Full textThe following qualitative research intends to analyze some representations of the "armed internal conflict" in Peru. These representations were abstracted from two of the first films that came out and dealt with that topic; one film being a production from Lima, the other from Ayacucho. The films were treated as dynamic constructions, which lit up several topics. We focused on the following three: (1) the conflict with the paternal figure and its authority and protective roles, (2) the uncanny experience (the terror experiencing a threat in the encounter with spaces and figures which conventionally would be considered as safe and familiar), and (3) the internal functioning of some groups involved in the conflict. It is our view, that both films imply a representation of the "armed internal conflict" which is based on splitting. However, they open up, at the same time, the possibility for a symbolic reparation. The analysis of the two films was made within the psychoanalytic theoretical framework.

Full textThe present investigation seeks to know the rol of the teacher´s memories on the Internal Armed Conflict (IAC) in their teaching practice, in a public and rural educational institution, of Secondary education, in the district of Pangoa, Junín region. The study was conducted from a qualitative approach, focusing on the educational institution as case study, and taking 8 teachers (6 men and 2 women) as participants. The main criterion was having lived during the IAC, in Junín, one of the most affected regions and that, being a VRAEM zone, is currently declared in emergency due to the presence of drug trafficking. For the most part, individual interviews were conducted, and participant observation and field notes were used as registration forms. In the ethical aspects, the notion of relational ethics was considered, starting from a transversal familiarization and participation throughout the stages, including the socialization of the results. Regarding the results and conclusions, 1) teachers’ memories are positioned as subaltern stories, where violence continues in force in the communities, breaking with the linear and temporal logic imposed by official narratives such as the CVR report; 2) in this context, social and structural violence intervenes in the construction of subjectivities, where the "Otherness" restricts the positive recognition of diversity, reproducing asymmetric power relations inside the school; 3) the memories surrounding the IAC mediate the teaching practice through the "hidden curriculum". Therefore, it is proposed to work with the teachers from their own memories -recognizing the potential of becoming “exemplary memories”- to assume a critical perspective based on the respect of human rights for the construction of a political and citizen subjectivity, which integrates the participation of the different social actors for an approach based on public policies

Full textThe present investigation explores the life project of four women that were victims of sexual rape(s) during the internal armed conflict that took place in Peru. These women belong to an alto-andean community of rural Huancavelica where a military base was located for fourteen years. This investigation is inserted within a qualitative paradigm; through in-depth interviews the narratives about the life project of these women and the impact of sexual rape(s) on their life projects are collected. We fin that the four women have a life project that is crossed and re-signified by the experience of sexual rape(s), were the negative impact is magnified when a forced pregnancy occurred as result. The results show that three of these women married an ex-military officer posted at the base located in their community, giving account of the use of identification with the aggressor as mechanism for coping with the impact, as well as the need to construct a relationship even when the choice of whom the partner is, is very costly. In relation to the cases were a forced pregnancy occurred the following maternal experiences (i.e. other children) were negative and traumatic, even when these were planed and desired.

Full textThe present research was made in the community of Putacca - Ayacucho with a group of teenagers who took part in a project of collective memory promoted by “Paz y Esperanza”. From the theory it is known that it is fundamental to consider the youngest of the community to be carriers of the memory and to contribute to the consolidation of links between diverse generations and the recognition of the membership of the same community. The aim of this research was to identify the meanings, learnings and perspectives of future of the teenagers in relation to his experience in a process of construction of collective memory. The group of discussion was used as instrument, the situation expressed by the group made emerge emotions, conflicts and social procedure linked to the community. In fact, the participant was an actor who reaches to the subjective construction of the community. Later, an analysis of the speech was realized to explain the relevant points in the interactions. For the participants the murals were a significant initiative, this activity was a space for his creativity, but also they were perceived as important actors on having be recognized like capable of realizing this task together with others. The meaning that they give him to the memory, does not limit itself to the time of the violence but it has relation to previous and current experiences; gathering the pain, the frustration, the happy moments, the capacities, etc. They are mentioned problematic as the violence in the families and the excessive consumption of the alcohol. Finally, it thinks that a task to give continuity to the work with the teenagers is in relation to the decision making with regard to his future and his participation in the community. A sharp look to the worries of the young persons can contribute to that they are not perceived as a problem but as opportunity to recreate the life of the community.

Full textThis research aimed to comprehend teachers´ conceptions about citizenship and its pedagogy in high schools and pedagogy institutes in areas of great involvement by the internal armed conflict. Ten teachers of two communities in Ayacucho, Peru were interviewed in-depth on issues related to identity, citizenship, conflict resolution and perceived involvement of CAI in the first three issues raised. Interview transcriptions were qualitatively analyzed and the results were discussed in the form of coincidences, consistencies and inconsistencies. The framework of understanding of citizenship in these teachers is primarily communitarian, so that citizens understood from the participation determined by the performance of the duties to preserve the customs and ensure the welfare of the community. Also, an association has been found between social agents involved in citizenship education and the processes of instruction that each one was responsible for. Parents and family were perceived as the most important socializers associated to a behavior modeling processes role, whereas school and teachers’ roles were related to transmission of information processes. Finally, even though teachers’ conceptions of citizenship stated that it must incorporate (communitarist) values, they do not mention any adequate strategies for the development of a moral identity. Finally, although it is considered that the armed conflict has had serious repercussions on the people and that it is relevant to understand the actual exercise of citizenship, social and legal restrictions prevent the subject from developing properly in class in most cases.

Full textDuring the decades between 1980 and 2000, Peru experienced years of political violence product of the internal armed conflict that took place in the country. Having already spent some years since the completion of the period of violence, there are still questions about how persons directly affected (and the country as a whole) has recovered from the experience. In this context is where the idea appeared to implement the present investigation, which aimed to describe and understand, using psychoanalytic theory, the mental processes involved in the construction of a post-conflict memory. With this purpose and under the qualitative paradigm, the cases of two women who lived near the ravages of violence are explored. From conversations which involved meetings, in-depth interviews and observations, it was to develop the four thematic analysis that focused on the narrative of memories, the place of another with whom you remember, the symbolic and the irrepresentable. Finally, we sought to provide an integrated analysis reading, identifying elements involved in the construction of post-conflict memory.

Full textThis study aims to identify which where the beliefs of teachers, parents and students regarding CAI classroom handling in a private school from Santa Rosa de Sacco (Yauli, Junin). The methodology used was qualitative based on 17 semi-structured interviews. The analysis procedure was based in the categories proposed by Ucelli, Pease, Del Pino, Aguero and Portugal (2013) and tools provided by the substantive theory (Hernández, Fernández-Collado and Baptista, 2010). The results were discussed on the basis of two continuums that explain the collected data. These two continuums were avoidance-facing and proximity-distance. These constructs were used throughout the explanation of the seven categories discussion. Data shows the inexistence of consensus between parents about the avoidance and facing of the problem. A different result is depicted in teachers and students who prefer face the topic. Furthermore, teachers and parents have a tendency to avoidance when thinking about the existence of an instigator, contrary to students who maintain impartial.

Full textThis research follows a qualitative paradigm and explores the perception of the implementation of the Integral Reparations Plan - PIR - in four women victims of violence and rape during the internal armed conflict that affected our country. In addition, they explore their inclusion in this public policy, their satisfaction about the benefits they receive, how they assess the care provided by the Reparations Council and what their level of resilience is to face what they suffered and overcome their consequences. Their vision is complemented by the collection of information on workers of the High Level Multisectoral Commission and the Reparations Council. The results show that women do not feel included in this public policy and that the PIR has not been correctly implemented: There is a lack of budget and a process of decentralization and articulation for its execution is pending. On the other hand, repairs that are very limited in terms of their benefits; And the affectation of sexual violence has no reparation of its own. Finally, the four women developed resilience compared to what was experienced, without this meaning that they do not currently experience difficulties or distress at different intensities

Full textThe present research explores the social support that the Asociación de Policías Discapacitados en Combate por la Pacificación Nacional (National Pacification Combat Handicapped Association of Police Force, APOLDICPAN) gives to its members who were participants of the Armed Internal Conflict (CAI). This population is considered vulnerable because they are handicapped, have been re-victimized by their institution and are recognized as victims by the Plan Integral de Reparaciones (PIR). The Peruvian State has excluded this population by not recognizing the economic and social benefits that are theirs by law. Facts that lead to the lack of institutional support. This is a qualitative study, at an exploratory level and of phenomenological design. The main data collection method was in-depth interviews that used an interview guide as tool. It was found that APOLDICPAN is a referent of support for its members as it provides them of a heroic identity differentiated to other military forces for its historic participation in the fight against terrorism. Furthermore, participants mentioned different types of support being the most valorized the informational one, which is related to the processes that must be followed to get their rights recognized. However, the most demanded type of support was the instrumental one. This study confirms the presence of re-victimization to which the participants are exposed, a state of mental health not attended and a lack of recognition of the benefits that by right corresponds them. The members of the association perceive themselves as in the fight against the State that violates them and against the society that do not acknowledge them as defenders and do not recognize the consequences of their participation in the CAI. In sum, APOLDICPAN is an organization with potential resources that could start a process of institutional empowering.

Full textAt the beginning of the eighties, the mountains were the scene of one of the most violent periods in the history of Peru with the outbreak of the Internal Armed Conflict (CAI) (1980-2000). This event caused the destruction of the local agricultural and livestock production system in various high Andean communities that resulted with devastating consequences: abandoned farmlands, populations and ranches looted and taken from their inhabitants. They were years when the livestock and agricultural systems of the country's peasant communities were weakened and destroyed by violence. In the community of Sacsamarca, Ayacucho region, the shepherds were able to cope with this context with the use of new livestock practices that seek to seek and recover the livestock system after the effects of the CAI. These forms of adaptation are evidence of the changes that have occurred in the landscape over time. In this sense, this research proposes to identify and understand the changes in the landscape of Sacsamarca after the CAI and the effects they have produced in the use of the livestock space and in the pastoral activity of the community. To obtain this information, a historical analysis of the landscape was carried out that analyzes and describes the panorama of Sacsamarca, before, during and after the period of violence, the actors and forces that participated in the production of the livestock space. In addition, a perception study of the shepherds was used to understand the mental image they have of the landscape. The resulting vegetation will be a key element to understand the vision of the shepherds about the past and future of Sacsamarca. The results of the research highlight the influence of CAI as an important historical precedent in the landscape of Sacsamarca. This historical fact caused radical changes in the management of resources (pastures) and in the use of livestock space (grazing).

Full textThe present research aims to understand the processes of empowerment of women leaders of Ayacucho through the reconstruction of their leadership experiences in their organizations of forced displaced persons. The methodology used was qualitative, with a phenomenological approach, through which the experiences of women leaders were analyzed. The participants are nine women leaders coming from organizations of displaced people in Ayacucho. The instrument used was the pre-structured interview. The results took into account the four dimensions of empowerment proposed by Stromsquis (2015): cognitive, psychological, political and economic. In each dimension diverse thematic axes were considered to deepenthe analysis of the results. In the cognitive dimension it was determined that the women have primary education, they received leadership training and internships that developed a knowledge that impacted in women's vulnerability as displaced people. This knowledge lead them to a critical reflection, and therefore to their participation in decision-making instances of civil society or governance. In the psychological dimension the participants express their personal growth regarding their self-esteem, and leadership. This change allows them to participate in public spaces, and to develop their selfaffirmation as leaders, thus reducing inequality and subordination. In the political sphere, the leaders claim their rights as forced displaced communities with the aim to get collective reparations. Their development as leaders allows them to be recognized as such within society; they feel able to intervene in any public space of decisions, and some have received reparations for their organizations. Regarding the economic dimension, the women have been trained for work, and today they have economic independence.

Full textThis study explores the ways in which relatives of people who disappeared during the Peruvian internal armed conflict have continued their lives after the violent experience of war. These relatives all belong to the Asociación Nacional de Familiares de Secuestrados, Detenidos y Desaparecidos del Perú (ANFASEP). The study starts with a review of forced disappearance as an anthropological object, and then it moves on to explore the importance of the body in the construction of subjects, identities, and especially grief as a ritual process on death. Framed into a theoretical reflection on the Peruvian internal armed conflict (in particular, its relationship with Ayacucho as a memorialization space), the study introduces death and violence in the Andes as processes that allow particular ways of apprehending reality. In this line, it proposes the new theoretical category no-cuerpo, linked to the uncertainty of disappearance, as opposed to cuerpo, linked to the certainty of death. Doing so allows us to move from the characterization of the armed conflict’s victims introduced in the Final Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (CVR) to a new type of subject called sujeto-víctima. The members of ANFASEP are construed as sujetos-víctima, as their trajectory has been marked by a process of self-recognition that makes it possible for them to construct their citizenship from the margins of the State through political action. Finally, the study reveals that sujetos-víctima endure the impossibility of mourning by deploying techniques to cope with uncertainty and to continue their lives after more than three decades of search.

Full textDuring the Internal Armed Conflict (CAI), the Peruvian Armed Forces (FFAA) played an important role in the control and spread of various types of violence. However, after several decades, various versions persist about what the role of the Armed Forces was, especially by the non-commissioned officers of the Peruvian Navy. In this sense, the objective of this study is to know about the collective memories of the personnel of non-commissioned officers of the MGP, as well as the emotions and attitudes they have in relation to the CAI. All this, with the purpose of analyzing the relationship between the collective memory of the CAI, the attitudes towards forgiveness, reparation and reconciliation, and the reparative emotions that noncommissioned officers who participated in the CAI possess. In the sample studied (N = 102), it was found that the participants remember various characters in a varied way and have a positive or negative assessment of themselves. On the other hand, it was possible to identify correlations between certain restorative emotions with some attitudes towards the culture of peace. Finally, the findings allow us to generate a reflection on how the memories of a violent event such as the Peruvian CAI have been worked on.
