Full textThis research contributes to an understanding of joint audit's legitimacy. It aims to highlight the institutional pressures affecting the sustainability of the model and opens a black box which is the interaction between joint auditors. It also shows the impact of these pressures on the relationships within the model and vice versa. We have adopted a theoretical framework using the concepts ofstructuration theory and new institutionalism. Our approach is comprehensive and based on a multiple-Case study with the co-Commissariat aux comptes in France and the to-Revisor systemet in Denmark. We used interviews and historical data as means of data collection. The roles of legislators and regulators seem to trigger different evolutions of the joint audit for both cases. Despite these points of divergence, we were able to establish a common matter relating to the importance of cultural standards for the persistence of joint auditing and its adoption in other contexts. The ideology of fair contract has greatly influenced the perception of the model by the Danish and French auditors. This vision promoting efficient modes of governance has led to the decline of the logic of honor in France and that of Grundtvigianism in Denmark

Full textSince the liberalisation in 2013, the amount of intercity bus users is continuously increasing. The concept of offering a large variety in routes as well as attractive pricing, helps intercity buses to a great popularity. Moreover, this option of traveling impresses with its eco-friendliness. Due to the location of the bus stops, the traveling time in intercity busses cannot keep up with the one of comparable competitors. Within this thesis, a selective conjoint analysis is conducted. The goal is to gain an insight on the option of potential customers towards bus stops within the city compared to their view of bus stops close to the traveling route. The decision is primarily based on travel costs and travel time whereas socioeconomic factors are only considered briefly. Concluding, bus stops close to the traveling route are an alternative choice for as long as they are located within reach of local public transportation

Full textThe work presented in this PhD thesis takes place in the general context of face matching. More precisely, our goal is to design and develop novel algorithms to learn compact, discriminative, domain invariant or de-identifying representations of faces. Searching and indexing faces open the door to many interesting applications. However, this is made day after day more challenging due to the rapid growth of the volume of faces to analyse. Representing faces by compact and discriminative features is consequently es- sential to deal with such very large datasets. Moreover, this volume is increasing without any apparent limits; this is why it is also relevant to propose solutions to organise faces in meaningful ways, in order to reduce the search space and improve efficiency of the retrieval. Although the volume of faces available on the internet is increasing, it is still difficult to find annotated examples to train models for each possible use cases e. G. For different races, sexes, etc. For every specifie task. Learning a model with training examples from a group of people can fail to predict well in another group due to the uneven rate of changes of biometrie dimensions e. G. , ageing, among them. Similarly, a modellean1ed from a type of feature can fail to make good predictions when tested with another type of feature. It would be ideal to have models producing face representations that would be invariant to these discrepancies. Learning common representations ultimately helps to reduce the domain specifie parameters and, more important!y, allows to use training examples from domains weil represented to other demains. Hence, there is a need for designing algorithms to map the features from different domains to a common subspace -bringing faces bearing same properties closer. On the other band, as automatic face matching tools are getting smarter and smarter, there is an increasing threat on privacy. The popularity in photo sharing on the social networks has exacerbated this risk. In such a context, altering the representations of faces so that the faces cannot be identified by automatic face matchers -while the faces look as similar as before -has become an interesting perspective toward privacy protection. It allows users to limit the risk of sharing their photos in social networks. In ali these scenarios, we explored how the use of Metric Leaming methods as weil as those of Deep Learning can help us to leam compact and discriminative representations of faces. We build on these tools, proposing compact, discriminative, domain invariant representations and de-identifying representations of faces crawled from Flicker. Corn to LFW and generated a novel and more challenging dataset to evaluate our algorithms in large-scale. We applied the proposed methods on a wide range of facial analysing applications. These applications include: large-scale face retrieval, age estimation, attribute predictions and identity de-identification. We have evaluated our algorithms on standard and challenging public datasets such as: LFW, CelebA, MORPH II etc. Moreover, we appended lM faces crawled from Flicker. Corn to LFW and generated a novel and more challenging dataset to evaluate our algorithms in large-scale. Our experiments show that the proposed methods are more accurate and more efficient than compared competitive baselines and existing state-of-art methods, and attain new state-of-art performance

Full textIn the scientific world, signal analysis and especially image analysis is a very active area, due to the variety of existing applications, with issues such as file compression, video surveillance or medical image analysis. This last area is particularly active. The number of existing devices and the number of pictures taken, cause the production of a large amount of information to be processed by practitioners. They can now be assisted by computers. In this thesis, the problem addressed is the development of a computer diagnostic aided system based on conjoint analysis, and therefore on the comparison of medical images. This approach allows to look for evolutions or aberrant tissues in a given set, rather than attempting to characterize, with a strong a priori, the type of fabric sought. This problem allows to apprehend an aspect of the analysis of medical file performed by experts which is the study of a case through the comparison of evolutions. This task is not easy to automate. The human eye performs quasi-automatically treatments that we need to replicate. Before comparing some region on the two images, we need to determine where this area is located on both pictures. Any automated comparison of signals requires a registration phase, an alignment of components present on the pictures, so that they occupy the same space on the two images. Although the characteristics of the processed images allow the development of a smart registration, the projection of a 3D reality onto a 2D image causes differences due to the orientation of the tissues observed, and will not allow to analyze a pair of shots with a simple difference between images. Different structuring of the pictures and different deformation fields are developed here to efficiently address the registration problem. After having minimized the differences on the pictures, the analysis of tissues evolution is not performed at pixels level, but the tissues themselves, as will an expert. To process the images in this logic, they will be reinterpreted, not as pixels of different brightness, but as patterns representative of the entire image, enabling a new decomposition of the pictures. The advantage of such a representation is that it allows to highlight another aspect of the signal, and analyze under a new perspective the information necessary to the diagnosis aid. This thesis has been carried out in the LIPADE laboratory of University Paris Descartes (SIP team, specialized in image analysis) and in collaboration with the Society Fenics (designer of diagnosis aid stations in the analysis of mammograms) under a Cifre convention. The convergence of the research fields of those teams led to the development of this document

Full textTitle: Categorization and evaluation of innovation: a prospect théory approach applied to the case of low alcohol content wine Every year numerous innovations are available on the market but only a small number meet the hoped-for success. Given this fact, one of the explanations offered by marketing research is the difficulty the consumer has to categorize a new product. This work is part of current research on the categorization of innovation and suggests to consider the uncertainty that characterizes this process. Its originality is to propose a link between research on the categorization of innovation and those of decision making under uncertain conditions. Prospect Theory (Kahneman et Tversky, 1979), in particular, and one of its principles, that of loss aversion, this research has provided a theoretical framework adapted to take into account the uncertainty of innovation. Our research question proposes to determine whether the principle of loss aversion can be applied to explain how the modification of certain attributes of a class causes the perception of a break and create a new category of products by the consumer. The empirical part of this work was conducted on wine, a product that is going through a major crisis of consumption. We chose an experimental approach across six studies conducted on innovations in the wine sector. The results were used to highlight the major role played by the nature of the attribute in the categorization and its influence on the perception of breaks in a category. From the managerial point of view, the conclusions of this work relate to the effectiveness of innovation strategies that affect the attributes of a product in their ability to differentiate an innovation from competition. This work also provides suggestions for the positioning and communication set up to facilitate the understanding of a new product and therefore its choice by the consumer

Full textBecause of the nature of the public goods provided and the social services performed, the public sector is more likely to attract workers with a higher prosocial motivation than the private sector. Our thesis develops empirical tests to reveal the presence of this form of motivation among public sector agents. Our first chapter seeks to evaluate the differences in job satisfaction, defined with respect to various characteristics, in order to identify different preferences between employees in the public and private sectors, thus providing information on their respective sources of motivation. We find that public sector employees show greater prosocial motivation than private sector employees, the former being willing to work longer hours and accepting lower wages than the latter. In the two following chapters, we test whether public sector employees put more effort in the workplace, all other things being equal, using two measures of overeffort: the probability of working unpaid overtime and the phenomenon of presenteeism at work. The results of these studies highlight the presence of a pro-social motivation of public sector employees which however does not lead them to provide an effort greater than that provided by private sector employees. We find that the incentive to effort takes different forms according to the specific managerial and organizational characteristics of the work, and is compatible with motivations of different nature. Finally, we show that if such specific motivation did not exist, the provision of effort of public employees would be less frequent

Full textAssessing the effectiveness of cancer treatments in clinical trials raises multiple methodological problems that need to be properly addressed in order to produce a reliable estimate of treatment effects. The purpose of this research project is to propose a new modeling strategy within the joint modeling framework to study simultaneously the evolution of tumor size (biomarker) and the risk of death (terminal event). An excess of zero values characterize the distribution of the tumor size measurements, corresponding to patients responding well to a treatment that observe a complete shrinkage of their tumors. The two-part model has been proposed with the idea to decompose the distribution of the biomarker into a binary outcome (zero values vs. positive values) and a continuous outcome, both outcomes usually being modeled with mixed effects regression models. We developed a two-part joint model for which the binary part captures the effect of covariates on the probability of zero value of the biomarker while the continuous part gives the effect of covariates either on the expected value of the biomarker among positives (conditional form) or the marginal expected value of the biomarker (marginal form), both answering different clinical questions of interest. We established it provides unbiased parameter estimations by simulations and compared this new model with alternative approaches such as ignoring the zero excess by not decomposing the biomarker’s distribution or considering zeros as censored values (i.e., too small to be measured). We show how the two-part approach is more appropriate in presence of true zeros (i.e., not censored). This new model allows to use both the tumor size repeated measurements and the survival times to compare several treatment lines, which could impact the final clinical decisions. We illustrated these developments on the basis of real data from randomized cancer clinical trials. Finally, we extended the frequentist estimation that we implemented into the R package frailtypack to a Bayesian framework within the R package INLA in order to reduce the computation time and solve convergence issues when dealing with more complex correlation structures. The software and code for both the frequentist and Bayesian estimations of this new model are freely available to ensure that these tools are easily disseminated to epidemiologists, statisticians or biomedical researchers. Semicontinuous distributions are common in biomedical research, e.g., when quantifying exposure or measuring symptoms of a disease, in genomics (microbiome, epigenetics), so that the proposed work could lead to a wide spectrum of applications beyond cancer research

Full textThe objective of this research is to examine the willingness-to-pay (WTP) granted to the fair tradelabel. The study consists of the two parts: the focus of the first one is to identify the maximum pricethe consumer is willing to accept to buy products labeled "fair" and to define the importance of thelabel "fair" compared with other attributes such as the intrinsic quality and price. The second part aimsto determine the influence of the four categories of variables (socio -demographic, personality, personal values and attitudinal) on the consumer willingness-to-pay for fair trade products. To answer these questions, we have conducted two surveys on chocolate products using two differentmethodological approaches: economic experimental study and conjoint analysis. The results show thatthe label "fair" significantly increases the average WTP of consumers. Similarly, the intrinsic qualityof the chocolate affects the equitable consent of the WTP. The importance of "fair" label of theaverage consumer' preference is comparable to the intrinsic quality of the product and is lowercompared to the price. Finally, the determinants of the equitable consent of WTP vary depending onthe intrinsic quality of the product. It relates, in the case of a good quality chocolate, to the sociodemographicvariables (gender, educational level and WTP), variables related to personality(materialism, generosity, internal control beliefs, liberalism and moral evaluation of money), personalvalues (individual and social) and attitudinal variables (knowledge of fair trade products, attitudestoward products labeled "fair trade", confidence in the fair labeling and involvement with respect toproducts labeled "fair")

Full textThe increasing number of clinical trials for cancer treatments has led to standardization of guidelines for evaluation of tumor response. In phase III clinical trials of advanced cancer, progression-free survival is often applied as a surrogate endpoint for overall survival (OS). For solid tumors, progression is usually defined using the RECIST criteria that use information on the change of size of target lesions and progressions of non-target disease. The criteria remain the standard tool for treatment evaluation despite their limitations. In particular, repeatedly measured tumor size is used as a pointwise categorized variable to identify a patient’s status. Statistical approach of joint modeling allows for more accurate analysis of the tumor response markers and survival. Moreover, joint models are useful for individual dynamic predictions of death using patient’s history. In this work, we proposed to apply a trivariate joint model for a longitudinal outcome (tumor size), recurrent events (progressions of non-target disease) and survival. Using adapted measures of predictive accuracy we compared the proposed joint model with a model that considered tumor progressions defined within standard criteria and OS. For a randomized clinical trial for colorectal cancer patients, we found better predictive accuracy of the proposed joint model. In the second part, we developed freely available software for application of the proposed joint modeling and dynamic predictions approach. Finally, we extended the model to a more sophisticated analysis of tumor size evolution using a mechanistic model. An ordinary differential equation was implemented to describe the trajectory of the biomarker regarding the biological characteristics of tumor size under a treatment. This new approach contributes to clinical research on treatment evaluation in clinical trials by better understanding of the relationship between the markers of tumor response with OS

Full textResearch on cancer treatment has been evolving for last years in one main direction: personalised medicine. Thetreatment choice must be done according to the patients’ and tumours’ characteristics. This goal requires somebiostatistical developments, in order to assess prognostic models and eventually propose the best one. In a firstpart, we consider the problem of assessing a prognostic score when multicentre data are used. We extended twoconcordance measures to clustered data in the context of shared frailty model. Both the between-cluster andthe within-cluster levels are studied, and the impact of the cluster number and size on the performance of themeasures is investigated. In a second part, we propose to improve the prediction of the risk of death accountingfor the previous observed relapses. For that, we develop predictions from a joint model for a recurrent event anda terminal event. The proposed individual prediction is dynamic, both the time and the horizon of predictioncan evolve, so that the prediction can be updated at each new event time. The prediction is developed ona French hospital series, and externally validated on population-based data from English and Dutch cancerregistries. Its performances are compared to those of a landmarking approach. In a third part, we explore theuse of the proposed prediction to reduce the clinical trial duration. The non-observed death times of the lastincluded patients are imputed using the information of the patients with longer follow-up. We compared threemethods to impute the data: a survival mean time, a time sampled from the parametric distribution and atime sampled from a non-parametric distribution of the survival times. The comparison is made in terms ofparameters estimation (coefficient and standard-error), type-I error and power

Full textPrediction of graft outcome would be useful to optimize patient care. Follow-up of kidneytransplant patients include repeated measurements of longitudinal markers, such as serum creatinine and immunosuppressive drug exposure. Recently proposed joint models areappropriate to analyze relationship between longitudinal processes and time-to-event data. In the first part of present work, we used the approach of joint latent class mixed models tostudy the impact of time-profiles of serum creatinine collected within the first 18 months after kidney transplantation on long-term graft survival. The studied cohort was parted into three homogenous classes with a specific time-evolution of serum creatinine and a specific risk of graft failure. The individual predicted probabilities of graft failure up to 10 years posttransplantation, calculated from this joint model were satisfying in terms of sensitivity, specificity and overall accuracy, for patients who had not developed de novo donor specificanti-HLA antibodies. The clinical usefulness of developed predictive tooI needs to beevaluated with a dynamic approach. In the second part, non-linear mixed effects models witha mixture of distribution for random effects were used to investigate (i) the associationbetween variability over time of tacrolimus exposure and self-reported drug adherence and(ii) the impact of this variability on the acute rejection risk. This model found a significantimpact of tacrolimus time-exposure variability on acute rejection onset beyond 3 months posttransplantation. On the contrary, no association between adherence and (i) variability oftacrolimus time-exposure and (ii) acute rejection was observed in our study which included moderate non-adherent patients only. This result questions the impact of moderate nonadherence on graft outcome

Full textThe healthcare systems are paying a great interest to the patients’ perspective for the organization of health care provision. Healthcare system which is accountable and responsive of patients’ needs and preferences is a major issue for the quality and efficiency of care. In this thesis, we analyze the views of patients for the supply of GP care in using different complementary methods about patients’ experience, satisfaction, importance or preferences. These methods are applied to a sample of patients in GP and to a sample of chronically ill patients in order to identify current and future major issues for the reorganization of GP care from the patients’ perspective. The results show the main role of the doctor-patient relationship and especially of the information exchange between doctor and patient and between patient and doctor. However the quality of the doctor-patient relationship is not enough. The technical quality of care (i.e. thoroughness) and the coordination are of high importance for patients. This work highlights that it is necessary to take into account the patients’ experiences in the analysis of their perspective (e.g. preferences) to fully and appropriately understand the results, especially in terms of willingness to change. The systematic and regular screening of patient preferences in daily GP practice can improve the doctor-patient communication and the content of the provision of care from the perspective of patients

Full textThis thesis based on previous publications retraces clinical interventions and brings together written materials (15 articles, monographs and a book) spanning a period of 20 years on a form of intrafamilial abuse exploiting the medical field: the Munchausen Syndrome by proxy.Since our first encounter with a case of MSbP in 1996, we have learned to think about early childhood trauma using different psychopathological models and distinct clinical approaches (psychodynamic, EMDR, Lifespan Integration) in search of a fertile dialectisation and, over time, have committed to a trans- and inter-disciplinary perspective based on psychodynamic, cognitive and neurophysiological hypotheses to understand traumatic phenomena. From there interest in studying the line of thought involving epistemological fields assumed at first glance to be opposites reflects an evolution of clinical practice in describing how patients – authors or victims of MSbP have benefited from this dynamic. Composed of three parts, the first part of this thesis is devoted to a general presentation of the psychopathology of trauma and early distress taking into consideration the conceptual developments treated throughout our writings. The second part, centered on MSbP focuses on its semiology and etiology, medical and psychopathological terminology as well as the multidimensional interventions necessary for its treatment. The third part is dedicated to different psychotherapeutic approaches that we have used in treating patients, adults or children involved with MSbP. This last part gives rise to an understanding of how the concepts of splitting and dissociation can be revisited and integrated into a neuropsychological developmental perspective. Characterized by an epistemological framework based on a theoretic and therapeutic pluralism, this experience is shared with the desire of encouraging a psychopathological approach including complementarity, intersubjectivity and phenomenology
