AbstractA modern state-of-the-art “quantum measurement” [The term “quantum measurement” as used here implies that parameters of atomic particles are measured that emerge from a single scattering process of quantum particles.] of momentum and position of a single electron at a given time [“at a given time” means directly after the scattering process. (It should be noticed that the duration of the reaction process is typically extremely short =&gt; attoseconds).] and the precision limits for their experimental determination are discussed from an experimentalists point of view. We show—by giving examples of actually performed experiments—that in a single reaction between quantum particles at a given time only the momenta of the emitted particles but not their positions can be measured with sub-atomic resolution. This fundamental disparity between the conjugate variables of momentum and position is due to the fact that during a single-event measurement only the total momentum but not position is conserved as function of time. We highlight, that (other than prevalently perceived) Heisenberg’s “Uncertainty Relation” UR [1] does not limit the achievable resolution of momentum in a single-event measurement. Thus, Heisenberg’s statement that in a single-event measurement only either the position or the momentum (velocity) of a quantum particle can be measured with high precision contradicts a real experiment. The UR states only a correlation between the mean statistical fluctuations of a large number of repeated single-event measurements of two conjugate variables. A detailed discussion of the real measurement process and its precision with respect to momentum and position is presented.

This chapter looks at the queer possibilities of reading the idea of travel and modern libidinal imaginations at the site of ‘new generation' Malayalam cinema, a recent origin of a genre of films that introduced a new style of filmmaking, format, themes, and young stars in the industry. The spatial mobility associated with the notion of travel and the performative space of love and desire may form the conjuncture for expounding the fluidity of the queer moments within which intersections of power relations. Power relations are played out, and heteronormative conjugal and romantic ties are resisted, subverted, or reproduced. The trope of travel becomes the site that embodies, at varying historical and social contexts, the statist colonising/civilising mission, individuated liberal emancipatory utopias, and non-conforming and subverting queer desires. It is argued that the queer moments explored through a queer approach offer the theoretical possibility of reading romantic relationship and friendship beyond the homo-social and popular heteronormative frameworks.

Chapter 3 focuses on relationships among the married couples. The chapter begins by asking, “How do couples who met and married in a matter of days become husbands and wives?” By telling the stories of four couples who develop and share emotional commitment, love, and affection, the chapter shows how emotional relationships can be forged even with strangers through prevalent “heterosexual scripts.” It also pays attention to how marital intimacy is infused with the issue of remittances, which is an inevitable part of international-married couples. In discussing the couples’ gender relations, the husbands’ stories challenge stereotypes of Korean rural masculinity. This chapter shows that Filipina-Korean couples’ relationships can be troubled and challenging, but conjugal intimacy anchors Filipinas’ sense of belonging.

Abstract:
Songs about sailors were popular during the late Georgian period in Britain. Some were directed towards men in the navy or potential recruits, but they were also part of the musical repertoire of the middle-class drawing room. A common theme is the importance of family life. With large numbers of men needed to serve in the military in this time of war and colonial expansion, it was essential for the home front that their families remained cohesive, and ballads were sometimes written with the express purpose of promoting fidelity and patience on the part of both men and women. This chapter examines the varieties of family and conjugal relations presented in the verbal and musical rhetoric of a selection of these songs.

In this paper, a general type of Eshelby-like stress tensor is defined which is based on the right stretch tensor and is equal to the product of a general class of strain and the corresponding conjugate stress tensor. The Eshelby-like stress tensor depending on the fact that from which side the stress tensor is multiplied by, is categorized into the right-weighted and left-weighted ones. General relations for conjugate strains of Eshelby-like stress tensors are investigated using the method, based on the definition of energy conjugacy and Hill’s principal axis method.
