Full textThe wall vibrations of a wind musical instrument imply various vibroacoustic couplings:duct/internal fluid and duct/external fluid. The duct/internal fluid is studied via the input impedance of the vibrating duct, which differs from the perfectly rigid case. The disturbance of the impedance, still very weak for usual parameters, is maximal when the eigenfrequency of a mechanical ovalling mode of the duct coincides with the one of an acoustic mode. When such a mechanical/acoustical matching occurs, slight timbre modification, or even more important disturbance can be observed on the produced sound. The duct/external fluid coupling is investigated via the acoustic radiation of a trombone bell free to vibrate, which differs from the case where its vibration are damped using sand. Some small differences of a few decibels are measured at frequencies of radiating mechanical modes, which are efficient from the acoustic radiation point of view

Full textThough the analysis of the moral monodic conductus by the poet, preacher and theologist Philip the Chancellor, the rhetorical qualities of this work are revealed both by words and music. They have a complex relationship either by enhancing the sounds of words, by clarifying their meaning or by setting a learned construction to be understood by people used to the subtelties of latin rhythmic poetry. Rules and figures are dictated by the will to deliver a moral message, these techniques being derived from others practices of speech. The poet-composer conceives the conductus with the same habits as the ones of the orator and the singing voice is an efficient means of teaching a large and varied audience. Each song seems to fit is own purpose by the sounds of the language, by the structure patterns or by melodic creation. The sung word thus becomes a weapon against all sinners and vices

Full textThe present work is devoted to the elaboration of hybrid materials based on host polymer matrices and silicon carbide nanocrystals (SiC) and to the investigations of their electro-optical properties. In this aim, SiC nanopowders with controlled features (size, structure) were synthesized by laser pyrolysis of gaseous mixtures (silane, acetylene). Suitable spectroscopic studies have revealed different surface states and allow us to select two representative SiC nanopowders. From controlled homogeneous SiC suspensions, SiC/polymer thin films were deposited by spin-coating. Relevant treatments (annealing, electrical poling) were realized to obtain composite films with good optical properties. The measurements of the effective electro-optical coefficients were carried out by the Sénarmont method in the dynamic regime where alternative voltage is used to probe the material birefringence. The systematic investigations, taking into account various parameters (SiC loading, surface state, nature of polymer, etc), revealed the key role played by the SiC/polymer interfaces on the electro-optical modulation of the composites. With effective linear electro-optical coefficients in the range 5-7 pm/V, i. E. In the order of the efficiency of standard electro-optical crystals, the potential application of the SiC/polymer hybrid systems as electro-optical modulator is demonstrated

Full textIn 1989, after ten years of research, François Delalande presented for the first time the idea of “listening behaviours,” distinguishing several ways to listen to the same piece of music. The methodology did not allow for many conclusions, but the approach began a new field of research, where diverse listening behaviours could serve as a basis for diverse, exclusive (or even contradictory) analyses of the same work. Furthermore, Delalande’s preliminary research based on an extract from Pierre Henry’s music is still one of the few instances of research about acousmatic music listening that addresses actual listeners. The last twenty years have seen the reproduction and extension of Delalande’s results, as well as a growing interest for listening in musicological circles. For this reason, it seems necessary to review research about listening behaviours to evaluate their operational validity and to propose a robust theoretical framework for their study and description. This is the thesis of this dissertation, beginning with a review of the musicological, psychological and pedagogical discourses about listening, following with a critical study of existing methodologies about listening behaviours frameworks in order to re-evaluate them with more robust methodologies. Three esthesic analyses of the same work are then used to propose a need for further investigation and possible applications of the framework

Full textThis research is a reflection on the musical fact, its emergence, its inner workings and its foundation. How and why does man create and play music? This work delimits a particular space in it threefold dimension: spatial, historical, and political. It is the case of Guadeloupe, French Guiana, and Martinique, former New World colonies, which are current French departments located in America, and which also became European ultra-peripheral regions. Methodologically, the case study is privileged. The fortuitous emergence of a funeral Bélia during Aimé Césaire's national funeral -is the starting point from which was approached the mechanism of music creation andconstruction of repertoires in French West Indies and Guiana. The tension between musical elaboration and its assessment is the main issue of our research. This context makes it possible to check the hypothesis of filiation, exchanges which govern the relations between material, mechanism of musics creation, and circumstantial human links. The hierarchy of those links and of the functions of the repertoires includes the creation of music. Deniai behaviors represent the main determinant for establishing status linked to corpus in order to institute practices. The obvious result of our work emphasizes an invention Lawonn or trialectical device: musical material in bipolarity/musical Assembly/Thought or Speech to form repertoires in reply to recurrent occasions or circumstances. Generally, the result is a phenomenon of transformation of thinking about the construction and the evolution of human links. It can be radical and become formalized in an inversion of those links, going beyond functions, practices. In our case, it involves Poetry, Anthropology, humanism, music and nationalism. The obvious search for acknowledgement resulting from the denial reveals an assertion. That assertion shows a demonstration of humanity objectivized by knowledge and sublimated by the poetic work. In this context, music in French overseas departments in America is an attribute of human existence
