiling educational regulations so that learning is carried out with strategies that support student learning patterns.

An Empirical Analysis Based on Variable Selection Methods." Mathematics 10, no. 23 (November 29, 2022): 4497. http://dx.doi.org/10.3390/math10234497.

Abstract:
When people who adhere to tax morality act in a situation where there is no sense of risk, no acceptance of the government, or no environment conducive to tax compliance, it is easier to see how they are motivated to do so. Tax morality is also known as the ethics of compliance. It is the independent cause that motivates a positive tax behaviour. Employees’ religious beliefs may impact their ideas and actions in organizational life, just as individuals’ attitudes, values, emotions, abilities, and behaviours influence their thoughts and actions at work. Religion can positively influence a worker’s loyalty, morale, and communication. In this context, the research seeks to determine whether religiosity and religion may have an effect on tax morale, examining whether an individual’s religiosity reduces tax evasion and increases the degree of tax morale. Using machine learning variable selection techniques appropriate for categorical variables, we have used the dataset of the Joint EVS/WVS 2017-2020 (European Value Survey/World Value Survey), allowing for comparisons of tax morality in more than 79 nations globally (chi-squared and mutual information). The empirical findings showed that the most important aspects of religiosity, such as religious denomination, belief in God, and the significance of God, along with the degree of trust placed in other religions and churches, have a considerable positive impact on the level of tax morale. Another significant conclusion relates to how much people feel the government is responsible, how much they care about their nation, and how satisfied they are with the political system—findings that have been shown to boost employee morale. The following are a person’s primary traits that indicate their financial morale: an adult above the age of 25, a full-time worker or retired person, married, and living alone. Therefore, employees that are morally upright, trustworthy, diligent, and committed to the workplace values of justice and decency raise morale generally and improve an organisation’s success. A business may enhance its reputation and help to secure its long-term success by establishing behavioural policies.

How can an individual’s Moral Compass address the question of whether or not to help a patient to shorten and end his or her life? Moral Compass has been defined as that set of values and experiences that guides each individual’s decisions and conduct in relation to others and to society. Can a robot be programmed to have a moral compass? If we were only considering rules of conduct, then perhaps yes, that would be possible. We could establish a series of rules and sanctions that a computer assisted robot could rigorously apply for any violation. The state and many religions already do that, and many individuals are quite comfortable with rigorous, unbendable rules. Most rules, however, have exceptions, so perhaps the robots of the future can be designed to be flexible, that is, human.

The search and discussion of God are never-ending in the study and history of human civilization. Humans always want to prove the existence of God through arguments from thoughts, mystical experiences, or scriptures. Whether God is personal or not is also an exciting topic of discussion, including the question of God's gender, which is discussed in this article. The method used in this research is philosophical hermeneutics. The results of this study are 1) God's gender in the Hindu concept of divinity in the theological aspect of Nirguna Brahman is genderless, while in Saguna Brahman theology, God is manifested in masculine and feminine aspects, 2) Buddha has a genderless concept of God, but Mahayana sects also believe in Bhodisattvas who are respected and worshipped like one of them is Dewi Kwan Im, 3) Christians have a masculine concept of divinity as God, Elohim and the concept of the Trinity (God the Father/ Allah Bapa, God the Son/ Allah Putra and the Holy Spirit/ Roh Kudus). 4) Islam has a genderless concept of divinity, but in language it is categorized as masculine (he), 5) Confucianism believes in a transcendent God and believes in the power of Yin (female power) and Yang (male power).

Abstract:
The article analyzes the main ideas of Alan Gilbert Nixon, a contemporary sociologist of religion and researcher of the new atheism movement. The subject of the study is the ideology of the new atheism movement as a special anti-religious worldview associated with the work of Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Daniel Dennett and Christopher Hitchens, which arose in 2006. Nixon himself, studying this movement, uses an original methodology, which he calls ‘grounded theory’ and explores the development of a new atheism in the actual contextual space of interaction between participants and the prospects of this interaction. The methodology of the authors of this article is based on the principle of the unity of the historical and logical interpretation of the key concepts and positions of A. Nixon in the process of a systematic analysis of historical background, ideological foundation, self-presentation of representatives of the new atheism movement. In addition, in the context of this study, a number of social changes (the globalization of capitalism, the development of the Internet and the related “leaps of communication”, the religious renaissance) are considered as a necessary context for the formation of a special “narrative mythology” of the new atheism, expressed in the idea of the greatness of Nature and Science. and suggesting a kind of piety within the worldview of the new atheism. As the main result of the presented analysis, one can single out the conceptual design of key aspects of the existence of a modern anti-religious worldview: hyperskepticism in the knowledge of the world, nihilism and the denial of classical metaphysics of rationality, criticism of the values of religious morality; a postmodern paradox that erases the boundaries between religious/non-religious and cancels the very possibility of discrimination on religious grounds, which nullifies the confrontational logic of the new atheism; the emergence of secular non-religious missionary work as a result of the process of competition of ideas in the space of “multiple modernities”; and, finally, the fact that the new atheistic message is gaining adherents because the anti-religious worldview is subject to the cultural logic of late capitalism with its postmodern spread of pluralism of cultures, discourses, organizations.

This study uses descriptive qualitative methods with the techniques of observation, in-depth interviews and literacy studies. As for what makes the Malay community of Serdang still maintain the ritual of rejecting reinforcements because it is still considered to have a role and function as well as life values that are still relevant and dynamic which until now continue to be continued and remain as a reference. Of course, these values and aspects have advantages and disadvantages to be applied. Values and aspects that have weaknesses need to find new solutions and creativity in dealing with these matters. Values and aspects that have advantages need to be maintained and preserved.

Abstract:
Modeling is as old as humanity. It is one of the ways in which we experience the world, teach our children, and entertain ourselves. The digital computer, on the other hand, is approximately 60 years old but as computing power increases and access to technology becomes easier, more disciplines are using statistical and computational simulations. From the humanities to social sciences, scholars are advocating for a computational branch of their field of study. This is very exciting, and we want to make sure that all disciplines stay connected and share their insights as they grow in their respective areas. Religion is a complex system that consists of humans, society, culture and social constructs that have evolved over millennia. The study of religion relies on empirical approaches to collect and analyze data to generate or validate existing theories. Modeling and simulation allows us to venture beyond statistical observation and into an exploration of the causal relationships between the different aspects of religion. It provides us with (1) the ability to understand the system as a whole, (2) the possibility of projecting how religion will evolve in the future and (3) the capability to compare, contrast and merge seemingly conflicting theories of religion. In this article, we present five critical things that scholars in psychology of religion should know about the discipline of Modeling and Simulation. The goal of this short primer is to highlight the universal aspects of Modeling and Simulation and to provide a unifying view that transcends disciplines.

Abstract:
Purpose There is a lack of epistemological considerations in religious studies methodologies, which have resulted in an on-going critique in this field. In addressing this critique, the researcher’s observer effect needs to be actively accounted for owing to the influence of the researcher’s epistemology in the author’s research. This paper aims to answer the question of why a researcher should address one’s epistemology in the research. Design/methodology/approach Using second-order cybernetics as an approach, observer dependence is exemplified and justified in the context of religious studies research methodology. The research activity is shown as a relational temporal coupling that introduces inter-subjective aspects to the research. The research process is analysed showing the need to provide scope for the researcher’s epistemology in one’s research. Findings A relational observer-dependent approach to research embraces the epistemology of the researcher and the participants providing equality in the relationship. The research results are thus framed according to the nature of the relationship and are thus not detached. This addresses social justice and reduces troubling truth claims. Research limitations/implications This first paper focuses on the question of why epistemology should be included in scholarly research. A detailed framework for how scholars may achieve this goal is to be part of the future study and is not presented in this paper. Practical implications In many positivist approaches there is a motivation to hide the researcher; however, recently there has been a move towards including authors in the first person, realising that science is tied to politics, which does not reach its ideals of objectivity. Cybernetics is presented as an approach to addressing the move from “objective” to “subjective” research. Social implications Researchers cannot get into the minds of their participants and thus an authorial privileged presentation by the researcher of the participant’s experiences is fraught with epistemological weaknesses. Attempting to own one’s own epistemology could address social justice in research by personalising the research and accounting for the observer effect and the inter-subjective attributes of the research relationship. Originality/value The principle of observer dependence in cybernetics is not new; however, a research approach that focuses on the nature of knowing and how this may influence one’s research in religious studies is uncommon. It is thus presented here as a viable option to address the critique of epistemologically weak research methodology in religious studies.

The Leo Baeck Institute, New York, is creating a database registering the Jewish archival holdings of repositories in the five new states of Germany. The Colloquium about Problems and Issues in Jewish Archives and Historiography in the Five New States of Germany, led to the shaping of a project utilizing the lnstitute's experience in computer-based cataloging, its expertise in the formulation and expansion of a German-language version of Library of Congress subject headings, and the ground-breaking research surveys of Helmut Eschwege. The project, funded by the German Interior Ministry, Section for Religious Affairs, is administered through the Historische Kornmission zu Berlin, under the academic guidance of Prof. Reinhard Rürup, chairman of the LBl's Academic Council in Germany. Further cooperative projects to refine the cataloging of Jewish holdings are in the process of development with the state and local archives in the new states. This interim report comes near the halfway point in a two-year funded project. Planning and technical aspects are described. Preliminary reports of findings illustrate the value of the work.

Abstract:
Scholars have identified Muslims’ religiosity and faith practices, often believed to be more intense than those of other religious groups, as a point of friction in liberal democracies. We use computer-assisted methods of lexical sentiment analysis and collocation analysis to assess more than 800,000 articles between 1996 and 2016 in a range of British, American, Canadian, and Australian newspapers. We couple this approach with human coding of 100 randomly selected articles to investigate the tone of devotion-related themes when linked to Islam and Muslims. We show that articles touching on devotion are not as negative as articles about other aspects of Islam—and indeed that they are not negative at all, on average, when focused on a key subset of devotion-related articles. We thus offer a new perspective on the perception of Islamic religiosity in Western societies. Our findings also suggest that if newspapers strive to provide a more balanced portrayal of Muslims and Islam within their pages, they may seek opportunities to include more frequent mentions of Muslim devotion.

Abstract:
It may be said at the outset that in discussing haj related issues, one runs the risk of touching on public sensitivities as haj is part of the devotional aspects (‘ibadat) of Islam and not as open to rational enquiry as are matters of concern to civil transactions (mu‘amalat). That said, raising questions over haj management matters tangential to the substance of worship should not be a problem. Islam does not preclude religious matters from rational investigation in the spirit of healthy renewal and reform (tajdid). Earlier precedent confirms this when, for instance, the caliph ‘Umar al-Khattab introduced the second call to prayer (adhan) on Fridays when the crowds attending congregational prayers in Madinah grew larger.

This article offers an interpretation of the wayang kulit (Malay shadow play) as a type of traditional art, in which the art forms are conceived within the broader cosmology derived from religious tradition. To this end, it focuses on three aspects of the play, namely, the rituals, mythology and symbolism in the setting to uncover their meanings and how these relate to the tradition in which it was conceived. As the play predates Islam and was immersed in animistic and Hindu-Buddhist milieu, it underwent reinterpretation to accommodate the coming of Islam and in fact was utilised to convey Islamic message by building on the people’s pre-Islamic beliefs, thereby offering an instance of intercultural dialogue through art.

Abstract:
Abstract. Osho Rajneesh is one of the most controversial neo–Hinduism teachers. Like in a mirror, Osho reflected the main ideas of his time, proclaimed those principles that are desirable and relevant for modern man. Despite Osho’s widespread fame, his significance as a spiritual leader and founder of the original religious and philosophical system, the significance of his teachings and ideas in the focus of spiritual improvement of man, remain underestimated. The issue of systematization of Rajneesh teaching remains unresolved. The aim of Osho’s teaching is human’s spiritual perfection. To achieve this aim, Osho combines diverse ways of spiritual development available to humanity into a single whole. The guru adopts and interprets the key ideas of religious and philosophical theories of the East and the West. The teaching, which includes so many of these peculiar “squeezes”, was not created either before or after Osho. All of the above is the reason for the undying interest in this spiritual leader. This article discusses Osho’s method of man’s spiritual perfection: a combination of “Western psychotherapy” and “Eastern meditation”. The purpose of this article is to analyze the Osho’s method: how “Western psychotherapy” and “Eastern meditation” are combined and interpreted in the guru’s teaching to identify an integral system of Osho’s views on the spiritual perfection of a human. The objectives of the article are: 1. To identify in what key Osho turns to Western philosophical views, 2. to consider the features of Osho’s adoption and interpretation of Western philosophical concepts, 3. to analyze the “Osho’s Method” of man’s spiritual perfection, which includes two stages: “exposing the ego” and “returning to the natural” through “Western psychotherapy” and “Eastern meditation”, 4. To consider the features of Osho’s meditational practices. The research involves religious studies, philosophical-anthropological, and system-structural approaches. This scientific article partially reflects some aspects of the religious analysis of Osho’s anthropological teaching, conducted for the first time. As a result, Osho’s teaching is presented as an integral harmonious structure — the concept of spiritual improvement of a man, which includes two conditional stages: “exposing the ego” and “returning to the natural”. Osho’s meditations are based on two system-forming principles (consciousness and totality), aimed at “sudden enlightenment”, have a syncretic character and can be conditionally divided into cathartic, contemplative and centering, depending on the prevailing method. For the further research of Osho’s teaching it’s necessary to understand its inner logic, distinguish the concepts, considering them relative to Osho’s religious philosophical thought in general. The interest in Osho’s ideas that has not faded over the years, indicates the existence of people’s need for such a search for truth, which was proposed by this Indian mentor.

Abstract:
Do educational theories affect enfranchisement asymmetrically? This article analyses two sets of thinking skills in religious education as apparatuses, taking observations and political documents as a starting point. The thinking skills are described in terms of the roles they allocate, the attention and affect they direct, values and truth-criteria they foster, and the extent to which they make aspects of religion visible and invisible. Taking a cue from Butler’s question, “When is Life Grievable?”, attention is paid more to the distribution of an apparatus than its validity or effectiveness. How do sets of thinking skills distribute opportunities to make particular strategic choices? When is learning truly and equally shared?

Abstract:
On October 11, 2010, France became the first European country to ban the full-face Islamic veil – the burqa and niqab, in public places. After France becoming a “pioneer” in this area, by contrast to the United Stated and Russia, facial veil prohibition acts have been adopted in several other European countries and discussed in even more. These acts and political debates have generated a colossal number of research papers – mostly on legal issues by lawyer-scholars, critical analyses and, I’m sure, will produce many more. They have mainly focused on different aspects of the right to religious and cultural freedom, the right to gender equality. However, the novelty of Professor Raphael Cohen-Almagor’s monograph “The Republic, Secularism and Security: France versus the Burqa and the Niqab” lies in a non-standard approach to the veil-ban issue – he investigates using different methodological instruments not only the legal core the ban, but also (and mostly) the factors motivating the French legislator, what it symbolizes. Since the niqab and burqa wearers are extremely rare in France, as in almost all European Countries, one may agree that there surely isn’t an actual social problem, needing to be regulated by the government. Such disproportional This difference between practical importance and French legislative effort have urged Professor Cohen-Almagor to dwell on the reasons of such a high interest by the public administration to the religious facial veil. The study was carried out using various scientific methods: general scientific (analysis, synthesis, modeling, abstraction, etc.), empirical (observation, statistics), specifically legal (comparative legal, axiological, sociological, hermeneutics), historical (diachronic, ideographic). Huge practical experience, thorough, systemic knowledge of the regulatory material and practical aspects of its implementation allow the Author to analyze the symbolic and instrumental role of the facial veil in France’s pursuit for national identity building.
