Full textIndustry is, today as it has always been, a cornerstone of the economy for any developed country. Having a strong manufacturing base is very important because it impels and stimulates all the other sectors of the economy. It provides a wide variety of job, which bring higher standards of living to many sectors of society, and builds a strong middle class. Increasing global competition, rapid changes in the marketplace and the need to create stable companies with profitable plants require the implementation of a global approach, taking into account technical, economic, logistic and societal aspects in the design of an innovative manufacturing system. The aim of this dissertation is to contribute to the development of an innovative concept of Reconfigurable and Agile Manufacturing Systems (RAMS) to adapt quickly and effectively to the requirements imposed by markets, customers, technology processes, the environment and society, to ensure that the enterprise is dynamic, competitive and profitable. In this thesis work, the characterization and proposal of a generic model for this new type of manufacturing system have been described using the language of complex systems modeling (SysML: Systems Modeling Language). We have developed a reconfiguration process that represents the approach to follow in the design and implementation of a new configuration. In addition, the operational control of a RAMS has been introduced. Finally, some works developed in this thesis have been partially deployed on an industrial demonstrator within the AIP-PRIMECA Auvergne organisation

Full textFace to strong competitive markets, current companies tend to new methods of production, from a logic of "planning" type of production to a logic of "Just in time " type. In this context, the system which allows to control the production has to be a modular, flexible and reactive system. The hierarchized classical approaches don't permit any more to take into account the complexity linked to such system. That's why, we propose an approach which has a reactive, distributive, and emergent properties to control the system of production, based on multi-agent system principles. The aim of this thesis is to propose an approach and model in order to facilitate the design of modern production activity control. We have proposed a model based on organisational concepts such as the groups and roles, concepts of interaction of the FIPA (intelligent Foundation for physical agents) such as the protocols

Full textThe subject of our thesis focuses on the systems of quality control of production. In a competition, the complex of production systems must to integrate customer satisfaction and anticipation of customer on their needs, internally and externally. To achieve this goal, the satisfaction of customers, we use the concept of control and quality management. In this thesis, we proposed a methodology to control the process of piloting, then the optimization of the production system. In the start of our methodology, we call the tools of SPC (statistical processes control) to determine the critical process and collect the necessary data, then we use the method of IDEF (IDEF0 - IDEF3) to realize the functional model. The second step in our methodology is the realization of dynamic model which based on Petri nets by using specific rules. We applied this methodology on the maintenance system in a power plant. Moreover, we have proposed an approach to implementation of a quality management system (QMS). Finally, we realized the optimization of achieved model by using the simulated annealing and pace of machine. This thesis has been finalized by studying the various policies of quality control

Full textThe manufacturing world is being deeply challenged with a set of ever demanding constraints where from one side, the costumers are requiring products to be more customizable, with higher quality at lower prices, and on other side, companies have to deal on a daily basis with internal disturbances that range from machine breakdown to worker absence and from demand fluctuation to frequent production changes. This dissertation proposes a manufacturing control architecture, following the holonic principles developed in the ADAptive holonic COntrol aRchitecture (ADACOR) and extending it taking inspiration in evolutionary theories and making use of self- organization mechanisms. The use of evolutionary theories enrich the proposed control architecture by allowing evolution in two distinct ways, responding accordingly to the type and degree of the disturbance that appears. The first component, named behavioural self- organization, allows each system’s entity to dynamically adapt its internal behaviour, addressing small disturbances. The second component, named structural self-organization, addresses bigger disturbances by allowing the system entities to re-arrange their rela- tionships, and consequently changing the system in a structural manner. The proposed self-organized holonic manufacturing control architecture was validated at a AIP-PRIMECA flexible manufacturing cell. The achieved experimental results have also shown an improvement of the key performance indicators over the hierarchical and heterarchical control architecture

Full textMusculoskeletal disorders (MSD) are the leading cause of occupational disease in France.MSDs affect all areas of industry and services; from heavy and manufacturing industry to personal assistance services and handling in logistics centers.MSDs may appear after carrying loads, this task being particularly critical because of the intense and repeated efforts that it requires. One solution to prevent the appearance of MSDs is to physically assist workers in order to reduce the effort involved.Exoskeletons appear to be one of the most promising tools for providing this assistance. However, their control is one of the locks slowing down their deployment in the industry. This doctoral project aims to investigate control and command of an exoskeleton in interaction with an operator. Thus, a strategy to control an upper-limb exoskeleton for load carrying assistance, without prior knowledge of the mass, was developed and integrated. The originality of this research work lies in two points. The first one is the estimation of the user's intention as a torque via his muscular activity, measured with electromyographic sensors. And the second one is the use of this estimated intention in the effort control of an exoskeleton. This approach makes possible to compensate the weight of loads that are not known beforehand. This intention detection system is based on a hybrid method integrating a model of the torque applied according to the muscular activity and an artificial neural network, in order to evaluate the direction of the movement intended. The control system was then evaluated through an experimental protocol with ten participants. It was found that this method induced : (i) performances equivalent to a classical gravity compensation assistance (with prior knowledge of the load), but also (ii) a reduction of the participant's muscular activity (biceps, anterior deltoid, and erector spinae). Finally, a method of personalization of the the control system based on the user's response time was designed. The impact of the personalization of the parameters (controller gain) on the users was also analyzed, and this work demonstrated that this personalization facilitates the intuitive handling of the system.During development, particular attention was given to proposing an approach that could be easily deployed in the workplace, in order to take into account the industrial orientation of the applications.Indeed, this research work opens up new application perspectives for active exoskeletons dedicated to load carrying, such as in professional logistic area

Full textGoal of this thesis is to design and develop new approaches for the management and control of complex production systems. This work includes notions such as : the great variability of the products, the dynamic nature of the demand and the reconfiguration of products and processes. The implementation of these approaches requires a specific architecture at entity level to create autonomous, communicating and "intelligent" agents. The production control management strategy is an "heterarchical" one ; it integrates several concepts and mechanisms like self-organization, negotiation protocol based on "coopetition" (cooperation and competition) and the game theory. Production system control is made through a ressource dynamic allocation system between "products and resources", each one being represented by an agent. The negotiation protocol developed in this thesis conducted to the emergence of stable and adaptable reactive solutions, in dynamic and situated environments

Full textComplex systems having a long period of service are large scale systems that typically have stochastic behavior. In this thesis, we study, in particular, one type of these systems: the Bike Sharing System. The operating principle of this transport service consists of a fleet of bikes disposed in various stations. The users come to take bicycles to use them for their trip and then bring them back in any stations. As these systems are supposed to operate for long periods, new requirements can overcome (eg. station attractiveness) and performance degradation may occur. A decision support tool is thus required to analyze and improve the performance by control operations (eg. fleet size change) or re-design (eg. changing the capacity of a station). The stochastic modeling approach is used through a network of queues with limited capacity queues and a blocking mechanism. The resolution method of the proposed model is defined in the research work of Kouvatsos (1994).The case study is a sub-network of 20 Vélib's stations in Paris. The performance analysis according to exogenous changes and improvement operations (control and re-design) allowed us to deduce recommendations that can improve the performance of the system. As the method of solving this model has a great complexity, we propose a method of aggregation of the stations to reduce the size of the problem by having controllable errors. This method is implemented and evaluated for a particular system where all the parameters are homogeneous. Finally, the study of this method for a non-homogeneous system and other perspectives are proposed to extend this research work

Full textImproving the performance of medico-social sector requires management tools capable of quickly and synthetically provide a clear and quantified view of activities towards the users. Unfortunally, today does not exist a satisfactory tools to control activities in each structure, as neither at the level of the managing organization. The object of the research work is to develop tools to aid management and monitoring of activities in the medico-social sector in order to improve the current vision of the medico-social sector too compartmentalized. Closely related to Ressourcial (former information system department of OVE Foundation), this work is part of a CIFRE thesis and is one of the first theses of engineering sciences that address to organizational problems in the medical-social sector. The first scientific challenge of this research is to propose a formal and structured approach to monitoring activities in these institutions. The proposed approach should be able to realize a typology of activities in a very broad spectrum; activities performed by institutions with operating modes, and business cultures, highly heterogeneous. On this aspect, the scientist lock of this work is that the aggregation on the same model, intrinsically heterogeneous operating modes. The second scientific challenge of this thesis is the development of innovative approaches for analyzing these monitoring data and to aid management of these structures from the same data

Full textCrop-livestock integration at territory level may be a pathway to impove metabolic functions and delivery of ecosystem services in agricultural systems, overcoming the constraints of farm specialization. This thesis builds on a methodology of participatory design of integrated crop-livestock systems at territory level in three steps: diagnosis of issues, design of technical and organizational options for change, multicriteria assessment. Each step is supported with a conceptual framework and a multicriteria grid adapted to the case study in Aveyron river basin. The designed scenarios show two approaches of crop –livestock integration: the introduction of alfalfa in downstream cropping systems sold to upstream livestock systems through a local supply chain and the direct exchanges of alfalfa, cereal-legume mixtures and animal manure in local groups of organic farmers. Both scenario present improved sustainability performances and could be complementary to initiate more sustainable practices in local farming systems. The methodology allows designing multi-level and multi-domain scenarios of crop-livestock integration. It could be improved with models for quantitative assessment of benefits and coordination costs among stakeholders

Full textRecent advances in the field on inorganic LEDs, allow for manufacturing of GaN LEDs at micrometer scale. These optical devices, which were initially only manufactured with large dimensions, can be associated to a CMOS driving circuit to form micro-displays. GaN based micro-LEDs offer a maximum brightness and a commutation speed, well above other LEDs technologies used at micrometer scale. However, they also have specific electrical characteristics, such as reduced efficiency and large dispersion of behavior, when used with a reduced current. Consequently, driving methods commonly used with other types of LEDs are not appropriate for the control of such devices. This thesis focusses on the design of pixel driving circuits suitable for micro GaN LEDs, both in terms of implemented driving method and footprint compliance with the size of used LEDs. The first part of this work focusses on display applications, with a compact pixel matrix exploiting LEDs high brightness, while offering a large resolution. A PWM driving scheme, which implies sporadic operation of the LEDs under high current, is chosen to deal with LEDs specificities. In order to insure low silicon footprint despite the relatively high complexity of PWM driving, a 3D manufacturing of the circuit is introduced. A derivative of the CoolCube 3D technology that is developed by CEA Leti, is considered to manufacture a micro-display on three superposed levels. The driving circuit is split between the two first levels, made a CMOS circuit with different types of transistors. An array of GaN LEDs form the third level for the display. The second part of this thesis focusses on exploiting the reduced commutation time of the GaN LEDs. The ability to generate a high frequency optical signal is appropriate for building visible light communication emitters. Several free space optical communication emitters reported in the literature use a single GaN LED to transmit data at several Gb/s. Although, these single LED emitters are very fast, they are cumbersome and complex to build. Other emitters, based on a group of LEDs each emitting a part of the optical signal, forms an alternative solution. Even though data transmission is currently slower using these emitters, matrix based emitters are much more compact. This work introduce the design of a binary pixel, which make the LED switch between its two possible states, ON and OFF. Thanks to a LED introduced parasitic capacitance compensation method, this circuit reaches a 333 MHz operation frequency. Finally, a study of the best pixels organization inside the array led to a thermometer type of pixel control. The resulting association between each input code and the activated pixels insures the conversion monotonicity. It also shows a better linearity than other matrix control schemes with simpler implementations

Full textThis PhD thesis is dedicated to the modeling and simulation of microscopic traffic behavior in virtual reality system, with the intent of providing a new approach to effectively ensure traffic safety. At first, Virtual Reality Intelligent Simulation System of Vehicles (VR-ISSV), based on multi-agent, is proposed to simulate the intelligent microscopic traffic, which is a hierarchical modular modeling and simulation system consisting of hardware, network and operating system layers, visualization management layer, multi-agent layer, human-machine interface layer. The multi-agent layer includes entity agents (intelligent vehicle agents and around vehicle agents), service agent and environment agent. Second, for the intelligent vehicle agent model, a decentralized design paradigm is used for developing the multi-controller based intelligent vehicle, whereby the car following behavior and the overtaking behavior could be realized by the coordination of the multi-controller. The environment agent is constructed based on the conception of Synthetic Natural Environment (SNE), taking into account the interaction between the vehicles and the natural environment. Geographic Information System (GIS) is used to establish environment agent. Finally, to ensure the safety in microscopic traffic maneuver, the intelligent vehicle controllers adapting to complex environment are considered. Fuzzy logic based controllers are designed for sending the appropriate outputs to the vehicle’s actuators – the steering wheel and the throttle/brake pedals. Microscopic traffic behavior models based on the intelligent vehicle agent involving environment are studied

Full textThe work done during this thesis aims to explore new ways to improve the manufacturing systems flexibility, safety and performances, introducing infotronic technologies into their control systems. This follows some previous work on the PROSIS (Product, Resource, Order and Simulation Isoarchic System) control model. The first way is about the use of RFID technology to ensure the integrity of the information and decision system, regarding the physical state of the manufacturing system. For that, a RFID tag is associated with the material part of each holon (M_holon), and this ensures the synchronisation wi the informational and decisional part (I_holon). The second way is the use of the ambiant intelligence concept. The I_holon has various information processing tasks to do during his lifetime. The tools to do these tasks are proposed to them in the form of services, freely available, and hosted by specialised support entities. The third way of improvement is related to the interconnexion of the actual product processing activities and the internal logistics functions. A Montrac transitic system, including autonomous shuttles, has been integrated in the Holonic Manufacturing Execution System developped during this thesis using the PROSIS principles. These ways of improvement has been implemented in demonstrators to validate their viability in a real small-size workshop. This has allows the comparison of the PROSIS approach with others, using the results of academic benchmarks

It allows the production system to be redesigned based on locating sequences, locating scheduling and compatible locating schemes for a multi-product assembly. Full textDuring the design phase of a production system, all functional and technological alternatives should be explored in order to propose the best possible solutions. This often results in a combination of several sub-problems such as: selection of pieces of equipments from a set of candidate solutions for each manufacturing operation, dimensioning and allocation of buffers and storage areas, balancing workload among the different workstations, the specification of the type and capacity of the material handling system and the layout of equipments which consists of determining which workstations should be adjacent to each other and how they should be connected. In this context, we were interested in performance evaluation and optimization of serial production lines which are very common in high volume production systems. We have proposed a new analytical method, known as « Equivalent Machines Method» to evaluate the production line throughput. This method has the advantages to be more accurate and faster than the existing approaches in the literature. We have also established the relevance of this method for evaluating the production rate of series-parallel systems and other serial lines with machines having multiple failure modes. We have also developed a new algorithm based on nonlinear programming approach to solve the buffer allocation problem

Full textThe assembly of the components on the car is the main activity of an automobile final factory. This activity of assembly generates a whole of essential tasks to the good performance of a final factory. It requires a powerful management of internal flows of supplies and in particular the routing of the parts from the warehouse toward the line where they will be assembled on the vehicles. The transport of these parts is ensured by logistic manpower. A crucial point of the internal logistics is the logistic balancing, that is the affectation between the logistic operators of the references to be delivered to the assembly line. The objective of this thesis is to create tools of decision-making aid for logistic balancing. We modelled the activity of a logistic operator taken independently of the other operators, simulated displacements of the operators in the alleys of an assembly workshop, proposed indicators of performances to evaluate the feasibility and the difficulty in holding a logistic station, evaluated the waste of time due to obstructions in the alleys of the workshop, and optimized the distribution of the references between the various logistic operators. We are able thanks to simulation to predict the performances of a given logistic balancing, and more precisely which will be the logistic stations with problems before the installation of this one in the workshop. We also provided an optimization tool which helps the person in charge of the logistic manpower to establish its balancing automaticaly

Full textThis thesis deals with the design and optimization problems of the reliability of the systems taking into account the redundant dependency. First, we focus on the design of repairable dependent parallel and k out of n: G systems. After recalling the redundant dependency model presented in the literature for parallel systems, we propose a more general model for the k out of n: G systems. This model allows quantifying the failure dependence between the redundant components of the system. We also evaluate the stationary system availability considering the dependence based on the Markov models. Then, we study the design of the series repairable k out of n systems considering the redundant dependency notion. These problems are treated under two optimization approaches: single and multicriteria. In the single criterion approach, we first address the minimization problem of the costs under a required availability constraint. We propose to solve it by using the LINGO solver and by developing genetic algorithms and ant colony optimization algorithms. These algorithms are then improved by a local search. In a second step, we study the dual problem of availability maximization which we solve using the genetic algorithms and LINGO. In the multicriteria approach, we simultaneously consider both objectives. We propose multi-objective algorithms based on the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithms (NSGA2) and the second version of the Strength Pareto Evolutionary Algorithm (SPEA2)

Full textIn order to achieve responsiveness, flexibility, cost reduction and increased productivity, companies searching for solutions to conventional manufacturing control in terms of robustness, adaptability, rapid configuration and an efficient use of resources. The Holonic and Service-oriented Architectures have been proposed as solutions for the conception of such kind of systems, the former ( in the manufacturing), providing flexibility at the control level, the latter ( in the computer science) at a process level. The combination of both has been recognized as a very attractive solution for the design of the Next Generation Manufacturing Systems. However, the integration of the concept of services needs new models to adapt to the manufacturing context, specifically for process planning and scheduling. This work proposes a product driven Service Oriented Holonic Manufacturing System architecture (SoHMS) as a methodology for modeling flexible production systems with a set of models and prescriptive methodologies for its specification. As models, we contribute with a manufacturing service model (MService) and a computational Flexible Petri-Net based Process Model; an orchestration protocol and strategies for the Integrated Process Planning and Scheduling of such processes for the effective and efficient exploration of solutions while dealing with the problem of combinatorial complexity; as well as the holonic models and protocols forming the SoHMS architecture. As methodologies, we propose a framework for: conceiving manufacturing services and processes specifications, the creation of an application service-ontology, and a methodology for modeling flexible petri- net models
