Full textThis work is in the field of the process diagnosis defined as the identification of process functional states. If obtaining a precise model of the process is delicate or impossible, the system knowledge can be extracted from the signals obtained during a normal or abnormal operation by including mechanisms of training. This knowledge is organized through a data space partition into clusters (representing the states of the system). Among the training techniques, those including fuzzy logic have the advantage of expressing the memberships of an individual to several classes, this makes possible to better know the real situation of the system and to envisage changes to failure states. Notwithstanding their adequate performances, their strong dependence on the initialization parameters is a difficulty for the training. This thesis proposes the improvement of these techniques, specifically our objective is the development of a method to validate and adapt automatically the partition of data space obtained by a fuzzy classification technique. This makes possible to find automatically an optimal partition in terms of clusters compactness and separation from only the membership matrix obtained by an initial classification. This method is thus an important help given to the process expert to establish the functional states in the implementation of a monitoring technique of a complex process. Its application is illustrated on academic examples and on the diagnosis of 3 chemical processes

Full textWhen a company makes the strategic decision of launching a new product family or redesigning an existing product, the system architect is in charge of designing and making evolve the architecture of this product. The system architect is also the Development Project (DP) manager and thus he is in charge of conceiving or making evolve at the same time the DP organisation (design teams). In this memory, our objective was to develop models and methods making it possible to help the system architects in this double duty. In short, we propose in this work a method for designing both product and organization architectures in the preliminary phases of the DB. In Engineering System context, our method is based on the definition of our own concepts of product architecture and modularity and in their extension to DP organization. We propose then in coherence with our positioning a clustering algorithm using DSM representation tool, the algorithm objective is to reveal project domains architectures starting from their matrix representation (DSM). The use of our method is tightly related to the design situations that the architect can face. In this memory, we identified four of them. For each one of these situations, we propose a method for architectures designing, calling upon a Fuzzy logic treatment. Each one of these situations is then illustrated by an application to the design of a thermal engine in the car industry. The step presented in this chapter is a static vision of the design of architectures. By opposition to this static vision, we show the need for making co-evaluate coupled architectures. We propose then the exploration of uncertainties to model systems evolution. We develop a method based on a fussy treatment to make co-evaluate disturbed architectures in order to obtain coherent ones

Full textThis study investigates the conception of the flower for students in different levels of schooling. The project was developed at a public school in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It is relevant to identify and to consider the conception given from each student about the subject studied for the process of learning. This conception reveals the relation between the students and the flower, showing what it needs for this conception to be known as a scientific knowledge. The research was made with 199 students, divided into four years of fundamental school and three years of middle school. The students responded to the quiz with short answers and produced a freehand drawing flower, showing in their activities your conception. The evaluation of the results demonstrated that when the students think about the flower they establish more relations with the knowledge from the humans’ relations than with the knowledge from natural science. Only the last year middle school students related more words from Botany knowledge. When all students expressed your knowledge through an explanation paragraph, most of them had the same conception: a flower is a little plant, but mainly she is beautiful and decorates our life. This survey it has shown to be very important to demonstrate the students’ initial idea about the flower. These ideas indicate that the exploration of the humanized knowledge can contribute to build a new way of thinking, from the science information that allows thinking about the flower as an indispensable element to the angiosperm’s reproduction, and the survival of species, and the specific biomes, and especially to the environmental preservation.

Full textComplex mechanical structures are composed of an assembly of several components, often exhibiting different mechanical properties and joined at their interfaces by different junction types. The various dynamic behaviours of these substructures and the applied external loadings generate important efforts on the main structure, resulting in high acceleration responses of the on-board equipments, affecting their performance, reliability and security. It is therefore necessary to protect them from these harsh conditions by isolating them from the rest of the structure. These researches are related to structural vibration control and aim at proposing a new method to dynamically characterize interfaces between different substructures. This method is then integrated to a robust design approach to minimize the power transmitted between a source and a receiver substructure. A power flow mode method has been developed, which allows determining eigenvalues and eigenvectors respectively representing qualitative and quantitative information on the power flowing inside the structure. This has been further applied to study the power transmitted at the interface, making it possible to identify the direction associated to the dominant power flow pattern and to quantify their contribution. These results have been applied to propose a robust design approach of structural interfaces. Optimization procedures have been implemented and compared to minimize the power transmitted between with respect to the interface stiffness parameters. The importance of considering the robustness of these solutions has been underlined by performing a complementary analysis based on a non-probabilistic approach

Full textBatch processes are of increasing industrial importance due to their ability to synthesize low-volume, high-value-added chemicals and to their flexibility in a market-driven environment. At the design stage, the plant capacity must be set considering both present and anticipated future product demands which are usually variable. This work proposes an alternative treatment of the uncertainty (demands) by using the arithmetic operations on fuzzy numbers. The general objective of this work is to propose a methodology for solving the design problem of industrial-size plants. In this study, we have introduced a fuzzy-GAs approach to solve the problem of multi-objective optimal design of a multiproduct batch chemical plant. The analysis showed to be helpful for decision making

Full textProduct design is switching to the multi-site distributed design. Indeed, the complexity of products with engineeringand economic constraints have accelerated the transformation and organization of design activities into serviceorientedin a distributed network. So, design for product configuration emerges as an effective tool to address thenew challenges of product design. Many researches on design for configuration consider the design problem only asa problem of arrangement of components. Indeed, the design process involves multi-trades, distribution of tradesand actors, and interaction in a dynamic and uncertain environment. Moreover, we believe that the internal structureof the design process is a homomorphic image of the product perceived discontinuities. Considering the space ofthe design for the configuration as multi-views, multi-dimensional and uncertain, this thesis focuses on the study ofdesign for the configuration as a holistic problem. We proposed to study: (1) understand and model design for configuration as a consensus-building problem betweendifferent trades; (2) understand and model the relationships within and between domains considering the design forconfiguration as a holistic problem; (3) formalize the generative grammars for product modeling in two main spaces:functional and structural and (4) model the links between these two spaces with the concept of design holon. Fromthese considerations, we establish the most important assumptions of our research: (a) Assumption of multi-view;(b) Assumption of fuzzy; (c) Assumption of derivation; (d) Holistic assumption and (e) Assumption of attractor. We have described a design model for configuration wherein the optimization aspects of configurations andsearching of configurations cores are integrated. Moreover, we proposed fuzzy graphs functional grammars andformal fuzzy functional grammars to represent formally and graphically the functional structures of product. We alsoproposed an approach of holonic modeling for configurations. The concepts of Fuzzy Design Holon and FuzzyAttractor are proposed to understand the co-evolution in design for configuration. We studied an industrial case ofdesign for configuration using modules of a power train

Full textOur works deal with the implementation of methodologies for production resolution and optimization taking into consideration economic imperatives, which are important parts in industrial manufacturing control. For the flexible job-shop problem, five criteria are considered : Makespan, the workload of the critical machine, the total workload of machines, the penalties of earliness/tardiness and the production cost. In this direction, the decision and evaluation problems are introduced and studied, and three integrated approaches, based on genetic algorithms, improving evolutionary approaches which exist in the literature, are presented : static method based on Choquet's integral, approached method based on the Pareto-optimality concept as well as the method based on the concept of ε-dominance Pareto-optimality. The proposed approaches are used to generate a variety of optimal solutions needed to help the decision-maker, when he can not give a particular preference to one of the objective functions. Proposed results, obtained globally for the overall of criteria, are successfully compared with those obtained by other existing approaches on several benchmarks presenting different complexities

Full textEyewitness testimony is a fundamental determinant to the resolution of criminal investigations. To conduct criminal investigations effectively, it appears essential to obtain complete and accurate testimony. For this purpose, a research team has developed a method based on the features of human memory, aiming to enhance the eliciting of eyewitness accounts: the cognitive interview (Geiselman et al., 1984). Although this method enables investigators to obtain detailed descriptions without reducing the quality of the testimony, it is still only marginally used by legal professionals. The objective of this thesis is twofold: it aims to provide interviewing instructions which take into account the psychological processes at work in the recalling of events in episodic memory, while simultaneously being acceptable from the standpoint of professional practice. The first step involved conducting an analysis of professional practices. An evaluation of training in cognitive interviewing by police investigators showed that the method is easily learnt and suggests that the lack of implementation in practice does not stem from the difficulties linked to its implementation, but rather arises as a result of a lack of acceptance among professionals. In order to further our understanding of the professional objectives of the hearing, we then conducted an analysis of practices in terms of hearing. This analysis revealed that investigators were essentially seeking out information about the actions which took place during the crime scene. Based on these findings, we designed a re-enactment-alike interviewing instruction, which activates the verbatim traces in memory and is intended to elicit the general and specific actions of a scene. This instruction was tested in an interviewing protocol and demonstrated its quantitative and qualitative effectiveness in providing a greater quantity of correct information compared with other instructions, whilst withstanding a concomitant increase in the number of errors. Re-enactment-alike instruction thus appears highly relevant for reaching the main objective of a police investigation

Full textObjectives: Despite much progress in medical-electrical management, some problems remain and several heart failure patients are still in a no option solution. In this way, artificial hearts as Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) have been developed. Despite evident benefits, several complications as thromboembolism, driveline infection, batteries dependency remain. ICOMS is a new LVAD concept mixing a fully intraventricular pump, heat rate-synchronized and connected with intracorporeal batteries. Methods and Results : It is expected to deliver 0.8 to 6.7 10-5 m3/s at rotational speeds of 733 to 942 rad/s over physiologic pressures and has a selected design point of 3.3 10-5 m3/s and 10.6 103 Pa . In this study, the axial blood pump with motor connected to impeller has been selected to numerical simulation. This selection is based on axial flow pump with different blade profile for each fluid region and studied on its performance such as efficiency, wall shear stress and considering effective operation for cardiac failure patients. In order to achieve the best result with the ANSYS software, k-ε turbulent model has been applied to obtain the flow characteristics from inducer inlet to straightener outlet of the pump. Numerical results show acceptable performance to deliver physiologic pressures with hydraulic efficiency of 10 to 37 % as well as acceptable maximum shear stress level along the blade tip surface of the impeller. The second part of the study is an experimental investigation where a prototype device was tested in a test bench circulation loop have shown that the pump could operate and improve the cardiac output of 1.7 to 6.7 10-5 m3/s. In vitro results converge to numerical results. For test vivo 6 sheep were operated for the LVAD implantation with the support of cardiopulmonary by-pass. The ICOMS was implanted into the LV apex. Several hemodynamic and echocardiographic parameters were stored as well as in normal or pathological conditions and analyzed. Conclusion: We showed that the ICOMS could present a potential effect in the LV support reducing the heart failure criteria. As evidence, further experimentations are necessary to confirm our result and to optimize this new LVAD

Full textIn the smart-cards market, contactless communication becomes more and more common. In order to reduce the cost of the systems, the power budget available reduces along with the size reduction of the antenna. Many design techniques are available to improve the efficiency of digital design. However, asynchronous designs, because of their adaptability to variable operating conditions, offer a natural solution for the contactless power supply problematics.Nevertheless, the lack of engineers trained, and proven tools, to design asynchronous circuits brakes the adoption of asynchronous designs in the industry. To address theses issues, a systematic method allowing to turn already existing synchronous designs into asynchronous micropipelines had been developed. Using a formal model, a desynchronization process was established and used on a cryptographic module which was implemented on silicon. The characterization allowed us to evaluate the relevance of the desynchronization flow but also its limitations. The efficiency of desynchronized systems depending largely on the architecture of the initial synchronous circuit, the proposed method allows a quick estimation of the performances of the desynchronized circuit, and results in functional circuits

Full textIn this work, the problem of design of fuzzy controllers is studied. In a first part, we present a state of art on the techniques used, namely the genetic algorithms and its various alternatives, the neural networks, fuzzy logic and their hybridizations. Taking support on this state of art, we propose a first design method of the fuzzy controllers of Mamdani by simple genetic algorithms. Thereafter, this method is improved by the use of the hierarchical genetic algorithms. These algorithms allow, by the means of the structure of their chromosomes, a better optimization of the controller parameters while eliminating the incoherent rules which can arise, as well as for the first method, at the end of the optimization process. The last method suggested relates to the synthesis of the fuzzy controllers of Sugeno. It is based on a hybrid procedure of training which proceeds in two stages. During the first stage, the fuzzy controller is represented in the form of a network of multi-layer neural networks, whose parameters are optimized by the algorithm of retro propagation. In the second phase, the parameters obtained at the end of the first phase are extracted and optimized by the NSGA-II according to a coding arranged hierarchically. These methods are applied for control of an alcoholic fermentation process in continuous mode

Full textOne aspect of the energy consumption reduction in buildings concerns the lighting. It cannot be considered without taking into account the visual comfort of people according to the task done, in particular in the tertiary sector. The study of the human perception leads to the conclusion that the natural lighting is the solution that allows the best comfort. However the management of the daylighting is difficult and the evaluation of the comfort remains subjective. This PhD work has led to the development of innovative equipments that allow firstly to measure several comfort criteria and thus to extract a comfort index, and secondly to implement the control of the visual ambiance while minimizing the energy consumption. The implemented comfort sensor relies on the extraction of information from images taken by a fish-eye camera in order to measure global (mean luminance, and barycentre of the luminance), and local criteria (dazzling points, and high contrast zones). These criteria are aggregated using fuzzy logic in order to determine a comfort index; this approach taking naturally into account the subjectivity among people of the concept of comfort. The management of the visual comfort relies on the control of two types of actuators: Venietian blinds and artificial lights. The implemented control is based on a structure with imbricate loops that allows the control of the different levels of information in this system (physical, optical, comfort criteria and index). It uses a set of models resulting from identification procedures and it is defined in order to reach a good robustness in regards with the model uncertainties and to reject perturbations. These implementations have been tested and validated experimentally within a room of openspace area type

Full textInterference is still the main limiting factor in cellular networks. We focus on the different coordinated multi-point schemes (CoMP) proposed in the LTE-A standard to cope with interference, taking into account the dynamic aspect of traffic and users’ mobility. The results are obtained by the analysis of Markov models and system-level simulations. We show the important impact of the scheduling strategy on the network performance in the presence of mobile users considering elastic traffic and video streaming. We propose a new scheduler that deprioritizes mobile users at the cell edge, in order to improve the overall system efficiency. We show that it is interesting to activate Joint Processing technique only in a high-interference network, its activation in a low-interference network may lead to performance degradation. We propose a new coordination mechanism, where a cell cooperates only when its cooperation brings a sufficient mean throughput gain, which compensates the extra resource consumption. Finally, we show that the coordination of beams is not necessary when a large number of antennas is deployed at each base station; a simple opportunistic scheduling strategy provides optimal performance. For a limited number of antennas per base station, coordination is necessary to avoid interference between the activated beams, allowing substantial performance gains

Full textThe planet is in a particularly worrying state of degradation of ecosystems, depletion of resources, demographic tension and a climate emergency. The decoupling of the consumption of raw materials with economic activity is a relevant action lever. By reducing the pressure on the scarcity of raw materials, the circular economy can participate in the fight against climate change. Although recycling alone cannot solve resource depletion, it is essential to implement solutions to regenerate the materials present in our waste. However, the current organization of the end-of-life sector does not seem to meet the needs of the world economy. The first challenge in deploying recycling solutions in the circular economy is based on evaluating the performance of recycling scenarios. The proposed methodology is based on several analytical tools: Material Flow Analysis (MFA), Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Life Cost Costing (LCC) in a technical reference framework based on the evaluation of environmental technologies (ETV). This work applies in partnership with the company MTB. Three performance axes were chosen: technical, economic and environmental. This multi-criterion assessment, integrated into the MTB design process, allows communication in the form of key performance indicators (KPI). By providing additional performance indicators it is possible to quickly quantify the eco-efficiency, to support decision-making by designers during the development of the recycling pathway

Full textThe fast evolutions of customers' requirements, of technologies, organizations, methods and tools in the field of design require that designers are developing their competences in order to maintain or increase the performances of the new product development projects. In this context, managers and designers need tools to help them to improve competence management. Our contribution to these topics is double: on the one hand, a model of the work situations is proposed in order to carry out the traceability of design activities and on the other hand, a fuzzy approach is developed in the aim to characterize competences. For the first stage, a conceptual framework has been proposed. In this framework, the situation is defined as a set of entities that participate with specific roles into various interactions. According to these concepts, an UML model of the design situation was proposed in order to organize the traces of design activities. For the second stage, we have proposed a model of competence including a set of technical knowledge and four kinds of capacities estimated with relative scores. The characterization process involves two steps: the first step concerns the qualifications of the situation characteristics by means of linguistic variables. The second step is realized by a fuzzy logic system which converts the result of the step of "situation qualification" into an estimated value of the components of the associated competence. The application of the method in an industrial context opens further research. It confirms the possibility of using this "principle of solution" to cope with other needs of competence management

Full textIn this work we have analysed two topics of fluid mechanics, applied to the design of fire fighting equipment. The first one is the performance of ventilation during the movement of air in a compartment that contains a fire. We have shown that specific blade angle designed within the gril and placed in front of the fan propeller, allows us to manipulate the jet of air giving it an oval shape. This shape is more efficient and allows a significant gain in the air movement performance within the compartment for these fans. The second aspect of this work was to define an emulsifier dosing system in a pressurized water system. We define a venturi dosing system with a movable cone piece. The position of this conical piece is Controlled by the pressure ratio between the inlet and the outlet. Based on Bernoulli's theorem, we have demontrated that this system maintains a level of suction at the Inlet regardless of the pressure or flow passing through it

Full textIn the context of mechatronic systems design, this thesis addresses the problem of parametric tolerance synthesis with respect to specifications including allowable uncertainties. We consider two types of uncertainty: aleatory uncertainty and epistemic uncertainty. The methodology is based on the inversion of the bond graph model and the propagation of uncertainty from output to design parameter. Aleatory uncertainties are modeled by the density probability functions (PDF). Epistemic uncertainties are modeled by membership functions (MF). The probabilistic and fuzzy bond graph are then defined. By affecting bicausality and exploiting the bicausal bond graph model, we obtain the inverse model of the system. The PDF and MF are then propagated through the inverse model to the design parameters. We propose two approaches for the propagation of uncertainty: the global approach and the local approach. In the global approach, the output PDF and MF are propagated through the overall relation between the outputs and the design parameters (the inverse model). In the local approach, the model is divided into several sub-models and the PDF and MF are transferred from sub-model to sub-model until they reach the design parameters. We then use the obtained PDF and MF for synthesizing the tolerances of the design parameters. The proposed methodology allows the treatment of aleatory uncertainty and epistemic uncertainty by appropriate tools, in a problem of parametric tolerance synthesis including complex specifications

Full textToday integrated systems are increasingly faced with the constraints of low consumption or energy efficiency. These issues need to be integrated as far upstream as possible in the design flow to reduce design time and avoid much iteration in the flow. In this context, the collaborative project HiCool, between LIRMM and TIMA laboratories, Defacto, Docea and ST Microelectronics companies, has set up a strategy and design flow to design integrated low power systems while facilitating the reuse of existing hardware blocks (IPs). The approach proposed in this thesis fits into this strategy by bringing a small dose of asynchrony in completely synchronous systems. Indeed, the reduction in consumption is based on the observation that permanent activation of the entire circuit is unnecessary in many cases. However, controlling the activity with techniques of "clock gating" or "power gating" usually need to perform a re-design of the system and to add a control device for controlling activation of areas effecting treatment. The work presented in this manuscript provides a strategy based clock controllers and power domain, asynchronous, distributed and easily insertable into a circuit with a low cost design

Full textThis PhD work concerns the study of hybrid air extractors. It is composed of upstream and applied investigations. In the upstream part, fine simulations are realized in square duct flow with and without rotation to analyse the impact of rotation on turbulence. It is found that rotation removes symmetry property of the flow with turbulent Reynolds number of 600. The applied part is dedicated to the conception of a new air extractor geometry. This geometry is proposed from the analyse of RANS simulations. Its performances are confirmed by experimental measurements on test rig. Wind tunnel tests of a wind power capturing system, designed for the extractor, show a good adequation to the operating regime of the extractor. Experimental investigations on the complete air extractor, show the wind power capturing system brings a significant part of the energy. Wind tunnel tests allow to observe the complete air extractor behaviour

Full textThe technology of microencapsulation normally includes two processes: the production of microdroplets/microemulsion and the process of their encapsulation. Due to the difficulties of controlling the microdroplet size, the microcapsules often have a large size distribution. The microfluidic technology allows to ameliorate the microdroplet monodispersity. The objective of this dissertation is to design and fabricate a microfluidic system for the production of size-controllable droplets and their encapsulation. The contribution of this dissertation consists in three aspects: firstly, the geometrical effects on the droplet formation. Secondly, the flow dynamics in the microfluidic systems: the conditions to realize different flow regimes, the laminar flow behaviour, the physico-chemical effects of biphasic fluids on droplet size, the cule correlating of droplet sizes. Thirdly, a microfluidic system is designed in which the whole process of microencapsulation is realized to fabricate the monodisperse microcapsules. They have many perspective applications
