A one-dimensional model of phosphorus transport in soils and groundwater applicable for steady state or transient unsaturated waterflow conditions has been developed. Convective transport, hydrodynamic dispersion and time-dependent phosphorus sorption are accounted for in the model formulation. The chemistry is usually performed under mild conditions, with the organopal1adium intermediates being formed in situ from inorganic palladium salts or complexes, and has good tolerance of functionality on the substrates. The palladium mediator may be present in the reaction in amounts ranging from stoichiometric to catalytic. Each AsqJ-mediated oxidation step is accompanied by the breakdown of 2-oxoglutarate (2OG) into succinate and CO2, which results in the formation of a high-valent FeⅣ-oxo species as a key intermediate. Crystal structures of the AsqJ in its NiII-substituted state and in complexes with cyclopeptin and its analogs have already been determined.
