Useche, Sandoval Tonatiuh. "L'idée d'Occident chez Auguste Comte." Thesis, Paris 1, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013PA010704.
Full textFollowing the year 1848, white most of his contemporaries were focusing their attentions on the political emergence of nationalities and the renewal of colonial empires, Comte and his closest followers were claiming the reconstruction of the western association and denouncing the idea according to which the West was playing a civilisation rote in its attempt to dominate the whole world. Already in 1820, Comte had been interested by the Western Re-organisation outside the reference to theological or metaphysical conceptions and outside the frame of modern nations. According to him, the constitution of a new spiritual power should be the ground of this re-organisation. Such spiritual power was defined as the foundation of a system of positive education shared across the whole western Republic. ln his sociology, the term "West" which Comte was finding more accurate than the term "Europe", designated an elite group within humanity. In other words, the West was the most advanced part of the human kind on the path to an adult state represented by the scientific and industrial state. Comte's originality has been to think this elite group as a way to establish a universal and free association of men around the world. Highlighting the streams of idea having influenced Comte and underlying the input of his positivist followers, this thesis isolates the singularity of the historical transition at stake in the West. This work focuses on the proposals of Comte's positive politics aiming at both preventing western superiority to become a force of uniforming oppression and stimulating its use as a force for a worldwide solidarity and a progress without revolution

Full textThis study tries to analyse the multiple relations which the comte de caylus established with the literary and material world of Antiquity, as an aesthete and antiquary. So we have in a first chapter observed the formation of his cabinet d'antiquites, beginning by the choice of brokers and works, the payment and the sending of monuments, to finish by the last destiny of collections. After this, are studied the earl's statute and activities in the academie des inscriptions et des belles lettres : the sense of his critical mind when he reads the texts, his taste for restitutions and the many techniques of ancient art, and the reconstitutions of monuments described by the authors. An other part of this study is about the recueil d'antiquites, with first his whole organisation, secondly the methods of archeological investigations which are developed, and at last the meaning and the importance of the illustrations. So in the last chapter, are exposed his way history conceptions' and its finality, and the relations he developed between the study of antiquities and the modern art

Abstract : This thesis is built under an anarchist point of view and aim to develop a political analysis of three fundamental works from the officious and positivists creators of the fields of Linguistics and Sociology. These works are: Reorganizar a Sociedade, "fundamental booklet" written by Auguste Comte; La División del Trabajo Social, doctorate thesis by Émile Durkheim and the Curso de Linguística Geral that is a posthumous and relatively apocryphal work, under the name of Ferdinand de Saussure. Thus, this thesis is a study methodologically simple and bibliographical. This study aims to extract and to show ethical and political consequences of the scientific works developed by this positivist trinity that, as we shall see, points to a suffocant and proto-fascist world of control, hierarchy and domination. That means it is against anarchy, with all the possible ambiguities this word may contain. Under the perspective that the parts and the whole are qualitative distinct, to un-veil all the moral and ethical horror presented since the beginning of Linguistics and Sociology is also to metonymically un-cover this same horror in the totality of the science-institution. We will assert that this science-institution is the new theology of our times, composed by its clergy of scientists and academics. Thus this thesis presents itself as a form of renewed anticlericalism. The concern and the justification of the present text are not engaged in the reform of this institution, but in its end.

Full textAfter the damages caused by the one hundred years war and the fightings between armagnacs and burgundies, picardy, and particularly the western part of the somme department which corresponds to the boundaries of the former county of ponthieu, was the ground for the building of new churches which had common characteristics. Although of the same artistic trend than in all of france, the flamboyant art of the former county of ponthieu represents an original entity endeavouring to make a synthesis between the gothic tradition of the north and the new solutions which came from italy; two importants constructions, saint-vulfran of abbeville and the abbey of saint-riquier, have probably served as models for the reconstruction or modernization of smaller churches in the architectural field as well as for the monumental decoration

Full textThis dissertation seeks to address the concept of morality to the author Isidore Auguste Marie François Xavier Comte (born in 01.19.1798, Montpellier - died on 05/09/1857, Paris), also known for being the founder of positivism. Comte proposed one hierarchical classification to the positives sciences. In addition, from the System of positive polity, or Treatise on sociology: Instituting the religion of humanity, Volume II, Chapter 1, written from 12/1850 to 01/1851, the sciences become seven: mathematics, astronomy, physics, chemistry, biology, sociology, and moral. The Moral then becomes the seventh core constituent phenomena of reality (the human phenomena) which the specific method is the subjective or constructive method (succeeding the historic method, sociologys specific). The morality becomes the science`s and method supreme and final in the positive philosophy system. Considering all the work of Comte, but focusing on The course of positive philosophy, which exposes the nature of the concept of positive and the proposed hierarchy of sciences; in the Discourse preliminary on the nature of positivism, which presents the religion of humanity; in the System of positive polity, or Treatise on sociology: Instituting the religion of humanity where the moral is explicitly presented to the proposed of treaty for the moral to The subjective synthesis, citing the contents related to the 7 chapters; and finally in the Table of eighteen functions of the brain or soul that underlies the possibility of passing from selfishness to the altruism. To develop this work we initially expose in which context the moral establishes in the thought of Comte assuming that morality has always been present in Comtes life/thought and work. Then we present the positioning of moral as the seventh positive science, which deals with human phenomena, and the ideas of Comte presented in Table of eighteen functions of the brain or soul. Finally, we present some features of this moral while positive moral.

Full textThe Count of Artois (1757-1836), Louis XV’s great son and Louis XVI’s brother, is frivolous, libertine and is not interested in the intellectual world. He buys the Marquis of Paulmy’s library, one of the most important collections in this time which competes with the other most beautiful libraries in this time. Artois’s library didn’t interest searchers before because the count isn’t a very attractive character and because of the lack of document on the subject. To overcome this lack of documentation, the bookbinding is used as a real historical document and is inventoried as the databases methodology. It helps to reconstruct a characteristic typology of décor which reflects a collection and to find his books between lots of copies of the same edition. This methodology concerns historians who search information on people in a time or on a period, but also literary who study texts and their stories. The Count of Artois’s typology of décor, which is found also on other everyday life objects, reflects actually the one used for the royal family and symbolizes the expression of the royal power. Other libraries’possessors are creating typologies of décor to sign their collection and when they use the royal collection’s one, it expresses their affiliation to a certain social status and the acknowledgment of it

Full textThis paper intends to realize how did Auguste COMTE detached from his tenets the several demands of historical meanings necessary to his explanation of the present to his projects for the humankind. It is clear on the work of this philosopher his major concerning about History, provider of elucidative and ultimate bonds, and sustaining of a future project related to continuous evolution. COMTE fulfilled an original and exhibited interpretation of the Humanity History, with casual relationships among distinct levels, what means attribution of value to different stages and cultures, among which, vividly, to ancient cultures. To make viable this work about historical bounding in COMTE, the Greek-Roman perception of the classic was privileged, establishing which images and functions this historical stage had, in the design of the positivistic doctrine.

Full textThe thesis of philosophies doctorate headed "Alfred-Frédéric, Comte de Falloux (1811 - 1886) " defended by Gérald GOBBI, under guidance of Professor Philippe LEVILLAIN, treats of the public and private life of the Earl Alfred de Falloux. 19th century French politician of legitimist leanings, he worked on the restoration of the French Monarchy through fusionism. The French sociopolitical evolvement initiated since the Revolution of 1789, led to the defeat of his political circle : the last quarter of the century saw the triumph of the Republic in France. Being a catholic, Alfred de Falloux sided with the liberal catholic circle which program was based on the alliance between religion and freedom for the salvation of the Roman Catholicism. Mishandled by the Risorgimento and the Industrialization, it fighted for its perpetuation in the bosom of an European society, then, in change. The end of Pie IX's pontificate, a conservative Pope, stated an evolution in the tumultuous and unbalanced relations between liberal catholics and ultracatholics : Pope Léon XIII, Gloser to Earl Alfred de Falloux's expectations, had with him, good relations. Alfred de Falloux died on January 1886 : he was part of the Monarchy's beaten ones

Full textThere exist two distinctive traditions on the history of modern economic science: the scientist tradition and its demystification. This essay purposes to attest the "scientific" supremacy of the second over the first. In the first and introductory chapter, this thesis argues against the so-called orthodox economists and their scientist reduction of the economic science, first under the objectivistic pretence of a science of pure objects or to a science of the submission, secondly under the positive pretence to an apologetically science in favor of the existing bourgeois order, and lastly under nilistic pretence to an individualistic science. In the following chapters, the thesis attempts to recognize some diverse philosophical efforts to find the veritable scientific status of the economic science as an human science, that is, a science of the object in which the human being intervenes, a value oriented science, a science in search of the meaning of the human life. The second chapter has chosen E. Kant and A. Comte to be attributable for the premier criticisms of the modern political economy

This critical anthology offers a historical study of the ideological content of the satires, showing their role on public opinion. It is also a literary study of their poetics focusing more specifically on the epigram seen as the support of different varieties of conceptos, exploring the sources of this work - mainly the Latin satire and the Spanish poetry of the fifteenth century – and placing the political satire back in the work of Villamediana

The dissertation aimed to investigate the André Comte-Sponville´s (1952) atheism, recurring as primary reference The Treaty of Despair and Beatitude (t.1,1984; t. 2, 1989). The methodological approach followed the philosophy of religion having as parameters to conceptualise his atheism the humanism in the broad sense and more particular, the one that emerged in the second half of 20th century, or post-modern. The Epicurean materialism is part of his atheist philosophy, it establishes the basis of a structuralist ontology, conceiving the being and everything else (the values, the truth, the love, the justice, the good) as the particles´ movement epiphenomenon, which the philosopher named of upward materialism

Full textGenerally, in philosophical tradition, Auguste Comte is known as the philosopher of epistemological continuity with his "law of three stages" and Bachelard as the instigator of discontinuity with his "postulate of epistemological break". However, we consider that Bachelard's thought is more subtle and more complex in his reception of Auguste Comte's thought and in the elaboration of his own modelisation of history. So our analysis takes purpose in this thesis, to approach both authors separated by a century, to examine their conception of scientific spirit's development, making reference to their sources and contexts (which are Aristotle and Newton in Comte's case, and relativity theory and quantum mechanics with the debate on indetermination, in Bachelard's case), to demonstrate that it is possible to understand in each one thought, and between both, that break and continuity is the double way of development in scientific spirit's formation even differently because of the difference of their contexts

Full textThis work considers the Comte de Paris', born in 1908, from the dark years of his family's exile in Morocco to the moment when he inherited the responsability of pretendership in 1940. This biographical space is analysed as a long attempt to link his original position to the moving realities of the times he lived through. - a symbolic articulated link : the historical depth of pretendership and its monarchic background set a whole vocabulary and an hagiographic syntax, shared by the social elite and dynastic Europe. - a ritual articulated link : the sacredness conveyed by the rites of pretendership emprisonned him while symbolically preserving him ; in using thoses rites as instruments, he intended to give his social and symbolic capital a political expression, in competition with the other actors of the ritual system he belonged to. - a sociological articulated link : the pretender's familiarity with higher classes whose reverence to the "Maison de France" is part of their habitus, compelled the princes to borrow their social structures from those classes and to try to widen their sociological basis. - an ideological articulated link : the ideological corpus conveyed by the counter-revolution, the catholic circles and the society elite also produced a whole vocabulary and a syntax that the 'Comte de Paris' could use to embrace his time, thus following the example of all the dissidents of the 'Action française'

Full textWhat place does Greek and Roman antiquity have in European memory? For some, it is an unsurpassable model and the modern can only imitate its great authors. For others, it is a time of ignorance and barbarism to forget. For others still, it is a subject of curiosity, like a tribe of Amazonia, with its strange customs. For our authors, three writers of the nineteenth century, it is a bit of all this and more: Antiquity is for them the source of all future developments of civilization and knowledge. One of them writes "nothing great has a great beginning": history progresses from small intuitions. Religion, science and culture were thus born in antiquity and continued until modern times, threatened nevertheless by theorists eager for upheavals. Modernity is in fact another return from the same conflict, between the temptation of Greek division and the Roman aspiration for unity

Full textAs a Reichstag elected representative of the Deutschvölkische Freiheitspartei from May 1924 and then as a member of the NSDAP from 1928, as well as a prolific journalist and editor of the "völkisch" periodical publication Der Reichswart, Count Ernst zu Reventlow (1869 ? 1943) has distinguished himself through his activism within the "völkisch" movement and then through the responsibilities he had in NSDAP.It should be remembered that this intellectual and former naval officer, born to a Lutheran aristocratic family in Schleswig-Holstein, did put into words articulate original religious thoughts.Based on the analysis of Reventlow's religious works and the articles with a religious theme in Der Reichwart (1920-1943), this study aims at proving the specificity of his religious thoughts as well as their political and cultural implications in the "völkisch" religious movement, and particularly in the national socialist system

Full textThis work deals with the fundamental problems encountered by taxonomists (linneaus and buffon, in the past, as well as modern-day biologists typing bacteria and viruses). It refers to the old dispute between nominalists and realists and to the questions of aristotle : is it possible to define a living thing as a unique entity ? how can the terms gender and species be applied to living being ? is there a way to acknowledge the cohesion of the living world ? attempts have been made to define human races. Since buffon, the inability of naturalists to cast aside the accepted hierarchies added to the difficulties of biological classification. This explains why no definitive study has been produced, in this field, until recently. This work discusses the genome as logos. It examines the possibility of a physical definition of a human beeing by using the genome and neuronal activity. It offers a critical study based on the contemporary philosophy of mind and on the analysis of descartes's views by merleau-ponty. This work posits that the use of physical traits and generational characteristics to" identify an individual or a group is arbitrary. In making the distinction among political entities, that which is inherently culturally acquired is frequently naturalised

Full textTHE END OF THE DYNASTIC UNION BETWEEN SPAIN AND PORTUGAL IN 1640 BRINGS TO AN END A SIXTY YEAR PERIOD OF PENINSULAR UNITY. WHEN INTEGRATED IN THE HISPANIC MONARCHY, THE PORTUGUESE CROWN WAS GIVEN ASSURANCE THAT ITS AUTONOMY AND IMMUNITIES WOULD BE RESPECTED BY THE NEW CASTILIAN KINGS. YET UNDER COUNT-DUKE OF OLIVARES, WHOSE GOVERNMENT WAS CHARACT ERISED BY EFFORTS TO strengthEN THE LINKS BETWEEN THE VARIOUS CROWNS OF THE MONARCHY, THE INITIAL PACT WAS APPARENTLY BROKEN. THIS DISSERTATION FOCUSES ON THE ACTUAL CONDITIONS UNDER WICH NON-PORTUGUESE COURTS OF LAW OPERATED ON PORTUGUESE TERRITORY IN THAT PERIOD. INDEED, SUCH LEGAL TRANSGRESSION IS, IN THE CONTEXT OF ANCIEN REGIME, THE ONLY TOUCHSTONE AVAILABLE IN ORDER TO ASSESS THE EFFECTS OF A DELIBERATE WILLINGNESS TO DOWNGRADE THE STATUS OF A CROWN TO THAT OF A PROVINCE. WHILE DISMISSING INTERPRETATIONS DOMINATED BY A NATIONALISTIC READING OF THE EVENTS, THIS DISSERTATION PROPOSES TO OBSERVE, ON VARIOUS SCALES, THE FORMS UNDER WICH AUTHORITY WAS EXERCISED IN PORTUGAL. IT THUS IPSO FACTO RAISES THE QUESTION OF THE POLITICAL DEFINITION FO THE ANCIEN REGIME HISPANIC MONARCHY. THE ANALYSIS OF SEVENTEENTH CENTURY PORTUGUESE POLITICAL LIFE IN THAT TWENTY YEAR'S PERIOD PROCEEDS IN THREE MAIN DIRECTIONS : THE DEFINITION OF KEY ELEMENTS IN THE POLITICAL CULTURE AT THAT TIME, THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE INSTITUTIONAL HISTORY OF THE VICE-ROYALTY, THE STUDY OF THE DAILY WORKINGS OF CASTILIAN DECISION-MAKING BODIES IN PORTUGAL

Full textIt is in the early 10th century that feudality settled in the county of forez (present department of loire). An atmos027300064phere of piece connected to the duties of defense performed by the nobility, the lack of serfdom (land-owning peasants) and the fairly moderate rate of duties was to open up on e first movement of progress. Varied customs of currency distinguished that society. Thus for exemple, payments could be made through the delivery of agricultural products (farming dues), of unminted metal (silver bullions) or else of metal coins (deniers). It is in the course of the 13th century that the forez society witnessed a number of changes characterized by an urban rise, a development of commercial activity and the setting up of a tax-system involving cash money more than ever before (duties on market sales, tolls, fines). If the sign of power used to be the amount of land and the number of dependent people allowing the nobility to take their share of the agricultural production, the changes in society contributed to making money the new sign of wealth and power. Consequently an evolution of the customs of currency

Full textRalph, count of Eu, became constable of France in 1329 at the death of Gaucher de Châtillon, his predecessor. The sources have made possible to study three aspects of this man : in a first time, his life and action as constable of France at the beginning of the Hundred Years War, including a chapter on the office of constable. Secondly, his circle of knights and men-at-arms who served him in his house or his company at war. Then the second volume contains the complete edition of his register of accounts and some other sources (his bataille for 1340). This document is useful for the historians to understand a lifestyle of a great lord in the beginning of the XIVth century : his house, his family circle, his life during the military campaigns and the merchants who made possible such a lifestyle. This is a contribution to military, nobility and political history as well as one to economic and social history
