In the paper, we extend known results concerning crossing numbers of join products of small graphs of order six with discrete graphs. The crossing number of the join product G ∗ + D n for the graph G ∗ on six vertices consists of one vertex which is adjacent with three non-consecutive vertices of the 5-cycle. The proofs were based on the idea of establishing minimum values of crossings between two different subgraphs that cross the edges of the graph G ∗ exactly once. These minimum symmetrical values are described in the individual symmetric tables.

Gordian complex of knots was defined by Hirasawa and Uchida as the simplicial complex whose vertices are knot isotopy classes in [Formula: see text]. Later Horiuchi and Ohyama defined Gordian complex of virtual knots using [Formula: see text]-move and forbidden moves. In this paper, we discuss Gordian complex of knots by region crossing change and Gordian complex of virtual knots by arc shift move. Arc shift move is a local move in the virtual knot diagram which results in reversing orientation locally between two consecutive crossings. We show the existence of an arbitrarily high-dimensional simplex in both the Gordian complexes, i.e. by region crossing change and by the arc shift move. For any given knot (respectively, virtual knot) diagram we construct an infinite family of knots (respectively, virtual knots) such that any two distinct members of the family have distance one by region crossing change (respectively, arc shift move). We show that the constructed virtual knots have the same affine index polynomial.

Abstract:
Heart rate asymmetry reflects the different contributions of heart rate (HR) decelerations and accelerations to heart rate variability (HRV). We examined the contribution of monotonic runs of HR accelerations and decelerations to the asymmetric properties of the HR microstructure in the 48 h electrocardiograms (ECGs) of healthy adults (n = 101, 47 males, average age of 39 years) and analysed sex differences in the HR microstructure. The HR microstructure was asymmetric for runs of most lengths, except for sequences of two consecutive decelerations (DR2s) or accelerations (AR2s). Women had a higher prevalence of AR2s than men but fewer runs in the range of 4 to 11 consecutive accelerations (AR4–AR11s) and 5 to 11 consecutive decelerations (DR5–DR11s). The longest runs consisted of 47 consecutive accelerations (AR47s) and 27 consecutive decelerations (DR27s). More DR3s than AR3s and more DR4s than AR4s reveal a crossing of HR microstructure asymmetry. In conclusion, more acceleration than deceleration runs demonstrate that the HR microstructure was asymmetric in the 48 h ECGs. This phenomenon was present in both sexes but was more pronounced in men. For shorter runs of 3 and 4 consecutive heartbeats, there was a crossing of HR microstructure asymmetry, with more deceleration than acceleration runs.

Abstract:
The aim of the study was to determine the hybridity of the F1 generation of <em>Vaccinium cf. uliginosum</em> &times; <em>V. vitis-idaea</em> &times; <em>Oxycoccus macrocarpus</em> created through the consecutive crossing of some common berry species of the family Ericaceae (bog whortleberry, cowberry and marsh cranberry) at the tetraploid level. Certain aspects of phenology and morphometric parameters of vegetative organs of the supposed hybrid and parent plants were analysed using traditional methods of comparative analysis. Molecular genetic assay, including random amplification of polymorphic DNA, simple sequence repeat and sequencing, were also used. Comparison of the phenological and morphometric features of the experimental plant and its parents allows suggesting that in the combination of crossing of (<em>V. uliginosum</em> &times; <em>V. vitis-idaea</em>) &times; <em>O. macrocarpus</em> (the cultivar Searles), a three-species hybrid was created. The allelic variants, specific for <em>V. uliginosum</em>, <em>V. vitis-idaea</em> and <em>O. macrocarpus</em>, were detected in the <em>V. cf. uliginosum</em> &times; <em>V. vitis-idaea</em> &times; <em>O. macrocarpus</em> genotype. A next-generation sequencing approach is suggested for estimating the share of the genomes of <em>Vaccinium</em> spp. in the formation of the interspecies hybrid.

Abstract:
The reproductive system determines evolutionary inheritance of populations by establishing patterns of gametes union to originate the next generation. The objective of this study was to investigate the mating system of Mimosa scabrella Benth. (bracatinga), a Brazilian tree species with socioeconomic and ecological importance, in a population of the mountainous region of Santa Catarina state, in two consecutive reproductive events. The analyzes in the 2015 and 2016 reproductive events were lead with isoenzymatic markers and the mating system characterization was performed based on mixed crosses and correlated crosses models, and the means of each parameter were statistically compared. Among the results, the multilocus outcrossing rates (tm(2015): 0.925 and tm(2016): 0.845) showed high magnitude and differed from the unit; the self-fertilization rates were significantly different from zero (s (2015): (0.075 and(2016): 0.155) indicating that the species does not show self-incompatibility. In addition, the positive outcrossing rates among relatives (tm-ts(2015): 0.142 and tm-ts(2016): 0.170) suggest inbreeding crosses in the population. The highest proportions in offspring were half-sibs (2015: 0.736 and 2016: 0.579), suggesting predominance of randomness at crossings. From this it is concluded that M. scabrella has a mixed mating system, with predominance of crossing at population level.

Lane departure warning system based on surrounding view is a human-made decision such as solution to avoid lane departure fatalities with low cost and high reliability. In this paper, the key parameters of time to lane crossing (TLC) and distance to lane crossing (DLC) are all calculated from image processing(the corner detect and the optic flow). In the warning module, two strategies are proposed to improve the reliability of the system. After adjusting the threshold values on abundance frames of consecutive images, the refined threshold of the two strategies are determined. Finally, the proposed strategies are incorporated into our lane departure warning system to be tested in off-line simulation. The results indicate the efficiency and feasibility of our system.

Abstract:
Purpose: To examine with intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) the crossing pathways of the TruePath reentry device during primary antegrade recanalization of infrainguinal chronic total occlusions (CTOs). Methods: Between July 2017 and September 2018, a prospective multicenter study enrolled 143 consecutive patients (mean age 75±9 years; 101 men) with 146 CTOs treated in an antegrade approach using the TruePath reentry device with IVUS assessment of the crossing pathway in successful cases. Outcome measures were complete success (reentry device reached the distal true lumen), assisted success (reentry device use followed by a conventional guidewire to reach the distal true lumen), reentry device crossing route by IVUS assessment, and procedure- and device-related complications. Regression analyses were employed to identify any relevant associations between baseline patient variables and the outcome measures; results are presented as the odds ratio (ORs) and 95% confidence interval (CI). Results: Complete success was achieved in 82 (56.2%) lesions; any success (complete plus assisted) was documented in 117 (80.1%) lesions. Four (3%) perioperative device-related complications were observed. The crossing route was intraplaque for most of the total crossing distance in both complete success cases (95.3%±13.2%) and any success cases (94.8%±14.4%), with relatively short subintimal (3.6%±10.2% and 4.2%±11.2%, respectively) or intramedial (1.2%±5.8% and 1.0%±5.4%, respectively) crossing. CTO length was a significant risk factor for not achieving complete success (OR 1.74, 95% CI 1.13 to 2.68, p=0.012), and a history of failed revascularization was associated with not achieving any success (OR 6.40, 95% CI 1.28 to 28.9, p=0.038). Conclusion: The intraplaque route was the primary pathway taken by the TruePath reentry device as it crossed infrainguinal CTOs. Crossing rates were acceptable, with few device-related complications. However, a longer CTO length and a failed revascularization history negatively affected the success rate.

Background: Branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) is the second-most common retinal vascular disorder. Arteriosclerotic changes at the site of obstruction and hemodynamic turbulence within the vessels are considered risk factors. Overcrossing of the vein by an artery has traditionally been considered to increase the risk of BRVO. Recent studies using optical coherence tomography and optical coherence tomography angiography have suggested a higher prevalence of vein-over-artery crossings in this disease. Nevertheless, uncertainty persists as to why some patients, even those with the same disease duration, have varying degrees of venous dilation and develop sufficient collaterals, while others develop substantial ischemia and its sequelae.&#x0D; Hypothesis: Herein, it is hypothesized that because retinal blood vessels are transparent, tubular, and collapsible conduits coursing over a hollow spherical surface, the changes related to AV crossings over the entire course of a vessel, rather than at any single isolated crossing, could contribute to the risk, natural progression, and outcomes of BRVO. The study analyzed color fundus photographs from two image datasets. The first dataset comprised 100 randomly selected images from the author’s own collection at the Rajendra Prasad Center for Ophthalmic Sciences. The second dataset comprised 100 images from the MESSIDOR database; three images were excluded owing to poor focus. Using 394 observations from 197 retinal photographs, four distinct patterns of AV crossing along the course of blood vessels were recognized: (A and B) wicker basket, (C) straight, (D) widely spaced, and (E) indeterminate. The percentages of tight wicker, loose wicker, straight, widely spaced, and indeterminate patterns in the two image sets were 19% (38/200) and 16.5% (32/194), 22.5% (45/200) and 27.8% (54/194), 16.5% (33/200) and 15.5% (30/194), 22.5% (45/200) and 28.4% (55/194), and 19.5% (39/200) and 11.9% (23/194), respectively. Hence, the wicker basket pattern was the most common AV crossing pattern in both image sets.&#x0D; Conclusions: The wicker basket pattern may provide structural stability and aid in maintaining pressure gradients within the retinal vascular bed. This observation of variable AV relationships at consecutive crossings may improve our understanding of the pathogenesis, natural history, and outcomes of BRVO. Future longitudinal studies including patients at risk of BRVO, or retrospective analyses of patients with BRVO who had ophthalmic examinations and archived fundus images before the vascular event, should verify the relevance of these observed vascular patterns.

Abstract:
Nowadays, current evidence on the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak on ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients is discrepant. The aim of this study was to compare and identify any changes in STEMI patients between the pre-COVID-19 period and during the COVID-19 outbreak. Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study to evaluate consecutive STEMI patients admitted from 1 September 2018 to 30 September 2021. We designated 14 March 2020 as the commencement of the COVID-19 outbreak in Thailand. Results: A total of 513 consecutive STEMI patients were included in this study: 330 (64%) admitted during the pre-COVID-19 outbreak period and 183 (36%) admitted during the COVID-19 outbreak. There was a significant 45% decline in the number of STEMI cases admitted during the COVID-19 outbreak period. During the outbreak, STEMI patients had significantly increased intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) insertion (23% vs. 15%, p-value = 0.004), higher high-sensitivity troponin T level (11,150 vs. 5213, p-value &lt; 0.001), and lower pre- and post-PCI TIMI flow. The time-to-diagnosis (59 vs. 7 min, p-value &lt; 0.001), pain-to-first medical contact (FMC) time (250 vs. 214 min, p-value = 0.020), FMC-to-wire-crossing time (39 vs. 23 min, p-value &lt; 0.001), and pain-to-wire-crossing time (292 vs. 242 min, p-value = 0.005) were increased in STEMI patients during the outbreak compared with pre-outbreak. There was no statistical difference in in-hospital mortality between both periods (p-value = 0.639). Conclusions: During the COVID-19 outbreak, there was a significant decline in the total number of admitted STEMI cases. Unfortunately, the time-to-diagnosis, pain-to-FMC time, FMC-to-wire-crossing time, and pain-to-wire-crossing time were significantly delayed during the COVID-19 outbreak. However, in-hospital mortality showed no significant differences between these two time periods. Highlights: 45% decline in the number of STEMI cases admitted and a significant delay in the treatment timeline during the COVID-19 outbreak. In-hospital mortality showed no significant difference between these two periods. Our study will motivate healthcare professionals to optimize treatments, screenings, and infectious control protocols to reduce the time from the onset of chest pain to wire crossing in STEMI patients during the outbreak.

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to determine the existence of a possible expected bridge frequency (number of bridges per unit of measurement) in an urban context. To achieve this, a method was developed to calculate the real frequency of crossing points already built over water bodies in inner cities. The method was based on collecting different measurable data of different cities using images from Google Earth. Furthermore, this method was applied to evaluate bridges built in several European cities that have a river. The results show that there is a clear link between the frequency of urban bridges and the width of the river, expressed by a power law function which defines bridge frequency as an inverse function of river width. Also, there is no direct link between the size of the city and the number of crossing points built in the city. Additionally, two new urban development projects on rivers were evaluated by using the defined power law function. Thus, it was concluded that future urban development close to rivers could use this function to decide the number of new crossing points. Furthermore, the ideal distance between consecutive urban bridges has been determined.

Abstract This report clarifies the rational manipulation of standard laparoscopic instruments for single-incision laparoscopic right colectomy (SILRC) using the SILS Port. We classified the manipulations required into 4 techniques. Vertical manipulation was required for medial-to-lateral retroperitoneal dissection. Frontal manipulation was needed for extension and establishment of a retroperitoneal plane. External crossing manipulation was used for dissection or ligation of the ileocolic or right colic vessels. Internal crossing manipulation was required for mobilization from the cecum to ascending colon. We performed SILRC for a series of 30 consecutive patients. One additional port was needed in 5 of the patients (16.7%) because of severe adhesion between the ileum and abdominal wall. No intraoperative complications were encountered. Four rational manipulations of the standard laparoscopic instruments are required for SILRC using the SILS Port. However, more experience and comparative trials are needed to determine the exact role of SILRC.

Collagenase clostridium histolyticum is now established as an effective and safe option to treat patients with a single joint affected with Dupuytren’s contracture. We have extended its use to natatory and combined cords. In a prospective consecutive series of 298 cords in 237 patients, the mean total extension loss improved in cords crossing the metacarpophalangeal joint from 46° to 1°, in cords crossing the proximal interphalangeal joint from 56° to 7°, in natatory cords from 130° to 25° and in combined cords from 102° to 16°. The immediate correction of combined cords and natatory cords was less reliable than that obtained in cords crossing the metacarpophalangeal joint or proximal interphalangeal joint. Less severe pre-intervention contractures tended to correct better. We found a high complication rate, which may cause alarm. A total of 21% developed skin splits, with the risk of skin splits generally increasing with more severe pre-injection deformity. Blood blisters were only encountered after manipulation of the more severe contractures. A total of 23 patients (8%) had a spontaneous rupture and 57 patients (19%) had a partial spontaneous rupture. Only 4.9% needed a second injection. We noticed a learning curve, with seven of the first 20 cords (35%) needing a second injection to achieve a satisfactory correction and then only seven (2.5%) in the rest. Level of evidence: IV

Aim: The aim of this observational study was to evaluate the Silverway guidewire [Asahi Intecc Co.] that is designed to guide catheters during cardiac catheterization towards the aortic valve when the standard J-tip guidewire fails because of anatomical anomalies. Materials and Methods: A total of 50 consecutive patients, in which the Silverway guidewire was used, were analyzed: procedural characteristics, such as anatomical challenges, crossing of the vessel and deliverability of the catheters were prospectively collected. This sample size was considered reasonable to describe the success, because this was the first observational study on the performance of the Silverway guidewire. Results: In the majority of procedures, transradial access was used (47 cases; 94%). The Silverway guidewire was able to cross the vessel in 98% and to deliver catheters in 92% of patients. Most anatomical challenges occurred at the radial artery level (39 cases). No clinical important complications occurred after use of the Silverway guidewire. Conclusion:The Silverway guidewire is highly successful in overcoming anatomical obstacles without vascular complications during cardiac catheterization when the J-tip guidewire fails to cross the vascular anatomy.

Our aim was to ascertain if K-wire configuration had any influence on the infection and complication rate for base of 4th and 5th metacarpal fractures. We hypothesised that in individuals whose wires crossed the 4th and 5th carpometacarpal joint (CMCJ), the rate of complications and infection would be higher.Data was retrospectively analysed from a single centre. 106 consecutive patients with a base of 5th (with or without an associated 4th metacarpal fracture) were analysed between October 2016 and May 2021. Patients were split into two groups for comparison; those who did not have K-wires crossing the CMCJ's and those in whose fixation had wires crossing the joints. Confounding factors were accounted for and Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 20 software.Of 106 patients, 60 (56.6%) patients did have K-wires crossing the CMCJ. Wire size ranged from 1.2-2.0 with 65 individuals (65.7%) having size 1.6 wires inserted. The majority of patients, 66 (62.9%) underwent fixation with two wires (range 1-4). The majority of infected cases (88.9%) were in patients who had k-wires crossing the CMCJ, this trended towards clinical significance (p=0.09). Infection was associated with delay to theatre (p=0.002) and longer operative time (p=0.002).In patients with a base of 4th and 5th metacarpal fractures, we have demonstrated an increased risk of post-operative infection with a K-wire configuration that crosses the CMCJ. Biomechanical studies would be of use in determining the exact amount of movement across the CMCJ, with the different K-wire configuration in common use, and this will be part of a follow-up study.

Abstract The aim of the study was to determine the hybridity of the F1 generation of Vaccinium cf. uliginosum × V. vitis-idaea × Oxycoccus macrocarpus created through the consecutive crossing of some common berry species of the family Ericaceae (bog whortleberry, cowberry and marsh cranberry) at the tetraploid level. Certain aspects of phenology and morphometric parameters of vegetative organs of the supposed hybrid and parent plants were analysed using traditional methods of comparative analysis. Molecular genetic assay, including random amplification of polymorphic DNA, simple sequence repeat and sequencing, were also used. Comparison of the phenological and morphometric features of the experimental plant and its parents allows suggesting that in the combination of crossing of (V. uliginosum × V. vitis-idaea) × O. macrocarpus (the cultivar Searles), a three-species hybrid was created. The allelic variants, specific for V. uliginosum, V. vitis-idaea and O. macrocarpus, were detected in the V. cf. uliginosum × V. vitis-idaea × O. macrocarpus genotype. A next-generation sequencing approach is suggested for estimating the share of the genomes of Vaccinium spp. in the formation of the interspecies hybrid.

It is an unbranched, smooth, meandering trail, preserved in negative epirelief on the upper surface of a ripple marked sandstone. Individual trails, preserved within nineteen consecutive troughs without crossing crests anywhere, are restricted to only one of the flanks of the ripples. Trail-bearing flanks are on one and the same side of their respective troughs. This trail, identified as Cochlichnus Hitchcock is assigned a Vendian age.

Hand pollination success rate is low in yam (Dioscorea spp.), due partly to suboptimal weather conditions. Thus, determining the most suitable time for pollination could improve the pollination success in yam breeding programs. We performed continuous hand pollination within flowering windows of D. rotundata and D. alata for two consecutive years to determine the most appropriate month, week, and hours of the day allowing maximum pollination success. In D. alata crossing block, we observed significant differences among crossing hours for pollination success (p = 0.003); morning hours (8–12 a.m.) being more conducive than afternoons (12–5 p.m.). No significant differences existed between crossing hours in D. rotundata, though the mid-day seemed optimal. For both species, the time interval 11–12 a.m. was more appropriate for crossing while 4–5 p.m. was the poorest. However, in vitro pollen germination tests showed that mid-day pollen collection (12 noon–2 p.m.) had better results than both extremes, though there were strong genotypic effects on outcomes. Pollination success rates differed significantly among months for D. alata (p &lt; 0.001) but not for D. rotundata (p &gt; 0.05). Differences in pollination success existed across weeks within flowering windows of both D. alata (p &lt; 0.001) and D. rotundata (p = 0.004). The seed production efficiency (SPE) had a similar trend as the pollination success rate. No clear pattern existed between the pollination time and the seed setting rate (SSR) or seed viability (SV), though their dynamics varied with weeks and months. This study provided an insight on the dynamics of pollination outcomes under the influence of pollination times and allows detecting months, weeks, and hours of the day when hybridization activities should be focused for better results.

Whereas coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) exceeds invasive angiography for predicting the procedural outcome of chronic total occlusion (CTO) percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), CCTA-derived scores have never been validated in the hybrid CTO PCI population. In this single-center, retrospective, observational study, we included 108 consecutive patients with 110 CTO lesions and preprocedural CCTA who underwent hybrid CTO PCI to assess the diagnostic accuracy of CCTA-derived scoring systems. Successful guidewire crossing within 30 min was set as the primary endpoint. The secondary endpoints were final procedural success and the need for using any non-antegrade wiring (AW) strategy within the hybrid algorithm. Time-efficient guidewire crossing and final procedural success were achieved in 53.6% and 89.1% of lesions, respectively, while in 36.4% of the procedures, any non-AW strategy was applied. The median J-CTO score was 1 (interquartile range (IQR): 0, 2), while the CT-RECTOR, KCCT, J-CTOCCTA, and RECHARGECCTA scores were 2 (IQR: 1, 3), 3 (IQR: 2, 5), 1 (IQR: 0, 3), and 2 (IQR: 1, 3), respectively. All scores were significantly higher in the lesions with failed versus successful time-efficient guidewire crossing. Although all of the CCTA-derived scores had numerically higher predictive values than the angiographic J-CTO score, no significant differences were noted between the scores in any of the analyzed study endpoints. High sensitivity of the CT-RECTOR and RECHARGECCTA scores (both 89.8%) for predicting successful guidewire crossing within 30 min, and high sensitivity (90.8%) of the KCCT score for predicting final procedural success, were noted. CCTA-derived scoring systems are accurate, noninvasive tools for the prediction of the procedural outcome of hybrid CTO PCI, and may aid in identifying the need for use of the hybrid algorithm.

IntroductionIn our institute, most cases of carotid artery stenosis are treated by carotid artery stenting (CAS) with an open-cell stent and double-balloon protection, even if plaques are unstable. This study was performed to examine the outcome of CAS with an open-cell stent and double-balloon protection for unstable plaques.MethodsA total of 184 CAS procedures in our institute between October 2010 and February 2018 were assessed. Ultrasonography findings of low-echo plaques, plaque ulceration, or both were defined as unstable plaques. A plaque-to-muscle ratio (PMR) of &gt;1.8 on T1-weighted black blood imaging using spin-echo was also defined as an unstable plaque. Seventy-four unstable plaques on ultrasonography and 86 unstable plaques evaluated by PMR were included. Open-cell stents and double-balloon protection (proximal balloon protection during lesion crossing and distal balloon protection after lesion crossing) were used in all cases.ResultsOn ultrasonography, perioperative asymptomatic thromboembolization was significantly more frequent in the unstable plaque group (39/74, 52.7%) than in the stable plaque group (41/110, 37.3%, p=0.0384). Asymptomatic thromboembolization was also significantly more frequent in the PMR &gt;1.8 group (44/86, 51.2%) than in the PMR &lt;1.8 group (36/98, 36.7%, p=0.0489). However, symptomatic thromboembolization was rare (n=5, 2.7%), and all of these patients had minor stroke. During the 4-year follow-up, the risk of ipsilateral stroke was 0.28% and 0.27% per year in patients with symptomatic and asymptomatic lesions, respectively.ConclusionsThe outcomes of CAS with an open-cell stent and double-balloon protection are acceptable. This method is effective and safe, even if carotid artery stenosis comprises unstable plaques.

Distal aortic compression of the lower esophagus with consecutive dilatation of the proximal esophagus was first described in the literature in 1932. Here, the authors describe the case of a 66 year-old male complaining of gastroesophageal reflux. Due to a positive family history of carcinoma of the esophagus and compression of the dorsal esophagus during an esophageal barium swallow test, further tests were performed. Endoscopy and CT exam revealed a dilated esophagus due to compression of a crossing aorta. Because of mild symptoms and the absence of dysphagia, no further treatment was necessary except for the use of a proton pump inhibitor and recommended follow-ups every one to two years.

Background &amp; Objective: Crocetin, an active ingredient of saffron, has been recognized as a potent antioxidant. Plant extracts or their components may be useful in ameliorating the various diseases, including neurodegenerative disorders. This study investigated the effects of crocetin on oxidative damage induced by chronic restraint stress in the rat brain. For this reason, rats were kept in the restrainers for 1 hour every day, for 21 consecutive days. The animals were injected crocetin (20, 40, 60 mg/kg) or vehicle daily for 21 days. Findings showed that the immobility time significantly increased in the rodents subjected to the chronic stress compared with the normal group. However, the number of crossing beams in the rats submitted to the chronic stress significantly decreased versus the non-stress rats. Treatment with crocetin ameliorated the immobility time and the number of crossing in the chronic restraint stress rats versus the non-treated stress group. Crocetin also reverted the levels of MDA and GSH and also the activities of antioxidant enzymes to the normal levels in the stress groups. Conclusion: The present study suggests that crocetin may be useful for the management of depressantlike effects induced by chronic stress through decreasing oxidative damage in the brain.

The rapid development of driving simulators for the evaluation of automated driving experience is constrained by the simulator sickness-related nausea. The electrogastrogram (EGG)-based approach may be promising for immediate, objective, and quantitative nausea assessment. Given the relatively high EGG sensitivity to noises associated with the relatively low amplitude and frequency spans, we introduce an automated procedure comprising statistical analysis and machine learning techniques for EGG-based nausea detection in relation to the noise contamination during automated driving simulation. We calculate the root mean square of EGG amplitude, median and dominant frequencies, magnitude of Power Spectral Density (PSD) at dominant frequency, crest factor of PSD, and spectral variation distribution along with newly introduced parameters: sample and spectral entropy, autocorrelation zero-crossing, and parameters derived from the Poincaré diagram of consecutive EGG samples. Results showed outstanding robustness of sample entropy with moderate robustness of autocorrelation zero-crossing, dominant frequency, and its median. Machine learning reached an accuracy of 88.2% and revealed sample entropy as one of the most relevant and robust parameters, while linear analysis highlighted spectral entropy, spectral variation distribution, and crest factor of PSD. This study clearly indicates the need for customized feature selection in noisy environments, as well as a complementary approach comprising machine learning and statistical analysis for efficient nausea detection.

Purpose: To present the chronic total occlusion (CTO) crossing approach based on plaque cap morphology (CTOP) classification system and assess its ability to predict successful lesion crossing. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted of imaging and procedure data from 114 consecutive symptomatic patients (mean age 69±11 years; 84 men) with claudication (Rutherford category 3) or critical limb ischemia (Rutherford category 4–6) who underwent endovascular interventions for 142 CTOs. CTO cap morphology was determined from a review of angiography and duplex ultrasonography and classified into 4 types (I, II, III, or IV) based on the concave or convex shape of the proximal and distal caps. Results: Statistically significant differences among groups were found in patients with rest pain, lesion length, and severe calcification. CTOP type II CTOs were most common and type III lesions the least common. Type I CTOs were most likely to be crossed antegrade and had a lower incidence of severe calcification. Type IV lesions were more likely to be crossed retrograde from a tibiopedal approach. CTOP type IV was least likely to be crossed in an antegrade fashion. Access conversion, or need for an alternate access, was commonly seen in types II, III, and IV lesions. Distinctive predictors of access conversion were CTO types II and III, lesion length, and severe calcification. Conclusion: CTOP type I lesions were easiest to cross in antegrade fashion and type IV the most difficult. Lesion length &gt;10 cm, severe calcification, and CTO types II, III, and IV benefited from the addition of retrograde tibiopedal access.

Abstract BACKGROUND S2-alar-iliac (S2AI) screws improve stability across the lumbosacral junction in spinopelvic fixation procedures by crossing the cortical surfaces of the sacroiliac joint (SIJ), thereby increasing the biomechanical strength of the instrumentation. OBJECTIVE To investigate the durability and failure types of S2AI screws after spinopelvic reconstruction surgery. METHODS A single-center, single-surgeon consecutive series of patients who underwent spinopelvic fixation using bilateral S2AI screws with a ≥1-yr follow-up and at least 1 postoperative computed tomographic scan were retrospectively reviewed. Patient characteristics, radiographic parameters, operative data, clinical outcomes, and complications were analyzed. RESULTS In total, 312 S2AI screws in 156 patients were evaluated (mean follow-up, 26.1 mo; range 12-71 mo). There were no significant differences in screw diameter, length, or insertion angle between right-side and left-side screws. Visual analogue scale scores for back pain, ambulatory status, and Oswestry Disability Index scores significantly improved. A total of 10 patients (3.2%) experienced SIJ pain after S2AI screw installation. SIJ pain improved in 8 of them following SIJ block. In total, 7 screws (2.2%) showed partial periscrew lucency. Set screw dislodgement occurred in 7 screws (2.2%). Screw fracture occurred in 6 screws (1.9%): 5 neck fractures and 1 shaft fracture. A total of 5 patients (1.6%) underwent revision surgery for S2AI screw failure. Distal device (L4-pelvis region) breakage occurred in 5 patients. CONCLUSION The radiographic and clinical outcomes of S2AI screw fixation were acceptable. However, S2AI screw fixation has several drawbacks, including screw fracture and dislodgement of the set screw. SIJ irritation symptoms after S2AI screw fixation occurred with considerable frequency.

This contribution presents a new procedure for the automatic identification of the individual overtopping events. The procedure is based on a zero-down-crossing analysis of the water-surface-elevation signals and, based on two threshold values, can be applied to any structure crest level, i.e. to emerged, zero-freeboard, over-washed and submerged conditions. The results of the procedure are characterized by a level of accuracy comparable to the human-supervised analysis of the wave signals. The procedure includes a second algorithm for the coupling of the overtopping events registered at two consecutive gauges. This coupling algorithm offers a series of original applications of practical relevance, a.o. the possibility to estimate the wave celerities, i.e. the velocities of propagation of the single waves, which could be used as an approximation of the flow velocity in shallow water and broken flow conditions.

In this paper a statistical analysis of distributions of inter-helical angles in pairs of consecutive and connected α-helices in spatial structures of proteins is presented. A number of rules for selection of the helical pairs from a set of protein structures obtained from the Protein Data Bank (PDB) were developed. The set of helical pairs has been analyzed for the purpose of classification and finding out the features of protein structural organization. All pairs of connected helices were divided into three subsets according to the criterion of crossing of projections of the helices on parallel planes, which pass through the axes of the helices. It is shown that the distribution of all types of helical pairs, whose projections do not cross each others, covers almost the entire range of inter-helical angles. The distribution have a single maximum which is close to right angle. Most pairs in this set constitute helical pairs consisting of α- and 310-helices, and most pairs with the crossing projections of helices are helical pairs formed by two α-helices. It is also shown that a great amount of the pairs of connected α-helices has acute angle 20° ≤ φ ≤ 60° between the axes of the helices. The distribution of all types of helical pairs depending on the length of the inter-helical connections was also analyzed. It is shown that the structures with short connections occur most often in all the subsets.

Abstract OBJECTIVE We studied the angiographic findings in patients with small epidural hematomas and cranial fractures crossing over the trajectory of the middle meningeal artery and its branches. Additionally, the occurrence of traumatic vascular lesions and their clinical relevance and treatment are discussed. METHODS A consecutive analysis was performed for 24 patients who harbored small epidural hematomas in middle meningeal artery topography associated with cranial fractures. Computed tomographic scans and plain x-ray studies were used to diagnose linear cranial fractures. Patients with large epidural hematomas or associated traumatic lesions were excluded from the study. Selective ipsilateral external carotid angiograms were obtained, and an endovascular procedure was performed if any vascular injury was evidenced. RESULTS In all patients with cranial fractures crossing over the middle meningeal artery and its branches, some kind of vascular lesion was seen. Two types of findings were noted: active extravasation of the contrast medium (71%) and pseudoaneurysms (29%). Early filling of diploic vessels was found in 8.3% of fractures concomitantly with active extravasation. Embolization was performed in all patients. No additional enlargement of the epidural hematoma was observed, and the postoperative period was uneventful. CONCLUSION This study shows that pseudoaneurysms and active extravasation of contrast are common findings in this subset of patients. Although the natural history of these lesions is still poorly understood, additional investigation with ipsilateral external carotid angiography may be recommended, considering the potentially catastrophic consequences of late rupture.

To address this knowledge gap, we monitored bat activity during three consecutive nights around 24 underpasses selected along a gradient of forest cover. We compared bat activity below and above underpasses (i.e., underpass use), at road sections with and without underpasses and at habitats adjacent to roads (i.e., underpass attractiveness). We found a significant positive effect of forest cover on both underpass use and attractiveness for Myotis spp. and Barbastella barbastellus, and significant negative effects of distance to the nearest forest patch for Rhinolophus spp. and hedgerow length for Myotis spp. Our study highlights the key influence of landscape context on road underpass efficiency to maintain landscape connectivity for bats. Abstract:
Predisposing factors for CAM-type femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) include acetabular protrusion and retroversion; however, nothing is known regarding development in dysplastic hips. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between CAM-type FAI and developmental dysplastic hips diagnosed using X-ray and rotational computed tomography. In this retrospective study, 52 symptomatic hips were included, with a mean age of 28.8 ± 7.6 years. The inclusion criteria consisted of consecutive patients who suffered from symptomatic dysplastic or borderline dysplastic hips and underwent a clinical examination, conventional radiographs and rotational computed tomography. Demographics, standard measurements and the rotational alignments were recorded and analyzed between the CAM and nonCAM groups. Among the 52 patients, 19 presented with CAM impingement, whereas, in 33 patients, no signs of CAM impingement were noticed. For demographics, no significant differences between the two groups were identified. On conventional radiography, the acetabular hip index as well as the CE angle for the development of CAM impingement were significantly different compared to the nonCAM group with a CE angle of 21.0° ± 5.4° vs. 23.7° ± 5.8° (p = 0.050) and an acetabular hip index of 25.6 ± 5.7 vs. 21.9 ± 7.3 (p = 0.031), respectively. Furthermore, a crossing over sign was observed to be more common in the nonCAM group, which is contradictory to the current literature. For rotational alignment, no significant differences were observed. In dysplastic hips, the CAM-type FAI correlated to a lower CE angle and a higher acetabular hip index. In contrast to the current literature, no significant correlations to the torsional alignment or to crossing over signs were observed.

Abstract BACKGROUND Targeting accuracy in deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery can be defined as the level of accordance between selected and anatomic real target reflected by characteristic electrophysiological results of microelectrode recording (MER). OBJECTIVE To determine the correspondence between the preoperative predicted target based on modern 3-T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and intraoperative MER results separately on the initial and consecutive second side of surgery. METHODS Retrospective cohort study of 86 trajectories of DBS electrodes implanted into the subthalamic nucleus (STN) of patients with Parkinson's disease. The entrance point of the electrode into the STN and the length of the electrode trajectory crossing the STN were determined by intraoperative MER findings and 3 T T2-weighted magnetic resonance images with 1-mm slice thickness. RESULTS Average difference between MRI- and MER-based trajectory lengths crossing the STN was 0.28 ± 1.02 mm (95% CI: −0.51 to −0.05 mm). There was a statistically significant difference between the MRI- and MER-based entry points on the initial and second side of surgery (P = .04). Forty-three percent of the patients had a difference of more than ±1 mm of the MRI-based-predicted and the MER-based-determined entry points into the STN with values ranging from −3.0 to + 4.5 mm. CONCLUSION STN MRI-based targeting is accurate in the majority of cases on the first and second side of surgery. In 43% of implanted electrodes, we found a relevant deviation of more than 1 mm, supporting the concept of MER as an important tool to guide and optimize targeting and electrode placement.

Our aim was to explore factors associated with early post operative infection for surgically managed base of 4th/5th metacarpal fractures. We hypothesised that K-wires crossing the 4th and 5th carpometacarpal joint (CMCJ) would be associated with an increased risk of post-operative infection.Data from consecutive patients requiring surgical fixation for a base of 4th/5th metacarpal fracture from October 2016 to May 2021 were collected. Patient demographics, time to surgery, length of surgery, operator experience, use of tourniquet, intra-operative antibiotics, number and thickness of K-wire used, as well as whether or not the K-wires crossed CMCJ joints were recorded. Factors associated with post operative infection were assessed using Chi Squared test and univariable logistic regression using R studio.Of 107 patients, 10 (9.3%) suffered post operative infection. Time to surgery (p 0.006) and length of operation (p=0.005) were higher in those experiencing infection. There was a trend towards higher risk of infection seen in those who had K-wires crossed (p=0.06). On univariable analysis, patients who had wires crossed were &gt;7 times more likely to experience infection than those who didn't (OR 7.79 (95% CI, 1.39 - 146.0, p=0.056). Age, smoking, K-wire size, number of K-wires used, intraoperative antibiotics, tourniquet use and operator experience were not associated with infection.In patients with a base of 4th/5th metacarpal fractures requiring surgical fixation, we find an increased risk of post-operative infection associated with K-wires crossing the CMCJ, which has implications for surgical technique. Larger prospective studies would be useful in further delineating these findings.

The success of interspecific hybridization in hardy geranium (Geranium sp.) can be predicted by considering the genetic distance between parental genotypes and using the logistic regression model developed in this study. Hardy geranium is a popular ornamental plant known for its architecture, hardiness, prolonged flowering, and diverse colors in leaves and flowers. In ornamental breeding, the pursuit of novel trait combinations is never-ending. Even in Geranium, certain combinations of valuable traits have not yet been achieved. Interspecific hybridization can increase diversity; however, success remains low due to pre- and postzygotic barriers. Crossing success can be predicted by response criteria such as pollen tube growth (tube_length), seed development (seed_dev), and seed setting (seed_set). Within a collection of 42 Geranium genotypes and during two consecutive breeding seasons (years), we evaluated tube_length, seed_dev, and seed_set for 150, 1155, and 349 crosses, respectively. These crosses varied in four parental differences (variables): chromosome number (Chrom), DNA/chromosome (DNA), style length (Style), and genetic distance expressed as the Jaccard distance (cJaccard = 1 − Jaccard). Using logistic regression models has confirmed that most often, the success rate decreased with increasing parental distance. The most consistent association was seen in seed_dev in combination with cJaccard. The model was used to predict the number of crosses necessary to have 10 successful crossing products by taking into account the uncertainty in the model. These findings provide valuable guidance for future planning of interspecific breeding experiments in Geranium. By incorporating the genetic distance between parental genotypes, breeders can enhance the efficiency and success of hybridization efforts.

ABSTRACT The transport and separation of Cd(II) through bulk liquid membrane technique had been investigated and optimised. Cd(II) was transported through a liquid membrane of chloroform solution containing oxine as mobile carrier and received by EDTA in stripping phase. In compliance with optimum condition, the flux of Cd(II) crossing the membrane was studied, and applied further into a model of the transport system and kinetics mechanism. Concentration of Cd(II) in feed and stripping phases were experimentally determined, and monitored by the atomic absorption spectrophotometer at lmaks 228.8 nm. The model curve of time dependence of Cd(II) reduced concentrations in the feed, membrane and stripping phases show good agreement and characterized as a transport system for Cd(II) interphase involved two consecutive irreversible first order reactions. The rate constant of transport at temperature 28°C are k1 0.0416 minutes-1, k2 0.0354 minutes-1 and activation energy 32.96 kJ mol-1

AbstractPrevious research has reported that the gambler’s fallacy could be detected in goalkeepers’ behavior during penalty shootouts. Following repeated kicks in the same direction, goalkeepers were more likely to dive in the opposite direction on the next kick. We employ here a unique data collection approach and accurately measure the exact location of each ball when crossing the goal plane. This allows us to analyze how different definitions of the goal center width affect the results, and we show that this width indeed affects whether a gambler’s fallacy in goalkeepers’ diving behavior exists. We further augment the data with additional kicks from top international competitions and analyze the extended dataset. We also question whether previous treatments of kicking sequences adequately represent what goalkeepers consider as a run of consecutive kicks to the same side. A different representation of kicking sequences is provided and applied to the data. Overall, we find some evidence for the gambler’s fallacy after sequences of two or three kicks to the same side.

The aim of the presented study was to establish mid parent heterosis and better parent heterosis of five quantitative traits related to the productivity and quality of durum wheat. A diallel cross was performed for three consecutive years. Thus, F1 generations are provided for three years. The experiments were conducted in randomized block design in three replications for three consecutive years - 2014, 2015 and 2016. The trials were carried out in the breeding field of the Field Crops Institute, Chirpan according to the accepted technology for growing durum wheat. Mid parent and better parent heterosis of ten durum wheat crosses were determined. The better parent heterosis reached up to -7.4 (-7.61%) for plant height, up to 4.66 (56.30%) for number of productive tillers, up to 1.63 (21.01%) for spike length, up to 2.25 (13.84%) for grain protein content and up to 4.66 (13.92%) for grain wet gluten content. Two valuable combinations showed heterosis on several traits. Progres X Predel indicated better parent heterosis for three of the five traits included in the study. Deni X Progres indicated better parent heterosis for three of the five traits studied. The Progres variety is recommended for use as a mother and as a pollinator, and the Deni variety as a mother in winter durum wheat crossing programs. These varieties and their crosses are suitable for improving the productivity and quality of durum wheat. The obtained results may be applied in the hybrid and combining breeding programs to improve durum wheat.

One type of criminal offense that is often committed by Indonesian National Army (TNI) Soldiers is the crime of desertion as regulated in Law Number 39 of 1947 concerning the Military Criminal Code (KUHPM) precisely in Article 87 which is an act committed by a TNI Soldier to leave military service without superior permission, at a specified time and place. The crime of desertion has the main characteristic of unauthorized absence committed by an army person at a place. The absence can be in the form of traveling to a place, hiding oneself, crossing the enemy, entering the military service of another country, or deliberately making oneself left behind. The settlement of cases of desertion crimes often finds several problems, one of which is that the person who committed the crime of desertion cannot be found, which causes the examination process to be carried out in the absence of the defendant (In Absentia). In Absentia, an examination is carried out so that the case is resolved quickly to uphold the discipline of soldiers and maintain the integrity of the troops. Including the case of the case submission that was not examined because from the beginning, the defendant fled and was not found again within 6 (six) consecutive months from the date of submission of the case file and 3 (three) consecutive summons efforts have been made. An examination can be conducted and decided without the defendant's presence in court.

Background Mozec™ CTO is a novel semicompliant rapid-exchange PTCA balloon catheter with specific features dedicated to treat complex coronary lesions like chronic total occlusions (CTOs). However, no data have been reported about the performance of this device in an all-comers population with complex coronary lesions. Methods We evaluated the safety and success rate of Mozec™ CTO balloon in 41 consecutive patients with chronic stable angina and complex coronary lesions (15 severe calcified coronary stenoses, 15 bifurcation lesions with planned two-stent intervention, and 11 CTOs). Safety was assessed reporting the balloon burst rate after inflation exceeding the rated burst pressure (RBP) according to the manufacturer's reference table. Success was defined as the possibility to advance the device further the target lesion. Results The Mozec™ CTO balloon showed an excellent performance with a 93.3% success in crossing tight and severely calcified lesions (14/15 pts), a 93.3% success in engaging jailed side branches after stent deployment across bifurcations (14/15 pts), and a 90.9% success in crossing CTO lesions (10/11 pts). The burst rate at RBP of the Mozec™ CTO balloon was 6.7% (1/15 balloons) in the tight and severely calcified lesions, 6.7% (1/15 balloons) when dilating jailed vessels, and 9.1% (1/11 balloons) in CTOs. Conclusions The novel Mozec™ CTO balloon dilatation catheter showed promising results when employed to treat complex lesions in an all-comers population. Further studies should clarify if this kind of balloon might reduce the need of more costly devices like over-the-wire balloons and microcatheters for complex lesions treatment.

Aims. To determine the efficacy of a new distal protection method in SFA CTO interventions.Methods and Results. From June 2003 to February 2009, ninety-two consecutive, chronic total occlusions of superficial femoral arteries were treated with catheter-based intervention using a bidirectional approach. Nine of these cases were managed with our original, distal protection method, based on symptoms, angiographic images, wire resistance, and intravascular ultrasound images. The average age was 73 years; eight patients were male. The mean occlusion length was 17.1 cm. A distal protection balloon was inserted from the retrograde sheath in the popliteal artery and placed distal to the occluded lesion after successful wire crossing. Lesion dilatation with a balloon was performed antegradely and debris was removed by 6Fr. guiding catheter. Debris was retrieved from all lesions, consisting mainly of thrombus. Where we decided not to use the distal protection method, there was no distal thromboembolism.Conclusion. In SFA-CTO intervention, the risk of distal embolization is 10%, which can be anticipated and eliminated by the distal protection method.

This article investigates the clinical and radiological characteristics of captive bolt gun head injuries, a rare form of low-velocity penetrating brain injury. Eleven consecutive patients were included in the study. Vascular injuries and the rate of infection were systematically analyzed. Radiological findings reveal common bolt trajectories in the anterior cranial fossa, with identified risk factors for a poor outcome including trajectory crossing midline, hematocephalus, and paranasal sinus involvement. Only one patient had a good outcome. Despite meticulous microsurgical techniques, this study highlights often unfavorable clinical outcomes in captive bolt gun injuries, with vascular injury identified as a potential contributing risk factor for a poor outcome. Knowledge of variant vascular tree anatomy and corresponding vascular territory is important. To avoid potential vascular injuries, a complete removal of bone fragments was not always performed and it did not increase the rate of infection, challenging the conventional wisdom advocating for the complete removal of bone fragments. These findings contribute novel insights into captive bolt gun-related injuries, paving the way for further research.

Object In this study, the authors address whether neurofilament protein (NFP) expression can be used as an independent prognostic factor in primary glioblastoma multiformes (GBMs). Methods Three hundred and two consecutive adult patients with newly diagnosed supratentorial primary GBMs were analyzed (January 2000–August 2008). Detailed data regarding clinical, imaging, and pathological findings, oncological treatments, and outcomes were recorded. Neurofilament protein immunoexpression served to identify NFP-positive tumor cells (normal entrapped neurons and mature ganglion-like cells excluded). Results Neurofilament-positive cells were identified in 177 GBMs (58.6%). Patients with NFP-positive GBMs were younger (p &lt; 0.0001), and their GBMs presented with more temporal lobe tumor localization (p = 0.029) and more cortical involvement (p = 0.0003). Neurofilament-negative GBMs presented with more ventricular contact (p &lt; 0.0001) and more tumor midline crossing (p = 0.03). Median overall survival and progression-free survival (PFS) were 13.0 and 7.6 months, respectively, for NFP-positive GBMs, and 7.0 and 5.1 months, respectively, for NFP-negative GBMs. Multivariate analysis revealed NFP immunoexpression, tumor midline crossing, complete resection, and radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy as independent factors associated with overall survival. Neurofilament protein–positive immunoexpression was associated with longer overall survival (hazard ratio [HR] 0.54, 95% CI 0.40–0.74; p &lt; 0.0001) and longer PFS (HR 0.71, 95% CI 0.53–0.96; p = 0.02). Conclusions Neurofilament protein–positive immunoexpression represents a strong, therapeutically independent prognostic factor for primary supratentorial GBM clinical outcome among adult patients. Neurofilament protein–GBM's unique pathological features are not only associated with distinct clinical and anatomical behavior, but are also predictive of overall patient survival and PFS. Abstract:
Tea oil is an important high-quality edible oil derived from woody plants. Camellia oleifera is the largest and most widely planted oil-producing plant in the Camellia genus in China, and its seeds are the most important source for obtaining tea oil. In current research, improving the yield and quality of tea oil is the main goal of oil tea genetic breeding. The aim of this study was to investigate the degree of genetic variation in an early crossing population of C. oleifera and identify single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and genes significantly associated with fruit traits, which can provide a basis for marker-assisted selection and gene editing for achieving trait improvement in the future. In this study, we selected a crossing population of approximately 40-year-old C. oleifera with a total of 330 samples. Then, ddRAD sequencing was used for SNP calling and population genetic analysis, and association analysis was performed on fruit traits measured repeatedly for two consecutive years. The research results indicate that over 8 million high-quality SNPs have been identified, but the vast majority of SNPs occur in intergenic regions. The nucleotide polymorphism of this population is at a low level, and Tajima’s D values are mostly greater than 0, indicating that the change in this population was not suitable for the model of central evolution. The population structure analysis shows that the population has seven theoretical sources of genetic material and can be divided into seven groups, and the clustering analysis results support the population structure analysis results. Association analysis identified significant SNPs associated with genes related to the seed number of a single fruit and seed kernel oil content. Our findings provide a basis for molecular breeding and future genetic improvement of cultivated oil tea.
