Abstract:
The chemotaxonomy of the Conocephalum spp. complex, based on GC-MS analysis of the volatile compositions, has helped to reveal cryptic biodiversity and delineate actual distribution patterns of chemotypes. In the Appalachian Mountains, two samples from eastern central part of the range were previously shown to be C. salebrosum. Additionally, it has recently come to light that stress can alter the volatile composition of C. conicum. This study address a previously unsampled region of the southeastern Appalachians, a region that is a biodiversity epicenter, to determine if more chemotypic divers

Abstract:
Inter-relationship among the cryptic species in the genus Conocephalum Hill was studied using rbcL + rps4 sequences as well as morphological features. Samples used in this study originated from 1) the long-cultivated strains from Europe, North America, and Asia used for previous allozymes and molecular studies and 2) newly gathered plants mainly from Japan and Taiwan used for both molecular and morphological study. For the C. conicum/ salebrosum complex, a total of six species were confirmed, including a new species previously recognized as R type or Chemotype III (Toyota 1994, Kim et al. 2001

A study of the bryophyte of Marmore Waterfall Natural Park a very peculiar territory for its geological, biogeographical and bioclimatic traits, was carried out. The reported data were collected in the valley area of ‘Parco Fluviale del Nera’ Regional Park, where the waters are flowing and the humidity of the rocks is oozing. Research led to the identification of 101 taxa of bryophytes (21 liverworts and 80 mosses), among which two liverwort and 10 moss species are new records for the Umbria region, while four are confirmed. The study offers new outcomes on neglected aspects of the flora of ce
