Abstract:
This study examined gender-based teasing as a barrier to Latina girls’ participation in school-based sports and physical activity. Focus groups with 78 Latina teens, ages 12 to 15, indicated that they often felt self-conscious and insecure about participating in school-based sports and physical activity because they did not like being the center of attention, were self-conscious about their appearance, and were afraid to make mistakes. Gender-based teasing from male peers—and sometimes female peers—further heightened Latina girls’ feelings of insecurity and made it even less likely they would try out for a sports team. Still, there was evidence of resistance. Latina girls, particularly student athletes, resisted traditional gender-based expectations by calling out the inequities they saw all around them. These young women along with their nonathlete counterparts provided concrete suggestions on how schools can increase the participation of Latina teens in sports and physical activity.

AbstractOur recent work suggests that (1) the purpose of human conscious thought is participation in social and cultural groups, and (2) logical reasoning depends on conscious thought. These mesh well with the argument theory of reasoning. In broader context, the distinctively human traits are adaptations for culture and inner processes serve interpersonal functions.

Abstract:
Introduction: The ability to communicate is one of the fundamental factors underlying human relationships. Severe brain damage and disorders of consciousness may indispose a person to participate in everyday social and family life. In spite of this fact, however, the issue of holistic approach to communication in the context of severe traumatic brain injury is still not well explained and described. The goal of this article is to introduce a profile of nonverbal behavior of children with disorders of consciousness. Materials and methods: The study included 30 children with minimal conscious state after severe brain trauma, aged between 7 and 16 years old. Research was conducted using the Coma Recovery Scale—Revised and the Bykova–Lukyanov Scale of Communication Activity. Results: Significant differences in communication level between investigated groups were demonstrated, both in Body Function (F = 9.184; p < 0.001) and Activity and Participation (F = 13.100; p < 0.001). Conclusions: It is possible to map and classify communication ability of children with minimal conscious state by using International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) protocol and the Bykova–Lukyanov Scale of Communication Activity, with specific consideration of Activities and Participation factors. This approach reveals differences in communication and disability level between children with minimal conscious state plus (MSC+) and minimal conscious state minus (MSC−).

Abstract:
This study looks at Chinese homeowners’ participation in policymaking. Drawing on evidence from Guangzhou and Beijing, it shows that various organised homeowner activists have moved upstream in the policy process and have begun to push beyond policy implementation into the domain of agenda setting and “rule-making”. These advocates display rights-conscious patterns of behaviour that are closer to that of interest or lobby groups than to the typical repertoire of Chinese contentious citizens. The study suggests that this kind of political participation is on the rise amongst Chinese homeowner activists. This result complements and extends other recent findings that suggest the Chinese policy process is gradually opening up. Such a trend could have significant implications and calls for more research in different domains of state-society relations.

Abstract:
AbstractThe aim of this work is to explore the relationship between products that mechanically transform and individual environmentally conscious behavior (ECB). Our qualitative study led to observations on how each of the three transformation principles, expand/collapse, expose/cover, and fuse/divide, specifically supports ECBs. As expected, expand/collapse enables better portability of products. Increased portability of reusable products (e.g., travel mugs and shopping bags) reduces reliance on their disposable counterparts. A less expected observation is that increased portability also increases the spontaneity by which ECBs could be carried out. While there are fewer ECB supporting products that incorporate the expose/cover principle, we believe that it enables one to include, yet hide potentially unaesthetic, features that support ECB in often-used or worn items. Finally, we found fuse/divide to enable portability beyond what is possible with expand/collapse alone. Fuse/divide may also make possible other product transport and reuse strategies. We conclude that mechanically transformable products support and enable ECBs, especially when existing infrastructure presents obstacles. Such products may increase the rate of participation in ECB, which then justifies improvements to the shortfalls in infrastructure for which they compensate.

Abstract:
Abstinence is a conscious and voluntary waiver of one original political right, the right to vote. Often, the very act of abstinence is understood as a kind of election, as an expression of disagreement with political alternatives, candidates and parties participating in the elections. Abstinence is close to the notion of apolitical, that is the disinterest and indifference of citizens, of individuals and groups to politics and participation in the political life of the community. The paper analyzes the difference between abstinence in elections and apoliticality and attempts to point to the problem of increasing abstinence from voting in general elections in post-Dayton Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Abstract:
The reform of the liturgy is to be “marked by the gong of tradition and the spirit of genuine renewal”. This “motto” of liturgical renewal reminds us of the importance of being aware that both tradition and our contemporary situation need to be experienced together in our celebrations. The purpose of the liturgical renewal by the Second Vatican Council, was not renewal for the sake of renewal itself, but rather so that celebrations produced by such reform are meaningful for the active participation of the people of God. To achieve this ideal, judicious considerations need to be taken regarding tradition and contemporary developments. One important fruit of the analysis of the Second Vatican Council is that active participation should become ever wider and deeper in our liturgical celebrations. Participation that is both active and conscious whether physically, together with the whole rich genius of the culture, or spiritually, is a part of the richness of grace for which we should indeed thank God. The presence of Sacrosanctum concilium invites all social levels and classes to participate actively and consciously in sacrificial celebrations and in the Lord’s Supper. Kata-kata kunci: Sacrosanctum Concilium, pembaruan, liturgi, misale, partisipasi, aktif dan sadar, inkulturasi, Gereja, umat Allah, rubrik, kurban, keselamatan.

Abstract:
Highly purified 125I-labeled rat renal renin (125I-renin) was given intravenously to conscious rats to study the fate of circulating renin. Specific antirat renin antiserum was used to identify the labeled renin molecules. In sham-operated rats, the disappearance of 125I-renin from the plasma showed two exponential components with a half-life of 6.7 +/- 0.4 min for the rapid component and 65.1 +/- 5.7 min for the slow component. The metabolic clearance rate was 11.4 +/- 1.0 ml X min-1 X kg-1. In bilaterally nephrectomized rats, the metabolic clearance rate of 125I-renin was reduced by 55%, but the half-life of the slow component remained unchanged. Seventy percent hepatectomy caused a 54% decrement in the metabolic clearance and prolonged the half-life of the slow component. Five minutes after injection of 125I-renin, approximately 59 and 11% of the administered 125I-renin had accumulated in the liver and the kidneys, respectively, and at later time points the 125I-renin was highly concentrated in these organs. High-performance liquid chromatographic analysis of the liver and kidney extracts demonstrated that 125I-renin was catabolized by these organs. Biliary excretion of 125I-renin was negligible. Urinary excretion of 125I-renin up to 120 min was approximately 2% of the injected dose. We conclude that both the liver and the kidney are responsible for the clearance of circulating renin, with participation of the liver being predominant.

Abstract:
We describe the phenomenon of engagement through co-constructed transmedia experiences with the beneficiaries in the context of adult education. We approach this ground on the assumption that a transmedia with experiential value makes it possible to increase the participation of subjects to consolidate the commitment in training. This hypothesis opens up the prospect of a transmedia type of mediation capable of integrating the objectives of scientific exploitation for the commitment and enhancement of participation and the attention that could be interesting for other corpuses. Based on an analysis framework focused on the beneficiaries of transactions, our survey highlighted different forms of hybrid transmedia engagement with specific characteristics. The complementarity of these transmedia has favoured various commitment regimes observed on an ad hoc basis for a long-term commitment

Health was the most important asset human beings could have for the life. Residents of a healthy city were entitled to be health, yet were also responsible for their own healthcare. While the protection provided by the national insurance system is becoming harder and more expensive, preventive medicine would be critical in keeping the system in good shape. This research presumes that citizens’ self health conscious may have significant impacts on the levels of their participating leisure and sports activities, both of which in turn affect the degree of health related quality of life. Main purpose of the study is to explore the relationships among Self-health Conscious, Leisure Sports Participation, and Health-Related Quality of Life. To reveal the linkages among these important constructs, several hypotheses are estanlsihed based on literature review and the author’s observation. This study uses self-administered questionnaire with 5-point Likert-scale that were developed in previous literature as measurement tool. Purposively dispatched and collected responses in several contexts where respondents perform their leisure and sport activities, including sports clubs, community gatherings, and municipal parks respectively. This study received 255 valid responses, 74 % of entire enquiry for further analyses. Analyses are conducted with a statistical package of SPSS for Window 12.0 Chinese version, includeing descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, cross-tab analysis, and regression. The study then reaches several concluding findings. 1. Degree of Self-health Conscious positively correlates with the extent of Leisure Sports Particpating. 2. Self-health Conscious can significantly predict the level of Health-Related Quality of Life. 3. Leisure Sports Particpating positively coorelates with the level of respondent’s perception on Health-Related Quality of Life. 4. Self-health Conscious can significantly affect reposndents’ perception on Health-Related Quality of Life through active Leisure Sports Participating. Several managerial implications are provided base on research finding.

Since the 90s’, the development of gay and lesbian movement in Taiwan has run through more than a decade, and there are also a accumulation of researches about it. Based on all those researches, this paper is going to answer an original question: Why participating gay and lesbian movement? In other words, what is the relationship between homosexual identity and political mobilization? Take a look on the participation of gay and lesbian movement in Taiwan, we’ll find out that there is high proportion of college youth participants. As a result, this paper will focus on the participation of college youth, and use NTU LAMBDA as an example to find out that, how campus club as a mediating institution, make different levels of changes on participants’ homosexual identity possible. The club provides role moles of identity, shapes collective image of lesbian, and bring in gay and lesbian movement through alliance with social movement organizations. It is through these experiences that participants construct their lesbian identity, collective identity, and movement identity. Club as a meso-level institution, it links the gap between micro-level identity and macro-level political mobilization. Also, it explains why identity can be recruited in social movement, and respond to the core concern of identity politics, that is, the relationship between identity and politic.

This chapter presents a model of how individuals move from being nonparticipants to online participants to protesters on the street and how, by combining forces, opposition groups encourage non-group members to protest. The chapter explores the role of social media in protest participation, using interview data, tables, and models to demonstrate how sources of information affected individual mobilization leading up to the revolutionary protests. The chapter shows how Facebook facilitated the building of a politically conscious civil society leading up to the Egyptian Revolution, contributed to reinforcing grievances and mobilizing opposition to the regime, and lowered the threshold for engaging in political participation. In this chapter, new theoretical concepts, such as “online preference” and “revolutionary bandwagoning online,” are presented.

Abstract:
This chapter explores experiences and reflections of having engaged with citizens towards ensuring greater and responsible participation in the electoral processes before and during elections at different levels. In 2013 and 2014, these efforts took shape of a formal campaign in and around Mysuru in India, but received recognition and appreciation in forums across the country. Making participatory democracy work is in the hands of citizens, and exercising their electoral franchise is the first step towards this. A ‘vote’ in the world's largest democracy is however a complex phenomenon given how it is sought, and how people respond to it. Collectively, people ought to put an end to unhealthy trends in the Indian electorate by voting responsibly, by being politically more conscious, by demanding accountability, by participating, or by resisting.

Abstract:
Agriculture contributes a fifth of the greenhouse gas emissions on earth. To help reduce this large ecological footprint, there is the need for collaborative efforts aimed at increasing farmers' environmental consciousness. This chapter used the ladder of participation as a framework to assess how knowledge co-creation between local farmers in Ghana's Upper West Region and NGO agro-technocrats is associated with farmers' environmental consciousness. Using an exploratory sequential mixed method design, in-depth interviews and focus group discussions were conducted with NGO officers and beneficiary farmers. Probability sampling was then used to select 1,050 beneficiary farmers for interviews and analysed using descriptive statistics and logistic regressions. Results show that the use of robust categories of participation were associated with farmers' increased likelihood of adopting most of the environmentally conscious practices co-created. Conversely, less robust participatory approaches resulted in either a reduced likelihood of adoption or non-adoption among beneficiary farmers.

The notion of satellites deployed in Chapter 5 elucidates the sociopolitical status of the middle class and youth within the Mexican nation-state at mid-century. Both were peripheral to the franchise, their political options curtailed by the corporatist and clientelist institutions. While the new university campuses, such as the representative University City (supervised in part by Mario Pani), appeared as the spaces of conviviality, they were in fact spaces of management and control, designed to prevent disruptions to the programmed flows of the city. In this light, the chapter discusses the 68 Movement’s slogan ganar la calle as the set of conscious, intentional, and insurgent urban tactics, both embodied and discursive, devised to counter the state’s denial of room for political participation—most notably, through the movement’s marches

Abstract:
During Shakespeare's lifetime, England became conscious of holiday custom as it had not been before, in the very period when in many areas the keeping of holidays was on the decline. Shakespeare, coming to London from a rich market town, growing up in the relatively unselfconscious 1570s and 1580s and writing his festive plays in the decade of the 1590s, when most of the major elements in English society enjoyed a moment of reconcilement, was perfectly situated to express both a countryman's participation in holiday and a city man's consciousness of it. This chapter considers two principal forms of festivity, the May games and the Lord of Misrule, noticing particularly how what is done by the group of celebrants involves the composition of experience in ways which literature and drama could take over.

Abstract:
Understanding the secular population requires differentiating between people who are not religious (defined by what they are not) and those who are secular (defined by what they are). Non-religiosity is measured as the absence of the usual markers of religiosity—no religious affiliation, no religious attendance, and so on. Secularism is defined with new measures that reflect whether someone has a secular identity, receives guidance from secular sources, and has a secular worldview. Distinguishing between nonreligious and secular Americans reveals that they have very different levels of civic engagement. The former are civically disengaged, while the latter are often engaged in civic activity. Since both religionists and secularists share a high level of participation in civil society, it suggests the possibility of building bridges between them. But making such social connections will require conscious effort to overcome mutual suspicion.

It also describes the women’s personal empowerment as a result of their participation in the research. Finally, it summarizes the advice and suggested keys to a successful sport marriage that the wives in both studies offered, based on their lived experience. This overview essentially describes how and why the wife of a male professional athlete must adapt to realities if she wants her marriage to survive her husband’s career and retirement.

Abstract:
In a pandemic, children’s participation is even more important than before. This paper presents the first stage of an exploratory study for my PhD research in Pedagogy beginning in January 2021 in Milan. The participants are 19 pupils of class 4B (primary school), their parents and the teachers who joined energies to reproject a square, in order to transform it into a welcoming space for the entire community. In Italy, public speeches did not mention children who could not finally use public spaces for months as they were identified as the “plague spreaders”. The project revisits this perspective by considering children as potential actors of the transformation. Only if adults set the conditions for a change, children, their needs and their imagination could become agents for that change and centre of the community. The project name is Piazziamoci (Let’s place ourselves here) to signify the conscious act of taking a place together. After a theoretical framework of the study within Student Voice, I describe the generative circumstances, the context and the first steps of the project. The children explored the square, interviewed the inhabitants, shared information and dreams with their classmates coming up with proposals to present to City Council. This first phase aimed to set the basis of my investigation on the participants self-awareness as people and members of the community; it also focuses on the perception of the square as a common good. To this purpose, this work introduces concepts as the capacity to aspire (Appadurai, 2004), imagination and creativity (Vygotsky, 1930/2004), interdependence (Butler, 2020), and, therefore, a political and educational interpretation of the project.

Abstract:
In terms of professional and personal maturity, it’s critical for a future specialist to consciously join health and fitness activities, awakening ‘subjectivity’ towards physical activity and physical exercises, since only then will it be possible to maintain health conditions at a level necessary for ensuring the adequate functioning in social and professional areas. The need to generate this competence in the process of learning in higher education served to form the need for the present study, the main objective of which was the following: to characterise the conditions necessary for the formation of the student’s personality, capable of conscious, responsible, competent behaviour in physical education and recreational activities. The main research methods were the theoretical analysis and synthesis of scientific and methodological literature, psychological testing, pedagogical experiments and methods of mathematical statistics. Conditions deemed as prerequisites for awaking ‘subjectivity’ in health and fitness activities are as follows: substitution of a methodologicalfunctional approach by a personally significant one; integrated use of fitness technologies in the process of physical education; the reorientation of students from passive exercise to active participation in the educational process; the organisation of subject-subject interaction between the participants of the educational process. The implementation of these conditions results in the transformation of students’ attitudes in educational and professional activity, the recognition of physical culture as a personally significant prerequisite for successful educational and professional activity.

Abstract:
The combination of Learning Management Systems (LMS) with smartphones is gaining importance in Higher Education studies. Therefore, we have designed a responsive virtual environment, AIM-Mobile Learning Platform, focus on integrating smartphones in class. It permits teachers to send real time questions and learning packets with multimedia resources to students through their smartphones. As the environment instantaneously processes every student response their continuous progress is automated. Moreover, the environment permits to manage teachers, subjects and students by means of a generic interface that can be applied in many educational disciplines. The new version includes more functionalities to promote their consolidation in Education. It integrates an installation and configuration package to provide high flexibility for Institutions as they can intall it in their own servers. Besides, we have complemented the existing quantitative evaluation system with a qualitative functionality based on positives and negatives taking into account the participation of students in class. Finally, the new version allows students to design questions with the aim to build knowledge. These strategies seek to increase the motivation, implication and attention of students in subjects, promoting a constant feedback inside class, which helps students to be more conscious of their self-learning process.

Abstract:
The article presents the results of analyzing the association between the components of psychological safety and the characteristics of the educational environment, including the personal involvement of students in the life of the University and the features of self-regulation. These results are identified using methods of descriptive statistics, correlation and comparative analysis. Generally involved students are convinced that immediate participation in the events taking place at the University gives a chance to find something worthwhile, enjoy their activities. They are confident in themselves, and are not afraid of new things. On the contrary, with a low level of engagement, students feel rejected, and this feeling affects their sense of safety. Components of psychological safety correlate with individual development and adequacy of self-assessment and results of their activities and behavior, with the ability to notice changes in the situation, with the adequacy of representations of significant conditions for achieving goals, with the formation of conscious planning of activities and programming of their actions. A special role is played by flexibility and modeling. Emerging regulatory failures reduce the sense of safety, comfort and satisfaction with the educational environment. The research does not focus on external protection from risks, which are a permanent and unavoidable condition of human existence, but on the search for personal resources, the activation of which contributes to psychological security. The more harmonious the system of self-regulation a person is characterized by, the more likely the person is to perceive the environment as safe and conducive to development.

Abstract:
With the development of the worldwide Internet, the security of private data in the online space has become an increasing concern. On the one hand, users post a lot of information about themselves; on the other hand, they are very concerned about the safety of this information. Thereby a privacy paradox emerges: the difference between attitudes to information privacy and actual user behaviour. This article examines different approaches to the interpretation of this phenomenon. The authors of the article identify the motives for using social media. A study was conducted to define the relation between these motives and the attitude of young people with regards to confidentiality, which directly influences the confidentiality paradox occurrence. The survey method and a statistical method for studying relationships and a correlation analysis were used to solve the problem. The authors found that offline privacy is important among most young people, yet more than half of those asked considered online security to be very important as well. Positive and negative correlations were found between reasons for using social media and users’ privacy behaviour. The results of the study identified a correlation between active and passive users’ security settings and motivations for using social media. The authors conclude that users are aware of the high vulnerability of personal data on the Internet, however, may consciously sacrifice their security for the benefits that influence their motives for using social media: online identity, fear of missing out, convenience, sharing, information consumption and communication.

Abstract:
The formation of the ability to solve non-trivial life problems is one of the tasks of school education in the context of achieving sustainable development goals. In the process of teaching mathematics, one of the most effective ways to find solutions to problems is modelling – a teaching method that not only helps students to consciously assimilate mathematical content, but also forms the basis for selfstudy throughout life. Visual models, which reflect the essential characteristics of mathematical concepts by pictorial means, play a special role in the process of initial teaching of mathematics. Teachers can use active and passive techniques for working with visual models in mathematics lessons, which differ in the degree of children’s participation in building a visual model. The main goal of this article is to identify which techniques teachers prefer working with visual models in practice in mathematics lessons. To achieve this goal, the questionnaire method, the multi-criteria assessment method, and the moderation method were applied. This article presents the results of a study devoted to identifying teachers’ preferred methods of working with visual models when conducting mathematics lessons, identifying their theoretical ideas about the value of each group of techniques, as well as establishing the reasons for the revealed discrepancy between the practical preferences of teachers and their theoretical ideas.

Abstract:
The author developed and taught the second hands-on graduate course in a series of three Environmentally Friendly Manufacturing (EFM) courses offered at the Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering and Technology (MMET) Masters Program at the Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT), Portland Center. Courses in this series include Environmentally Conscious Manufacturing (ECM-1), Lean Manufacturing (LM) emphasizing Green and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and Emission Control in Manufacturing (ECM-II). The first two-thirds of the course curriculum consisted of regular classroom lectures, limited homework, two case studies, discussions, videos, and visits to two companies that were implementing or had implemented LM. In addition, a guest lecturer from Washington State Department of Ecology discussed relevant LM and environmental case studies. The final third of the course curriculum consisted of hands-on industry-based case studies. Students gained real-world experience in the manufacturing facilities of the four companies that elected to participate in the pilot project. The LM course, taught from an engineer’s point of view, emphasized the engineer’s role at the initial product design stage, and or manufacturing process design, including building design. This paper describes the course content of the LM curriculum, the innovative methods developed to teach the course, and the methods used to teach LM to graduate students with different undergraduate educational backgrounds including individuals with no prior industrial experience. It discusses three industry-based case studies, company profiles, and the benefits derived by participating companies and graduate students. Curriculum effectiveness was determined at the end of the course in part through students’ and industry participant’s comments. Future publication will describe the contents and case studies of the third ECM II in the EFM course curricula.
