Full textIndustry is, today as it has always been, a cornerstone of the economy for any developed country. Having a strong manufacturing base is very important because it impels and stimulates all the other sectors of the economy. It provides a wide variety of job, which bring higher standards of living to many sectors of society, and builds a strong middle class. Increasing global competition, rapid changes in the marketplace and the need to create stable companies with profitable plants require the implementation of a global approach, taking into account technical, economic, logistic and societal aspects in the design of an innovative manufacturing system. The aim of this dissertation is to contribute to the development of an innovative concept of Reconfigurable and Agile Manufacturing Systems (RAMS) to adapt quickly and effectively to the requirements imposed by markets, customers, technology processes, the environment and society, to ensure that the enterprise is dynamic, competitive and profitable. In this thesis work, the characterization and proposal of a generic model for this new type of manufacturing system have been described using the language of complex systems modeling (SysML: Systems Modeling Language). We have developed a reconfiguration process that represents the approach to follow in the design and implementation of a new configuration. In addition, the operational control of a RAMS has been introduced. Finally, some works developed in this thesis have been partially deployed on an industrial demonstrator within the AIP-PRIMECA Auvergne organisation

Full textThis work is devoted to use of Petri nets for modeling and evaluating non-cyclic manufacturing systems. To model such a system we define a class of Petri nets called RPES (Petri nets with inputs and outputs transitions). After studying the properties of a subclass of RPES, the RPES without conflict, we show how to decompose a RPES into a set of RPES without conflict and define conditions under which the use of RPES without conflict ensures that the system exhibits desirable qualitative properties. The system evaluation is based on a short-term planning followed by a scheduling. The planning problem consists in finding the number of times each RPES without conflict is activated in each elementary period. We show that this problem can be formulated as a linear or quadratic programming problem according to the criterion to be optimized. Efficient methods are proposed for solving this problem. To solve the scheduling problem we propose two heuristics methods : one is a simulated annealing like algorithm and the other one a branch and bound alogithm. To facilitate the use of these algorithms we integrate them into a software with a graphical interface. Next, several comparative studies are done in each step of the evaluation phase. Finally, we apply our methodology on a set of large size examples and we analyse the results

Full textDuring the design phase of a production system, all functional and technological alternatives should be explored in order to propose the best possible solutions. This often results in a combination of several sub-problems such as: selection of pieces of equipments from a set of candidate solutions for each manufacturing operation, dimensioning and allocation of buffers and storage areas, balancing workload among the different workstations, the specification of the type and capacity of the material handling system and the layout of equipments which consists of determining which workstations should be adjacent to each other and how they should be connected. In this context, we were interested in performance evaluation and optimization of serial production lines which are very common in high volume production systems. We have proposed a new analytical method, known as « Equivalent Machines Method» to evaluate the production line throughput. This method has the advantages to be more accurate and faster than the existing approaches in the literature. We have also established the relevance of this method for evaluating the production rate of series-parallel systems and other serial lines with machines having multiple failure modes. We have also developed a new algorithm based on nonlinear programming approach to solve the buffer allocation problem

Full textIn a difficult industrial context, the manufacturing system must evolve. The manufacturing system is a complex system which is composed by a unit of interdependent resources to transform, to move, to store the products. The finality of any manufacturing system is to get better in order to survive. One of the responses to satisfy this finality is the implementation of Lean Manufacturing. In order to implement the Lean Manufacturing, a detailed manufacturing system modelling is necessary. This modelling generates a complex network of relations between the resources and activities whose it is difficult to obtain an immediate understanding. This interlacing of relations contains a whole of contradictions which it is difficult to extract. A contradiction is expressed by the opposition which the value of system parameter can take to satisfy needs for implement the Lean Manufacturing. A contradiction is expressed by this way: the transfer lot size must be raised to reduce displacement costs of products, but the transfer lot size must be weak to reduce post-operative storing costs. The difficulty to formalize these contradictions lies in the lack of information's structuring to implement Lean Manufacturing and the judicious choice of model. This model must be in coherence with Lean Manufacturing. In order to provide an explanation for better comprehension of Lean Manufacturing implementation, we propose a method for formalize the contradictions. In order to construct this method, we use certain concepts descended from Theory of General System, Axiomatic Design and OTSM-TRIZ. For greater clarity, we implement this method within the framework of description of specific contradictions network to the lead manufacturing time reduction. Finally, we propose a manner to explore this contradictions network within a workshop study

Full textFace to strong competitive markets, current companies tend to new methods of production, from a logic of "planning" type of production to a logic of "Just in time " type. In this context, the system which allows to control the production has to be a modular, flexible and reactive system. The hierarchized classical approaches don't permit any more to take into account the complexity linked to such system. That's why, we propose an approach which has a reactive, distributive, and emergent properties to control the system of production, based on multi-agent system principles. The aim of this thesis is to propose an approach and model in order to facilitate the design of modern production activity control. We have proposed a model based on organisational concepts such as the groups and roles, concepts of interaction of the FIPA (intelligent Foundation for physical agents) such as the protocols

Full textThe focus of this research work is on proposing a joint analysis of product design and assembly process that analyses the product similarity in terms of design and assembly technology similarity to group them into families. For these product families, a new architectural design approach for their assembly system is presented based on components used to locate subassemblies during the assembly operations. It allows the production system to be redesigned based on locating sequences, locating scheduling and compatible locating schemes for a multi-product assembly. This approach is used to design reconfigurable production systems and to identify relevant opportunities for new multi-product systems. The proposed method is evaluated by case studies in cooperation with the industrial partner

Full textIn a world where techniques does not always bring a decisive advantage, so much it is shared by competitors, the human capital of the company constitutes a major competing asset. Competence, or rather "the increasing of competences", is in the heart of this process of capitalization of knowledge. For companies, as for schools, it becomes urgent to have a powerful and reactive tool for formation on an increasing training market. Our work falls under this context and relates to the design (or the Re-design) of "production systems of competence". It tries to propose models, methodology and tools for assistance to the improvement of the systems of formation by relying upon production systems design engineering development. While basing itself on CIMOSA model and AICOSCOP methodology, on one hand, and on the relations existing between the entities Task – Competence – Actor – Activity, on the other hand, we proposed a model of the competences production system and an design engineering of this system ; we defined this engineering by "engineering of formation". Four examples of application are given to validate our approach ; they relate to so much the companies requests that those of school, particularly for the design of a production system of competence in Industrial genious, definition, dimensioning and specification of a formation dedicated laboratory and finally the search for obectives definition and performance indicator setting for a formation system

Full textThis thesis aims to elaborate new control strategies based on Model Predictive control for wind energy generation system. We addressed the topology of doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) based wind generation systems which is suitable for generation platform power in the range in 1.5-6 MW. Furthermore, from the technological point of view, the three-level neutral-point clamped (3L-NPC) inverter configuration is considered a good solution for high power due to its advantages: capability to reduce the harmonic distortion of the output voltage and current, and increase the capacity of the converter thanks to a decreased voltage applied to each power semiconductor. In this thesis, we presented a detailed description of finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC) with two step horizon for two control schemes: grid and DFIG connected 3L-NPC inverter. The principle of the proposed control scheme is to use system model to predict the behaviour of the system for every switching states of the inverter. Then, the optimal switching state that minimizes an appropriate predefined cost function is selected and applied directly to the inverter. The study of issues such as delay compensation, computational burden and selection of weighting factor are also addressed in this thesis. In addition, the stability problem of FCS-MPC is solved by considering the control Lyapunov function in the design procedure. The latter study is focused on the compensation of dead-time effect of power converter

Full textThis thesis deals with the design and optimization problems of the reliability of the systems taking into account the redundant dependency. First, we focus on the design of repairable dependent parallel and k out of n: G systems. After recalling the redundant dependency model presented in the literature for parallel systems, we propose a more general model for the k out of n: G systems. This model allows quantifying the failure dependence between the redundant components of the system. We also evaluate the stationary system availability considering the dependence based on the Markov models. Then, we study the design of the series repairable k out of n systems considering the redundant dependency notion. These problems are treated under two optimization approaches: single and multicriteria. In the single criterion approach, we first address the minimization problem of the costs under a required availability constraint. We propose to solve it by using the LINGO solver and by developing genetic algorithms and ant colony optimization algorithms. These algorithms are then improved by a local search. In a second step, we study the dual problem of availability maximization which we solve using the genetic algorithms and LINGO. In the multicriteria approach, we simultaneously consider both objectives. We propose multi-objective algorithms based on the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithms (NSGA2) and the second version of the Strength Pareto Evolutionary Algorithm (SPEA2)

Full textIn order to achieve responsiveness, flexibility, cost reduction and increased productivity, companies searching for solutions to conventional manufacturing control in terms of robustness, adaptability, rapid configuration and an efficient use of resources. The Holonic and Service-oriented Architectures have been proposed as solutions for the conception of such kind of systems, the former ( in the manufacturing), providing flexibility at the control level, the latter ( in the computer science) at a process level. The combination of both has been recognized as a very attractive solution for the design of the Next Generation Manufacturing Systems. However, the integration of the concept of services needs new models to adapt to the manufacturing context, specifically for process planning and scheduling. This work proposes a product driven Service Oriented Holonic Manufacturing System architecture (SoHMS) as a methodology for modeling flexible production systems with a set of models and prescriptive methodologies for its specification. As models, we contribute with a manufacturing service model (MService) and a computational Flexible Petri-Net based Process Model; an orchestration protocol and strategies for the Integrated Process Planning and Scheduling of such processes for the effective and efficient exploration of solutions while dealing with the problem of combinatorial complexity; as well as the holonic models and protocols forming the SoHMS architecture. As methodologies, we propose a framework for: conceiving manufacturing services and processes specifications, the creation of an application service-ontology, and a methodology for modeling flexible petri- net models

Full textCrop-livestock integration at territory level may be a pathway to impove metabolic functions and delivery of ecosystem services in agricultural systems, overcoming the constraints of farm specialization. This thesis builds on a methodology of participatory design of integrated crop-livestock systems at territory level in three steps: diagnosis of issues, design of technical and organizational options for change, multicriteria assessment. Each step is supported with a conceptual framework and a multicriteria grid adapted to the case study in Aveyron river basin. The designed scenarios show two approaches of crop –livestock integration: the introduction of alfalfa in downstream cropping systems sold to upstream livestock systems through a local supply chain and the direct exchanges of alfalfa, cereal-legume mixtures and animal manure in local groups of organic farmers. Both scenario present improved sustainability performances and could be complementary to initiate more sustainable practices in local farming systems. The methodology allows designing multi-level and multi-domain scenarios of crop-livestock integration. It could be improved with models for quantitative assessment of benefits and coordination costs among stakeholders

Full textIn this work, we are interested in the production systems design based on Petri nets. The objective is to check the qualitative properties of the system in a step by step design process. An efficient behavior of un system needs an appropriate design. Thus, the Petri net model of the system should possess desirable qualitative properties, namely : consistency, conservativeness, structural boundedness, repititiviness, deadlock-freeness and liveness, and so on. We consider a step design process which corresponds to a real life situation. The action taken at each step consists of adding places and/or transitions to an existing model, or of integrating several existing models by merging places and/or transistions. We examine the problem from the point of view of an engineer who designs a model and who wants to know, at each cach step of the design process, if his model preserves the required properties. The results presented in this thesis provide a theorical basis for the development of a tool devoted to this kind of tests. The theoretical results presented in this work allow to perform these checkings by only considering a part of the whole model. Using linear algebraic methods, we propose necessary and/or sufficient conditions to preserve consistency, conservativeness, structural boundedness and repetitiviness. Deadlock-freeness and liveness are checked using siphons and traps. We prove theorems that give the evolution of the siphon and trap bases from step to step in the design process. These results allow to develop algorithms to find out the siphon and trap bases. We define the notion of fatal siphon from which we establish necessary and/or sufficient conditions for the deadlock-freeness of any ordinary Petri nets and the liveness of asymmetric nets and event graphs with shared resource places. We show that the absence of fatal siphons can be checked out by a linear program

Full textIn the context of fixed market prices for a set of goods selected to be manufactured, the design of a supply chain network can be interpreted as a coalition formation problem in the cooperative game theory framework and formulated as a linear production game (LPG). This study investigates the possibility of combining the requirement of coalition stability with a fair allocation of profits to the participants. It is shown that, in general, the purely competitive allocation mechanism does not exhibit the property of fairness. Two techniques are proposed to correct this defect. The first one consists in introducing transfer payments among the players of the optimal coalition. The second technique relies on an improved representation of capacitated resources through clearing functions. Now, if an enterprise network decides to organize itself as a supply chain and imposes the wholesale price of its manufactured goods, then the supply chain design problem under a price elastic random demand from the market can be formulated as a biform game. This situation has generated a quadratic production game (QPG) not yet studied in the literature. It has been shown that this game has a non empty core and it is generally non convex. Finally, it has been proved that global profit optimality is obtained if the manufacturing network is directly selling the goods to the market rather than to a retailer

Full textThe GRAI approach allows modelling decisional structure of production systems. The GRAI model decomposes the decision system in several levels from long term to short term. It is used to model, diagnosis and design of production systems through the GIM approach (GRAI Integrated Modelling). Our research is firstly concerned with the modelling of knowledge necessary for designing production systems. These knowledge can be explicit (reference models, rules,) or tacit (previous studies capitalised as cases). Secondly as the goal being to develop computer aided tools, we have to elaborate a formalised representation of design process for the design phase of GIM. A structured approach is used to elaborate the specifications of the hybrid expert system (GRAIXpert) for diagnosis and design of production systems. A problem solving method combining different reasoning techniques is also defined and associated to the expert system

Full textNowadays, robots are increasingly used in industrial processes. However, there is an upper bound on the tasks' complexity that industrial robots can execute. Some of these hard tasks can only be completed with a high adaptation capacity: the plasticity of human cognition. Research in Human Robot Collaboration targets the Industry 4.0 where robots will help and augment humans to achieve increasingly complex tasks. In this research, we introduce the concept of “cobotic system”. Such a system considers humans and robots - with possibly different roles - as interacting elements sharing a common purpose of solving a task. Clearly, creation of cobotic systems has to take into account emerging technologies, but it also has to include humans through activity analysis, knowledge formalization, and participative simulations. To do so, under the leadership of Safran Group, this cognitive engineering thesis has been completed as a team with the roboticist David Bitonneau.Together, we proposed the “cobotic system engineering”: a cross-disciplinary approach of cobotic system design. This methodological approach was motivated by an industrial need from Airbus Group: the difficulty of tank cleaning. We tackled this project from needs analysis to the creation of a prototype evaluated by actual operators. Additionally, the industrialization of our work is in progress. We argue that thanks to their flexibility, their connectivity to modern workshops' technological ecosystem and their ability to take humans into account, cobotic systems will be one of the key parts composing the Industry 4.0
