Full textThe broad topic of the presented Ph.D. thesis consists in the contribution to the study of Radar imaging systems at millimeter-wave and more specifically to the antennas and signal processing. These works have been carried out during a partnership between Canon Research Center France and IETR. A first study on focusing antennas, particularly on Fresnel lens antennas, thanks to a technological process to manufacture inhomogeneous materials, has allowed to improve the efficiency and the frequency bandwidth. The antenna has been mounted on a rotary system to image a real outdoor scene. Then, the study has been focused on the realization of a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) configuration notably using a 4 × 1 passive compressive device allowing to reduce, by compression, the number of radiofrequency (RF) chains. The chains are decompressed by post-processing. The device, used at the transmitting part, is associated with a scanner that synthetizes a receiving array of antennas. This configuration allows to generate a large virtual array, to improve the azimutal resolution of the system while maintaining acceptable the number of RF chains. This configuration has been used to image a scene in an anechoid chamber to validate the concept. To further improve the spatial resolution of the system for a given number of RF chains, the study of high resolution algorithms, or spectral estimation methods, are used to image scenes in near field and wide-band configurations. The combination of MIMO configurations, the passive compressive device and the spectral estimation methods have allowed to drastically improve the spatial resolution of the radar imaging system while limiting the number of RF chains
Francisco, sousa alves Luciano. "Series-connected SiC-MOSFETs : A Novel Multi-Step Packaging Concept and New Gate Drive Power Supply Configurations." Thesis, Université Grenoble Alpes, 2020. http://www.theses.fr/2020GRALT050.
Full textThis work investigates new gate drive power supply configurations and a novel multi-steppackaging concept in order to improve the performance of series-connected SiC-MOSFETs. The new gate drive configurations are proposed in order to reduce noise currents that circulate in the control part of the electrical system. Furthermore, a new gate drive power supply is proposed to increase the dv/dt of the switching cell. These improvements, i.e., noise current reduction and dv/dt boosting, are achieved by modifying the impedance of the gate drive circuitry. The novel multi-step packaging concept is proposed in order to improve the voltage sharing performance. The proposed package geometry considers optimal dielectric isolation for each device leading to a multi-step geometry. It has a significant impact on the parasitic capacitances introduced by the packaging structure that are responsible for voltageunbalances. The new gate driver configurations and the proposed multi-step packaging concepts are introduced and analysed thanks to equivalent models and time domain simulations. Then, experimental set-ups are performed to confirm that the proposed concepts are better than traditional ones in terms of voltage balancing, switching speed and conducted EMI reduction

Full textIn this thesis, we are interested on the performances optimization of multimedia transmissions systems with an original contribution combining RF circuits' imperfections presented by the power amplifier (PA) nonlinearities and the transmission channel distortions. The studied system uses the OFDM technique which is the most widespread multicarrier modulation in recent radio communications systems. However, its major drawback is the high PAPR value, which degrades the transmission quality due to the PA nonlinearities. To reduce the PAPR, we first propose to improve the TR method in terms of convergence speed and PAPR reduction, by studying several optimization algorithms. We show that the conjugate gradient algorithm provides the best performance while respecting the frequency specifica-tions of the IEEE 802.11a standard. Thereafter, TR method has been evaluated experimentally in the presence of a commercial PA (SZP-2026Z) and using a measurement bench. It is shown that the TR method improves the quality of service (QoS), with 18% reduction in PA power consumption. The experimental study has resulted to choosing a realistic PA model consider-ing memory effects. This PA model has been integrated into a SISO simulation chain includ-ing also a realistic channel model. This chain is used to evaluate the TR method performances under realistic transmission conditions. Finally, we propose to apply the TR method in a closed-loop MIMO-OFDM chain dedicated to the transmission of scalable multimedia con-tent in a realistic context with the IEEE 802.1n standard. This study presents a new contribu-tion of the TR method evaluation to improve the visual quality of the JPWL transmitted imag-es, considering in the same time the multimedia content, the PA nonlinearity and the channel transmission distortions

Full textThe simulation has become an indispensable phase for conception of parallel processing systems, and enables to avoid construction of expensive prototypes. In this paper, a parallel process-oriented simulator written in OCCAM language has been developed. Our objective is to conceive a simulator adapted to a network of transputers for prototyping parallel processing systems by connecting directly the serial transputer channels. As a simulation example, a parallel processor system (coprocessor) based on hierarchical structure : master-slave has been realized at the processor-memory-switch level. The performance analysis is obtained via two queuing models : the former as independent M/M/1 systems and the latter as a M/M/s system. The experimental performance is measured respectively based on the independent tasks and the sequential tasks. The comparison of analytic and experimental results enables us to constate the advantage and limit of the coprocessor and to encourage us to its implementation
Costa, Maria Clélia Lustosa. "Le discours hygiéniste et la mise en ordre de l'espace urbain de Fortaleza, au Brésil." Thesis, Paris 3, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012PA030044/document.
Full textFrom the hygienic and medical point of view, this thesis analyses the transformation of the urban space that took place in the city of Fortaleza - Capital of Ceará State (Brazil) - since mid XIX Century. The occurred urban transformation is comprised in an international context of the hegemony of the medical discourse that preached city's hygiene and sanitation. These ideas played a fundamental role in the process of formation and organisation of the urban space; in order to understand and explain the constellation of ideas and practices, it was necessary to study the role of the doctor in the design of a new way of thinking the city from the hygiene and health perspective, in addition to its application and adaptation to the European hygienic and urbanisation patterns - notably the French ones -, listing the State reactive and preventive actions during droughts and epidemics; the preventive policies against illness and campaign against epidemics. Geography contributed to the understanding of the role of ideas and of the impact of changes in the mentality for the creation of new territorial layouts and geographical landscapes. The dissemination of medical theories amongst the population and public authorities had significant impact in the organisation of Brazilian cities

Full textThis thesis work addresses the spatialization suggested by the French prepositions "à", "en", "dans", "chez" and "sur", vis-à-vis the scenes evoked by Spanish prepositions "a", "en", and "sobre". The linguistic study incorporates a device based on the cinematic image as an analogon of mental representations. Additionally, a cross-linguistic analysis is carried out from a holistic wiewpoint. In this framework, prepositions are approached as dynamic, unstable elements interacting with the other linguistic units in an utterance. Analyzing a bilingual corpus comprising over 2,000 examples and contrasting prepositional pairs allow us to provide a definition for each preposition, which reveals perceptual differences between both systems, particularly regarding the concepts of localization and configuration

Full textThe aim of this work is to study from a signal processing point of view the use of MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) communication systems for algorithms dedicated to wireless sensor networks. We investigate energy-constrained wireless sensor networks and we focus on cluster topology of the network. This topology permits for the use of MIMO communication system model. First, we review different aspects that characterize the wireless sensor network. Then, we introduce the existing strategies for energy conservation in the network. The basic concepts of MIMO systems are presented in the second chapter and numerical results are provided for evaluating the performances of MIMO techniques. Of particular interest, polarization diversity over rich scattering environment is studied. Thereafter, beamforming approach is proposed for the development of an original localization algorithm in wireless sensor network. The novel algorithm is described and performances are evaluated by simulation. We determine the optimal system configuration between a pair of clusters that permits for the highest capacity to energy ratio in the fourth chapter. The final chapter is devoted to sensor nodes selection in wireless sensor network. The aim of using such technique is to make energy conservation in the network

A simplified multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) channel measurement is proposed using multiple-input and single-output (MISO) antenna configuration associated with dynamic measurement, instead of “Kronecker” matrix calculating in MIMO channel model, for the Indoor propagation environments. Channel statistics in terms of the time-delay spread and fading envelope are analyzed based on extensive measurement campaigns over specific measurement routes with line-of-sight (LOS) and non-LOS for angular spreads of ±9.9° and ±1.8°, respectively. The measurement environment is assumed in a time-stationary Elliptical Scattering propagation. The maximum-to-minimum eigenvalue ratio (MMEVR) and mean delay spread are presented to compare with true MIMO channel characteristics with respect to different antenna spacing. These analysis results meet most scenarios of the MIMO channel properties.

Wireless communication systems support not only voice but also multimedia in the future. In the high data rate transmission system, the frequency selective fading due to multi-path propagation is often appeared to cause the inter-symbol interference (ISI) and increase the bit error rate (BER). The MC-CDMA system, which is developed by the combination of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and CDMA, has been widely studied for high-speed wireless communications in that it provides bandwidth efficiency and interference suppression capability. In this thesis the QO-STBC MC-CDMA systems with three or four transmit antennas are investigated. Jafarkhani has proposed a typical 4×4 QO-STBC scheme with four transmit antennas. Practically, some active users might install three antennas only at the transmitter due to the limitation of device size. We utilize the STBC scheme and propose a novel subspace channel estimation. The weight analysis is obtained such that half of computational cost is reduced. Furthermore, the forward-backward averaging technique (FBAT) is applied to alleviate the performance degradation due to finite samples.

Full textThe shoulder is an articulated complex composed of the thorax, clavicle, scapula and humerus. While the relative orientation and position of the segments makes an in-depth study of the shoulder difficult, understanding the interaction between the segments remains clinically important. Thus, a new model of the upper limb is proposed. Joint kinematics of 15 subjects were collected and reconstructed using the model, and were found to be less variable and easier to interpret when compared to the reference model. Meanwhile, simplifications involving the use of 2D analysis to calculate range of motion in 3D are criticized. Exceptions where these simplifications apply, were however, shown. Thus, such simplifications can be applied to models in certain situations without compromising the models validity.
