Abstract:
The monograph traces the history of the development of German neoliberal economic thought from the origins of the Freiburg School in the 1930s to the first results of the practical implementation of the concept of a social market economy in West Germany in the late 1940s-early 1960s. The author demonstrates the broad historical context of the development of German ideas about the theory and practice of the policy of order (Ordnungstheorie und Ordnungspolitik), shows the features of the formation and spread of the scientific and intellectual economic tradition in Germany, as well as beyond its borders, starting with the birth of the German historical school and the perception of its heritage by Russian socio-economic thought in the second half of the XIX — early XX century and ending with the practical implementation of the concept of order of the Freiburg school and the correlation of its ideological and spiritual and moral foundations with the social teaching of Catholicism and liberalism of Friedrich von Hayek. Special attention is paid to some controversial issues of the formation of the theory of ordoliberalism during the period of national socialism and the problems of the social market economy in modern Germany. The book is intended to fill the shortage of specialized scientific literature on relevant issues and to acquaint the Russian reader, primarily students, teachers and researchers, with the variety of ideological and scientific-theoretical foundations of the socio-economic system of the post-war Germany.

Abstract:
This chapter focuses on the popularity of Harry T. Burleigh's spirituals in recitals and other concerts. Burleigh published his first solo arrangement of spirituals from 1911 to 1916, at a time when the tide of interest in African American folk music, especially spirituals, was gathering momentum. At least nineteen white American composers joined the stream. Black composers also produced compositions reflecting their folk heritage during these years. From the 1916–1917 concert season, when his solo arrangement of “Deep River” became the hit of the recital season, Burleigh's role as pioneer arranger and interpreter of spirituals began to eclipse his role as recital singer and art song composer. This chapter explores how the recurring controversy over the origins of African American music made Burleigh a spokesman for the uniquely expressive gifts of African Americans who, he argued, had created America's first genuine folk music. In particular, it considers Burleigh's view that the spirituals were the primary artistic contribution of African Americans. It also discusses the influence of Edward MacDowell on Burleigh's movement toward arranging spirituals as art songs.

Abstract:
Americans are perhaps the most openly and energetically religious of all the peoples among the developed nations. Americans are religious in all the obvious ways, belonging to churches, synagogues and mosques as well as nurturing private spiritualities. But they are religious also in public ways, aiming to find a standard large enough to frame their common life and to judge them and their country. In this book, William Dean describes the spiritual culture that is grounded in the emerging American story. He also explores the concept of God (or the “Ultimate”) that is central to that story - a concept that is reflected in contemporary American culture, including popular culture.

Abstract:
Palliative Care takes a holistic view of people who face progressive life-limiting illness and this includes the spiritual aspects of living and dying. Spirituality is a broad domain that is manifest in the sacred worldviews, beliefs, practices, and meanings around which people orientate their lives. Attending to the spirituality of patients ensures that their spiritual concerns are understood and addressed, the spiritual resources of the patient are recognized and enabled, and that care decisions and treatment choices are sensitive to the spiritual orientation of the patient. This chapter draws on current research and scholarship to explore spirituality in relation to living and dying well including beliefs and practices, suffering, and facing death. The practical aspects of spiritual care are also addressed and consideration is given to spiritual assessments, modes of spiritual care, and available resources.

Abstract:
This chapter argues that by secular medicine’s repudiation of religious partners, it ironically establishes itself as a religious-like phenomenon. Medicine is dangerously close to aligning itself with a spirituality of immanence centered on bodily cure and comfort as chief affection or ultimate concern. This realignment away from Western religions and toward a spirituality of immanence monopolizes the structures of medicine, marginalizing the Abrahamic religious traditions, and animating a rival spiritual power. Contemporary medicine is not freed from spirituality or religion. Medicine in its contemporary secular institutions and professions is both intrinsically spiritual in its ultimate concerns and loves and infused with a veiled, quasi-religious structure embedded in its systems. Clinicians are deeply socialized into immanence, leading them to unconsciously avoid or neglect their patients’ spiritual needs.
