In this paper, I examine how clergy’s value orientations and congregations’ relationships to the superordinate organizations in their institutional environment are reflected in congregations’ organizational cultures. My analysis of nearly 50 qualitative interviews with clergy, members, and former members of four Southern Baptist Convention congregations and one Independent Christian megachurch indicates organizational cultures are (1) reflections of their leaders’ value orientations and the congregation’s engagement with superordinate organizations and (2) an important indicator of how congreg

However, our data suggest that staffing changes are not simply due to tighter budgets, but mirror a societal trend toward part-time work, or the “feminization” of labour norms. The questions of the reception of and role of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Plus (LGBTQ+) persons in the Christian faith and Christian church have increasingly called for churches and denominations to discern a position on membership, leadership, and participation in the sacraments. Individuals, families, congregations, and denominations are impacted by the differences in perspective, policy, and practice of affirming, including, or excluding LGBTQ+ persons. ABSTRACT One characteristic of church growth is the increasing number of churches. Churches take a variety of ways to increase the number of their congregations. Some are in a biblical way and some are not. Methods or methods which are not biblical are known as means of baalism. And the church often uses these methods. Therefore, the authors conduct research related to this so that churches use biblical methods in their implementation. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach and an approach that is taken from examples in the Bible relating to church development. From the

The growth of the church is God's will, so this goal is a priority for God's church. The growth of the church cannot be separated from the character Peter who is a disciple who was asked by the Lord Jesus to shepherd His people. Church growth cannot be separated from the attitude of church leaders (pastors), therefore the problem discussed in this study is how to increase church growth through the attitude of the church pastor based on 1 Peter 5: 2-3. By researching and answering the formulation of this problem, it is hoped that the leaders of the congregation and congregation will have knowle

It is widely believed that the planting of new churches is a cause of church growth, regardless of culture or context. However, surprisingly little reliable and relevant data are presented to support this claim. In this article recent membership data of the Bund Freier evangelischer Gemeinden (Association of Free Evangelical Congregations) in Germany is explored to examine the relationship between church planting and church growth. The data show that there is indeed a positive correlation, but since there is also a clear correlation between rapid growth and decline, the evidence should be trea

This article examines the extent of church growth in Britain in recent decades, in response to the articulation of the secularisation thesis with regard to Christian congregations in recent British history. It shows that alongside the widely recognised phenomenon of church decline, there has been significant church growth—notably in London, amongst black, Asian, and minority ethnic communities and amongst new churches. This runs counter to many discussions of religion in recent British history, which assume overwhelming and ongoing church decline and which assume any church growth is periphera

Observing the Christian year in the life and worship of the church facilitates spiritual growth and faith formation in the lives of the participants. This article initially speaks briefly about the Christian year and how it provides a framework for recounting the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus—the Gospel story. The Christian year provides an opportunity for presenting the core doctrinal beliefs of the Christian faith. Secondly, drawing from the scriptures, spiritual growth is defined as becoming like Christ—“to be conformed to the image of his Son” (Rom 8:29). Finally, the author prese
