PREFACE The global landscape on industrial activities has changed with the COVID-19 pandemic. The drastic measures and activities (e.g., virtualization of gatherings, increased production of plastics and materials for face masks) that individuals must take leads to the realization of the persistence of the practices at the post-pandemic era. The idea of sustainable development now considers these drastic events in the future, in which chemical engineers can generate innovations that when the need arises, preparations will focus on large-scale development. This advocacy of some groups and policies to the exclusion of others has been facilitated in the United States’ political culture by the country music industry. Indeed, President Richard Nixon said of country music that it “radiates a love of this nation—a patriotism,” adding that it “makes America a better country” (Bufwack and Oermann 328). Abstract:
The compulsion to work has clearly become pathological in modern industrial societies. Millions of people are working long hours, devoting their lives to making or doing things that will not enrich their lives or make them happier but will add to the garbage and pollution that the earth is finding difficult to accommodate. They are so busy doing this that they have little time to spend with their family and friends, to develop other aspects of themselves, to participate in their communities as full citizens. Unless the work/consume treadmill is overcome there is little hope for the planet. The
