This study sets forth the condition as it is constituted, at the contemporary times, one of the states of the Catholic Christian life: the consecrated religious life. Such exposure happens both from the side of people who become religious people by taking part of a specific congregation and the side of the religous institutions that receive them, starting from the combination of life projects traced by individuals and religious orders. These religious life projects, the ones that merge into an only community project, take root from the openness of both parts in being mutually reciprocal, making possible the arrengement and rearrengement to the construction of a common project to all the people involved, along the people’s lives ephemerality and the institution continuity. As a time frame for the study, it was established the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) untill this point in time. However, for greater clarity, it was taken a slight return in time until the First Vatican Council (1869-1870) and the the most meaningful ecclesiastic and secular happenings of the period, which were the background where the Second Vatican Council was created as well as the posterior consecrated religious life, with its meaningful changings: endings, abandonments, new orders, reformations, the decrease of the number of religious people, etc.

Abstract:
The revelation of abuse in the Church invites a search for the truth about the management of authority and transparency in female congregations in Mesopotamia. To speak about the abuse of power has become necessary. Canonical norms and the teachings of the Magisterium of the Church invite religious communities to a fair application of the law while respecting the dignity of the human person. Likewise, a change of mentality about women in Arab-Muslim countries, in the Iraqi society in particular, and in the Church as a whole is urgently needed. The results of this research work suggest the need for a reform and renewal of the identity of religious life in Iraq with the view to better manage vocations in the future. Religious life plays an important role in this country which is in need of rebuilding itself humanely, spiritually and fraternally in order to rediscover the values of peace, justice, reconciliation and solidarity. The interest of this subject is not limited to women’s congregations in Iraq alone but is directed to all consecrated persons in the Church

Abstract:
The Church is experiencing profound growth in the area of consecrated life. This seduction by God of those created in his own image and likeness is the aim of this investigation notwithstanding its complexity in terms of popular perception amongst people of all faith and the magisterial teaching of the Church. Therefore, this work presents a comparative study with a holistic approach considering scripture, historical and oral tradition within the context of the universal call to holiness especially that of those called to special vocation or consecrated life. Also, the investigation has its starting point with the Magisterium of the Church as outlined by the Second Vatican Council, with quantitative data gathered across a section of Nigerian and Portuguese people. The research includes Roman Catholics, Protestants, Evangelicals and an atheist. The methodology includes literature reviews, the expository method and the use of questionnaires. Additionally, this study attests to the aesthetic beauty and the relevance of consecrated life in our contemporary society. In a nutshell, consecrated life is against all form of idolatry and discrimination. It is a life that celebrates real human values, such as obedience, chastity, poverty in spirit, meekness, self-emptying, freedom against human trafficking, abuse and promotes the dignity of all God’s children.

"Gerotranscendence, religiosity and life satisfaction: a study with clergy and consecrated religious vs general public." Master's thesis, 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/10773/33402.

Full text
Abstract:
Gerotranscendence, as a theory, explains the psychosocial changes in later life and postulates the transition from a materialistic and rationalistic perspective to a more cosmic and transcendent view of life accompanying the process of aging. Despite some studies showing the association of gerotranscendence with religiosity and satisfaction with life, the extent of available empirical evidence is still limited. This study aims to add to the available knowledge on the association between these constructs by studying a specific subgroup of older adults, namely nuns and priests, by comparison with the general public, i.e., with no consecrated life. Specifically, this study aims to (a) to analyze if there is a difference in gerotranscendence levels between committed Clergy and Consecrated Religious (CCR) and non-Clergy nor Consecrated Religious (non-CCR), (b) to examine if religiousness is significantly related to gerotranscendence, (c) and to verify if satisfaction with life is significantly related to gerotranscendence. A total of 55 participants were recruited using a nonprobability sampling method and were asked to fulfill a questionnaire with sociodemographic information and to complete three scales, one for each construct: gerotranscendence, life satisfaction and religiosity. Differences between groups were calculated as well as correlation levels between the scale’s scores. Results showed that the CCR group presented significantly higher scores in all instruments and that all correlations between scales were significantly positive. Differences between groups evidence the importance of reflection on life, religiosity, attitudes towards death and life satisfaction. These findings support the idea that in order to achieve the gerotranscendence mindset shift one has to align the way of thinking into a more transcendental perspective. There is a complex relationship between all constructs that can be potentially established through cognitive issues (i.e., the way of thinking and beliefs) in which all three constructs can be integrated.

Abstract:
Consecrated life or religious life as it is sometimes called within the Catholic Church is almost as old as Christianity. All baptised persons are consecrated persons by virtue of their baptism, but the consecrated life to which some people feel called, is a special and fruitful deepening of the consecration received in baptism and confirmation.. This dissertation explores Christian spirituality as it is manifested in consecrated life with relation to inculturation and religious life. The scope has been limited to a study of one congregation, the Companions of St Angela as a case study.

Seiler, Martina Gertrud Anneliese. "A vision for Franciscan life : an examination of the Third Order rule." Diss., 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/9919.

Full text
Abstract:
The dissertation is a critical reflection on the relevance of Franciscan spirituality over eight centuries with special focus on the Third Order Regular. This spirituality is rooted in the life and writings of St Francis and St Clare of Assisi and their experience of the kenotic Christ. The Franciscan charism prevails in the world today as a living response to God’s transforming love which is expressed in a ministry of loving service and solidarity with the poor and marginalised – re-enacting Francis’ radical conversion when he embraced the leper. The Third Order Regular, inspired by Vatican II which called for a return to the charism of religious founders, returned to its roots with the revised Rule of 1982 based on the writings of Francis and Clare and grounded in Sacred Scripture. The Rule’s vision corresponds with the 1996 document Vita Consecrata on consecrated life and its mission to be prophetic witnesses to Christ today.

Abstract:
Globalization has turned the world into one ”huge village”. Various nations and cultures have integrated during this process and multiculturalism has resulted. Yet, many people are struggling to accept one another as members of one ”global village”. The difference in culture, race and ethnicity are creating barriers amongst the various nations. These hurdles prevent many communities from living in peace and harmony. Religious community are also facing similar struggles. The Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception (FIC) and other international congregations are called by the Bible and the church to give hope of unity in a diverse cultural context. These congregations are challenged on a continuous basis to search for processes that will assist them to take up their prophetic dimension in witnessing the possibility of living multicultural life in unity.
